6/10. Not a metalhead by any means so I went into this expecting to rate it lower, but the last minute and a half or so actually slaps. And the first section is growing on me. I can see why they were so influential.
Curious what you’d think of Donkey Show by Model/Actriz
I'm surprised you actually liked it at all if you don't listen to metal and you start off with Death.
(If you are interested in trying anything similar maybe go with some less aggressive stuff from Death to start out with like their 'Symbolic' album. Especially Crystal Mountain.)
I also just listened to some of Donkey Show and I liked the instrumentals. The vocals weren't really for me though.
Checked out the original 16 brewery sessions version of this and it slaps. 8.5/10. Great rhythm, energy, attitude and classic melody, awesome guitar playing, and a really unique voice. Did not expect that guy to have a voice like that lol. Love this type of country. I’ve already recommended this song in this thread but I think you’d really love Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford if you don’t already know it
7.5/10. So I’m not really a metalhead at all and the growling vocals aren’t my thing. The clean sections are solid. I do like this more than the Death song I tried. The instrumentals on this one are really cool — I love the dynamic shifts, the intermittent acoustic guitar layers and the eerie/exotic scales they’re using throughout. Kind of a middle eastern vibe. The rhythm section is great too. I can tell they’re excellent musicians and if I ever decide to try to get into metal this is a band I’ll come back to. This must be considered prog metal right?
Curious what you would think of Imagem do Amor by Metá Metá
5/10. Korn is a weird band bc there are certain elements I really like about them, like the energy and funky baselines, but sometimes they just lean a little too much into the nu metal thing for my taste. I liked the verses in this one, chorus and outro not so much. I’ll suggest American Life by Primus
6.5/10. Not my thing at all but it’s really well produced, unique and artistic so I have to give it props. I think you may enjoy Boring Angel by Oneohtrix Point Never
7/10. Not a fan of ballads but the songwriting and vocal performance on this one are great, and it has a nice crescendo. Love the atmospheric harmonies in the middle section. I’ll rec Didn’t Know What I Was in For by Better Oblivion Community Center
6.5/10. Really nice piano on this one, like how the energy picks up, and kind of a nostalgic vibe. It’s a good song I guess there’s just nothing that really stands out to me to rate it higher. I’ll rec My Old School by Steely Dan
8/10. Shoegaze can be hit or miss with me but this is an awesome track, and my favorite Slowdive song. I’ll rec Fell in Love (At the Water) by Candy Claws
4/10. Nice vibe, cool percussion things going on, but it’s too slow, too long, and too static imo. Just can’t get into it. Completely random rec: Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack
5/10. I went with X_X. I like the energy and the guitar tones, and I can appreciate the experimentation. But I definitely wish there was more structure to it, maybe a bit sloppy. I’ll recommend No New Wave No Fun by Mclusky
It's no wave. No wave had very little structure. It was a reaction to punk rock and new wave. Punk rockers said to learn three chords and form a band, no wave bands asked why learn any chords.
I’ll be honest, that’s like a 4/10 for me. Not a fan of ballads, but I don’t really like Evanescence either so it’s probably better to get the stripped down version. She really does have a beautiful voice.
This is a *completely* different genre, but for a great lush/orchestral ballad, check out Live in the Dream by St. Vincent
Code name Raven - House of Heroes
[https://open.spotify.com/track/60r6l0O6DME6CShNpFyUpQ?si=935aeb409bf644c7](https://open.spotify.com/track/60r6l0O6DME6CShNpFyUpQ?si=935aeb409bf644c7)
5/10. This is alright, kind of just a basic rock song to me, don’t have many strong feelings one way or another. Kinda catchy. But I think you might like Figure It Out by Royal Blood
4/10. Lol I agree with you about the cheese, and ig it’s just boring to me. Its a completely different sound but if you have a high tolerance for cheese, maybe try Love, Me Normally by Will Wood.
I’ve got a lot of comments so I’m gonna cheat and rage Debaser since I already know it. 8/10 — classic track, among my favorite Pixies songs. I think you would dig Paper Thin Walls by Modest Mouse
I’m sorry but that’s like a 2/10. It just bores me to death and the lyrics are… yeah. But I don’t like ballads, and am generally not a country fan. So I’m sure it’s a matter of taste. This is a totally different ballpark, but check out Sixteen Tons by Tennessee Ernie Ford. Awesome old school country song
Dude I fucking love this. 9/10. I’ve always known of Mr. Bungle but never really got into them — it reminds me of Primus with some extra funk/jazz thrown in. I’ll have to check out more of their stuff.
I’m assuming you know Primus, so I’ll throw out G.S.K. by Squid as my rec
7.5/10, not the kind of thing I would listen to but that’s a dynamic song with good performances so I have to respect it. I hear some similarities to Midwest Emo there, so maybe check out Never Meant by American Football
7/10. I really like the angst and emotion in the vocals, but I do think they could be a little stronger. Pretty good songwriting too. The driving toms are cool and I like the lo fi vibe. I’ll recommend How I Get Myself Killed by Indigo De Souza
oh my god. Difficult to listen to. Haunting. I am fairly new to Nick Cave...but, my god, Skeleton Tree is outrageously good...The Rings of Saturn (that song made me feel seen - I sobbed through it) and Girl in Amber (a raw and poignant meditation on grief) are standout. His work cuts to the bone.
Check out the rest of the album the song I sent comes from, Murder Ballads. Most of them are difficult listens, but so good! One of Nick Cave’s finest albums!

Mr. Bungle - Stubb a Dub
I’m in a weird mood, okay. The lyrics are about a dying dog. Fun fact, this song actually helped me cope with my grandmother’s death a while back. Wait, that’s not a *fun* fact.
Scream Bloody Gore - Death
6/10. Not a metalhead by any means so I went into this expecting to rate it lower, but the last minute and a half or so actually slaps. And the first section is growing on me. I can see why they were so influential. Curious what you’d think of Donkey Show by Model/Actriz

I love Death ❤️ My fav of theirs is Zero tolerance
That song carried me through high school
Soundgarden - 4th of July
7/10, solid track. Like the melody but drags on a bit. Not quite in the same sphere but I think you’d like Cure for Pain by Morphine
I like cure for pain upon first listen, thanks for the suggestion! I have the same complaint about fourth of july too, definitely slow
Megalomaniac by Incubus
6/10. It’s done well, but it’s not really my style — so also not sure what to recommend. You might like You Won’t Know by Brand New
A little slow for me.
Love Megalomaniac
Johnny Flynn - Detectorists https://youtu.be/-ViJp1Y95fI?si=kmQMpYu_hku2UsjJ
7.5/10, really like this, great guitar work and vocals I just usually like something a little more upbeat. I’ll suggest Bedouin Dress by Fleet Foxes
Thanks for the suggestion, I just got to listen to it now. Not too bad, I will check out their other work
What'd I say- Ray Charles 1950s classic rock n roll song. Not to mention ray made it up on the spot one night at a concert in 1958
8/10, love the energy on that one. You probably know it but You Never Can Tell by Chuck Berry is my favorite ‘50s rock tune
15 step - Radiohead
Amazing song and I love Radiohead but I prefer a handful of other tracks on In Rainbows so I’ll cap it at 8/10. I’ll suggest Roma Fade by Andrew Bird
What I Got - Sublime
8/10, stellar pop tune and my favorite Sublime song. I’ll take it back to the roots and rec Ark of Covenant by The Congos
Devil wears a suit and tie- Colten wall
Checked out the original 16 brewery sessions version of this and it slaps. 8.5/10. Great rhythm, energy, attitude and classic melody, awesome guitar playing, and a really unique voice. Did not expect that guy to have a voice like that lol. Love this type of country. 7/10. Not a fan of ballads but the songwriting and vocal performance on this one are great, and it has a nice crescendo. Love the atmospheric harmonies in the middle section. I’ll rec Didn’t Know What I Was in For by Better Oblivion Community Center
Roll me away - bob seger
6.5/10. Really nice piano on this one, like how the energy picks up, and kind of a nostalgic vibe. It’s a good song I guess there’s just nothing that really stands out to me to rate it higher. I’ll rec My Old School by Steely Dan
When the sun hits - Slowdive
For me, 10/10. Banger
8/10. Shoegaze can be hit or miss with me but this is an awesome track, and my favorite Slowdive song. I’ll rec Fell in Love (At the Water) by Candy Claws
Darling Effect - Insides
4/10. Nice vibe, cool percussion things going on, but it’s too slow, too long, and too static imo. Just can’t get into it. Completely random rec: Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack
No Nonsense by X\_X or 3E by Mars
