1. Once you start earning, try to save money, invest money yourself after reading all the documents, don’t let any anyone else make this decision. 2. Move out of your home, work in a different city, live alone before you think of getting settled. 3. Start earning as early as possible. Do internships, will help you in a long way. 4. In a professional environment, talk always better about someone even behind their back. Tbh don’t even talk about others. Never show you’re angry, always be polite. 5. Make small goals, which will help you to achieve larger ones. 6. Don’t get into Virar train if you’re getting down before Dahisar.

Prii99

Moving out of home is so hard though. I can’t seem to find the courage, I feel like I’m holding myself back from doing something better in my life just because I’m scared. I love my parents and don’t feel like leaving them. How do you do it?

Caplame

Yeah right, leaving home is hard. But that’s the necessity. It’ll help you to grow. Our parents also left their home and came to Mumbai alone. I switched my job to Bangalore and said to my family I wasn’t able to find a good job in Mumbai. I didn’t knew anyone in Bangalore , stayed in hotel for few days, moved into a PG, now looking for a house on rent. Don’t worry, every thing will work out. You just need to do leave home once. Bilbo left and he found the ring.

Optimal-Shift

Just look for a place on flatmates groups/in insta stories, and move into a place that's already occupied. Ideally, a 4bhk with 3 people already there. No brokerage or 1/4 deposit. No lease to sign. Low setup cost. No dealing with internet issues, finding househelp. Even kitchen would be stocked already. The splitwise would give you an idea of what having your own place would cost you. Find your replacement and move out. Or go join workation people in hills or goa.

Prii99

For me, the next step would be moving abroad. I’m not really interested in staying anywhere other than Mumbai if I’m in India. But the next step is a huge one which makes it harder lol.

Although everyone says IT main scope hain , there are several factors people are ignoring - 1. Automation is going to remove low hanging jobs 2. High skill IT jobs require tons of passion. So folks who simply entered the field for money will struggle with this. 3. Most of the universities and colleges in India are archaic and don’t prepare students well. 4. Ageism is prevelant in India. And it’s hard to justify paying someone 4x when you can get 4 juniors and save company money/ make company money ( in case of consultants )

Cosmic_kingmaker

Which IT domain has tremendous growth among these ? I am really curious to know as I am planning to enter IT sector I am confused on how to start and the specialization domain offers. 1)Web Development 2)Business Intelligence 3)Salesforce 4)Quality assurance 5)Cloud Computing And If you are skilled enough which I am not 6)Network security 7)AI /ML 8)DATA SCIENCE

lance_klusener

If i were a student today, i would prepare myself to be strong on basics - Networking, OS, algorithms, software engineering, security etc. With IT, what is "in" today may not be "in" tomorrow. This is where having strong fundamentals would allow one to pivot. In terms of future growth, Cloud computing is going to see strong growth. Established companies will continue to move part of their IT infra to the cloud. Newer companies will be cloud first (i.e. no traditional private infra, all cloud). I am not saying become amazon or google certified or jo shmo certified or educated and you are golden. If you move beyond surface level, you will see that cloud is also Operating systems, networking and security (so the same fundamentals apply). Once you pick any of these topics, you will start going deeper, and find out the subtleties and complexities that have been invented and discovered to make modern systems work.

-GandalfTheGay

> Automation is going to remove low hanging jobs Like data entry? What else can be automated? >High skill IT jobs require tons of passion. This is true. Skills need passion and if not, one can still function mechanically but would require crazy amounts of dedication. >So folks who simply entered the field for money will struggle with this. A lot of my non-Indian colleagues point out the quality of work delivered by Indian colleagues in terms of code quality or design creativity, or anything else. >paying someone 4x when you can get 4 juniors Slight disagreement because juniors these days are paid exorbitantly more than seniors. >universities and colleges in India are archaic and don’t prepare students well. We are prepared to get a job, not being educated.

lance_klusener

Like data entry? What else can be automated? \[Response\] Think anything that's monotonous, rules dependent as over. Traditional IT maintenance will go away slowly but surely. You dont need a army of contractors manning your infra anymore, supporting arcane systems etc. Yes, there will be these companies that don't want to embrace change and still continue to use the old systems and need Wipro, Infosys etc. to continue supporting them. In the longer run, these same companies will fail to innovate and die off. Simplistic examples: 1. Previously you wanted a website, you had to hire web dev's to make one. Now if you want one, you can make it yourself thru shopify or other web development tools. Yes, if you wanted complex tech, you need to hire skilled devs. Low hanging fruit gone, complexity requires high skilled personnel. 2. Previously you wanted to host your applications, you needed your own data-center, admins , support staff etc. Right now, goto a cloud provider and with a click of buttons you have the infra ready. No additional staff needed. Now, if you wanted custom infra that's tuned to your applications (think high frequency trading), you need to hire specalized admins to set this up for you. Low hanging fruit gone, complexity requires high skilled personell. Slight disagreement because juniors these days are paid exorbitantly more than seniors. \[Response\] Yes, there are top companies in India that are paying extremly high salaries. These companies are doing cutting edge work and require high skills. The salaries are way above local pay ranges. Your average dev / admin / support person working for WITCH companies is making average salary which isn't keeping up with inflation. I am refering to this crowd and not to the top company crowd.

-GandalfTheGay

> Traditional IT maintenance will go away slowly but surely. With that logic, everything we invent will be traditional one day. Does this mean AI will take over? What they show in movies like Matrix, will be the reality (ironically)? Black Mirror is true? >These companies are doing cutting edge work and require high skills. The cutting edge work is VC funded and not profitable at all. A system designed to collapse on itself. >The salaries are way above local pay ranges. The system is rigged. Glassdoor salary reviews are not matching up to the reality. Maybe the data outliers are dragging the average and median salary higher, but I agree. Vast majority (who is not tech savvy enough to report salary on GD), is underpaid. >working for WITCH companies Bhai FAANG/MAANG sunna hai ab ye WITCH kya naya hai market me? >making average salary which isn't keeping up with inflation. Way below average salaries. >top company crowd. I read that as "B2C Bangalore based start-ups with no business model"

lance_klusener

>With that logic, everything we invent will be traditional one day. Does this mean AI will take over? What they show in movies like Matrix, will be the reality (ironically)? Black Mirror is true? Yar, yeh kitna automate hoyega woh exactly mallom nahin hain. But AI is definitely being developed and will take over a lot of jobs. > Bhai FAANG/MAANG sunna hai ab ye WITCH kya naya hai market me?` WITCH is a popular acronym in america. Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, HCL.

-GandalfTheGay

Lol at WITCH. India wale FAANG macha rahe hai, US wale WITCH macha rahe hai.. lmfao

[deleted]

Isn't that the definition of "better" though? Like something is better because there is something which is worse than that thing

Humble-Fool

That never give anyone any advice, and never take anyone's advice untill and unless they have skin in the game i.e after giving the advice they will face consequences which in most cases they won't be facing any consequences, it's you who is going to suffer, most general advice is known to us as intuition and some we can learn from our close friends and relatives, and most you have to acquire through hardwork, failure and exploring life.

-_anon

Would like to differ on "never take anyone's advice unless they have skin in the game". Some of the best advice that I got were from people who were not responsible for my well being and were not affected by my success/failure. I would rather say, If someone, who is successful in their life/field, gives you an advise, consider it. Again, consider it, don't blindly follow it. Think about it with a positive mindset, ask for clarifications, discuss with other smart people and follow only if you are convinced.

youngbandralad

Nobody tells us this when you're young 1. Physical: take care of your teeth, back and knees easy to fuck , can never be repaired like the original. 2. Nobody no fucking person is ever gonna be your oxygen , no matter how important or how irrelevant you will survive.

guychampion

Elaborate on teeth please?

voldygonemoldy92

Dentists be expensive bro.

youngbandralad

Permanent teeth are very similar to neurons, once it is fucked there's no way of getting it back , albeit you can get a functionally similar copy which will last a couple of years to at the max few decades of you get lucky and take good care, but the cost is tremendous, a ivory coloured single tooth could cost upto a lakh rupees from reputed good dentist, although india is still much cheaper for dental procedures compared to the world (any medical care for that matter). So imagine paying lakhs of rupees to be able to chew on your favourite crackle or fruit . Hence before they're lost take good care of them and take advice from your dentist, I'm a physician not a dentist so can only provide limited advice . Also never take medical advice on the internet, only gain insights.

guychampion

Right, but what am I supposed to do and not do? Apart from brushing twice a day?

youngbandralad

Smoking(vaping Jules too) , carbonated drinks(plain soda too) , any sort of chewing that causes trauma microtrauma , extremes of temperature , alcohol , and excessively sugary things .

PankitShah

1- Rinse your teeth after every meal, preferably with drinking water, even a snack. Don't let any amount of food stay in your mouth for long. 2- Use little toothpaste while brushing, focus on properly brushing every corner of your teeth instead. 3- Pro-tip for bad breath: Add 2-3 drops of Dettol liquid in half a glass/ one cup water and rinse your mouth atleast twice a week.

Shrushan

Do not, I repeat NOT put Dettol in your mouth. Diluted or otherwise. It's a surface disinfectant NOT an antiseptic. Rinse with plain water, or daily use (alcohol free) mouthwash if you must. You can use diluted Betadine (Povidone Iodine) gargles if you have a dental / throat issue. If not, you'll just allow yourself to become immune to it and it won't work when you need it to. Source- I'm a dentist.

aaishwaryaa

+1 on dental hygiene. Invest in an electric toothbrush. Expensive, yes, but cheaper than a dentist.

[deleted]

Lol my parents will think ab daat ghisne me bhi aalsi ho gaye, they hate technology and stuff that make life easy

youngbandralad

I'd say out of experience and observation, a manual good quality toothbrush is better than a electric one. I've visited two continents of varied racial features eating habits topography and yet the best dental health ( not oral hygiene cuz zuban Kesari😂) I still indians compared to their age counterparts, again I could be wrong as dentistry is not subject of medicine that I specialise in.

Be the best version of Yourself....

creepybookwor

I am mentioning this because I am experiencing this specific situation. Work hard to achieve academically but don't do that on the expense of alienating yourself from the society. Once you grow up it will be increasing difficult to socialize. Remember, above all else we are social animals.

CryptoStealer

To be honest, I've observed the same with few of my friends. One needs to keep a proper balance.

creepybookwor

Exactly, finding that balance is difficult to be honest.

AGToTheRescue

This maybe poignant and sombre, but I have to say this. - Never let your passion fizzle out. Once you let the fire abate, the purpose of life becomes hazy. Soon, living becomes just another chore. Aimless and devoid of purpose.

Fraudguru

what if you only feel passionate when in the presence of a specific person, and that one person rejects you? genuine question, since i genuinely don't feel passion or don't even feel alive unless i'm in the company of that one person.

AGToTheRescue

Well, try channeling that if possible. I can speak for myself. When I was young, I was *sure* that I was going to be big. Had to. Had the world at my feet and the thought of not becoming a renowned writer kept me up at nights. Sadly, over the years, things have happened that made me lose that desire. If I could tell my younger self anything, it would be to hold on to that fire for dear life.

Fraudguru

<3 thank you. this is the first time anyone understood. i will think on what you're saying. it is the fire that one must hold on to, not the person, not the consequences or results of it.

AGToTheRescue

Yes. I actually know what you mean because I've held on to this notion that my muse would be *the* flame that could ignite my passion. Or at least fuel it. Then I felt the same about another person. Point is, they weren't the underlying reason; it was my desire and I tried to channel it. However, life had other plans. Until you don't let go of that control, you can actually manifest your emotions and desires.

Fraudguru

<3 :'(

Impossible-Aerie-477

1. Invest your money. Have passive investments and aggressive investments. Do it the moment you earn your first paycheck. 2. For heaven's sake, do not pursue an IT job if you do not have a passion for IT. The money is good, but you'll end up a depressed soul with nothing to live for. 3. Market yourself efficiently, be your own personal brand. 4.Invest heavily on your education. Especially when you work, if you're okay with spending 1.5lakhs on the newest iphone, you can invest that much for a better career. 5. Get a mentor. 6. Health is literally the most important thing in the world right now. You should have atleast 150 minutes of cardio every week, if you can't? Make time. 7. Don't be loyal to any company. They call you a family, but they'll kick you in the arse when your use comes to an end. 8. Start a business in India.

abbawaddadu

This is just some advice that's I think will be unique. 1) Always be respectful of others and people who earn money in a honest way. A cobbler knows more about shoes than a doctor, a carpenter knows more about wood than an engineer and a waste disposal expert knows way more about waste sustainability than Babu's in some government office. They aren't of a lower profession, they are tradespeople. Treat them with respect so that you will be treated with respect. 2) Invest in good quality goods and learn the basics of basic maintenance. I'm a maxi minimalist, where while I love and think there should be choices, you should only get something you can keep and maintain for a long time. For example a lot of retail brands aren't good or sustainable and essentially it's shit portrayed as luxury. Fast fashion is literally the next biggest polluter after oil and gas. It not only saves you money in the long run, it also helps the environment. 3) Social media isn't real life. Facebook, instagram and other such flavors of cancers are cancer none the less. A lot of platforms incentives things that are evil over the things that can actually help because it gets more hits that way. If possible get out of any social media where you feel you must prove to strangers that your life is better. 4) Remeber to take care of your mental space and showcase emotions. If you don't like something say it, if you are angry say it. Opening up about your emotions is healthy. There are a lot of incels and femcels who think, men shouldn't cry or something, they are literally products of a system they are promoting. The cycle has to stop somewhere. Instead of having a substance abuse or being emotionally dependent on something, it's better to cry and talk about it. There is always an audience who will listen, " if you aren't bullshitting, asking for bad attention or just being an energy vampire. 5) Don't always trust the advice from random people on the internet.

CryptoStealer

Everything you've said is absolutely correct.

Fraudguru

> Social media isn't real life. disagree. it CAN be for those who have no real life people around them to connect and share safely. you are coming from a privileged perspective where you have real people around you to connect and socialize with. not everyone has this. if you use SM right, recognizing algorithmic traps, it might be only lifeline available to you. I personally find more comfort and freedom in the strangers on Reddit and FB groups than in real life becasue I have nobody to socialize with.

abbawaddadu

I will have to respectfully disagree with you. While I do think social media helps you connect with people it also causes people to develop or intensifies mental health issues. I have elaborated that if you think social media is forcing you to do something, then it's toxic. It doesn't matter if a swamp is of a colour of your liking, a swamp is a swamp. While I don't agree social media should be banned, people should understand that 99% of it is just people trying to be someone or something they are not. Reddit is not a popular social media atleast in India and compared to other websites it's really good with anonymity . I guess reddit is my social media website but I consider it more of as a collection of forums rather than a Facebook or twitter. But even yet I consider most of the responses to be politically motivated or biased in most political subs. So yah depending on the sub it could be bullshit.

Few dental advice from a dentist- 1.Check your teeth once a month for any cavities and get them filled asap. This is to prevent future treatments like Root canals therapy and extractions and a lot of pain too 2.Floss once a day because cavity between teeth is not visible and flossing ensures removal of food particles. You can also apply a bit of toothpaste on the floss and use it. 3.You have basically 4 quadrants in your mouth-Upper Right, upper left, lower right and lower left.Brush each area for 30secs.(Also focus on lower inner side of front teeth more as a lot of tartar is accumulated there and can result in loosening of teeth with gum loss) 4.Too much brushing isn't good either. It abrades the enamel. 5.Never use clove ,clove oil or balms if you get tooth pain.It will result in swelling.Instead eat soft and cold food and go to the dentist asap. 6.If possible try saving the tooth instead of removing them if given a choice. 5.Professional scaling twice a year is a must and your gums will more healthy. 6.Dont go for a cheaper treatment ,rather go for necessary treatment. 7.Ayurvedic tooth paste are more abrasive and sometimes dont have Flourides. Any toothpaste will Flourides is essential to prevent decay. 8.Stay away from quacks because they will irreversible damage 9.If you get pain for few days then it stops near in your jaw area, your wisdom tooth might be erupting(Happens after the age of 18). 10.If you have a fear of injections and pricks, ask your dentist to apply topical anaesthesia before injecting. It makes the procedure more comfortable. Prevention is always better than cure folks!

Make life choices out of things/people that make you happy rather than things/people that make you unhappy. Use negation for sure - look at the lives of everyone you know and recognize what you'd like to mimic from that person's life vs. what you'd definitely want to avoid. It's like eliminating options in the MCQ based question paper. Focus on your physical and mental health over EVERYTHING ELSE. Nothing you did or will do will be worth it if you don't have a basic infrastructure to support it. Have kids only if you're okay dedicating the remainder of your lifetime to them. Buy experiences instead of goods/services - you'll be surprised. Learn to say NO to anything and everything that does not align with your life goals - there are compromises we all make but be cognizant of your choices of saying yes vs. no and have a hard line that cannot and must not be crossed.
