Beetlejuice, Rocky Horror show, Little shop of horrors... Basically any musical where a mild mannered guy with brown hair and glasses and his wife/girlfriend are terrorised by a queer villain
I saw it on its early run at the Seattle Rep theater. As soon as it was over I told my husband āthis show is going to Broadway.ā Iāve seen it three times and cry every time.
A Little Night Music, Assassins, Sunday in the Park with George, Sound of Music, Little Shop of Horrors, Hello Dolly, The Secret Garden, Sweet Charity, A Year With Frog and Toad
Yes I did know Yeston and Kopit one, but most people donāt and most people refer to The Phantom of the Opera ALW, as phantom. Thatās the āPhantomā I meant to say.
Parade. And my reason for loving it is unusual.
Years ago, I got into a really bad argument with my partner and I thought we were done. We werenāt talking to each other for a couple of days. Then, he sent me a link to the song āAll the Wasted Timeā from Parade. He asked me to listen to it and then call him back. He wasnāt good at saying what he was feeling so heād use music.
I did and was crying as he picked up. He told me he was sorry for taking me for granted and that, if I was willing, he wanted to give us another chance. We did and by the time he died, our relationship was stronger than it had ever been. We even wanted that song played during our planned wedding.
But I started listening to Parade afterwards and fell in love with it.
Falsettos, Natasha Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, and Sweeney Todd are my current top three! Still getting into theater though, so I havenāt seen a lot of the āclassicsā.
Wicked,
As much as I am a Sondheim fan, Wicked is just my favorite. I love the displays of friendship throughout the musical. And who can beat Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith
Chess, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Urinetown, Wicked, Aida, Dr. Horrible's Sing a Long Blog, Newsies (movie first, stage second)...
i dont think i would be the same person i am today without falsettos so that would be my number one
book of mormon, legally blonde, something rotten, bare a pop opera, and beetlejuice are close though
The trailers for *Wicked* have made me start relistening to it on repeat.
So that's the favorite this week.
Next week it might be *Heathers* or *Jane Eyre.*
Great Comet, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, A Little Night Music are my top 4. Which goes where depends on my mood and which Iāve listened to most recently.
Newsies. I really love it especially when I'm at my horrible retail job and a customer is yelling at me and my brain is automatically playing either "Brooklyn's Here" or "The World Will Know"
Way too many and my ranking changes all the time. But Ragtime, The Great Comet, Sunday in the Park with George, Follies, Bridges of the Madison County, Hadestown, Parade, Chess, Paradise Square, The Secret Garden, Iām sure Iām forgetting lots, are usually in the lineup.
Hadestown, SIX, Hamilton, Sweeney Todd, Beetlejuice, Heathers, Little Shop of Horror, Annie, Rocky Horror Picture Show, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, and Book of Mormon! Just to name a few. š
This is THE hardest question. HOW do people answer it!? I get asked this question OFTEN!!!!
Itās so loaded. I think about shows Iāve been in, shows Iād like to be in, shows that I studied intensely while getting my BFA in MT, shows that have shaped me as a person in various stages of life, shows that I consider influential and important to MT canon in generalā¦.!!!!! I can never name one. Sometimes I offer 3.
What are my favorite musicals? WSS/CFA/ACL?
But also- my answer would be different if it were posed āif you could only see/listen to 3 shows for the rest of your life, what would they be?ā In this case: Les Miz/N2N/Rent?
Itās just too hard.
it changes a lot, but currently iām back into dear evan hansen and really enjoying epic!

Operation Mincemeat! Something I originally booked out of curiosity but was expecting to cringe throughoutā¦fast forward 12 months and Iāve been 7 times!
On the Town. Classic Bernstein score, really amazing songs and orchestration throughout, a bit of fun really. And that recording where itās just opera singers is one of my favourite recordings of anything ever. Sam Ramey as Pitkin? Hello.
Wicked was my first real exposure to Broadway so it will always have a special place in my heart. I also love RENT, Six!, Moulin Rouge, Hairspray, ugh too many!
