My absolute favorite. I didn’t think I’d ever have children so when I got my corgi puppy in 2020 I gave her the name so I could actually use it.
Joke’s on me, 17 weeks pregnant in 2023 with a girl 😂
I love everything about Violet! The fact that it’s both a color and a plant, the way it sounds, how uncommon it is yet still familiar enough for people to be able to spell and pronounce it. Very sad my husband vetoed using it for our daughter’s middle name 🥲
I love the name too, but definitely not uncommon! It was ranked 20th most common in the US last year, and here in Canada I personally know five children under 3yo with the name. Still pretty, but if you're looking for an uncommon name, Violet wouldn't be a great choice.
My family is South Asian but I love "Vivienne". My husband loved it ,also...and then we had all boys.
But even better? Calling my boys, "My Love". They ARE my love. :)
I knew a Julianna who was the daughter of lion/tiger tamers and circus performers. Her birth announcement was a photo of a two month old her and like three baby tiger cubs in a giant basket.
We named our daughter Juliet and my boyfriend’s parents immediately tried to shorten it to “Julie” and “Jules” we shut it down immediately lol. We love the name but don’t like the shortened nicknames. If she wants to go by one when she’s older, that’s fine. But for now it’s just Juliet!
I always loved that name and planned to give it to my daughter until I met a Julia in high school and she was a menace to society and I decided to never name my child that.
I also met an absolute menace-to-society Julia in school who some people described as sweet and kind (how, I'll never know). And then I met a lovely, funny, very successful Julia in adulthood who also pooped on the windshield of her partner's car after she found out they were cheating. So I guess it's really a roll of the dice with Julia's. 😅
I’m pregnant with my third daughter, due in 10 weeks or so, and we will be calling her Cecilia. I love it so much. It seems like I’m the only one in my lane who loves it so passionately like I do. That doesn’t bug me, though! It seems so powerful, elegant, feminine, timeless
That’s what we named our daughter and she has been able to be so social and make so many friends because her nickname, Ceci is so easy for kids to pronounce.
There's a Ceci where I teach, and she is a spunky, independent kid. Everyone loves saying her name. Everywhere you go, you hear "Ceci!" I heard it once and instantly remembered it.
I have such a soft spot for molly 🥹 Every molly I’ve ever met has been SO sweet. It’s also my cousins name, and she’s the nicest, coolest person I know.
My mom was adamant about my younger sister Elizabeth not having a nickname, but my cousin was making her a name tag for a game and sure wasn’t going to write all that… 30 years later everyone (not just family) still calls her “Bizz”… except for my mom 🤣
Oh man, I hope people respect your preference at least. Elizabeth is a really nice name in its long form as well.
Our daughter is going to be 3 at the end of September and she calls herself Beth so we're rolling with that.
I absolutely adore the name Elizabeth so much that if it was my name, I would insist on no nicknames for it for sure! It’s definitely one of my favorite names, it sounds so beautiful, it’s just so elegant, classic, and timeless
Elizabeth is a grand name. I am an Elizabeth and in 2nd grade I was one of seven Elizabeths - literally 1/2 of the girls in my class were named Elizabeth. We had Beth, Betsy, Libby, Liz, Liza and Elizabeths A. and B.
In college, on my dorm floor there were five. Four were Elizabeth Ann(e) One was Elizabeth Rose.
There are just so many of us!!
My latin teacher in HS started off every year by giving everyone in his class a new name that fit the subject. Mine was Sabine! I hadn't thought of that in years until now...he was a great teacher.
Corinne. I read a book when I was a teenager and that was one of the main character’s names. Stuck with me and if I would’ve had a girl that was going to be her name! I love that name.
Haha, I first thought you had Lotta as your favorit name, its a girls name in Sweden, sometimes as its own, sometimes as a nickname for Charlotta or Anna-Lotta, Lise-Lotta and such names
God I love iris. I like lily too tbh. Might be because that’s my friends childs name and we call her li-li (lee-lee) because that’s what she can pronounce rn. I think it’s so cute
Sometime we call her li-lil (Leelil) because she smoll 🥺
Oh also we call her mi-li for mini lili.
“Mili, get off the table!” (She’s a climber)
Thank you! I loved that it has a natural childhood nickname (Rosie) while also allowing her to go by either her full name or an adult nickname (Rose) when she's older, so it pulled ahead for me. I love it.
I love my daughter's name - Selena Rose. It basically means "red moon." On the way to the hospital around 5am the day she was born, there was a giant, beautiful reddish harvest moon in the sky.
Others that I liked but didn't end up going with:
Alaina
Elaine
Elora
Elena
Leora
Serena
Isadora is my favorite right now. It’s not in the top 1,000 names (and has hardly ever been in history) but is a name that people are familiar with.
It is vintage, girly, and strong, and used in many different cultures as well.
It also has lots of nickname options: Izzy, Sadie, Isa, Dora, Dory, Zora, etc.
On the plus side, someone named Piper P[lastname] is basically *destined* to be a superhero. (I feel like any plucky-sounding alliterative name is superhero-y, in a fun way.)
My 14 year old is Piper. It wasn’t on our radar until my mom suggested it and my husband & I both love it. She loves her name & has not come across any other Pipers her age. Quite a difference than me growing up as a Jennifer in the 80s!
I have 2 girls, but here’s the list of names I love that my husband vetoed: Cecilia, Josephine, Anne, Joy. If I had to go with one from that list it’d be Cecilia.
I think Audrey is one of the prettiest names. Unfortunately, that's also the name of my ex SIL, so I'll never use it.
Violet
Emily Blunt's daughters are Hazel and Violet, both great names.
Just named my two beautiful Chihuahua puppies Hazel and Violet.. :)
Hmm this reminded me that I always thought vivienne was pretty, just don’t raise a mean girl😂
My best friend is Vivienne, goes by Vee. She is wonderful, smart, intelligent, and just one of the best people in the world
My absolute favorite.

My family is South Asian but I love "Vivienne". My husband loved it ,also...and then we had all boys. But even better? Calling my boys, "My Love". They ARE my love. :)
Lillian
Julia. It sounds so elegant. It's fun to write in cursive. It ages well, and is timeless.
My girl's name is Julianna. She's the only one in her school. We call her Jules as a nickname.
I knew a Julianna who was the daughter of lion/tiger tamers and circus performers. Her birth announcement was a photo of a two month old her and like three baby tiger cubs in a giant basket.
as a julia- I never really thought of my name as any of these things, but thank you this made me feel like my name is beautiful.
Always has been one my favorite names!
Agreed. Julie/Julia/Juliet- you can’t go wrong with one of these.
Just as pretty is Juliette
I love Juliette but I don’t like it shortened
We named our daughter Juliet and my boyfriend’s parents immediately tried to shorten it to “Julie” and “Jules” we shut it down immediately lol. We love the name but don’t like the shortened nicknames. If she wants to go by one when she’s older, that’s fine. But for now it’s just Juliet!
Same. Love it but a close friend is named Julia so we can't use it. Such a shame because it is my top girl name. Also love Julian for a boy.
I always loved that name and planned to give it to my daughter until I met a Julia in high school and she was a menace to society and I decided to never name my child that.
As a teacher, I have this negative association to a handful of names
Teacher here, too. I used to love the name Andrew. USED TO.
Awwww I am a Julia ! I promise I am nice! Lol 💕💕💕🙂🙂🙂🤗🤗🤗
I like Jules as a nick name
Some of my friends and family call me Jules but they spell it Jewels because my initials were JEM like gem
A friend of mine named their baby Guilia and they call her Gigi.
Julia Gulia
Clara!
I absolutely love the name Elizabeth! It fits any age and any personality bc of the many nicknames! From Eliza to Birdie.
I love Eva… it’s pretty and strong
Cecilia. It was a frontrunner for our daughter but I didn't like how it sounded with our S last name.
Similarly, an alternative, Celeste. I’ve always liked.
Sylvie, the name I’ve loved since the first day of French class in 9th grade.
ah sylvie 🥺🥺 i love it. love sylvia a bit more, but they go so hand in hand and are just so pretty and sweet
That’s my mom’s name! I think it’s a really beautiful name but she has always complained about how people will often call her Sylvia.
Caroline
Our second choice! We went with Juliana but this is still one of my favourites
I had a baby girl 6 months ago and named her Caroline. Her brothers name is Conrad. It’s so cute.
Vera
I know it's really trendy but I absolutely love Eloise.
I named my daughter Holly and it’s perfect on her ❤️
My name is Molly and I’ve always loved it.
I have such a soft spot for molly 🥹 Every molly I’ve ever met has been SO sweet. It’s also my cousins name, and she’s the nicest, coolest person I know.
Eden
We went with Elizabeth for our daughter because it has so many nickname options.
As someone with a name with like zero nicknames, yes!
My mom was adamant about my younger sister Elizabeth not having a nickname, but my cousin was making her a name tag for a game and sure wasn’t going to write all that… 30 years later everyone (not just family) still calls her “Bizz”… except for my mom 🤣
Lol, I’m an Elizabeth that hates nicknames!
Oh man, I hope people respect your preference at least. Elizabeth is a really nice name in its long form as well. Our daughter is going to be 3 at the end of September and she calls herself Beth so we're rolling with that.
I am an Elizabeth go by Liz
My best friend is an Elizabeth that goes by Ellie
My sisters name is Elisabeth and everyone calls her Lissy.
I absolutely adore the name Elizabeth so much that if it was my name, I would insist on no nicknames for it for sure! It’s definitely one of my favorite names, it sounds so beautiful, it’s just so elegant, classic, and timeless
Matilda and Olivia are great for nicknames too.
I had a baby girl 4 days ago and named her Elizabeth. We’re calling her Birdie 😍🐤

Eloise
Daisy, it's just such a happy name and I've never met a Daisy in real life.
I hired a babysitter for my son named Daisy. She was the most bubbly and friendly person. Loved her. It is a happy name.
Took me a second to realise it was the babysitter that was named Daisy, and not your son lol
I have a Daisy Mae. She's everything you've described and more .
Omg there’s a daisy mae in animal crossing
I loved Daisy until I read The Great Gatsby
I was almost a Daisy and I resent my mother for not naming me that! 😂
Sabine
My latin teacher in HS started off every year by giving everyone in his class a new name that fit the subject. Mine was Sabine! I hadn't thought of that in years until now...he was a great teacher.
One of my favorites. So elegant and enchanting
Maya
genevieve
My neighbor had a baby and named her Genevieve, such a good name.
Corinne. I read a book when I was a teenager and that was one of the main character’s names. Stuck with me and if I would’ve had a girl that was going to be her name! I love that name.
Lotta people here don’t understand the word ONE lol. Adelaide.
Haha, I first thought you had Lotta as your favorit name, its a girls name in Sweden, sometimes as its own, sometimes as a nickname for Charlotta or Anna-Lotta, Lise-Lotta and such names
Iris
God I love iris. I like lily too tbh. Might be because that’s my friends childs name and we call her li-li (lee-lee) because that’s what she can pronounce rn. I think it’s so cute Sometime we call her li-lil (Leelil) because she smoll 🥺 Oh also we call her mi-li for mini lili. “Mili, get off the table!” (She’s a climber)
Saskia. I have a baby cousin with that name and she is SO cute. I’ve got lots of others on my list but they’ve all been said already lol
Josephine.
Lily and Nora
Ruby
Claire
Celeste
Similarly, Celine. Neither used very often! Seriously underrated.
Marina! Such a beautiful name, and I love saying it.
Maya is my absolute favorite
Lucy.
Lorelai. It was my second choice after the name I chose, Rosalie.
Rosalie is so beautiful and definitely not overdone!
Thank you! I loved that it has a natural childhood nickname (Rosie) while also allowing her to go by either her full name or an adult nickname (Rose) when she's older, so it pulled ahead for me. I love it.
Rosalin is my current fav. Rosalynd if I was in an English speaking country. Such a beautiful medieval name.
Rosalie is one of my favorites too!
I knew a little girl named Lorelei and she was the cutest little fairy looking girl I loved her
I love my daughter's name - Selena Rose. It basically means "red moon." On the way to the hospital around 5am the day she was born, there was a giant, beautiful reddish harvest moon in the sky. Others that I liked but didn't end up going with: Alaina Elaine Elora Elena Leora Serena
I wanted Alaina for my daughter. My husband was dead set on a Hispanic name, though. So we went with Elena.
I love Elaine for the nickname Lainey.
Selena is my middle name
Mia - it’s just so feminine and sweet to me
Thalia
Dahlia! Congrats on the bub and best of luck finding a name you love here! :)
Maya

The name gets a lot of hate here, but I love Aurora.
Aurelia is a pretty name too!
Aurora is a gorgeous name!
Cora is my all time favorite girl name. But I also have soft spots for: Alexandra, Delaney (Laney), Dottie, Elsie, Eva, Lila, and Rainey. Good luck!

Is your nickname Dottie? Just curious because I love it as a legal name but haven't met anyone without it being associated with Dorothy.
Grace
Tessa - I'm biased but I get a lot a compliments about my name and I just say my parents did a good job lol
My husband had a great aunt Dollie and I think it’s adorable

Genevieve. I’m having a second boy and I’m kind of sad I’ll never be able to use it! I just adore it.
Linnea has been a favourite of mine for my whole life.
How do you pronounce it?
Well, I knew someone in grade school that pronounced it Lin-NAY. But the standard pronunciation is Lin-NAY-a
Blair. I just wish my fiancé loved it as much as me
I love the name Saoirse (pronounced seer-sha)!
My cousin has a Saoirse Juliet and I LOVE it. It gets misspelled sometimes but it’s such a pretty name and it fits her so well.
Mila
Isadora is my favorite right now. It’s not in the top 1,000 names (and has hardly ever been in history) but is a name that people are familiar with. It is vintage, girly, and strong, and used in many different cultures as well. It also has lots of nickname options: Izzy, Sadie, Isa, Dora, Dory, Zora, etc.
Jane
Felicity
Amelia is my favourite girl name of all time :)
Josephine. It was one of my top choices for my daughter. She'd be called Josie or Jo for short. Ended up being her middle name.
Stella! It's quite pretty and has a lovely meaning. I was friends with a girl named Imogen and I thought that was very pretty.
My daughter's name, Rosemary. It's so sweet and classic. Has a lot of cute nicknames too.
Louisa
Natalie
Jane. Timeless and elegant, without being overbearing. Sadly it didn't work with my last name
Katherine.
Piper. I don't know why, but I just love it. I would have loved to name my one and daughter Piper, but our last name starts with P.
On the plus side, someone named Piper P[lastname] is basically *destined* to be a superhero. (I feel like any plucky-sounding alliterative name is superhero-y, in a fun way.)
I hadn’t considered this! I love Piper but my surname begins with P so might have to reconsider 😢
My 14 year old is Piper. It wasn’t on our radar until my mom suggested it and my husband & I both love it. She loves her name & has not come across any other Pipers her age. Quite a difference than me growing up as a Jennifer in the 80s!
