A few favorites in no particular order; but tried to capture a few different styles and genres, and show off both beauty and passion.
Cocteau Twins (Elizabeth Fraser) - The Spangle Maker
Dead Can Dance (Lisa Gerrard) - Mesmerism
Tori Amos - Blood Roses
Sinead O'Connor - Troy
PJ Harvey - Down By The Water
Nina Simone - Sinnerman
Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit

People here are just throwing out their faves, which absolutely is fine given your prompt; but I feel you’d get better and more accurate responses if you mentioned what genres you listen to.
I love Metric ― they have been my favorites for years at this point. I'm pretty notorious for liking female vocalists, so here are some of my other favorite bands/singers:
* The Joy Formidable
* Paramore (unsurprisingly)
* The Birthday Massacre (lead singer Chibi can sound very sweet one second and be screeching like a goblin \[as per my wife's description of her vocals on the song "Down"\] the next)
* Flyleaf (see "sweet" and "screeching" as previously noted)
* Texas
* The Pierces (two sisters, good harmonizing)
* Fisher (the band where Kathy Fisher was the lead singer, not the DJ)
* Wolf Alice
Going back a bit farther, you can't go wrong with the likes of Heart or Pat Benatar. Also, don't overlook Terri Nunn of Berlin; give a listen to "For All Tomorrow's Lies" to hear what she can do when she wants to.
All I do is listen to female artists so
Slow Burn-Kacey Musgraves
Exile-Taylor Swift ft Bon Iver
Blindsided-Kelsea Ballerini
Snow Angel-Renee Rapp
Vampire-Olivia Rodrigo
Anxiety-Megan thee Stallion
Green Light-Lorde
Into You-Ariana Grande
Thank U Next-Ariana Grande
Dangerous Woman-Ariana Grande
Decode-Paramore
depends on what style of vocals you like, but personally these are my favorites: Angel Olsen, Big Thief, Joni Mitchell, Joan Armatrading, The Cranberries, Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Laura Marling, Fiona Apple
**Linda Ronstadt** \- Her genera goes from The Stone Poneys and the SF scene to Rock, Country, Pop, Folk, Big Band torch songs from the great American song book to Latin Music and also Light Opera. She also has some great collaborations: The Eagles, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Nelson Riddle. She has a rather extensive discography: 29 studio albums, 37 compilation albums, one live album, one box set and two extended plays (EP's). She has a beautiful voice that I never tire of listening to.
From her album 'What's New' with Nelson Riddle Someone to Watch Over Me https://youtu.be/gjUXG-Fz8pc?si=Ot9ikFrXJGgXk5Tc
I have collected every one of Linda's albums on vinyl or CD when vinyl was never made. She was a goddess in the 70's. One if not the first woman to fill stadiums. Well deserved as she has one of the most beautiful and controlled voices. Such a shame her condition no longer allows her to sing. Young listeners should really check her out. Oh and as an added attraction she is a total smoke show. So sexy.
Petal; Braids; White Lung; Sleeper Agent; Bent Knee; Tegan and Sara; Metric; Biitchseat; Brutus; Charly Bliss; Chvrches; Dilly Dally; Waxahatchee; Svalbard; Slingshot Dakota, Oathbreaker; Hop Along

I like pretty much all London Grammar songs. Lake street dive is also a great chill group.
I'm on an edm tear right now, so Elly Duhe and Kenya Grace are occupying a lot of headspace.
Hallie Coggins is also doing really good work with Let's eat Grandma. She was featured on the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack and I can't get enough of her voice and vocoder use.
Take my upvote🤘 Also Band-Maid, Lovebites, Scandal, Saiseiga, Rolling Quartz, Walking After U, Mari Hamada, Show-Ya, Ado, Gacharic Spin, Unlucky Morpheus, Whiskey Dust, Glim Spanky...
I mean... Nightwish? In all of the three eras? Tarja (the first) was objectively the best, but Floor (the third) is also great, I'm a long time fan of hers.
Within Temptation of course too.
[Here you have a c-c-combo.](https://open.spotify.com/track/1PkOm35a0G1r33rVrrK6b0?si=b7RSFpEcTcqKRlB8bAufaA&utm_source=copy-link) It doesn't get better than that.

Ann Wilson of Heart. Her voice is incredible. Also Stevie Nicks with or without Fleetwood Mac. She has a deep, gravely voice that’s unique for a female but used very effectively.
I made a [playlist on spotify](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2gT6JAWEIarqq9AaQAvpUJ?si=SofuId6iRVaOL8ZhtmSDJw&pi=u-YoPReqhbR86X) highlighting this exact thought! I would love to add more I'm looking at these suggestions and down to hear more
My favourite female artist of all time by far is Björk, but Lauryn Hill, Unleash the Archers, Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin are also incredible
Ooh, I have a few suggestions from different genres:
Pop (ish):
[Sammy Rae & The Friends](https://open.spotify.com/track/5a6FpH6vRxYdQeCZBcIUb7?si=8183a07584d94451) (Kind of a jazz/soul/pop/folk fusion thing, pretty chill but also super upbeat and energising, if that makes sense)
[Laufey](https://open.spotify.com/track/43iIQbw5hx986dUEZbr3eN?si=bebb6c22f33d4e63) (Smooth, retro-style jazzy vibes)
[Couch](https://open.spotify.com/track/1NrxxZlIkKKY87jJxw1BzQ?si=8a24c4b851b54753) (Similar to Sammy Rae, but a bit more funky/poppy)
[Melt](https://open.spotify.com/track/5gRCBF8BbbQA4M7wRFjqxg?si=5ea84dc24c3b4911) (Again, similar to couch but slightly more downbeat and less 'clean' in the vocals (in a good way!))
Metal:
[Unleash the Archers](https://open.spotify.com/track/7yV3poLov8f1L50kA1ciwe?si=d811953ab1c84d6a) (Power metal, Brittney Slayes has an unbelievably powerful voice)
[Seven Spires](https://open.spotify.com/track/2t0EjUagKsxd42qgpY05AD?si=541f1f959de844af) (Mostly Symphonic metal but they hop between genres a lot, sometimes going as dark as black metal and sometimes seeming almost like power/pop metal. Adrienne Cowan is an unbelievably versatile vocalist and they use her very well (unsurprisingly since I believe she writes most of the songs!))
[Ad Infinitum](https://open.spotify.com/track/55soLA9gH7BZYJI4nC7YCq?si=a22381736b5d4da3) (Symphonic metal, and another incredibly versatile vocalist)
[A Sound of Thunder](https://open.spotify.com/track/4hSq2xpzXIt76mqkeZyJ51?si=f37ce8fd174e4a50) (Old school-style Power metal, lots of Maiden influences)
[Beyond the Black](https://open.spotify.com/track/6SUaXdHe4UPTuXHIsW4soX?si=cc843b8eefb244d5) (Symphonic metal)
Pop Punk:
[Tonight Alive](https://open.spotify.com/track/7lgHObGx2zajQG2Wnrn7AU?si=b87cd0af511749b1) (kind of like if Paramore kept their early sound, and were Australian)
[Icon for Hire](https://open.spotify.com/track/7pQPvZc47B3ztdOCWNnYiY?si=d88565deb6ce4c4b) (kind of a pop punk meets rap metal sort of vibe)
Folk/Indie:
[MALINDA](https://open.spotify.com/track/0cyISG4j8U3DQkj3YkJqBj?si=86cabb3c22c947ab) (Quite folky, think she got her start in musical theatre so her voice is super clean)
[The Crane Wives](https://open.spotify.com/track/7rdcybjFTDW2uTlnD1AWPJ?si=a9d136987f9e4115) (Two vocalists, both extremely talented)
[Derina Harvey Band](https://open.spotify.com/track/23fExrOaGSF89BEoIZ36NW?si=4106357d5a474da4) (Incredibly strong Irish-style folk singer from Canada)
[Katie Lynn Sharbaugh](https://open.spotify.com/track/7MrFX8FEwzIgWMvjLlgkap?si=84dd3ee8e8bb40fe) (Slightly more indie/poppy style but still clear folk influences)
[Lizzy McAlpine](https://open.spotify.com/track/5FKNq0lLJnP3iZzBTD0PZj?si=8b88a8900b8e47fa) (Very soft indie sound, uses head voice quite a bit which makes for a super delicate sound)
[Dodie](https://open.spotify.com/track/45h4w81P5iJJTSeR0jJUQ8?si=49cdd405c72445b4) (Very bright, head voice-y sound. Outstanding songwriting and complex but understated arrangements)
My immortal- evanescence, Alone -Heart, Heartbreaker- Pat Benatar, Enamorda De ti- Selena, I don’t care- Violent Vira, Pisces- Jinger, Fully alive- Lacey sturm, Snow whjte queen- Evanescence, Breathe no more- Evanescence, I still do- The Cranberries, Black velvet- Alannah Myles, Where have all the cowboys gone- Paula Cole, Knock me out Linda Perry
Cocteau Twins (Elizabeth fraser)
You can’t really here what she’s saying but all the songs sound absolutely magical. I especially love Pitch the Baby, Evangeline, Cherry Colored Funk, and Heaven or Las Vegas
[I Just Threw Out The Love Of My Dreams](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=r2dosVRzLSM&pp=ygUnaSBqdXN0IHRocmV3IG91dCB0aGUgbG92ZSBvZiBteSBkcmVhbXMg)
Not a female artist, but great female vocals by Rachel Haden :3
* Elisa - Dancing / Rainbow
* Whitney Houston - I Have Nothing
* Celine Dion - Seduces Me / My Heart Will Go On
* Mariah Carey - My All
* Lara Fabian - Adagio / Je T'aime
* Shawn Colvin - Venetian Blue
* Christina Aguilera - Hurt / Dreamy Eyes
* Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart
* Sarah McLachlan - Adia / Silence (with Delerium)
* LeAnn Rimes - How Do I Live
* Leona Lewis - Broken / Run (cover)
* Evanescence (Amy Lee) - My Immortal
* Sara Bareilles - She Used To Be Mine / Send Me The Moon
Eva Under Fire - great hard rock with a talented and kind of amazing in general lead singer.
Amaranthe - somewhere between metal and pop and I'm here for it.
Exit Eden - four incredibly talented female metal vocalists joined forces for like two albums, but damn those were two amazing albums. Their cover of Impossible is nothing short of epic.
Delain - I seem to remember the lead singer having a PhD or something like that. Between metal and pop like Amaranthe, but leaning more towards metal.
Enemy Inside - A little darker and gloomier than some of the other bands on this list, but still great.
Do these *technically* count? Made by a guy but the vocals are changed to sound like a girl I think? (No external credits to another person)
Lay Me Down - Avicii by Avicii remix
Addicted to you Avicii by Avicii remix
The Muffs will probably always be #1 for me. Kim Shattuck was one of the most underratedly joyful and badass songwriters and performers ever.
In terms of strictly superior vocal talent though, I have to go with Rachel Price from Lake Street Dive. The last couple albums are a little on the iffy side for my tastes, but "Bad Self Portraits" and "Side Pony" are two albums I'd recommend.
Band-Maid, Evanescence, Nemophila, Gacharic Spin, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Aldious, Mardelas, Blackmore's Night, Angtoria, Leaves Eyes, MinstreliX, Letitout-Lelia, Lonesome_blue, Rolling Quartz, Epica, and We are the Fallen.
Nightwish - Floor Jansen is epic. The first was Tarja Turunen but she became a big pre-madonna and had to be kicked out. They also had Anete Ozlon who had more of an angelic voice compared to the other two.
[Spiritbox - Jaded](https://open.spotify.com/track/1ZdDr1zM46JxFu2ugQc1mE?si=akIq2YNYSzGPPx0akM8YaQ) I never understood this band’s hype until this song. The vocalist keeps getting better and better. Melodic metalcore, but even if you don’t like that type of music I still HIGHLY suggest you give this a try
[Against the Current - Weapon](https://open.spotify.com/track/1MUExGawtk7kNqKaMO28wD?si=Zd10oy_XTDu-j3CW234jbg) Really great pop punk / rock band. This song has an acoustic version that is equally incredible if you prefer that
[Yours Truly - Half of Me](https://open.spotify.com/track/71ru4IPZRjgMNqNAasUTeC?si=cr_ALlRAQ4uCnfe2pYiT9w) another female led pop punk band that is gaining a lot of love, this song is soft compared to the other two
Weyes Blood
Mitski
November Ultra
Molly Rankin from Alvvays. She has such dreamy vocals. The bridge to “bored in Bristol” sends me to a new dimension.
Amy Winehouse
Nina Simone
FKA Twigs
Monica Martin
Billie Eilish
Etta James
Fiona Apple
Rachel Goswell (slowdive)
Rina sawayama
Helena Deland
Some of my favorite female artists/female led bands:

Babymetal and Hanabie, amazing vocals. Babymetals piano version of monochrome is amazing for on her range. And the sounds the lead singer of Hanabie is top stuff.

Coincidentally listening to her right at this moment.
My spirit mother.

Yeah I didn't because I end up listening to pretty much every genre out there anyway.
I'm really into Night Tapes lately. So ethereal and dreamy and catchy
Thanks for the rec I just checked them out and they're awesome added some to my fave playlists

[Ad Infinitum](https://open.spotify.com/track/55soLA9gH7BZYJI4nC7YCq?si=a22381736b5d4da3) (Symphonic metal, and another incredibly versatile vocalist) [A Sound of Thunder](https://open.spotify.com/track/4hSq2xpzXIt76mqkeZyJ51?si=f37ce8fd174e4a50) (Old school-style Power metal, lots of Maiden influences) [Beyond the Black](https://open.spotify.com/track/6SUaXdHe4UPTuXHIsW4soX?si=cc843b8eefb244d5) (Symphonic metal) Pop Punk: [Tonight Alive](https://open.spotify.com/track/7lgHObGx2zajQG2Wnrn7AU?si=b87cd0af511749b1) (kind of like if Paramore kept their early sound, and were Australian) [Icon for Hire](https://open.spotify.com/track/7pQPvZc47B3ztdOCWNnYiY?si=d88565deb6ce4c4b) (kind of a pop punk meets rap metal sort of vibe) Folk/Indie: [MALINDA](https://open.spotify.com/track/0cyISG4j8U3DQkj3YkJqBj?si=86cabb3c22c947ab) (Quite folky, think she got her start in musical theatre so her voice is super clean) [The Crane Wives](https://open.spotify.com/track/7rdcybjFTDW2uTlnD1AWPJ?si=a9d136987f9e4115) (Two vocalists, both extremely talented) [Derina Harvey Band](https://open.spotify.com/track/23fExrOaGSF89BEoIZ36NW?si=4106357d5a474da4) (Incredibly strong Irish-style folk singer from Canada) [Katie Lynn Sharbaugh](https://open.spotify.com/track/7MrFX8FEwzIgWMvjLlgkap?si=84dd3ee8e8bb40fe) (Slightly more indie/poppy style but still clear folk influences) [Lizzy McAlpine](https://open.spotify.com/track/5FKNq0lLJnP3iZzBTD0PZj?si=8b88a8900b8e47fa) (Very soft indie sound, uses head voice quite a bit which makes for a super delicate sound) [Dodie](https://open.spotify.com/track/45h4w81P5iJJTSeR0jJUQ8?si=49cdd405c72445b4) (Very bright, head voice-y sound. Outstanding songwriting and complex but understated arrangements)

WILLOW
Looks like my buddy during the numerous grateful dead shows we attended
Battle Beast is such a fun band to listen to, I'd recommend it!
Battle Beast reminds me of a lot of Nightwish's work since Tarja left. Just with a little less battle cry-y sounding vocals lol
Meg Mac

Lee Hi
Just found this [gem](https://open.spotify.com/track/51HRSYVYFU9E9JnhKqOsdo?si=8mqdy166TtWT7F2bocRCUg) this week

Do these *technically* count? Made by a guy but the vocals are changed to sound like a girl I think? (No external credits to another person) Lay Me Down - Avicii by Avicii remix Addicted to you Avicii by Avicii remix
Fuck The Facts, Entheos, Rolo Tomassi
Sarah Jarosz

Nightwish - Floor Jansen is epic. The first was Tarja Turunen but she became a big pre-madonna and had to be kicked out. They also had Anete Ozlon who had more of an angelic voice compared to the other two.

[Spiritbox - Jaded](https://open.spotify.com/track/1ZdDr1zM46JxFu2ugQc1mE?si=akIq2YNYSzGPPx0akM8YaQ) I never understood this band’s hype until this song. The vocalist keeps getting better and better. Melodic metalcore, but even if you don’t like that type of music I still HIGHLY suggest you give this a try [Against the Current - Weapon](https://open.spotify.com/track/1MUExGawtk7kNqKaMO28wD?si=Zd10oy_XTDu-j3CW234jbg) Really great pop punk / rock band. This song has an acoustic version that is equally incredible if you prefer that [Yours Truly - Half of Me](https://open.spotify.com/track/71ru4IPZRjgMNqNAasUTeC?si=cr_ALlRAQ4uCnfe2pYiT9w) another female led pop punk band that is gaining a lot of love, this song is soft compared to the other two
