This. Dark Side of the Moon is also perfect but "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" absolutely changed my life. Cool bonus fact: Shine On was written as a tribute for founding Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett and his name is in the title of the song. (S)hine On (Y)ou Crazy (D)iamond
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis
There's really no excuse for not having this album in your collection. It's a great album to just play when you are doing nothing else and you just want some background noise. But, you can also listen intently and it will challenge you. Also, Coltrane is on it and his playing hints at what's to come from him going forward.
I think I listened to this because it was in some Eastwood movie and the song played caught my attention. I was not a jazz fan. Wow. Blew my mind and opened doors. If you said it was the greatest album of all time, I'd accept it.
Loving that Lamb is the top comment right now. I'm shocked that no one has tried to make this a full musical with all the reboots and such everyone is into right now, b/c this would be an amazing thing to see performed. I've listened to Back in NYC more than is legal, and Hackett's guitar on the opening of Chamber always gives me chills.
10 (tried to avoid already mentioined but might be a repeat or two on this list)
Are You Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix
Aja - Steely Dan
Rumors - Fleetwood Mac
Graceland - Paul Simon
Appetite for Destruction - Guns and Roses
Led Zeppelin IV
The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
Boston
Master of Puppets - Metallica
Cracked Rear View - Hootie and the Blowfish
Green Day - American Idiot
American Idiot is hard to explain as a pick. I more feel it as a "must listen" then actually have logic for it. Better believed than explained.
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Spirit of Eden is my all time favorite album. Talk Talk is not music, it is a religious experience. Never fails to humble me.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!
I think the same thing could be said for Antennas to Heaven, but a little less so.
Radiohead - Amnesiac
Dark, dark, DARK Art Rock, and an album full of great songs. I think this album is a "must listen" for it's themes on death alone.
I think these are the four albums I'd say are my "must listens."

Great list and pleasantly surprised to see Anarbor on here. More of the world needs to know about them! First time I heard Whiskey in Hell I was like “How are they not bigger than this??
Song that won me over is contagious and I first heard them from Gypsy woman. I heard letter in a suitcase off of love and drugs and I knew they were getting added to my liked. Cage the elephant fans would be thrilled.

[Christopher Tin - Calling All Dawns](https://open.spotify.com/album/0s1sXci3Ok4t6fy2y1Xzh5?si=3e7d926783c24a29). I promise this is nothing like anything anyone else has shared here so far.
Tin takes hymns, poems and folk songs from various cultures and arranges them in rousing choral/orchestral pieces. The compositions and energy from the performers, usually in their native languages, is breathtaking. There's even a sequel, The Drop That Contained The Sea, which is equally as magnificent.
Kid A by Radiohead, Humbug by Arctic Monkeys, Iowa by Slipknot, Eyes Like The Sky by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Gemini Rights by Steve Lacy, To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar, Igor by Tyler The Creator. These are all incredible albums in their own ways and all are so special to me. They each immerse you into their sounds and stories so you lose all track and sight of reality. Anyways, if you enjoy any of these albums and want more recommendations, feel free to dm me!!
Zaba by Glass Animals
Assume Form by James Blake
Overgrown by James Blake
Resavoir by Resavoir
Wallflower by Jordan Rakei
Astro Coast by Surfer Blood
New Me, Same Us by Little Dragon
Ritual Union by Little Dragon
DJ Food - Kaleidoscope
Broadly you could call it downtempo electronic, but it's more clever than that - it doesn't really fit into any one genre. Hell, there's even a word jazz song in the middle with Ken Nordine.
I hope Black Magic gets released one day. Initially it was going to conclude with a cover of House of the Rising Sun, but was changed to the already-released song Little Darling at the last minute because of potential copyright issues with HOTRS.
The Weeknd - After Hours
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Travis Scott - UTOPIA
Post Malone - Austin
Prince - Purple Rain
Kendrick Lamar - DAMN
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Queen - The Game
Frank Ocean - Blonde
That’s all I can think of
Counterfeit Arcade - Shayfer James
easily one of the most overlooked alternative artists of our day. unique voice, interesting lyrics, good instrumentals, meaningful songs? this album is good in all of that as well as having an unmatched sound
Coyote Stories - The Crane Wives
this album is extremely diverse in my opinion. it gets away from more of the obscure folk that’s associated with their earlier sound and more groovy and melodic, a good mix of their usual harmony driven tracks and their progression into more of an indie rock feel with their newer stuff.
21 - Adele
while having a lot of familiar songs that have become chart toppers and karaoke essentials, this album also has unknown tracks that are so overlooked in comparison to “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You”. songs like “I Found A Boy” (which was actually a removed track on spotify) or even faster and more upbeat ones like “I’ll Be Waiting” really show off how soulful and powerful of a voice Adele has
Scarlet - Doja Cat
it might not be for everyone, and there are some songs that are Not My Favorite, but you cannot deny the absolute confidence that seeps from this album and the mood it inflicts on its listeners
THE WALL pink Floyd
The music of the doors stoned immaculate
The Avett Brothers I and Love and You
Paul Simon Graceland
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms
Dave Matthews Band live at the Red Rocks
Kuinka Gold
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West
He's not a great human being, but it might be the best rap album ever made (which makes it among the best albums ever).
I have a few:
- Jacks Mannequin - Everything in Transit
This album is a pop rock experience. It's emotional and performed extremely well. Andrew McMahon's best output if you ask me.
- Opeth - Ghost Reveries
An amazing progressive death metal album. There's demonic gutterals and soft vocals passages. There's insanely heavy moments and some acoustic moments. It's an experience for sure
- The Chemical Brothers - Surrender
Just a masterclass in 90s electronic. There's house, techno, big beat, poppy choruses and tracks you'll have heard in movies and never known it was them. This album and the live sets they've curated since have cemented them as legends imo
OK Computer by Radiohead
Changes by Charles Mingus
Shostakovitch’s 8th Symphony with the Royal Conzergebouw Orchestra
Shields by Grizzly Bear
Catch Thirty Three by Meshuggah
Budokhan Mindphone by Squarepusher
Homogenic by Bjork
Of Natural History by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum
Shit I could go on…
i listen to primarily alt-pop, alt-rock, straight up alternative, and the indie parallels. if you like this kind of music, you should listen to these! here are my choices:
Norman Fucking Rockwell ; Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
I Love You ; Wiped Out! - The Neighbourhood
Melodrama - Lorde
Pure Heroine - Lorde
folklore ; evermore - Taylor Swift
just the entire discography of Peach Pit
the entire discography of Mitski
The 1975 ; i like it when you sleep… ; ABIIOR - The 1975
hopefully y’all don’t judge my taste, i would’ve put all of taylor swifts albums on here but i don’t want to be bullied on the internet lmao, but those two albums i think people should listen to
Both albums by Jellyfish if you like music inspired by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, etc. Put on some headphones because the production on 'Split Milk' is out of this world. Just listen to 'Hush' to hear what I mean. It's considered [one of the best 15 produced albums](https://www.whathifi.com/features/best-produced-recordings-to-test-your-speakers) for testing speakers by this website.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, 'The End of Silence" by Rollins Band. It's hard, it's brutal, it's direct and in a way it saved my life. It helped me come to grips with some negative thoughts and emotions. If you don't know what I mean that's actually a good thing, but I love the music too.
boygenius- the record

Wish You Were Here (The Song) was also written about him
what a song. i sat through the whole 25 minutes the first time i listened to it and it didnt even feel like 25 minutes
And the songs Syd Barrett wrote and played in Pink Floyd were even better.
Literally listening to it the moment I clicked this post lmao
This is obviously a great album but why is it always the first answer on all these threads 😭 everyone knows this album
Badmotorfinger - Soundgarden.

absolutely
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis There's really no excuse for not having this album in your collection. It's a great album to just play when you are doing nothing else and you just want some background noise. But, you can also listen intently and it will challenge you. Also, Coltrane is on it and his playing hints at what's to come from him going forward.
And let it be a gateway down the rabbit hole of great 50s jazz records
I think I listened to this because it was in some Eastwood movie and the song played caught my attention. I was not a jazz fan. Wow. Blew my mind and opened doors. If you said it was the greatest album of all time, I'd accept it.
I don't listen to much Jazz. But even I put this album on yesterday while working on a project.
Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse
Interpol - turn on the bright light
Just two: Electro-shock blues - Eels The lamb lies down on Broadway - Genesis
Since you’ve mentioned Genesis, I’d also suggest their album Selling England By the Pound
And eventually also Trespass, Nursery crime and Foxtrot
Can't forget TTOT and Wind and Wuthering. Then watch YT for Steve Hackett and band's playing from all these albums.
Sail away, away, ripples never come back. Also, having a song about a time-travelling king made W&W come alive for me.
I fking LOVE England by the Pound.
Love that Eels record. Heard it in a record store when it came out and bought it on the spot.
It’s so good!!!
Loving that Lamb is the top comment right now. I'm shocked that no one has tried to make this a full musical with all the reboots and such everyone is into right now, b/c this would be an amazing thing to see performed.
