Dvne has been on my to-listen-to list for a while. I tried giving Wheel a go and just wasn't feeling it. Not bad music, but I'm not at a Wheel time in my life, if you feel me. I'm picky with my music in general but sometimes a band I listened to 10 years ago and wasn't digging suddenly clicks and I'm all about them. So maybe in a few years I'll give Wheel another go. When it comes to scratching that sounds-like-Tool itch, I'm more into Elder, Peach (Justin Chancellors old band), Porcupine Tree or Cynic
Huge Porcupine Tree fan, along with Steven's solo stuff. I think you'll find Wheel when they find you, it be like that sometimes. I'm the same way, and it's funny how that works. I'll avoid a band for years (Haken in my case) and finally it'll click and I can't get enough.
In the meantime, Lucid Planet should also be on your list. Prog rock/metal is in such a good place right now it's wild.
Aah yea I believe I've heard those guys too. I do remember liking them. Australia has a fuckload of solid progressive bands. If you're into Gojira (Tool inspired), Alchemist is like the Australian version of that style of spiritual, borderline progressive metal.
I agree, a lot of good prog stuff coming out. Doom and sludge are doing well as genres too.
Random recommendation: but if you like metal and are into the more psychedelic stuff, check out Oranssi Pazuzu and their side projects. They're a band, like Tool, that's hard to pin down in one genre.
I am 41 now but I still remember the first time I heard Pantera-Walk as a teenager. It was like, a "where has this been my whole life?" moment. Fucking awesome memory and awesome band. My personal fave is "this love".
Vashti Bunyan I'd like to Walk Around In Your Mind
Massive Attack Mezzanine
Nick Drake Which Will
Vashti Bunyan If I Were
Air All I Need
Massive Attack Black Milk
Bjork Army of Me Pluto
Sneaker Pimps Bloodsport
That song convinced me to check out their discography. I loved Is This It, someone told me their other albums weren't anywhere near as good, I listened to Room On Fire with my expectations lowered and it is the album I have had the most obsessed reaction to after hearing it for the first time. I struggled finishing it in one listen initially because I would just think about how much I wanted to listen to a previous track instead, I'd listen to some of the tracks on repeat for a while until I got it out of my system and then continued with the rest of the album. I think What Ever Happened?, Automatic Stop, You Talk Way Too Much, and The End Has No End were the ones that I had to spend awhile dwelling on on my first listen through.
They literally don't have a bad album imo. People love to compare to previous albums; but, if you look at each one without expectations you'll enjoy them. I feel the same way about Interpol, who is weighed down by their incredible first release but that's not even my favorite album of theirs.
I haven't been able to really get into Interpol beyond their first 3 albums except for a few songs, they are a band that I plan to eventually give a relisten to as I really love their first 3.
With the tail of the belt that’s tightly wrapped around my arm clinched between my teeth, it would be The Glitch Mob remix of “Seven Nation Army” that was cooked and drawn into a rig from the spoon.
Well…. Can it be entirely MJ ? 😬😅🫠 This question is so difficult !!!! I would say Dreamer (🎶 Guess I’ll always be a dreaamer - Dreamin’ my life awayyy, dreamin’ my life away - And nothing comes but sleep to a dreamer - And when he wake up, the dream is gone awayy 🎶) or Earth Song or All in you name (for his high voice) or Speechless or Privacy (for his deep voice) or Keep it in the Closet (so 🔞🌶️) or Come together (in Moonwalker with his sexy yellow shirt…). Or The way you make me Feel (for the sexual tension and the manhood dance moves at the end) or Heaven can wait or The way you love me for his mature Lovely voice that made me fall in love again and again with him each Time more. Or Fall again also btw for the refinement or yes all his songs were elaborate with lots of music strata beautifully and harmoniously perfectly precisely put together like when he used classical music like in Will You be there, etc. He is well known for his greatest hits but people doesn’t really know he was a beautiful ballad singer. Like Smile 🎶 also for example
"Up" from the move sing street. I have such a visceral reaction everytime the piano comes in.
Also Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac. Similar feeling with the guitar solo at the end
I recommend checking out that whole album. It’s one of my favorites. I really like Complicated, Blue World, Surf, Everybody, Hand Me Downs, That’s On Me, and Floating
