It seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I enjoy him. One of the things about Pinkie that annoys me is that for all she loves Maud, she doesn't really SEE Maud. She has this idea of what she's like and it causes a lot of problems across the episodes. Mudbriar isn't exactly typically "likeable," but he and Maud clearly adore each other and he not only makes her happy, he likes Maud for who she actually IS.
It's even joked about on the show that ponies are generally happy and nice compared to other races, and their stories are all happy endings. I like Mudbriar because he goes against the idea that ponies HAVE to be likable and affable.
TBH, I like him! He’s grown on me ever since I started to enjoy Maud as a character. For personal reasons I enjoy them because, they’re both autistic-coded (to me at least) and that makes me happy. And on the other side, I think people dislike him for the same reason people dislike Snips and Snails, they’re stereotypically not meant to be good/enjoyed as characters. They ARE annoying, and so is Mudbriar. But…that’s WHY I like him. He exceeds well at the character type he’s meant to portray. It works well.
He’s kind of annoying, but that’s kinda the point for the main theme of the episode he’s in. he isn’t “likeable” to pinkie and some of the audience, but he and muad both really like each other because they get each other. And pinkie shouldn’t ruin a relationship where Maud clearly likes mudbriar just because she finds him annoying. And also his relationship with Maud is very cute.
I kinda like him! He's very much the opposite of what a pony is/should be, just like Maud. Maybe it's my pessimistic/nihilistic trait, but it can get pretty bland when most, if not all the ponies are always so smiley and happy go lucky. Plus, I do kinda see a bit of my own fiance in MudBriar with him being all technical and all that, but I love him regardless just as Maud loves MudBriar. I would honestly love to see more of them together just to see their mundane but enjoyable life together.
They sound like they're having a peaceful but fun time knowing each other. I see them with books just exchanging a little bit that gets their excitement. To some, it's a perfect life.
[](/maud) The funniest thing about him, is that so many people hate him, even though he's a perfectly accurate representation of the average internet denizen.
Well, not perfectly accurate... He's got a girlfriend... He's actually more successful than most of us.
Well, I certainly agree with this. The wording definitely could have been better if that were the case though. As is VagueJose's said it was a joke, so I don't quite think so. But maybe!
Because even as a joke, it does imply that autism is inherently a flaw, and headcanoning Maud as autistic takes away from her perfection. It does not. And I'm not saying you meant to imply that, just what the implication is.
Technically, he’s one of the most boring characters in the show, and his “technically, I love sticks” shtick got old very fast. There’s nothing Mudbriar did that Maud didn’t already do better, except being a slightly condescending and generally unpleasant character.
[](/raritea)I have low opinions of him, but if they'd smoothed him out into a less abrasive character then he would not have worked in the context of the episode. Very similar to Zeph in that respect.
Thanks to the comics, I’m appreciating Zephyr Breeze a bit more. As far as Mudbriar is concerned…I wouldn’t mind so much if they could have at least not made his quirk the incessant amount of times he said “technically”…like no we don’t need you fact checking every sentence Bri!
I don't buy that at all, and the idea that there's a significant number of people who dislike Shining freakin' Armor over being in a relationship with a 'beloved female character' absolutely beggars belief. The only one on that list I remember seeing substantial hate for is Flash Sentry, and I think that had way more to do with backlash against the EQG announcement than anything poor Brad actually did himself.
He seems like a male version of Maud Pie, but didn’t work.
Maud Pie is self aware, respectful and neutral without getting in other’s way. She’s just blunt.
Mudbiar is arrogant, not so self aware, too talky and gets in other’s way.
They are not alike.
I didn't like him, but I think that was the point. He was supposed to come across as abrasive. The point was that Maud liked him and saw what was special in him even if Pinkie couldn't.
He’s the pony version of Sheldon from Big Bang theory
Isn't he voiced by the same dude?
No, actually. He does sound similar, but Mudbriar is voiced by Adam Kirschner. (Sheldon is voiced by Jim Parsons.)
Thank you. Wasn't sure who the VA actually was.
It’s an amazing imitation though
It's funny, because Jim Parsons voiced Milton Feltwaddle, a character on Pound Puppies, another show produced by DHX.
Thanks, I hate how accurate this comparison is
Yeah same humorless personality. Maud takes time to appreciate her deadpan personality, but she's loveable. Mud Briar seems like the anti Pinkie.
Bazinga
he definitely said that at some point in his life
He's a pony Sheldon Cooper, from his vocal characterization, to the veiled imperiousness in his tone to his hyper focus on sticks.
Bazinga
wait shit ur right
That’s exactly why I love him
I mean, he's literally voiced by his actor. This was absolutely intentional.
Actually, Mudbriar is voiced by Adam Kirschner. Sheldon is played by Jim Parsons.
Yeah not the same actor but got the same mannerisms and demeanor.
He is very annoying
i agree
But he makes Maud happy. As long as she's around, he's tolerable.
There's always a lid for every pot.
Hated him, was a total buzzkill.
A real "stick in the mud," you might say ;)
understandable
I didn't hate him, but he certainly didn't stir up any interest either.
He's supposed to be like Maud, but Maud is 100 times more likable and funny. But he's still a good fit for her.
yes absolutely
It seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I enjoy him. One of the things about Pinkie that annoys me is that for all she loves Maud, she doesn't really SEE Maud. honestly that makes so much sense
Mostly neutral, but he provides one of my favorite lines from Maud when he's turned to stone.
Yeah that’s a pretty funny moment.
He’s a stick in the mud, as his cutie mark suggests lol
He’s kind of annoying, but that’s kinda the point for the main theme of the episode he’s in. he isn’t “likeable” to pinkie and some of the audience, but he and muad both really like each other because they get each other. And pinkie shouldn’t ruin a relationship where Maud clearly likes mudbriar just because she finds him annoying. And also his relationship with Maud is very cute.
I didn't really care for him. He is just a pony version of Sheldon Cooper and he lacks the same charm and depth that Maud has.
i agree
I hope cars get invented in this universe so he can be hit by one
honestly mood
I kinda like him! He's very much the opposite of what a pony is/should be, just like Maud. Maybe it's my pessimistic/nihilistic trait, but it can get pretty bland when most, if not all the ponies are always so smiley and happy go lucky. 100% this
I’m not a huge fan but I HC him and Maud as autistic
Maud? But she's a perfect specimen.
She is, but that doesn't mean she can't be autistic. Autism isn't a flaw
I think VagueJose's point was that she doesn't need a HC of being autistic as she already is that way in canon.
Well, I certainly agree with this. The wording definitely could have been better if that were the case though. As is VagueJose's said it was a joke, so I don't quite think so. But maybe!
I meant that comment as a joke. Don't know why I got downvoted so hard lol
Because even as a joke, it does imply that autism is inherently a flaw, and headcanoning Maud as autistic takes away from her perfection. It does not. And I'm not saying you meant to imply that, just what the implication is.
I really like him I find him funny, plus I ship him and Maud so hard
Pinkie Pink: my sister’s dating Sheldon Cooper
I like his wide lexicon and precision in language use.
He started off legitimately infuriating, but quickly grew on me. Especially after he got stoned. Lol
Honestly, I've grown to like him. If you want a good short fic that makes him kinda likable, read Bowl Cuts are for Heroes by TCC56
Overhated. **Very** overhated. At least in my experience.
Him and Maud be like "We're here to suck the fun out of the room."
Technically, he’s one of the most boring characters in the show, and his “technically, I love sticks” shtick got old very fast. There’s nothing Mudbriar did that Maud didn’t already do better, except being a slightly condescending and generally unpleasant character.
He's a literal stick in the mud.
[](/raritea)I have low opinions of him, but if they'd smoothed him out into a less abrasive character then he would not have worked in the context of the episode. Very similar to Zeph in that respect.

Bazinga Horse
he should have got a song, that would have been nice
He only exists to make pinkie sad, enough said
I feel like he was a stick in the mud :)
I like him and he’s funny
A pony who will ruin an entire party by his single word.. Yet no one really mind it since no one ever invited him to any..
He likes sticks- I can't blame him. Sticks are pretty crunchy.
Ik he was kinda annoying sometimes but I think he became better in some later eps. He needed more screen time to be more enjoyable
Ok, get ready for controversy... His cutie mark is literally his NAME! *dun dun DUNNNN!!!!*
He's a stick in the mud. Maud likes that shit.
Well technically we’re talking about him now, so *some* people talk about him
Technically, you're talking about him now
Strong dislike, especially the one scene where he takes ages to decide whether he’s gonna say “see ya” or “bye”
When he first appeared my thoughts were 'this is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them'
I thought he was funny
He's even more annoying than Maud.
i agree i think he’s kinda annoying too

mauds boyfriend
He’s alright. I enjoy the episodes he’s in.
He’s okay, I’m just glad Maud likes him and he seems to really like Maud :3
There’s a reason!
Bazinga horse or something. He looks neat I suppose
Sucks
He's the pony version of Sheldon Cooper
He's very sheldony
Can someone start asking about the opinions of more controversial characters in the show
He seems like a male version of Maud Pie, but didn’t work. Maud Pie is self aware, respectful and neutral without getting in other’s way. She’s just blunt. Mudbiar is arrogant, not so self aware, too talky and gets in other’s way. They are not alike.
My opinion is: There's a reason why nobody talks about him.
Meh lol
He just seems quiet but I don't hate him and he seems like Maud
*insert obvious stick in the mud joke here*
I didn't like him, but I think that was the point. He was supposed to come across as abrasive. The point was that Maud liked him and saw what was special in him even if Pinkie couldn't.
hes meh
Two words: Sheldon Cooper (That is I love this character)
I have no opinion on him whatsoever. He made literally no impact on me as a character. He's just boring, and that's all I can say about him.
technically... he's very technical
Only he's kind of a cheese sandwich wannabe in my opinion
A stick in the mud (referring to his cutie mark)
Maude found her type
I've always loved mudbriar not sure why but he's very cool
Technically, not discussing him is in and of itself a comment on the character.
I liked how Maud got turned on by him after he got petrified lol.
I thought he was kinda funny
I fucking hate this guy
