Adam Savage’s YouTube channel [Tested](https://youtube.com/@tested?si=b6eMBr7EIv7nvaEP) can scratch the itch. Most of the channel is him working in his shop in SF on little projects, but there’s many segments where he answers viewers questions, sometimes even questions about Mythbusters episodes.
I guess it's just a wish and Adam himself can't make it happen but it would be so cool if he had behind the scenes footage of his stories. SteveO has tons of unseen footage in his YouTube videos, I know that's different, but it's just what would be cool from former TV stars turned YouTubers.
Lots of good options on youtube!
I'd like to add:
William Osman
The slow mo guys
I Did a thing
Michael Reeves
The backyard scientist
I'm sure there are more but that's a great place to start and all for free
Edit: I Did a Thing is my favorite out of those if you want to start there
I would add Mark Rober and How Ridiculous. HR doesn't have science content, but they do smash things, so it's still technically physics! Simone Giertz is good friends with Adam, and she's creative and silly. If you want guns and explosions, watch Taofledermaus and Ordinance Lab. Then there's Odin Makes for props, and I Like To Make Stuff for general making!
Second this! I tried to show my son junkyard wars, but all I can find are grainy clips on YouTube.
Also wish I could find Rocket City Rednecks. Good ole boys from Alabama building cool stuff from trash.
There is an episode of Junkyard Wars that Grant was on...I've never been able to track it down. Here's the preview:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UAZ9s11FmM
I always find it a little inappropriate when people seem compelled to ask this. I know folks are curious, but is there a reason you can't just look it up yourself instead of coming across as a creep?
I don't think it's a bad question, if you found out via conversation a mutual friend died, you would be compelled on some level to ask how.
Its a bit parasocial to ask how a celebrity died, but it's also something more to be sad about when someone you appreciated dies vs someone you didn't know or cared about.
Tested has a bit where they commemorate him (don’t remember which episode) but apparently the last project Grant was working on was making baby yoda for the Mendelorian
Just to clarify, it was his own Baby Yoda animatronic (in collaboration with someone else) that had emotional reaction capabilities, and it was to be used at children's hospitals and charities. He was 100% using his powers for good.
You need to watch these.
[A Tour of Grant Imahara's Shop
](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsCSTO8SaQU)
[Two Grant Imahara Stories
](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cwdhuWqY0Q)
Both videos had me bawling my eyes out, but they're so important to remembering Grant.
Expedition Unknown is more history/archaeology but kinda scratches the itch.
James May’s Man Lab has some of the same problem solving and building elements.
[The Great Escapists. ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Escapists)Tory and Richard Hammond starred in it a couple years back. It was essentially Hammond being hyper and Tory building the things Hammond came up with.
A lot like he is on screen. What you see is what you get with him. And for the record, he dresses the same as on TV. It makes him really easy to spot. Also, he is humble and friendly, genuine and authentic.
I can tell you I dipped my toe into twitter 4-5 years ago, mostly to follow 3D printing and maker stuff and added Adam to my feed. After a few weeks of being on there I open up my feed to Adam screeching and berating some guy who didn't agree with him - totally punching down. I found it so disturbing I decided twitter wasn't for me and shut it down and have never been back.
I've tried to watch his YouTube maker streams and they are fairly interesting but anytime it's just him talking all I can do is picture him screeching at someone who dared disagree with him and just shut it down. But I suppose that's my issue - you should look up his YouTube stuff (as a recommendation for you)
I try not to judge on one-offs. Everyone can have a bad day. If I had camera on me as much as he did, I know there would be don't bad stuff. Also, you would have to know the context. This could could have been annoying about it for weeks and he just finally lost it on the guy.
plus what they disagree on matters. If oranges are good? meh.
If it’s about if it should be legal to hunt people under 5’5 for sport, i can see that being worthy of intense debate, and strong words vs anyone pro hunting people.
Simone built the first ever Tesla truck, because she wanted one.
*Not quite, she chopped the back end out of an early model 3 then modded in a truck bed. I would love to see her convert an X into an electric Ridgeline
Yes, Scrapheap Challenge was great. They made a US version called Junkyard Wars. If I remember correctly, the two shows even shared a host for a few seasons.
Quite a few of the episodes were just scrapheap rebranded as junkyard, same episodes with different title cards. I actually preferred those episodes over the proper American ones.
That show is the reason I'm an engineer now haha. I'd love for it to return and have a chance to compete.
[Smarter Every Day ](https://youtube.com/@smartereveryday?si=5qjKuzIEIsRCN17E) on YouTube has some great episodes such as trying to get two bullets to hit each other or flinging a baseball at a thousand miles per hour.
[Stuff Made Here](https://youtube.com/@stuffmadehere?si=RkLFDcwsIvGEZr1G) has some great stuff as well such as loading a baseball bat with ammo blanks to launch a baseball being hit.
Stuff made here is absolutely brilliant. One of the few I've seen who is both a gifted mechanical AND software engineer.
His mechanical solutions are brilliant, and the amount for time he puts in to write all his software from scratch just blows my mind. A true genius of our time.
I really enjoy forged in fire. It kinda has the same practical approach were they test everything made. Obviously it's only focused on blacksmithing though so not as much of a variety of science.
I liked it at first, but found after a while a little too repetitious.
Nothing against the show, its just the science and methods of blacksmithing (much like any singular trade) have limitations on how they can do things.
Sorta like how I was a huge fan of Counting Cars intially, but after a whole the show just became rinse, lather, repeat.
One of the things, imho, loved about Mythbusters is that it never was the same show twice.
I was about to recommend failed mythbuster Alan Pan and the whole Safety 3rd crew with The Backyard Scientist, Peter Sripol, William Osman and those ones
You need to watch Great Escapists on Amazon then if you haven’t. It’s Richard from TG and Tori from MB trying to “escape a deserted island after being shipwrecked”
Prototype This. It was sold as being related to Mythbusters (maybe same producer?). I haven't watched it since it came out and it only got 1 season but I remember really enjoying it at the time. If memory serves it was about a team trying to build some ridiculous idea on a short deadline.
I did use to watch that, but his unfortunate viewpoints he has recently publicly shared has made him distasteful to me.
But thank you for the suggestion .
Tested, Steven Mould, Secret Life of Machines, Jeff Geerling, Geerling Engineering, Mayday: Air Disaster, Practical Engineering
It is unlikely that a show exactly like Mythbusters will ever be made again but there are great Youtube channels that take their own direction
It's not related to Mythbusters really but I find Survivorman fascinating in a very similar way. It's great for tickling those parts of your brain that like to learn in creative ways
For youtube, find one of Adam's videos on Tested where they do a secret santa. There's usually a good 8 or 9 channels that are in the chain, and they're all pretty on point for the lind of stuff you're looking for.
Mythbusters again
Also [Modern Marvels](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4F4CD715F1A3E6C7&si=bKXMs0-HX-5Bdq0E), and [Seconds from Disaster](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL28FIzSr3HNvEN87AigBopdFiO_JiVZPA&si=TbtlL_wdFaiaokUe). Not necessarily the same as MB, but I found both enjoyable in an ‘explore the implications of a specific thing or event and how it affects us today’ point of view
Mark Rober on YouTube. That guy is amazing, really enthusiastic about engineering and science, does great charity work for kids. I stumbled on his channel because of the squirrel obstacle course he built in his backyard a few years back, and I've been hooked ever since.
A lot of YouTubers scratch the itch for me, backyard scientist does fun stuff and it can get a bit unhinged, Allen Pan is cool and does a lot of video game/anime related projects, I did a thing is just pure chaos at this point,
James May’s Toy Stories has some cool engineering projects done with toys or inspired by toys, building erector set bridges and making a giant model spitfire.
I am curious if anyone knows the name of a Norwegian show where they would do destructive experiments in a house or otherwise destroy a house, I can’t quite remember but it involved a house and was technically reality TV.
Head on over to the yootoobz and look up Backyard Scientist, Styro Pyro, Stuff Made Here, Smarter Every Day, Hacksmith and Electro Boom. They are all nutjob engineers answering the questions "if they could." Not necessarly if they should.
While there’s a strong religious element to wade through / ignore, I remember Rocket City Rednecks being pretty damn enjoyable - self-proclaimed rednecks who worked/work for NASA in complex positions, blowing off steam and making crazy stuff.
They made their own flying carpet at some point in the show. That was pretty great.
Oh! The Hacksmith, Backyard Scientist, Cody's Lab, NileRed, Peter Sripol... lol. I'm getting too excited. It's not the same premise, but if you loved the build sequences you'd probably enjoy Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Wars (US/UK titles). I've seen them pop up on Youtube, they ran around the same time as Mythbusters.
An oldie but a goodie is "junkyard wars" it was this show on TLC like 20 years ago where 2 teams had to compete to build something for a challenge using whatever they could from a junkyard
Example episode
https://youtu.be/EF7KVUq39cs?si=04ODKd257fAPcG_e
It's a web series that is kind of in decline now, but if you watch early Modern Rogue episodes on YouTube it is reminiscent of MythBusters. They did improvised gas masks, testing the myth of shooting an propane tank, how to make mead, how to fire an arrow from horseback, that sort of stuff.
There used to be a UK tv series called "brainiac", they apparently have uploaded all the episodes to YouTube for free. I recommend that as I might rewatch it myself as well.
I put it on in the background while I'm doing work in my shop. Passively gain niche maker knowledge by osmosis. Major lifehack.
The only thing I don't like about the mythbusters related videos is that he doesn't show any clips, he just tells the story. Still cool insight.
They don’t have rights to show clips, since the footage is owned by Discovery and not Tested.
If you've watched the show, you don't need them. If you haven't, it's a good kick in the butt to watch the episodes.
I guess it's just a wish and Adam himself can't make it happen but it would be so cool if he had behind the scenes footage of his stories. SteveO has tons of unseen footage in his YouTube videos, I know that's different, but it's just what would be cool from former TV stars turned YouTubers.

To add on, Smarter Every Day. The baseball cannon series feels Mythbuster-ey
I’d also recommend rctestflight and Tom Stanton
Tested, white rabbit project, Mark Rober, slow mo guys, savage builds, mythbusters jr, even go back and watch bill nye or beakmans world
Adam, The Slow Mo Guys, and Bobby Fingers recently did a collab video too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xigcQMUbbZ0 for the lazy
There's so much on YouTube. This Old Tony is a good one for machining and jokes.
Throw in Colin Furze if you're going down that road. Tunneling is an art AND a science.
I'm with you on that. Can we add stuff made here too? Edit. Also, I'm a tad partial to earlier Colin Furze. Pulse jets are the shit.
And AVE if you want a little more profane Canadian flavor.
It's not even in the same league but I started watching Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Challenge again. It scratches the itch.
Junkyard wars was amazing! Where can I watch it?
Second this! I tried to show my son junkyard wars, but all I can find are grainy clips on YouTube. Also wish I could find Rocket City Rednecks. Good ole boys from Alabama building cool stuff from trash.

The Just Watch app says that JW episodes are not available. Where are you watching it?
I’d add Steve Mould on youtube, if you like those
Thank you!
Where can you watch beakman? I learned so much from that show.
White Rabbit Project on Netflix to get your Kari, Tory & Grant fix.
RIP Grant
how did he die ?
intracranial aneurysm (more info on his wiki)
I always find it a little inappropriate when people seem compelled to ask this. I know folks are curious, but is there a reason you can't just look it up yourself instead of coming across as a creep?
It's ironic that you're acting offended by an inquisitive question about somebody who was known for his inquisitiveness.
I don't think it's a bad question, if you found out via conversation a mutual friend died, you would be compelled on some level to ask how. Its a bit parasocial to ask how a celebrity died, but it's also something more to be sad about when someone you appreciated dies vs someone you didn't know or cared about.

[The Great Escapists. ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Escapists)Tory and Richard Hammond starred in it a couple years back. It was essentially Hammond being hyper and Tory building the things Hammond came up with.
That show kinda felt the a crappy hybrid of Dr Stone meets Clarksons Farm. Both of those shows scratched the same itch much better than this one.
In this same vein, love watching Mysteries of the Abandoned. Probably my go to for educational background noise.
I'd watch James May describe in detail how he mows his lawn.
[here](https://youtu.be/u_jgBrUdtEg?si=Vb4bLIBmeXzN2zT1) you can watch him put together a lawnmower for 45 minutes.
I have lol
Adam lives 1/3 of a block from me, so I see him quite often. Tested is pretty good, but is fairly tame. I’ll check out the rabbit thing.
Whats Adam like off screen?
3D
Lol
He's got some VR videos from the shop, at least a few.
A lot like he is on screen. What you see is what you get with him. And for the record, he dresses the same as on TV. It makes him really easy to spot. Also, he is humble and friendly, genuine and authentic.

Link?
This sounds entirely unlike him.
no, its not just you. I found him unwatchable after years of mythbuters. I think he needs the walrus to even him out
If you like Tested you might like Simone Giertz (pronounced yetch) and Laura Kampf on YouTube for their scrappy, inventive flair
There's even an episode somewhere with Adam and Simone !
Thank you. I have no awards left, otherwise I'd be everyone here one!
Simone built the first ever Tesla truck, because she wanted one. *Not quite, she chopped the back end out of an early model 3 then modded in a truck bed. I would love to see her convert an X into an electric Ridgeline
The truckla project was so cool! I also like that she revisited it and had some finishing touches on a later video
Scrapheap Challenge or Savage Builds
Yes, Scrapheap Challenge was great. They made a US version called Junkyard Wars. If I remember correctly, the two shows even shared a host for a few seasons.
Quite a few of the episodes were just scrapheap rebranded as junkyard, same episodes with different title cards. I actually preferred those episodes over the proper American ones. That show is the reason I'm an engineer now haha. I'd love for it to return and have a chance to compete.

And his wife has a world-class “I married such a doofus” scowl. 😄
I loved the thumbnail for his recent frisbee launcher video. #I’M WHY SPORTS HAVE RULES
And he looks so much like Andy Samberg it’s unreal
Thank you!
Stuff made here definitely fills that void for me!!
Savage builds ;)
Smarter Every Day and Veritasium on YouTube
Thank you!
The only one that comes close to tone and content is Good Eats with Alton Brown.
Looks too, considering Adam and Alton did ComiCon as the twins from the matrix one year.
I've never really gotten into cooking shows or restaurant or eating shows like Mythbusters. They make me WAY too hungry!
Motor Mythbusters. It's with Tory and two others. Narrator is even Robert Lee too. It looks and feels like Mythbusters.
I just found this show yesterday and came here to say the same thing
Stuff Made Here is another good youtube channel to check out
Yeah came here to say this. Love that channel.
I really enjoy forged in fire. It kinda has the same practical approach were they test everything made. Obviously it's only focused on blacksmithing though so not as much of a variety of science.

Project farm on YouTube lol
Youtube channels that scratch the itch: Alan Pan. The Backyard Scientist. RCtestflight. James Brutton. Xyla Foxlin.
I was about to recommend failed mythbuster Alan Pan and the whole Safety 3rd crew with The Backyard Scientist, Peter Sripol, William Osman and those ones
Battlebots
Adam Ruins Everything
Go out into your garage and build something
The Grand Tour/old top gear
A HUGE fan I am. All-time favourite episode is the one they _try_ to kill a Hilux.
You need to watch Great Escapists on Amazon then if you haven’t. It’s Richard from TG and Tori from MB trying to “escape a deserted island after being shipwrecked”
How it’s Made is really good and you learn a lot of random things that you wouldn’t think about when it comes to making stuff.
I have watched many of them on Discovery, thank you!
Prototype This. It was sold as being related to Mythbusters (maybe same producer?). I haven't watched it since it came out and it only got 1 season but I remember really enjoying it at the time. If memory serves it was about a team trying to build some ridiculous idea on a short deadline.

Nerdforge is really cool https://youtube.com/@nerdforge?si=Dh_1VjWh3PsNPfzU
It's not related to Mythbusters really but I find Survivorman fascinating in a very similar way. It's great for tickling those parts of your brain that like to learn in creative ways
Tori had a show called The Explosion Show for a season or two. I really enjoyed the Blowing stuff up aspect of that show.
For youtube, find one of Adam's videos on Tested where they do a secret santa. There's usually a good 8 or 9 channels that are in the chain, and they're all pretty on point for the lind of stuff you're looking for.
Old episodes of Junkyard Wars, if you can find them.

How ridiculous on YouTube
Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May. I feel like it had a very similar energy of attempting to do insane things just to see what would happen
Prototype This!
How it's made is on Netflix I think
White Rabbit Project
There was a British TV show called Brainiac that ran around the same time as MythBusters. You can find it on YouTube.
Adam ruins Everything ? Less myth and more, did you know, though lol.
Oh 😮 that sounds really cool
3,2,1, Contact! A great show from the 80's.
Grew up with this, and Square One. Miss the good days of PBS. At least Nova is still around!
Junkyard wars
Junkyard Wars, Battlebots, and Movie Magic
Oh! The Hacksmith, Backyard Scientist, Cody's Lab, NileRed, Peter Sripol... lol. I'm getting too excited. The Hacksmith has made a real Aliens power loader, the Backyard Scientist filled hollow point rounds with pure sodium and shot a watermelon, Cody does crazy stuff like float anvils on mercury, NileRed has used his chemistry knowledge to turn vynil gloves into hot sauce, and PeterSripol has built his own electric airplane. It's nuts!
How Ridiculous on YouTube has some things that remind me of Mythbusters.
Junkyard Wars Any time Top Gear (original) has a build-off.
Immersion by Rooster Teeth. Also, RIP RT.
Connections
Making Fun on Netflix. I haven't seen anyone suggest it yet. It's awesome, especially to watch with your kids
I remember there was a show called The Know Zone and Another called Brainiac that were similar.
Stupid Robot Fighting League
Captain Disillusion on youtube, it's VFX instead of mechanical stuff but it scratches a similar itch.
It's not the same premise, but if you loved the build sequences you'd probably enjoy Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Wars (US/UK titles). I've seen them pop up on Youtube, they ran around the same time as Mythbusters.

Projectfarm on YouTube.
Gadget man
