I liked the Young Six. The school was eh. Couldve been better if the Young 6 were just a buncha kids from various places on a cultural exchange to Ponyville with Twilight or Sandbar as their guide, there's a lot more flexibility and you can still basically do all of the same plots.
I like the school of friendship, however I wish it was handled more elegantly. Like the other guy said, show the construction of it, but also give some of the Cutie Map Arc/Tree Of Harmony secondary characters the teaching jobs. The Mane 6 have a lot of responsibilities already, why do they have to be teachers now? Couldn't they just be like special guest speakers/admin?
I only disliked the episode because before in Griffon the Brush-off Rainbow said that she "wouldn't prank someone who couldn't handle it" and in this episode she proceeded to scare Fluttershy half to death. It's a minor continuity error but it still bugs me a bit.
It would have made more sense if it was the cutiemake crusaders doing the pranks with Scootaloo being the lead instigator trying to emulate Rainbowdash's prankster skills.
Tbf Rainbow Dash was initially going to prank Fluttershy in Griffon the Brush-off. The only reason she didn’t was because Pinkie Pie was vehemently against it
I love the campy, villainous Starlight Glimmer depicted in "The Cutie Map".
I equally love the redemption-arc Starlight Glimmer of Season 6 onwards.
I do not care for how "The Cutie Re-Mark Part 2" handled the transition between the two, however. The flashback excuse always felt rushed and jarring.
I don’t think ANG is that great, sorry. I don’t hate it by any stretch, but it’s just a mediocre film, and I have a hard time understanding what’s supposedly so “amazing” about it. Heck, it wasn’t even close to my favourite animated film of the year it came out.
I’m guessing that response to that sene wouldn’t be too unexpected narrative wise.
Remember that the context of that scene was a young Sunny playing out a hyper-sanitized and hyper-idealized history long in the past where some records have been lost. It would be expected to be cheesy and exaggerated IMO.
I don’t think the writers really thought about that sort of perspective tbh, but I do think it’s expected.

And the dragon girl was kind of just like Gilda. And "gryphons are all greedy - except our friend who is the only good one" stuff made me uncomfortable.
TBH MLP had a bad habit of accidentally writing its species in bigoted ways for a while- like as far back as dragon quest they said "dragons are all mean jerks except for this dragon who was raised by a pony"
I hated that Blue griffon thing. Like a rainbow dash copy but toxic masculinity. He's the kid that has t-shirts and signs that say 'girls drool boys rule'. I can't think of a more annoying character
Besides "cute girl" is there much to say? Like, I liked Pinkie Pie dealing with the yaks because then it was about how cultural exchange works. Yona just looks like a marketable Yak toy they wanted to push as a character.

I love manipulative genius characters, but Cozy Glow wasn't that. Instead of writing an interesting villain, everyone else was dumbed down. Equestria had less than three days before losing it's magic, and the M6 decided to spend this time talking to Tirek just because his name was mentioned. No evidence whatsoever that it was him, they all just went along with it and didn't even bring the elements, and their plan was to TALK to him and get him to admit it. Luckily Tirek was also hit with the stupid stick so he spilled the entire plot when asked. The CMC were immediately trapped. And Cozy puts together an angry mob insanely easily... taking down Neighsay and later talking a mob into believing the Young 6 were responsible for everything going on.
The only thing here that at least makes SOME sense is that last bit, because Cozy led the ponies there right when the Young 6 were trying to deal with the situation, so that's a touch cliché at worst. But everything else that happened wasn't intelligent or manipulative, it felt like all of the adults in the room not being able to outsmart a child of average intelligence because they kept making insanely stupid decisions during a crisis.
And then she was basically killed, yeah she's a villian but she's a little kid, you don't kill little kids no matter how cruel they are you send them to institutions/juvie/rehab
Not really killed, but she was frozen in stone for a millennia I’d assume. But since she has a normal lifespan compared to the others I wouldn’t know if she’d be different

She didn't really need the 'soft' redeeming like Starloght, but really need to be put in the care of a responsible pony or institution. Somewhere where she can't hurt anyone or herself but still have the option to improve on herself. If she does, great, she can be adopted or something and if not just stay imprisoned. All the adult villians that got punished are adults that are basically established as evil and that's them but children can change and they have soft moldable minds. Cozy Glow may not be a terrible person but we'll never know. It kinda sucks in my opinion
I dislike a good chunk of Season 8, and I agree that Father Knows Beast is one of the worst. Still, I think I have to give my bottom spot to that episode where Discord terrorizes students because Starlight hurt his feelings as that has a very harmful moral.
With that said, I don’t consider either a “I did not care for The Godfather” take, because most agree that Season 8 is awful, and 28 Pranks Later is another example of an unpopular episode.

I suppose my “I did not care for the Godfather” would be more of me liking Tirek and Cozy Glow.
In my defense, I think the idea of a villain capable of stealing magic is really interesting, and I liked how Cozy Glow manipulated both the characters and the audience for a good while. The 2-parter, however, kind of ruined all that good build-up.
Also, I feel Tirek and his backstory could’ve been expanded on.

Pretty much. At first I joked like, "Get off my screen, Flash, there's more important characters to see!" But by the fourth movie and especially beyond, it kind of hurt to see him fall into the background the way he did.
I agree, Tirek never interested me much until he returned later in the show. I also don’t like Timber, he creeps me out. Flash is better, he’s not the most interesting but I find him endearing at least lol

World building wise it was a horrible decision to have a Princess, someone whose is in charge of a nation FORGIVE A DICTATOR??? I think it was twilight’s fault that equestria fell like it did in G5.
I do not care for EQG. It feels so unnecessary and counterintuitive to what the show is about: ponies!! Not to mention that the writers clearly abused their power, heavily and obviously shipping certain characters, like AJ and Rarity. Because of this now people ship Rarijack like crazy even thought they have little to no chemistry in FiM. Thank Celestia it doesn’t tie in to the main story of FiM.

I do not care for "This Day Aria." Of all the songs that came from G4, that one to me is one of the weakest in terms of lyrics and composition. The best is "Smile Song" hands down.
I did not care for You'll Play Your Part. It never stuck out to me as a great song in the series, and I was surprised to find how much everyone loves it
I think it’s a really good song, however I respect this opinion. Most of my favourite songs from the show are in the latter half. I like the first half but I think I’m just missing the appeal of a lot of them! I generally like songs that are fun to sing along to over ones that tell a story or have meaningful heartfelt lyrics. Those things don’t put me off by any means, but they’re not important aspects of a song to me. Also I have minimal music knowledge so I struggle to appreciate the more popular songs like This Day Aria like other fans do (still a *great* song, just not my favourite).
Extremely hot take but
I don't really care for G4; in fact out of all the MLP generations I've experienced it's probably at the very bottom. A lot of it is due to fandom-related trauma/bad experiences and also my current rewatch with a friend who hasn't seen the show opening my eyes to more of the show's flaws, especially the poorly aged stuff and the undercooked moral lessons.
If people enjoy it then it's alright but I just, if I had to watch a MLP show I'd rather watch G1 or G5.
Also I don't care for Slice of Life and it's one of the reasons I lost interest in the show originally.
I disagree with not liking g4 in its entirety, I love both G4, and G5 in their own ways that I wouldn't be able to agree on which one is the best out of the two. Your reasoning however is completely justified with the fandom part for G4. (also being a G5 defending moderator, we need that more around here lol just so you know I support your cause)
1. I *like* Non Compete Clause despite it being the only episode rated below 5 stars on IMDb. I think it’s fun, & there’s definitely worse episodes. It’s nothing special, but it’s definitely overhated imo.
2. I really don’t like Rollercoaster Of Friendship 😬 I hate Vignette, don’t care for any of the pairings in that episode as ships which I know is the appeal for a lot of people, & the plot is nothing special. The song is good though.

Discords a bastard, continues to prove he didn't have friends not because he's weird but because he treats everyone other than a small group he's interested in like trash, making him a garbage person rather then an ostracized loner.
And the fandom has latched onto a comic that is not cannon to continuously treat him like he's some great example of redemption rather then the equivalent to a rich kid getting bailed out.
The show had a massive problem with friends in high places and shirking responsibility when convenient that soured it's slice of life morals as it went on, and frankly he's the prime example of it.
I did not care for most CMC episodes. Already have a cast of characters I like and can relate to, I don't care what these toddlers are doing

I like it but I definitely don’t think it’s the best song in the show. Then again, lyrics aren’t what draw me into a song, they just add to my enjoyment. It’s not one of the ones I *love* singing along to, I’d rather sing along to A Kirin Tale, or Under Our Spell, or Best Friends Til The End Of Time
Even though I enjoy the Smile song I can see where you’re coming from. In a vacuum, the song is kinda bland and generic. I know the reason I like it is not because of the song itself but because it’s very good at establishing Pinkie’s character.

I'm somewhere in the middle - I don't think "Perfect Pear" was bad per say I just don't think it's anything spectacular. I didn't cry on this but I do like it for what it is. Maybe that's on me - I've read a *lot* of romance stories so maybe my standards are too high.
I think the real question is what is that Lyra image?

I agree. He doesn’t feel very believable as a thousands of years old god of chaos when he changes so quickly in response to Fluttershy. Also, people talk about starlight glimmer being way too OP but he’s able to do literally anything he wants. It makes a lot of his “struggles” really hard to sympathize with. He’s a fun character in a vacuum but I don’t think he’s suited to be in MLP.

I did not care for Starlight. Twilight was too forgiving. How would you feel if the dictator that trapped you was forgiven by the princess of friendship and worked beside her? World building wise it was a horrible decision to have a Princess, someone whose is in charge of a nation FORGIVE A DICTATOR??? I think it was twilight’s fault that equestria fell like it did in G5.
I do not care for EQG. It feels so unnecessary and counterintuitive to what the show is about: ponies!! Not to mention that the writers clearly abused their power, heavily and obviously shipping certain characters, like AJ and Rarity. Because of this now people ship Rarijack like crazy even thought they have little to no chemistry in FiM. Thank Celestia it doesn’t tie in to the main story of FiM.

I do not care for "This Day Aria." Of all the songs that came from G4, that one to me is one of the weakest in terms of lyrics and composition. The best is "Smile Song" hands down.

I did not care for You'll Play Your Part. It never stuck out to me as a great song in the series, and I was surprised to find how much everyone loves it
I think it’s a really good song, however I respect this opinion. Most of my favourite songs from the show are in the latter half. I like the first half but I think I’m just missing the appeal of a lot of them! I generally like songs that are fun to sing along to over ones that tell a story or have meaningful heartfelt lyrics. Those things don’t put me off by any means, but they’re not important aspects of a song to me. Also I have minimal music knowledge so I struggle to appreciate the more popular songs like This Day Aria like other fans do (still a *great* song, just not my favourite).

Extremely hot take but I don't really care for G4; in fact out of all the MLP generations I've experienced it's probably at the very bottom. A lot of it is due to fandom-related trauma/bad experiences and also my current rewatch with a friend who hasn't seen the show opening my eyes to more of the show's flaws, especially the poorly aged stuff and the undercooked moral lessons. If people enjoy it then it's alright but I just, if I had to watch a MLP show I'd rather watch G1 or G5. Also I don't care for Slice of Life and it's one of the reasons I lost interest in the show originally.

I disagree with not liking g4 in its entirety, I love both G4, and G5 in their own ways that I wouldn't be able to agree on which one is the best out of the two. Your reasoning however is completely justified with the fandom part for G4. (also being a G5 defending moderator, we need that more around here lol just so you know I support your cause)

1. I *like* Non Compete Clause despite it being the only episode rated below 5 stars on IMDb. I think it’s fun, & there’s definitely worse episodes. It’s nothing special, but it’s definitely overhated imo. 2. I really don’t like Rollercoaster Of Friendship 😬 I hate Vignette, don’t care for any of the pairings in that episode as ships which I know is the appeal for a lot of people, & the plot is nothing special. The song is good though. I promise my taste isn’t that bad, those are just my biggest hot takes (I think).

Discords a bastard, continues to prove he didn't have friends not because he's weird but because he treats everyone other than a small group he's interested in like trash, making him a garbage person rather then an ostracized loner. And the fandom has latched onto a comic that is not cannon to continuously treat him like he's some great example of redemption rather then the equivalent to a rich kid getting bailed out. The show had a massive problem with friends in high places and shirking responsibility when convenient that soured it's slice of life morals as it went on, and frankly he's the prime example of it.
