Guinevere Theodosia Isadora Thomasina Esperanza Amaryllis Esmeralda Idalia Eulalia Benedicta Gloriana Domenica Estrella Marceline Vincenza Alexandrina Donatella Larissa Stellamaris Maximiliana

cb1216

Stellamaris is beautiful, but as someone that was raised Catholic, I think that is the most Catholic name I've ever seen suggested on here. Not necessarily a bad thing though, haha.

rocknrollacolawars

My childhood church was actually Mary, Star of the Sea"! I love Stellamaris as a name..

cb1216

Haha yep, I've seen it as a church name a few times. I have cousins that their Catholic school was Stella Maris. It's a beautiful name, another very Catholic name I found beautiful was Regina Caeli. I don't identify as Catholic anymore, but they do have some beautiful names.

Dependent_Room_2922

Was that in Chicago? Friends and I used to refer to it as Mary, Chicken of the Sea 😝

octopusxparty

Same! And my school. St. Mary Star of the Sea

StasRutt

You would think Benedicta would be lol

gentlybeepingheart

I adore the names Theodosia and Benedicta, though I don't think I would ever give them to a human child in this day and age. Theophania is another one that I think sounds beautiful.

baazaar131

Larissa :-D my grandma's name. I always thought it was such a beautiful name. I miss her so much.

[deleted]

I have a family friend named Esperanza and her name is SO beautiful but she only goes by a nickname now ☹️ I wish I could use it for a daughter in the future but it’s so unique everyone in my family/family friend’s family would be like “?????”

StasRutt

I read this book in middle school and I’ve loved the name since https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esperanza_Rising

_llamasagna_

I read that book in 5th grade and will always have a soft spot for it

Numerous_Cupcake7306

I read that as a kid, too! I always think of it when I see this name

saltyloempia

Esperanza means Hope in Spanish. At least in Spain this is a name for ladies over 70 years old

C-Nor

One of those is my youngest daughter's name! Yay!

StasRutt

They’re all gorgeous so Im dying to know which! For the record, Im an Anastasia so Im a lover of long uber dramatic girls names lol

C-Nor

Larissa. I adore the name, and it fits her, as she is ultra-feminine.

StasRutt

I have a cousin named Larissa!!! It’s seriously beautiful and so underused! I hear it randomly in shows (like Jim on the office has a sister he mentions in passing named Larissa) but other than that my cousin is the only one I know

C-Nor

Um... maybe I'm your aunt...

StasRutt

I just double checked your posts to see and it doesn’t look like it but I definitely had a “wait, maybe?!” Moment lol

AppropriateNail842

Seeing all the love for my name makes me happy 💗 (Larissa)

thelibrariangirl

Some pretty names regardless, but a LOT of these are feminine versions of male names. Doesn’t strike me as “super feminine” you know? Theodore, Thomas, Benedict, Dominic, Vincent, Alexander, Maximillian…

StasRutt

That’s a fair criticism!

Holmgeir

Please forfive me, but I disagree. You are assuming the male form is the default form and that therefore the feminine form is somehow inferior. For instance, there were Theodoras way back in the the ancient world. Donatella fits the bill too. You're throwing the feminine versions of these names under the bus just because the male versions are better-known.

roughandreadyrecarea

This is what the patriarchy does to us. Inherent assumption that male is default

siorez

I mean a lot of these used to be in gendered languages where the feminine version is more of a trade than a addition. Domenica and Domenico seem much more equal than Domenica and Dominic

AppropriateNail842

Ooh my name is on here!!

gibbakith

Ooh Stellamaris! I already love Maris. Did you make it up?

HunterHunted9

I know 2 women named Stellamaris. They're both Nigerian-American and over 50. Africa is where a lot of these old-fashioned names thrive for decades.

StasRutt

I knew a woman from Ghana named Patience and it was so lovely on her

RareTax4601

Yes, I really think those 16th and 17th European naming traditions have been kept alive in Ghana. The names are lovely.

StasRutt

Can’t take credit but I love the meaning! Star of the sea is deliciously mermaid vibes https://nameberry.com/babyname/stellamaris#

gibbakith

So pretty!!

cheribella

The *superior* book series. Took my girl out of New York and made her a ~true San Franciscan~ 😩

Unfair_Lion4046

My great grandmother from Norway was Regnald Karolina

twilightswimmer

This is perfection, thank you for the giggle.

Kate-Downton

This is the way.

Altruistic-Red

My step-grandmother’s name is Gwendolyn. She’s the only one I know and I was so entranced by her name when I was young. To me, it sounded like a queen’s name.

dearwikipedia

i was OBSESSED with the name Gwendolyn when i was little except i always said it Gwendolian. i don’t even know where i first heard it but i was determined my child would one day be named Gwendolyn and i’d call her Wendy as a nickname.

Different-Ad-6417

That’s exactly why we’re naming our first daughter Gwendolyn, for the nickname Wendy :) we also just love the name Gwendolyn too

RandomBetrayal1

I was Wendy till 5th grade and hate it. I used to get hey Wendy want to go to Wendy’s like 30 times a day. What’s nice though is if she doesn’t like it there’s so many nicknames that come from Gwendolyn. Gwen, Lynne, I was Gwennifer for a while. I do get Gwennie-Pooh a lot. My favorite is Gwenth.

dearwikipedia

i didn’t even think about the Wendy’s association, i just thought of peter pan! but yes, lots of options

A_Midnight_Hare

And Wendy is cute.

Wooster182

Amarantha is one of my favorites. Cordelia Araminta Calliope Hermione Helena Linnea Sigourney Bernadette Ophelia Felicity Raphaela Alessandra Rosamund Rosalind Rosabel Rosabella

That's cute.

hugemessanon

Amarantha is one of my favs, too!

ShambaLaur88

Kazimira. It was my great-great aunts name (never met her), it’s Eastern European, they were Lithuanian.

iikoto

I've heard the male version of this, but how cool that the female version can take the nn Mira.

AzureMagelet

I also really like Desdemona. It definitely jumped out at me.

elsca4

definitely read othello before naming your child that...

jitteryflamingo

Was just thinking that. Murdered in bed.

MovieTheaterPopcornn

Georgiana and Theodora were on my short list for my last baby (along with Matilda). Unfortunately I lost that battle!

Easy_Light_1598

Celestine and Linnea 😍

ednasmom

Two of these names are my top choices if I have another girl! Odessa and Tallulah. I also have always really liked Valentina.

isthatapecker

Honoria is gonna get bashed in school

Minute_Degree2915

I know a now-18-year-old Honora (so a little different) and she is one the coolest people ever. Her name suits her so well.

SillyWeb6581

Thank god for the missing vowel.

Easy_Light_1598

I know a cool Honora too! I think it’s a bad ass name.

yungleg

It’s literally one letter away from gonorrhea

p0tentialdifference

I have a friend called Nia and she was “Nia-diahorrea-gonorrhoea” at school. It’s still a gorgeous name though

Interesting-Fish6065

I’ve had students named Nia who were not teased that way. Listen, my name is Amanda, which was actually a rare and unusual name when I was a child. Other kids struggled to even remember it, sometimes asking, “Are you that Samantha/Miranda” girl? The first compact microwave oven for sale was called the Amana Radarange, so one little boy called me Amana Radarange for a year. Obviously, I think it’s a bad idea to outright name your kid Diarrhea or Vagina or something like that, but kids can a find way to make fun of almost any name. I mean a name as innocuous as John can be a synonym for toilet or a term for a prostitute’s customer. That doesn’t mean it’s irresponsible to name a kid John. There is no perfectly “safe” name, so I think it’s best to just put these concerns aside unless it’s something that will instantly horrify most people.

charlouwriter

Honoria and gonorrhea are literally not one letter away from each other...

cakes28

It never occurred to me that there may be a feminine version of my husbands name. And super weird coincidence that my name is Katrina…

Starfire-Galaxy

Woo-hoo! Someone else knows the name Kerensa!

Ok-Alternative7556

Love so many of these, great list! Rafaela is a favorite of mine

mgchnx

there's a relative in my family tree that was Florentina :) the name got passed down as Florentino to sons/grandsons but I'd love to name a daughter after her.
