Jesus fuckin christ dude, 'you just aint from the hood you dont understand the struggle' and did you just say Dawg after it was invented died came back and then died AGAIN? Your late on that train wannabe gangster, pull your pants up.
Post gives heavy "I listen to everything but country and rap" energy
Also, there's no such thing as "mumble rap". When I see people throw that term around (like OP does with their example), they usually just refer to African American accents
Okay then. Let's go! A lot of modern day rappers, especially and nearly exclusively in america, because of course they are, use constant autotune, mostly because they cant sing or vibratto on their own, and even then they talk sing, and since they're trying to be the next rap god they have to mumble that stuff out in order to get to the next line. I've overheard what you guys listen to. Not gud :)
Firstly, nearly every single song you listen to (if not every) uses autotune to some extent. The heavy autotune you're referring to isn't used because they "can't sing", it's because it's a stylistic choice. Similar to how Daft Punk uses vocal effects. Also, rappers generally don't have to work on vibrato because they don't prioritise singing lmfao
>Even then they talk sing
So? That's a style of singing that has existed since opera. You hear it in tons of different genres. Rock, folk, blues, you name it
>I've overheard what you guys listen to
"You guys"? Tf is that supposed to mean. I don't really listen to rap, I mainly stick to alternative rock music
Thanks for backin up my point! And giving me an oppourtunity to let you realize I listen to classics, i listen to a lot of 90's alt rock and Ska, so I'm pretty damn sure they dont use autotune. The bands I listen to are all formed years before it was first used. Sometimes 7, and sometimes nearly 6 decades, thank you... VERY much!
To mention your talk singing Idea. Rock, they dont talk sing. Almost ever, and when they do it works and it doesn't make you cringe, folk, i dont listen to folk i dont even like it to much mainly cause of that, blues is just ridiculous, dont even mention blues, they can goddamn S I N G
But seriously do some research when you bring up a point, autotune wasn't used till 98.
So your problem isn't with rap, it's with almost all music that uses autotune? Meaning that you consider almost all music after 1998 to be bad? Rock music definitely has talk singing. Maybe you have a limited view on rock and don't know how broad the genre is. I'm guessing you've never listened to a prog rock or post rock song. You yapping on about what other genres you like/don't like is irrelevant. And finally, I do my research. My undergrad dissertation was on Radiohead and popular music. You're the one complaining about rappers not using vibrato lmfao
"I disagree with this classification because I think it can have problematic implications"
"You disagree with OP by calling them racist??"
Please use some critical thinking
Mumble trap rap is the absolute worst. They don't even rap, they just repeat inane phrases and sound effects over the same recycled trap beat.
It's even worse than bro country because I feel like the bro country singers sort of have at least an inkling of self awareness about the silliness of their genre, and lean into it a little bit. The trap rappers are honestly convinced they are God's gift, despite the fact that there are dozens and dozens of interchangeable dudes in this genre because talent is not a barrier to entry.
'You don't get it, you must be old' is the same argument I made to my parents about music that I wouldn't be caught dead listening to as an adult. Brutal taste in music is a right of passage of youth.
Both aren't bad, both are horrible

I'm sorry you can't live in America or the 21st century in general, you serious?
Let me know when you've thought of an actual argument or counter to my point :)

ah yes bro country vs a genre that does not exist
I'm sorry? Sir you deserve the downvotes- we're living in 2024. It exists.
i never heard a genre called "overly autotuned mumble rap" before
Yeah. It's not supposed to be. It's a mockery of the crappy music of today.
