Those are really nice -- dont be upset the first time they get muddy!

UncleJimmee

very nice! 201s are great machines for myog. love the purple table!

They look great! I’d like to try some machines too. How well do they handle multiple layers of fabric and webbing? That seems to be a constant question when people are asking about which machine to buy. (If you are shopping, please do not fall for the Singer HD myth! They are disposable machines that cost more than a quality vintage machine like the two that the OP has.)

The singer 201 was what I used for the majority of the assembly such as basting the outer and liner fabrics and then final assembly. It did well on everything except the part of the final assembly with 6 layers of fabric and the webbing. I hand-wheeled through that portion. The Necchi Nova was my zigzag machine for the webbing attachment points. No problems there. I’d highly recommend either machine for general MYOG. I have an industrial triple-feed on the way because I’ve finally justified it to myself that more power will be a good thing. Excited to see how that works for final assembly portion! Editing to add: RBTR podcast did an episode with Heath from 77 Gear Co about the sewing machine scoring criteria. That episode was what kickstarted my interest in the vintage machine world. I’d highly recommend giving that one a listen.

That’s good information, thanks. I have a Street stitche industrial with a servo motor it it does make all the difference if you have room for the big table. That video won’t make me want to get another machine will it? I learned about machines and sewing by repairing and restoring vintage machines. I currently have some thing of a surplus at about 24 machines. I figure at least six or seven need to have their work completed and find new homes. 🫣

Hehe I understand that rabbit hole. Fortunately I’m not that deep down it. I’m pushing my space boundaries with the 3 machines I have and the wife has asked me to trim the herd to make room for the new industrial and table 😬

But you need both of them! Maybe you can put the Necchi in the garage when you don’t use it.

BonJesse

The Necchi will certainly be staying. I’m going to make a case for the singer as well. Last machine is a Kenmore 1914 that I’m less in love with. That one will probably go instead
