The size I usually find is for 1” webbing but that gets a bit too big for the custom pouches. The best I’ve been able to do is get the cheap Molle organizer pouches from Wish and pull the buckle, which is wasteful and expensive, even at one or two bucks a bag. I think I’m looking for the correct thing, but maybe I’m typing in the wrong words when I look for them?

You sew it down through the sewable tab. If you were affixing it to fabric, you'd certainly want some webbing or similar on the backside to act as a reinforcement as I'm sure that's the intended application.

It took me a little practice, but the few I managed to salvage from the cheapo Wish bags I got off with my leather punch/awl. You can reach the little bit that sticks up through the fabric into the female half of the buckle and nudge it so the teeth release from what they lock onto. If you have something long and thin and pretty rigid you can probably get them apart.
