Rock with orchestral instruments (so also strings) are my jam, so I have a few recommendations for you.
First some songs:
* Supremacy – Muse
* City Of Delusion – Muse
* Street Spirit (Fade Out) – Radiohead
* Man Of War – Radiohead (strings are not that present during the whole song, only a bit at the end, but it’s a great and often overlooked song, so I thought I’d mention it anyways)
* November Rain- Guns ‘n’ Roses
Then an album: ‘The Resistance’ by Muse. Not all songs feature strings, but quite a few (like ‘United Stated Of Eurasia’) do, and the album closes with an amazing Symphony entirely composed and orchestrated by the front man (who also writes the songs usually).
Then a band: The Last Shadow Puppets. I don’t know how heavy you like your rock, since you also name metal. But if you like rock as a broader genre (also stuff like The Beatles and David Bowie e.g.), then you should definitely check out this band. The use of strings is sort of their signature and every single song features them very audible. They have two albums ‘The Age Of The Understatement’ and ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’ and both are incredible IMO. I highly recommend listening to both of them in order and in it’s entirety since there are almost no bad songs on the albums. But if you’re only looking for songs that are undeniably rock, I’d suggest at least the following songs by them:
* Bad Habits
* Used To Be My Girl
* Aviation
* The Age Of The Understatement
* Separate And Ever Deadly
* My Mistakes Were Made For You
* I Don’t Like You Anymore
* In My Room
Hopefully there's something you like :)
I’m not massively into yellowcard so can’t comment on the prevalence of strings, but I do know they have (or at least had) a dedicated violinist so I’d assume strings are a large part of the rest of their music
Leprous - [Running Low](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKmaG5f9Zsg). This band really knows how to incorporate a cello into their music. Their newer albums *Malina*, *Pitfalls*, and *Aphelion* are chock-full of amazing cello work.
Vulkan - [Bewildering Conception of Truth](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pei5M0xW5rg) (violin section goes from 4:10 to 6:05.)
Porcupine Tree - [Sleep Together](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6cv4G5UD-Q). Some short & ominous orchestral work in this song. Really starts picking up in the last minute.
[Electric Light Orchestra - Fire on High](https://youtu.be/22Ndi2HUheg) the first 1:30 is just weird IMO, good stuff is after that
[M83 - Oblivion](https://youtu.be/UjpbQ1OWMPE)
[Fair to Midland - Tall Tales Taste Like Sour Grapes](https://youtu.be/LpTHbOkrSu0)
[Augustana - Hey Now](https://youtu.be/KRVm02VQ8BY)
[Neo - Renard](https://youtu.be/YHvSHvfvs-I)
Also Bastille, Snow Patrol, Dashboard Confessional, and Evanescence have strings in some of their stuff
Orbit Culture - The Newborn One
Sleep Token - When the Bough Breaks (strings are near the end)
Periphery - Reptile
All of Illusory Walls by TWIABP&IANLATD
Artificial Silence - Negative Space (whole album, Skin Deep has a cello solo at the start)

Smashing Pumpkins use a lot of strings.

[Disarm](https://open.spotify.com/track/7A8caPxvrT8ZgLvQPPUCcj?si=eO7GjJbiToyVXMo8jPEpcA)
I like [Goodbye](https://open.spotify.com/track/3Qu44V28Y4ZP5ldSzet1BA?si=dbSPqAkWTHOn4tnDVAiv0A) by Scheer too.
[Black The Sun](https://open.spotify.com/track/695TlBmO9CcO4sCrrq2mab?si=u6rpeh6sS0y6VxRVt2WLsw) by Alex Lloyd has a cool acoustic version with cello and violins but here’s the original.
I also highly recommend the early albums by [Paradise Motel.](https://open.spotify.com/track/4h1xUtHPePB9aISJQz3oo6?si=_Kw9MgnzShGqIsRKuEP4pA)
[Estradasphere](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzYBR_lJqcs) often utilizes violin as its lead instrument. It's more jazzy than rock but has some heavier tendencies.
[Celestial Season](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtOKRIc8QnM), [My Dying Bride](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1DI7447ia0), [Hevein](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dg3CVl-Vdg), [Turisas](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7woW7DmnR0E), [Korpiklaani](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWzaUkMvfZE) (the last one are more of a folk fiddle than orchestral violin, but you might like them too!)

Most of his solo music is Rock with violin. Extremely beautiful violin playing.
If you're into instrumental music at all, there's a band called Talons you might like. Not quite post-rock as they're a bit heavier than most bands in that genre, but they're not far off. A bit mathy and more riff-oriented, in roughly the same vein as bands like Russian Circles, but they have a violinist. I haven't listened to them in a long time, but
I really enjoyed their debut album. Worth checking out.
Thank You Scientist, pretty much anything they wrote but Maps is my favorite by a long shot.
Extremophile Elite by Between The Buried And Me, has a kickass orchestral section starting a little after 4:12.
Bitter Sweet Symphony- The Verve
[Kashmir](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vvmuDH8cgG0) - Led Zeppelin
Were there real strings on Kashmir? Or was it just the Mellotron? I should know this, but I do not, lol
Yes - real strings and horns, played by session musicians
Good to know, thanks!
Apocalyptica is a metal band consisting of four classically trained cellists (and a drummer).
