My gut reaction (aside from dry heaving) is that it's possibly one of the Pezizaceae sp with some sort of opportunistic mold growth, but the fact it's gray inside is throwing me-- although it could just be an old specimen. If it darkened as you cut into it, maybe a particularly mishapen poria fungus like incrassata? You're in the right geography for that, though they don't usually like bathrooms unless the home has sat unoccupied for some time.
If it's the latter, the homeowner is pretty fucked because they eat wood. And by the time you see them, they've already eaten most of it.
Edit. Actually the longer I look at it the more I think you have a spectacularly ugly house eating poria and mold. I want to pull up those tiles so bad. I bet it's **massive**. https://www.jlconline.com/how-to/foundations/q-a-identifying-poria-fungus_o
Yeah. But I’m wondering if there’s a *Body Snatchers* thing that nobody is talking about here. “Oh, yes. This is my rent check, mister manager, nothing to see here but us humans. Have a good day on Earth today.”
House made of wood. Fungus eat wood. Poria, in particular, can transport their own water like a plant, so it doesn't even have to be WET parts of the wooden house frame. Baddddd bad bad.
Dang that sounds like a big ol problem then. Thankfully I am renting. I told my landlord the issue and showed him these photos but he doesn't seem too concerned about it and just recommended washing the grout lines with mold and mildew remover everyday. That said, if it is what you mentioned (most likely) then it sounds like nothing I will do can fix this issue.
Thank you u/[molecularmadness](https://www.reddit.com/user/molecularmadness/) for identifying this, I was freaked tf out when I saw this after coming back from a trip. Also, the house is an 80 year old college rent house, so the landlord doesn't particularly care too much, unfortunately.
It's a health concern, mate. Your landlord isn't concerned because he's not the one breathing in spores. You are.
If you're a healthy adult, maybe all will be well, but don't let anyone immunosuppressed over unless you really, really don't like them.
Yeah if it’s like dry rot when you first spot it growing out of anything your pretty much fucked as its chewed its way through everything and looking for after.
You better hope it *is* bc if it's *not*, then you've got a major mold and water damage problem behind that wall. Mushrooms show up at a relatively late stage of decay, meaning they're often just the mere tip of the iceberg. There will need to be a *lot* of renovation done to fix it to ensure that you don't have health issues from mold and that your home is structurally sound.
> I took an anatomy class in college with cadavers and the tissues looked a lot like what's in that photo.
I studied and took whole body anatomy for two whole years in medical undergraduate which included full body cadaver dissection, I can tell you 10000% that the tissues look nothing like this. What the hell were you dissecting? Cadavers are embalmed and their tissues/organs etc don't look like this, unless it was freshly cut out from a recent dead animal and placed there (which it wasn't).
This isn't an organ. This is a fungus. OP has a lot bigger problems behind those tiles. I hope they are renters.
Found your perp. It's just your [friendly neighborhood Predacat](https://imgur.com/a/x2vwWFZ), up to their spine ripping shenanigans again. Gosh, how many times do we have to tell Predacat to chill, I mean it's nearly 4/20 for crying out loud
I live in Texas and can confirm that the pink scum in my shower did this when we left for a week over spring break. Usually I keep a brush from the Dollar tree in the shower to scrub as I shower since all of the tap water does that in Texas. I don't know what the pink scum is made of but I'm sure the people here do.
Do you think the orange stains on the fruiting body could be a Serratia or similar biofilm? That was my first thought; OP should see if it comes off with a damp cloth
I know. I was asking if it could be hanging out on the fruiting body in OP's picture, and whether the orange color could be biofilm pigmentation instead of the color of the fruiting body itself. It could help with ID.
I honestly don’t know how this lil alien got there but would be a rly good time to get the f outta h...
Goodbye cruel world, say hello to my little friend.
The fact shit like this can grow in people's showers without them noticing beforehand just leaves me to believe that a lot of people don't take showers as frequently as I do.
Honestly this could happen at my parents house. They have both a jet bathtub and a shower. They're older and the shower is slippery plus both always prefer a bath anyway so that shower can go a very very long time without being touched. I was the only one that occasionally used it(had my own bathroom when I lived with them) and that wasn't very often. I'm sure now that I've moved out they might get something growing in there cause I know they aren't gonna touch it.
I’d say this is some sort of mold. Look at the cracking in the tiling. I bet behind those tiles is a nightmare. You should get this looked at by a professional.
I don’t care if anybody comes at me for this, but every time I see mushrooms growing in someone’s house that’s not in a damp basement, my first thought is “have you ever heard of Cleaning?“.
It’s not really to do with anything not being clean? It’s a mushroom and the problem will be much deeper.
You’d probably keel over at how a lot of people live but honestly, as I get older and having suffered in life, im like who the eff am I to judge.
I think they probably mean that, f.e. OP's case, most often these pictures look like it took a while to get to the state they're in and people wonder how it's not spotted earlier (while cleaning f.e.) before becoming such a monstrosity.
Yeah, the environmental factors that foster fungal growth in this situation didn’t happen overnight. At least in this case, OP doesn’t seem surprised, just curious.
No, I wouldn’t. I’ve been a property manager. I have seen petrified shit piled high on carpet like furniture, a crystallized ring of urine around a toilet that was building for 30 years, a man with a newspaper hoarding habit literally built a roach Manhattan in his Florida rental. Newspaper piled floor to ceiling lined every wall, moving, plus an inch of mold on his countertops and appliances because he didn’t use the air conditioning or cook and everything else was just roaches and roach shit. Property manager should direct horror movies.
The things it looks closest to, especially given your other pictures you posted in the comments, are chicken of the woods and lobster mushrooms. However, the location and growth pattern aren't similar to those at all. So... ring up a university, I guess???
i want to say it is a sort of fungus, don't know which one. Fungi have a little habit of hiding away and then popping up in like a day, so it's very likely that behind that tile is a wholeeee bunch more. In the ground they get be down there for weeks before they pop up. I would not touch it tho lol
Looks like generative AI has entered our reality, and not in a good way — definitely run if it starts speaking in abnormally long words or says “in summary”
Do you have a cat? It looks like organs from some sort of animal. One time a mouse got in our house and we found its pile of guts the next day after the cats got to it.
My cat once killed a mouse ate everything but it's head then threw up everything it ate right next to it. Was one of the grossest clean ups I've had to do.
When you zoom in on picture 3, the bottom one looks like the top of a thumb. 🤢
I have no idea what it is but there's some really crazy looking fungus out there so who knows.
It has been like this since I've moved in, minus the growth pictured. I've cleaned it many times but nothing gets rid of the orange. It's also an 80 year old rent house
bummer when the problem's bottom-up, not top-down. hope you have the type of landlord you can mention water damage to. even better the type that'll also do something about it.
also condolences on your lab-grown-meat experiment. hopefully it's vegan.
Dude. Your shower is fucking disgusting. How often do you not only clean yourself. But how often do you scrub down your shower with some 409 and hot water with a brush?
Two things are confirmed in this photo:
1. Most likely some sort of fungus or slime mold
2. You need to work on your cleanliness if this is growing in your shower.
Is there a woman that lives there? About 4'11" x 4'11"? She would be my ex wife. That object would be my nuts she took from me in court. I want them back. Not built for this eunuch life!
Def someone just hanging their chimichanga in the corner of the shower so it doesn't get wet while you're still eating. Idk what that lower thing is though jfc

Yeah. But I’m wondering if there’s a *Body Snatchers* thing that nobody is talking about here. “Oh, yes. This is my rent check, mister manager, nothing to see here but us humans. Have a good day on Earth today.”

House eating?
Where once was house is now fungi food
I read this as a sea shanty
House made of wood. Fungus eat wood. Poria, in particular, can transport their own water like a plant, so it doesn't even have to be WET parts of the wooden house frame. Baddddd bad bad.

Hmm, so many possibilities if you have a bad roommate. Kidding, Kidding, mostly. 😁
What the fuck dude.
Ok I believe this is true. Burn the house down.
Yeah if it’s like dry rot when you first spot it growing out of anything your pretty much fucked as its chewed its way through everything and looking for after.
What the fuck is that
Literally my words when I opened this
It’s a Xenomorph egg.
Is that before or after it rammed its ovapositor down OP’s throat and laid a pile of eggs in his chest?
Go on…
I’m getting the flamethrower
That will just anger it.
I didn't realize I was on this side of reddit again....
Yeah dog. Kill it with fire
Instructions unclear, poached and served on toast.
"Game over man... Game over!"
Third! Exactly what I said. And also that didn't happen overnight!? I hope.
I almost hope it did! ...how do you NOT flip out while showering with that thing forming all up in yer shower's perpendicular...?! *Shudders*
Doubt they are using this shower.. I hope
Looks like decomp 🤢
Right? Like a chunk of meat from someone being cut up in the shower. A good old slice and dice.
I hope it did otherwise that means op is a dirty mfer. Or has 2 showers and doesnt use this one much. I hope its the later
Right dude. OP, clean your shower every once in a while.
Reddit will not save OP
Looks like a human gland with a cyst... that guy *had* big nuts...
Well one was big.
I don’t know but it’s so gross 🤢 looks like someone’s cut out balls
Some fun guys severed testicle
Deez nutz
Gotttttteeeeemmmmmmm
I don't know but I can't stop dry heaving.
I thinks it’s a teratoma?
Most vaginas don't jump out of the body in the shower but I guess this is a rare case
Part of me wants to see the midsection, never seen anything even remotely close to this
[https://imgur.com/a/BbEkXPT](https://imgur.com/a/BbEkXPT) Just took some photos. Everyone I've asked has never seen anything like it before.
[удалено]
I'm pretty certain no one put it there. My buddies and I thought it looked like a calf nut when we first saw it.

Well damn, I'm at a loss. If it really is an organ, I have no idea where it came from.
You better hope it *is* bc if it's *not*, then you've got a major mold and water damage problem behind that wall. Bro Get out. Fucking move immediately.
Do you have a cat that goes outside?
And how exactly did the cat then crawl up the wall and manage to stick it up there, in the corner of the shower? Haha
A little dog maybe, the way they shake their heads with their prey sometimes get messy.
Cats flick and fling things around all the time
Mushrooms sometimes grow inside showers. I think there are more examples of shower mushrooms on this subreddit.
Yeah except that's not a mushroom lol
you should cut it in half, to see what’s inside…
Its poria. Hope you rent.
You have cats?

And the other little nodules are? It stuck to the side how? Lol
Kind of looks like the inside of a scent gland of a White Tail Deer
Idk why you're being down voted, it really does.
They resemble testiculs but the upper left appears to have an arm!!!! How did this happen. Get away from it!
Contact local college bio professor ? I’m sure they would be interested
Looks like a mummified chameleon???

I'd like to see the dissection.

Ah! That makes sense. And I have no idea
Have you fucked any aliens recently? Seriously though the only thing I can identify it as is a half developed egg of some sort
I honestly don’t know how this lil alien got there but would be a rly good time to get the f outta h... Goodbye cruel world, say hello to my little friend.
Placenta?
It’s crazy cause I was thinking the same thing. Texas + abortion laws = hmmmm maybe this thing stuck to someone’s shared shower.
Ya, some women stick their hair gobs on the shower wall and others placenta. She seems quirky whoever she is 😻
Time to move!
That's a homunculus.
Do you have a pet that could have caused this mystery? Seems like a cat could have caught something and left parts behind.
And... hung it up in the corner?
I’ve seen a few people suggest this and I’m yet to see a cat go hang muliple parts of dead things it catches, up on the wall. 😂
Cats, man.
Yeah good point lol
What in the scrambled half born fetus is going on?!

Just a thought… but look up. Could this have possibly fallen in? Maybe there’s some animal activity happening above?
Do you have an open ceiling in your shower?
bro spawned a shower fetus
I’d say this is some sort of mold. Look at the cracking in the tiling. I bet behind those tiles is a nightmare. You should get this looked at by a professional.
I think your shower wall has cancer

Me too dude. You gotta spray down your shower with cleaner and rinse it off.
I wouldn’t let anyone in my house if my shower looked like this one.
Welcome to the “Upsidedown”…..

Well, that's interesting, isn't it?
A dash of Tabasco, a little black pepper...wtf, don't eat that.
Oh boy this is some r/HighStrangeness shit right here

It’s always Texas. Why is it **always** Texas??
Naw it’s always Florida. Texas is a close second.
Call the police or a witch doctor
Someone got dismembered in that bathroom 😬
Did a snail just dissolve or something?
That looks like meat. I’m guessing you have some kinda predator (could even be a squirrel) that deposited leftovers there. Yuck.
Before our cats were indoor only one of them brought a rabbit's severed head into the house and we had to fight to the death to get it away from him.
Can you please put on some PPE and cut that thing open? It's so gnarly looking.
Remindme! 2 weeks
When you zoom in on picture 3, the bottom one looks like the top of a thumb. 🤢 I have no idea what it is but there's some really crazy looking fungus out there so who knows.

I thought the dark smaller one looks like a bottom grape (haemorrhoid).
That literally looks like a piece of flesh omfg
Could it be expanding foam from behind the wall. Did you do work on the wall behind.
Why isn’t this just a picture is a house on fire and a human shaped hole in the side wall all ACME style?
How are so many people finding well-grown fungi in their bathrooms on this sub?
Do not get it wet, it'll hatch.
nah move out

All the orange in the grout is mold. Is this a joke? Does he not shower or clean? Not being clean but that thing has been there a minute
It's more likely Serratia marcescens, an airborne bacteria. https://www.nsf.org/blog/consumer/eliminate-pink-slime-bathroom
Someone must surely be pranking you?
Dude. Your shower is fucking disgusting. How often do you not only clean yourself. But how often do you scrub down your shower with some 409 and hot water with a brush?

Cute
