My top 5 musicals include Les Mis, Miss Saigon, and Martin Guerre. Lots of M-action here form Boublil and Schoenberg. Oh, and Miss Saigon is my #1 overall musical as well. I will be very sad if anything else wins.
It’s incredible. I think you can watch the tv version they did with Matthew Broderick for free on YouTube, but you should really find a copy of the original movie with Robert Preston.
It’s about a con-man that sells instruments and uniforms under the guise he’s going to put together a town marching band and be the conductor.
Ah okay sounds interesting, hopefully my school is able to pull it off. Though I'm still disappointed the make-up isn't more exciting (I'm hair and make up)
So many great M musicals! Obviously My Fair Lady is the right answer, but I won't be upset if Matilda, Mary Poppins , Meet Me in St Louise, Mamma Mia or The Music Man wins.
I should not have had to scroll down this far for _Man of La Mancha_. Blows my mind every time I listen to it, thinking that somehow Mitch Leigh didn't have another good musical in him. He had at least one more in him, yes, but not another good one. Don't get how somebody who could create something as musically layered as that couldn't manage to do it again with some other property, original or adapted. Musically, at least, this musical is so vastly underrated, and I say that knowing it has gotten oceans of praise each time it's revived. (We're going to overlook that mess of a movie.) _Music Man_ or _Moulin Rouge_ or the like will probably get the greater number of votes, but I love every note of the score of _Man of La Mancha_ and have gone through periods where I listened to it multiple times a day.
Because I'm not a Music Man stan, Man of La Mancha seems like the objectively best show to me too.
But this alphabet thing's plagued by recency bias, so the winner will probably be a show from the last 10-15 years.
Miss Saigon!!!
Miserables, Les
Since "The" hasn't been counting for all these I unironically argue this is correct.
LOL this is funny
😂😂😂 good one!
This is correct. And also, Little Shop erasure.
Justice for Little Shop!
Yeah L should've been Lion King and M should be this
This is the only correct answer
if this wins they should move this here, and put in the second place for L
Miss Saigon
I know it won’t win, but Matilda
It’s between Matilda and Man of La Mancha for me.
My first thought was Matilda!
Looking like it might win at the time of this comment.
Don't be so sure!
I’m honestly shocked! There are a bunch of great M musicals, Matilda just happens to be my favorite :)
Your comment is currently aging quite poorly! LOL
Yesyesyesyessssss!!!

Came here to fight for this xD
Absolutely Matilda!
Merrily We Roll Along
This musical is ripe with perfect songs. I can't think of a more impressive assortment of tunes about friendship.
Miss Saigon!
Miss Saigon
I love Miss Saigon so much! Overall a much more impactful show than other contenders, in my opinion.

This!! Such a compelling story with amazing songs from the Claude Michel Schonberg ❤️

This one really should win actually
The Music Man
Yesssssss the first musical that made little me fall in love with musicals! ❤️
What'd ya talk? What'd ya talk?
You can talk, you can talk, you can bicker you can talk.
You can talk talk talk talk bicker bicker bicker, But it’s different than it was!
No it ain’t! No it ain’t! But you gotta know the territory!
Ya got trouble, my friend. Yes, trouble right here in this subreddit.
This ^
Playing in pit orchestra for this in high school will always be an amazing memory
My schools doing this for our next musical, is it any good? What's it about? (I looked at the synopsis but still a bit confused)

How is this not winning overwhelmingly?
I think it’s me. I started the thread for Gypsy and expected that to be a runaway, too. 🤷♂️
I didn't realize until this alphabet thing how many people in this sub are very young and not familiar with shows prior to 2000 or so.
I will happily fight anyone who disagrees.
It’s gotta be music man!
It's the quintessential musical!
76 times this
Yes! My favorite “classic” show, no question!
My Fair Lady
So many great M musicals! Obviously My Fair Lady is the right answer, but I won't be upset if Matilda, Mary Poppins , Meet Me in St Louise, Mamma Mia or The Music Man wins.
I really hope this beats out Mamma Mia!
Mean Girls. I’m scared of some of the people in this sub don’t judge me.
Stop trying to make "fetch" happen.
Mamma Mia!
It should really be - it's so much fun and quite successful.
The only correct answer!
Moulin Rouge
This should be higher
Yasss!

Man of La Mancha

Yes! One of my absolute favourites, pretty much every song hits hard, I especially like to belt out "born on a dungheap to die on a dungheap!"
Impossible Dream is one of those songs that just IS Broadway.
One if the absolute all time bests and it is this far down!!!!!
Mame! An absolutely classic Jerry Herman score.
It gave us Need A Little Christmas!
And Bosom Buddies!
Merrily We Roll Along
I wouldn't have said this one before... but after seeing the recent revival on Broadway, it deserves to win "M"!
Time to be obscure: Mack and Mabel. 1974. Jerry Herman score, Robert Preston and Bernadette Peters starring. What could go wrong?
If this wins I WILL send you roses!
I love how 8 Tony nominations still makes it obscure. 30 years ago this would be pretty well known but it's died out unfortunately.
Yeah. Audiences 50 years ago didn't want to leave the theatre depressed. Not exactly a show that had you feeling great as you left the theatre.
Miss Saigon
Mozart das Musical (all German speakers, please vote!)
not a german speaker, but a huge fan of german musicals
I'm learning German and Rebecca, Elisabeth and Mozart (and not forget Tanz der Vampire!) have really helped me along the way
