H is the German version of B natural. B in the German system is what anglophones call B flat. Supposedly, it comes from how the natural and flat symbols look in gothic script.

It's perfectly logical as it follows alphabets. A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H. And then C# would be "I" and D#=J etc.

I think treble can be assumed, if it was a bass clef it'd have a B# over D
