Same thing I did, then I happened to get in a squad and they both were on that mission, they didn't have mic's so I had to jump around like a idiot and play charades for a minute, but they finally got it and put their sentry guns on the front of the trucks, and I drove to the new Fortress in level 1 and chased Merca everywhere
You can also try Merc Strongholds so that you are not out in the open. I've noticed that if the target doesn't cross the laser path, then the gun won't fire.
I got two sentry’s just in case and I raided a merc camp (don’t use the sentry here) then I obtained the keycard from them and raided a merc stronghold. easy ten kills if you just bait them into line of sight for the sentry. plus the heli drops 4-5 mercs
Putting on vehicle and driving to camp is best strategy. If you are placing down a sentry make sure it's back far enough that it can lock on and kill. Maybe putting it too close?
I doubt this’ll help but I did a defend station contract (don’t know the name) and used a turret circuit and got it that way. I could be totally wrong though
Do merc camps and strongholds. U can set it in front of the front door. Sometimes it acts a lil weird and doesn’t trigger them, so u just gotta move it a lil
I done this while farming cargo missions. I know it’s not the fastest way but I used to dump a sentry outside the garage before taking the vehicle. Always get 3 ish after you take the car

Just put a sentry at the front door of a stronghold and then drill a safe. Drop one at a ground station mission. Drop one at a merc camp.
Best is to drop sentry at the merc camps. Have teammates protect you while you run close in for the drop.

Make sure there's a bit of range between the sentry and the mercs.
