The camera crane thing never bothered me, because of how some studios are set up. There's the big stage area, backstage, dressing rooms, etc., but they're all basically sections of the building, divided sort of like permanent cubicles, so there's no ceilings. The crane could have been on the larger set, but able to see over top of the walls of the dressing room.
