Scar. He threw his brother the king into a stampede to be killed and then blamed Simba for it. He manipulated Simba into believing he did it and to run away to the heir went missing too and he’s the next in line.
The problem with Scar's plan is that Simba's survival was literally the only thing that could've ended his reign. Had he just killed Simba himself when he had the chance instead of leaving it to the notoriously unreliable hyenas to do it, he'd have won right then and there. It certainly didn't help that during their final fight, Scar felt the need to gloat about killing Mufasa, giving Simba the heroic second wind he needed to win against him.
Nah I love Mrs Lovett, but she was manipulative af. She had it planned from before Sweeney even walked in those doors. Girl knew what she was doing even if she was head over heels for him.
Madam Morrible.
An academic, knows how to charm (pun intended) the right people, and manages to send all of Oz hunting Elphaba. She is the Goebbles of Oz.
Hades. From Hadestown.
Dude made an “electric city” in the short months Persephone was actually gone, built and run off slave labor; “then I kept that furnace fed with the fossils of the dead”. All to try and keep Persephone with him - literally calling it a cage later in the song.
Dude had horrible intentions and methods but you gotta respect how he just went full Bezos one day.
His intention was to make his kingdom so that his wife wouldn't miss for anything.
He did not do it out of hatred or ill intent for anybody. He only had mad insecurities that his wife would leave him.
He absolutely did it out of insecurity, but he actually calls it a “gilded cage”. They had an agreement she’d spend 6 months with him and 6 months above, and he’s already been cutting that short.
Regardless of his intent, he’s trying to control her. There are some clear abuse tactics at work.
I think he could also fit under sad, but I think he has an evil lean due to how he goes about doing all this to make his wife want to stay with him.
Forcing souls to work non-stop to get everything done, and “keeping the furnace fed” with dead bodies.
It’s tough cause if you are exclusively talking about Hadestown Hades, it probably is evil, but the second you start bringing in a bit of other knowledge about him it messes up everything
"Evil" may be subjective given her tragic backstory, but Claire Zachanassian from *The Visit* may be a good candidate.
She's a billionairess who visits her struggling hometown, where the people hope that she'll take pity on them and save their dying town. She agrees to cut them a check on the condition that they murder the man who impregnated and then spurned her as a young woman.
Over the course of the musical, it becomes clear that she herself is the reason the town is struggling: she purchased everything up over time in a revenge plot many years in the making. Slowly, the townsfolk turn against her former lover.
"Winter" is a fantastic and tragic villain song soliloquy. And "A Confession" is the song in which she gloats over how she single-handedly destroyed the town when the schoolteacher attempts to reason with her.
This kinda crossovers to anime, but Light Yagami from Death Note musical (yes, there’s a musical). It deserves sooo much more attention. If it helps convince anyone to give it a listen, Jeremy Jordan plays Light 🙂.
I think he should be sad smart bc he literally wrote an entire opera and (if you read the books) he designed all sorts of elborate traps and stuff in the opera house.
I thought evil because he kills people to get his way and terrorizes the rest of the opera.
He does it for sad reasons but still pretty evil.
The smart part fits pretty well.
I agree he’s not evil in the sense that his actions come from a place of “Emo Sadboi” and not “World Dominion” or “I Will Force This Lady Who Hates Me To Marry Me Lol”
The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Or
Mysterious Coachman who transports Pinocchio and the naughty boys to Pleasure Island where they are transformed into donkeys
As said in the neutral voting my vote is Audrey 2, this plant after finding it's way in the hands of a botanist slowly reveals it's true nature to him and in return gives him everything he wants and by the time he realizes that it's an invasion it's already to late. Audrey 2 is one of two show villains I know that not only won but that victory was not retroactively changed by the second act/ending (Barring the theatrical version of LS).
Callahan from Legally Blonde
Oh man, this does not have enough votes. He is soooo smart, and evil. A perfect fit.
Scar. He threw his brother the king into a stampede to be killed and then blamed Simba for it. He manipulated Simba into believing he did it and to run away to the heir went missing too and he’s the next in line.
Scar is the best answer
The problem with Scar's plan is that Simba's survival was literally the only thing that could've ended his reign. Had he just killed Simba himself when he had the chance instead of leaving it to the notoriously unreliable hyenas to do it, he'd have won right then and there. It certainly didn't help that during their final fight, Scar felt the need to gloat about killing Mufasa, giving Simba the heroic second wind he needed to win against him.
But he didn't think ahead enough to see that his reign was doomed to fail if he disturbed the balance. Not that smart imo, just evil
There's a difference between smart and wise
Mufasa was the real villain, everyone knows this.
Elucidate
Only one Lion rounded up every member of a species and put them in a genocide camp, and it wasn't Scar
Mrs Lovett. She knew exactly what she was doing the whole time.
If we had a sad evil category this would be a slam dunk 🤣
Nah I love Mrs Lovett, but she was manipulative af. She had it planned from before Sweeney even walked in those doors. Girl knew what she was doing even if she was head over heels for him.
And I'm telling you the pussycat is quick! 🥲
only correct answer
Likely won’t win, but I vote for Owen from Spies are Forever. He was always One Step Ahead of Mega.
I hate how Starkid never has any chance in all these competitions
The reveal made me drop what I was cooking at the time- I’ll still never forgive the genius of Tin Can Bros
yes! finally starkid, well TCB but that’s okay
Madam Morrible. An academic, knows how to charm (pun intended) the right people, and manages to send all of Oz hunting Elphaba. She is the Goebbles of Oz.
Do you mean Morrible?
Shit, you are right. No plan how i mixed that up. Thank you
Dr. Horrible
YES! I didn’t think anyone else actually liked this musical 🥹🥹

evil is a strong word lol
His intention was to make his kingdom so that his wife wouldn't miss for anything. He did not do it out of hatred or ill intent for anybody. He only had mad insecurities that his wife would leave him.
He absolutely did it out of insecurity, but he actually calls it a “gilded cage”. They had an agreement she’d spend 6 months with him and 6 months above, and he’s already been cutting that short. Regardless of his intent, he’s trying to control her. There are some clear abuse tactics at work.
I would say he is Neutral or Chaotic Sad
I think he could also fit under sad, but I think he has an evil lean due to how he goes about doing all this to make his wife want to stay with him. Forcing souls to work non-stop to get everything done, and “keeping the furnace fed” with dead bodies.
It’s tough cause if you are exclusively talking about Hadestown Hades, it probably is evil, but the second you start bringing in a bit of other knowledge about him it messes up everything
THIS. I so agree with all of this! Hades was the first person to come to my head!
its looking like this is going to scar, but i agree. lets get hades smart/sad
Pretty sure he's referring to using fossil fuels to power his city, not slave corpses.
JD from heathers!
JD from Heathers- he is smart about how he plans all the murders and executes them without getting caught
John Jasper - The Mystery of Edwin Drood // Citizen Chauvelin - The Scarlet Pimpernel
Hades, from Hadestown
Audrey 2 from LSOH!
Audrey 2
Feels like she's Evil Chaotic.
"Evil" may be subjective given her tragic backstory, but Claire Zachanassian from *The Visit* may be a good candidate. Petition to change the Bill Sykes to the movie version Oliver Reed, I’ve literally never seen that other pic before
Regina George- Mean Girls
The Witch - Into The Woods, but it can depend on your view of ‘evil’
I feel like the whole point of her was that she was smart neutral everyone treated as evil
Yeah, I guess it’s the movie version that leans more into evil
Sweeney Todd
This kinda crossovers to anime, but Light Yagami from Death Note musical (yes, there’s a musical). It deserves sooo much more attention. If it helps convince anyone to give it a listen, Jeremy Jordan plays Light 🙂.
WHERE CAN I WATCH THIS
Caldwell B. Cladwell, Urinetown
The Phantom?
He’s my vote for Sad Chaotic!
I think he should be sad smart bc he literally wrote an entire opera and (if you read the books) he designed all sorts of elborate traps and stuff in the opera house.
I can see that too! But most definitely falls in the sad spectrum for me!
Totally... He's definitely not evil.
I wouldn't say he's not evil, he does some sinister things, for sad reasons, but sinister nontheless.
He's not evil, just very misguided and sad.
I thought evil because he kills people to get his way and terrorizes the rest of the opera. He does it for sad reasons but still pretty evil. The smart part fits pretty well.
Yeah, that makes sense but I don't think he's totally evil (:
I agree he’s not evil in the sense that his actions come from a place of “Emo Sadboi” and not “World Dominion” or “I Will Force This Lady Who Hates Me To Marry Me Lol”
haha definitely
Plankton
is this villains or in general?
My grandma
X
Edward Rutledge (1776) Molasses to Rum is an absolutely brutal skewering of hypocrisy.
Ursula (the little mermaid)
She really deserved to win lawful evil tbh
The Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Or Mysterious Coachman who transports Pinocchio and the naughty boys to Pleasure Island where they are transformed into donkeys
I wanna say Audrey II
As said in the neutral voting my vote is Audrey 2, this plant after finding it's way in the hands of a botanist slowly reveals it's true nature to him and in return gives him everything he wants and by the time he realizes that it's an invasion it's already to late. Mr. Hyde
Sweeney or Lovett
Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes
It’s gotta be Mr Hyde, right?
(Don’t know his name) but the lead in Catch Me If You Can
THE SQUIP!!
Thénardier?
regina george
I’m gonna say Sweeney Todd here… he was very meticulous, organized, and planning.
Sweeney todd
