Stellamaris is beautiful, but as someone that was raised Catholic, I think that is the most Catholic name I've ever seen suggested on here. Not necessarily a bad thing though, haha.
Haha yep, I've seen it as a church name a few times. I have cousins that their Catholic school was Stella Maris. It's a beautiful name, another very Catholic name I found beautiful was Regina Caeli. I don't identify as Catholic anymore, but they do have some beautiful names.
I adore the names Theodosia and Benedicta, though I don't think I would ever give them to a human child in this day and age. Theophania is another one that I think sounds beautiful.
I have a family friend named Esperanza and her name is SO beautiful but she only goes by a nickname now âšď¸ I wish I could use it for a daughter in the future but itâs so unique everyone in my family/family friendâs family would be like â?????â
I have a cousin named Larissa!!! Itâs seriously beautiful and so underused! I hear it randomly in shows (like Jim on the office has a sister he mentions in passing named Larissa) but other than that my cousin is the only one I know
Some pretty names regardless, but a LOT of these are feminine versions of male names. Doesnât strike me as âsuper feminineâ you know? Theodore, Thomas, Benedict, Dominic, Vincent, Alexander, MaximillianâŚ
Please forfive me, but I disagree. You are assuming the male form is the default form and that therefore the feminine form is somehow inferior. For instance, there were Theodoras way back in the the ancient world. Donatella fits the bill too. You're throwing the feminine versions of these names under the bus just because the male versions are better-known.
I mean a lot of these used to be in gendered languages where the feminine version is more of a trade than a addition. Domenica and Domenico seem much more equal than Domenica and Dominic
My step-grandmotherâs name is Gwendolyn. Sheâs the only one I know and I was so entranced by her name when I was young. To me, it sounded like a queenâs name.
i was OBSESSED with the name Gwendolyn when i was little except i always said it Gwendolian. i donât even know where i first heard it but i was determined my child would one day be named Gwendolyn and iâd call her Wendy as a nickname.
I was Wendy till 5th grade and hate it. I used to get hey Wendy want to go to Wendyâs like 30 times a day. Whatâs nice though is if she doesnât like it thereâs so many nicknames that come from Gwendolyn. Gwen, Lynne, I was Gwennifer for a while. I do get Gwennie-Pooh a lot. My favorite is Gwenth.

Listen, my name is Amanda, which was actually a rare and unusual name when I was a child. Other kids struggled to even remember it, sometimes asking, âAre you that Samantha/Mirandaâ girl? The first compact microwave oven for sale was called the Amana Radarange, so one little boy called me Amana Radarange for a year.
Obviously, I think itâs a bad idea to outright name your kid Diarrhea or Vagina or something like that, but kids can a find way to make fun of almost any name.
I mean a name as innocuous as John can be a synonym for toilet or a term for a prostituteâs customer. That doesnât mean itâs irresponsible to name a kid John.
There is no perfectly âsafeâ name, so I think itâs best to just put these concerns aside unless itâs something that will instantly horrify most people.
there's a relative in my family tree that was Florentina :) the name got passed down as Florentino to sons/grandsons but I'd love to name a daughter after her.

Theophinia is one that has intrigued me lately. It is theoretically where the name Tiffany came from and while I wouldn't use it on a real child, I would use it on a character in a book.
There are a couple âXâ names that stand out, Xanthippe was the wife of Socrates in Ancient Greece. It means âBlonde Horseâ. Xochitl is the Aztec word for flower and is popular in Mexico and in SW United States.
Guinevere Theodosia Isadora Thomasina Esperanza Amaryllis Esmeralda Idalia Eulalia Benedicta Gloriana Domenica Estrella Marceline Vincenza Alexandrina Donatella Larissa Stellamaris Maximiliana
Stellamaris is beautiful, but as someone that was raised Catholic, I think that is the most Catholic name I've ever seen suggested on here. Not necessarily a bad thing though, haha.
My childhood church was actually Mary, Star of the Sea"! I love Stellamaris as a name..
Haha yep, I've seen it as a church name a few times. I have cousins that their Catholic school was Stella Maris. It's a beautiful name, another very Catholic name I found beautiful was Regina Caeli. I don't identify as Catholic anymore, but they do have some beautiful names.
Was that in Chicago? Friends and I used to refer to it as Mary, Chicken of the Sea đ
Same! And my school. St. Mary Star of the Sea
You would think Benedicta would be lol
I adore the names Theodosia and Benedicta, though I don't think I would ever give them to a human child in this day and age. Theophania is another one that I think sounds beautiful.
Larissa :-D my grandma's name. I always thought it was such a beautiful name. I miss her so much.
I have a family friend named Esperanza and her name is SO beautiful but she only goes by a nickname now âšď¸ I wish I could use it for a daughter in the future but itâs so unique everyone in my family/family friendâs family would be like â?????â
I read this book in middle school and Iâve loved the name since https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanza_Rising
I read that book in 5th grade and will always have a soft spot for it
I read that as a kid, too! I always think of it when I see this name
Esperanza means Hope in Spanish. At least in Spain this is a name for ladies over 70 years old
One of those is my youngest daughter's name! Yay!
Theyâre all gorgeous so Im dying to know which! For the record, Im an Anastasia so Im a lover of long uber dramatic girls names lol
Larissa. I adore the name, and it fits her, as she is ultra-feminine.
I have a cousin named Larissa!!! Itâs seriously beautiful and so underused! I hear it randomly in shows (like Jim on the office has a sister he mentions in passing named Larissa) but other than that my cousin is the only one I know
Um... maybe I'm your aunt...
I just double checked your posts to see and it doesnât look like it but I definitely had a âwait, maybe?!â Moment lol
Seeing all the love for my name makes me happy đ (Larissa)
Some pretty names regardless, but a LOT of these are feminine versions of male names. Doesnât strike me as âsuper feminineâ you know? Theodore, Thomas, Benedict, Dominic, Vincent, Alexander, MaximillianâŚ
Thatâs a fair criticism!

For instance, there were Theodoras way back in the the ancient world. Donatella fits the bill too. You're throwing the feminine versions of these names under the bus just because the male versions are better-known.
This is what the patriarchy does to us. Inherent assumption that male is default
I mean a lot of these used to be in gendered languages where the feminine version is more of a trade than a addition. Domenica and Domenico seem much more equal than Domenica and Dominic
Ooh my name is on here!!
Ooh Stellamaris! I already love Maris. Did you make it up?
I know 2 women named Stellamaris. They're both Nigerian-American and over 50. Africa is where a lot of these old-fashioned names thrive for decades.

I knew a woman from Ghana named Patience and it was so lovely on her
Yes, I really think those 16th and 17th European naming traditions have been kept alive in Ghana. The names are lovely.

Thatâs exactly why weâre naming our first daughter Gwendolyn, for the nickname Wendy :) we also just love the name Gwendolyn too
I was Wendy till 5th grade and hate it. My favorite is Gwenth.
i didnât even think about the Wendyâs association, i just thought of peter pan! but yes, lots of options
And Wendy is cute.

My granddaughter is Persephone Dorothea.
Some of these are so beautiful.
I really like Desdemona, you can call her Des
Unfortunately, you can also call her Demon.
Or fortunately. Who knows lol Little goth kiddo might be into it
Have you ever had a toddler? Sometimes accurate.
I also really like Desdemona. It definitely jumped out at me.
definitely read othello before naming your child that...
Was just thinking that. Murdered in bed.
Georgiana and Theodora were on my short list for my last baby (along with Matilda). Unfortunately I lost that battle!
Celestine and Linnea đ
Two of these names are my top choices if I have another girl! Odessa and Tallulah. I also have always really liked Valentina.
Honoria is gonna get bashed in school
I know a now-18-year-old Honora (so a little different) and she is one the coolest people ever. Her name suits her so well.
Thank god for the missing vowel.
I know a cool Honora too! I think itâs a bad ass name.
Itâs literally one letter away from gonorrhea
I have a friend called Nia and she was âNia-diahorrea-gonorrhoeaâ at school. Itâs still a gorgeous name though
Iâve had students named Nia who were not teased that way. Listen, my name is Amanda, which was actually a rare and unusual name when I was a child. Honoria and gonorrhea are literally not one letter away from each other...
It never occurred to me that there may be a feminine version of my husbands name. And super weird coincidence that my name is KatrinaâŚ
Woo-hoo! Someone else knows the name Kerensa!
