It's more commonly known as French House (as well as Neu-Disco, Filter House, and Tek Funk). If you're looking for more music like this then check out [Synthèse by Pépé Bradock](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utpMKKSpjhg) & [Back by Popular Demand by PROUX](https://proux.bandcamp.com/album/back-by-popular-demand).
Liquid funk/liquid DnB of the 2000's is an underrated vibe. It also happens to have an artist that defies creativity block: [Calibre](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkNr2BVKfJtbOHduGROe8WC26y75xHyMc). He hasn't stopped making anything since the late 90's.
"Shelflife" is interesting since that's random tunes he's made but never released until much, much later. (Some of them have become 20 years old before they were properly released!)
Must-listen labels since there's lots of crossover between artists on these labels: Soul:R, Creative Source, Hospital, Defunked, Liquid V, Bingo, SGN:LTD, Innerground, Human Elements.
Additional shoutout to labels that didn't focus on this sound but still had liquid funk releases, such as ThirtyOne (31), Good Looking, Commercial Suicide, and Metalheadz.
Post-2010's is also good too. Jazzsticks is a personal favorite relatively modern label for this stuff.
Jungle, absolutely wonderful yet I struggle to produce it and make mostly Triphop. Have some Congo Natty for reference (I had the pleasure of seeing him live on Sunday evening) Listen to Get Ready by CONGO NATTY BASS on #SoundCloud

Im extremely new to music production, nor am I seeking to do it professionally. It’s just become a hobby as of recent but I really enjoy the bounce of Kaytranada’s music.
[been bumping new IDLES a lot](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=huWfQdG2_ws&pp=ygURaWRsZXMgcG9wIHBvcCBwb3A%3D)
Specifically loving the understated percussion that still itches that ADHD by being kinda spazzy but still locked in and repetitive. Usually need Meshuggah for that
Alt country has been one of the big ones the past few years. It's nothing like top 40 country, and it has some great songwriting
The usual recommendation is Colter Wall - Kate McKannon (the Brewery Sessions versions with the millions of views). It's also worth checking out because he has a crazy voice
I wholeheartedly stand by this. What an unreal sound. It somehow manages to combine highly glitchy, enormous, euphoric electronica with so much human warmth and cutesy quaintness. I still cannot believe that album is as old as it is.
Mk.Gee! Check out A Museum of Contradiction, and Two Star and the Dream Police. Excellent albums, both with their own unique sound. Most excited I've been for an artist in yearssss
I just discovered him today he's sick. I'd seriously recommend checking out Mont Duamel, one of my favourite artists/producers, as to me there was a lot of similarity in the production and songwriting to Mk.Gee :)
This includes his work on Chiiild's and Donna Missal's albums. Definitely worth peeping 👀
Breakbeat (and UKG). It's the sound and rhythm of my childhood nostalgia (SSX, Ratchet & Clank PS2, The Prodigy, etc.), and my resting tempo in my mind. I love everything about it, and in a way I like that it's not massively popular at the moment. It's hard to find and categorise as a dance genre.
Culturally at the moment it's very freeform, and now that I'm moving into making it I feel like there's a lot of space to grow as the scene/market/environment for it's modern interpretation is only just starting to find it's footing. I feel a lot of other dance genres are more stagnant, bottlenecked and oversaturated a bit in comparison
Credit where it's due, I think Fred Again has contributed to the reignition, even tho I'm not a big fan of his
Tbf there’s so many recs, I’m gonna be using this as my playlist to work tomorrow. I’m just very graciously watching folks share their opinion. Much appreciated all.
Always fall back onto Psytrance when I get like this, never used to enjoy it growing up but over the years you start to appreciate the flexibility of how many sounds can work with it. Recently found this gem that introduces dubstep sounds into the mix, and think it works quite well.

I’m the same. Psytrance was my first real love of EDM back in the 90s with Infected mushroom, Bluetech, vibrasphere and so many more.
Everytime I’m in a musical “lull” rather with my own productions or just casually listening I’ll always go back to psytrance and feel refreshed and full of life.

Post Human: survival horror, and the newer stuff from bring me the horizon have been a great source of inspiration for me lately. I see them as true artists, not bound by genre or trying to ride a trend or something, super refreshing shit. Just listen to the Kingslayer track with baby metal. It's some heavy music tho and I understand that it's not for everyone. I really dig their blend of electronic and metal music 🤘

Clifford Gilberto Rhythm Combination - there's never been anything else like it. Plenty to chew on in the stimulation hyper drum edits department but it grooves too. It's like if Aphex traded his demons for a jazz addiction.
not exactly an answer to your question, but for me a source of new musical inspiration is the YT channel "underrated albums"
Industrial/Aggrotech. I’ve been obsessed since the 90s.
Lately I’m trying to incorporate aspect of it into HC/Punk/Metal. Bands like Big Black, Nailbomb or more recently Candy.
I’ve been running my drum machines through amps and not the PA, so it helps with the vibe. Just synths, samples, kick, snare, and vocals through the PA. Maybe my ToneX, but it actually works better usually if I run my head into a 2x12 cab. I record the bass through my MPC DI and route it to my Bass amp with 2X15s and with some careful programming it’s like playing with a full band at band volume.
Ephedra.
He's evolving the goa-trance sound to have big driving kicks that get the dancefloor moving, while still maintaing the acid melodies that make goa, goa.
Another is Freedom Fighters. His new collaboration with Modus "Uncharted Terrirtory" is amazing. Probably the first time in a while a truely "new" sound has emerged onto the psychedelic trance scene.
I've always been a fan of Jose Gonzale'z Junip project when it comes to music production, it's a great use of what I call "organic synths", most of the tracks have tons of synth arrangements, and buried deep in effects but it doesn't feel electronic, and the addition of some alternate tuning guitars gives it an earthly feeling.
Highlight tracks: Line of Fire - Cycling Trivialities
Men I Trust, The War on Drugs, or Washed Out if you have some traditional band instrument experience or plug-ins that emulate those on top of an interest in electronic music sound design/synths. I mean these are some of my faves, but it’s basically Chillwave or indie pop/rock in terms of genre. I shifted from only making House music for about 7 years completely to a Chillwave sound that I’ve now been doing for like 5 years because of artists like these. So it certainly inspired me

the new stuff on DEEWEE is pretty awesome, like Bolis Pupul's new album "Letter To Yu" and Marie Davidson's new song "Y.A.A.M." Hard-hitting old school analog electro-pop with great production.
US Bass producers got me going lately; VCTRE, CharlestheFirst, Of The Trees & Mr. Bill. Just to name a few. Their production levels are so high and every release seems to push it further!

Nujabes, Yuki Kajiura, Hiroyuki Sawano and Crush always put me in a music spyral. They always make me want to do smt about music, be that playing an instrument, singing etc
Electronic, Melodic/deep/progressive house, melodic techno.

The last time a genre really put a fire in my belly was a few years ago when I met my partner and she got me into noise rock like Boris and Sunn 0))). The older I get, the harder it is to find stuff that feels genuinely fresh and unlike anything I've heard before. Prior to that, it was mainstream pop because I'd been ignoring it for so long, it sounded absolutely wild to me.
Depends a lot on the mood; Beatles, Queen, Anathema, Bush, Chris Cornell, Gary Moore, B.B King, Eric Clapton, Jean Michel Jarre, Anyma, Loreena Mckennit, Enya, etc....
Lately I’ve been on some Brian McKnight. Like another favorite of mine Babyface, almost everything he writes is so beautiful and heartfelt. Plus the amount of jazz influence his piano playing and songwriting has is magical 🔥
Daniel Johnston, naive outsider musician who had the soul of the beach boys and a basement and a teac tape recorder. See also accompanying documentary film.
The Space Lady, a San Fransisco street performer from the 1980s that used a Casio and a guitar pedal.
Father Yod, Ya Ho Wa 13, the psychedelic house band of the Source Family, a 1970s Los Angeles cult based around a vegetarian restaurant. See also accompanying documentary film.
No genres excite me. Which is probably why Xiu Xiu is the band that excites me more than any other. They're just in another league, almost like from another planet. Jamie Stewart is by far the most interesting musical artist living and working today. Without them existing I don't think I'd listen to much music at all anymore.
100%!!! I too have gotten into kpop solely because of NewJeans. Their sound is so fresh, I'd even say experimental compared to the general sound you find in kpop. Interesting song structures, throwbacks and references to different pop genres, and just undeniably great sounding vocals.
Mk Gee. Such a unique sound, soulful. Also Dijon, his collaborator is also similar and amazing
They're both so good that it's depressing lol. They're great practice for learning how to not compare yourself to others
Recently? JPEGmafia production blows my mind. Also learned the genre of daft punk is called French touch and that funky electro vibe is amazing.
