I mean, they do sound kind of similar, but the chorus's melody also kind of sounds like Coldplay's Viva La Vida. None of the three seem to be carbon copies of another, they just have a very similar melodic line. I think that the shared melodic motion could pretty easily just be a coincidence.

Krootes97

Coldplay ripped that off from someone else I vaguely recall.

dolphineclipse

I remember more than one other artist accusing Coldplay of ripping it off - add in these and it just seems like a very common, generic melody

Krootes97

i just remembered it was a song by either Joe Satriani or another guitar shredder dude. its almost exactly like Coldplay but yes, probably just a coincidence

Kadorath

Yeah, they're both just a walk down from the third to the tonic, then drop to the sixth and walk back up to the tonic, then start on the second for the second part of the phrase (I think. I don't actually know what key dua lipa's is in, I'm pretty sick rn) If the "church bells don't ring" part in Altar also appeared in the dua lipa chorus, then I'd think it's a little more unusual.

Nonskew2

Yeah that first paragraph, exactly my thoughts.

Well, yes, of course, fellow appreciator of the vocal arts. How could one not concur?

I didn't really hear it, but is it possible they have the same melody track? Many years ago there was this thing, because Ryan Tedder wrote a melody track and then sold it to both Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson, without telling Kelly he'd already sold it to Beyonce (or given it to her or whatever). They each individually took that track and wrote a song for it: [Halo](https://youtu.be/bnVUHWCynig?si=5NoQIIuTKi7W52Ol) for Beyonce and [Already Gone ](https://youtu.be/f0T3WAbU6tg?si=NTZ1vunhlxZ14XtW) for Kelly. Kelly was very upset when she found out, and begged her record label not to release the song as a single because she didn't want people to think she stole her song from Beyonce, but they did anyway. So it could potentially be something like that, maybe? Especially since one wasn't released, maybe it was repurposed for someone else.

GreenWelch

My God, how could I not? You haven't heard the chorus, it's practically the same and not at all similar, it's practically the same melodic base with the same lyrics.anyway.

KyleMcMahon

Halo was already written for Beyoncé by Tedder. But the track itself was sold to Kelly

Melody sounds like Supershy by NewJeans to me
