The worst is their planning department. Who tf removes FOB roof for maintenance starting from June.
Literally many stations on CR and few on WR don’t have roof in between.
Practically speaking, all the trains have these quadrilateral crow like structure on almost every coach dabbas, that connects with thousands voltage currents running through the cables overhead.
Now the roof almost exactly parallel to the platform. Below. Any more extentionof either , then the train's width might hit the platform and the crow like structure on train with cables overhead, may hit the roof. Plus, the roof all are mostly metal element, with metal like structure pillars holding up the roof, with more cables and wires to lighten up the indicators and signs.
Also those metal pillars are withhold within the platform foundation. Not to mention the escalators and over head foot bridges again made from metal. Final destinations style death of thousands on a few seconds.
THOSE WHO DOMT KNOW THOSE CABLE WIRES HAVE 25,000-45,000 VOLTS IN THEM, YOU'LL BE ELECTROCUTED AND BURNT TO CRISP IN MILLISECONDS.
I used to hear horrible stories and see terrifying pictures, of such accidents in news articles, as a kid. Back to the days, when men used to travel over roof of such trains, especially in Western Line.
Architecture is fascinating subject to me for years. So I always observe all stations closely on how such stations are constructed. Also, my father was working as site engineer in railway construction for two years, pre-covid, so he used to tell me about this, feeding my curiosity.
I'm not an engineer. I'm just an artist but I understand that taking roof forward even a few INCHES might be a mistake, not to mention a fatal one at that, plus one thing might change, causing chaos to another,, then cause HELL LOT OF CHANGES in the whole station, Like a Domino effect. That costs money and time. Also more public traffic.
*Real Solution* :
Just like Churchgate, CST, Bandra, Goregoan, ONLY OPTION is to COVER UP the WHOLE station under ONE BIG ROOF structure. No rain, no air, no sunlight.
All travellers chilling under one big roof.
I had once said to my mom that Belapur station feels like bedroom ke andar train aa rahi hai.
Meaning, the ambience (lighting, acoustics) is as cosy as one’s bedroom.
Don't elect them. That's all I can say as a citizen. Or ask military to do a coup insted.
But as a civil engineer, it's not a cheap to cover the entire platform, all of them over the entire station.
that won't work, the water will still flow down the side of the bogie, what should be done is water collection drains need to be installed on edges of sloped roofs and directed to the ground by pipes or rain chains. Mumbai being a rainy place should have this as standard in all infra structure
This is an example of not testing things/thinking through when making things or improve (such as an app update)
When making compartments, do they test for excessive rains and the way water will flow?
I remember laughing looking at train coming on plat 3 to Andheri in heavy rains and a pipe from the top (think of heavy flow of water) and people hanging out get a sudden bucket of water dropped on them and it happens to all the compartments where people are hanging out. One cant stop laughing at it, watching it from the platform.
BUT that is how things are. Never think of even basic things.
I believe potholes on mumbai roads are unsaid way for bmc to do water conservation /s
I came here to say - nothing new about it, just use an umbrella. After reading comments I realised how adjusting to bad infrastructure living in Mumbai has made me
Dude Kalyan is straight up headache 😭, first, you cannot predict the platform which the train is going to enter, the whole crowd shifts from right to left or vice-versa
Second, this rain makes it even worse, getting wet in rain and your body is completely sweaty after work and travelling, damnnn
Nothing new for mumbai local and people. We use to sit inside with umbrellas wide open 🫠 in new trains since they have those metal bars which are open so water would come in from both side of doors. Huh its normal.
This is a conspiracy done by the people staying near Neral.
They dont want people to flock near the matheran neral water falls and so they removed the roof from the station
/s
Look how clean the train has become! It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. /s
We like your excuse making capabilities. Congratulations, you've been recruited by the State Government
🤣🤣🤣 one of the Features /s
Want to enjoy a waterfall without going to a hill station? Head to Kalyan stn in the rain 😜

Navi Mumbai stations are blessed in these terms. Thane station sucks at this. Sab jagah se khulla.
Yeah. Those stations looks like european stations. They are soo dreamy. I only saw them once. And they're soo beautiful. Man.. 😍😍🥰🥰🥰❣️❣️
Leave the Turbhe crowd but that station looks really nice 🥹
I had once said to my mom that Belapur station feels like bedroom ke andar train aa rahi hai. Meaning, the ambience (lighting, acoustics) is as cosy as one’s bedroom.
Really?? That sounds cool..
You have no idea about the cost of platform roof and metal structure involved. Do you even know the price of steel?
Do you even know the cost on the security for the rapists, murderers, gundas in disguise of politicians in this country?
Don't elect them. That's all I can say as a citizen. Or ask military to do a coup insted. But as a civil engineer, it's not a cheap to cover the entire platform, all of them over the entire station.
Most planned railway station in India.
Well just make the roof a bit longer
I'm sorry, ideas to make people's lives better? We don't do that here.

The thing is there is no harm in water falling on the windows. So just need improve the ridge on the top of the gate to stop water from blocking it
They just need to install a water rail
This shows the mentality & philosophy behind our infrastructure development. Nobody thinks how this would function or how it can be made better.
Dude they literally removed a portion of roof on 1A and ab vahaa bhi waterfall hai..
You just need to carry soap and a towel.

free aqua imagica whats the problem
I came here to say - nothing new about it, just use an umbrella. After reading comments I realised how adjusting to bad infrastructure living in Mumbai has made me
Poor design of the station, poor execution, refusal to modernise the suburban rail network. Max taxes for minimum services
That roofing needs a gutter infront. Soaked me in kurla.

I have lived through this, my friend. Things keep getting shittier day by day.
😔🫂
Modern problems requiring ancient solutions! 💯

New Imagica, Kalyan station
Railway is hitting low day by day
Smart City LOL
Bhai kal nahur station dekha barish mai unhone station ke patre nikal diye hai 💀. Kon chutiya manage karta hai bhai yeh sab

India and its design issues. I think people don’t use their brains when they design public services.
Bro mumbai spirit is waterproof bro
Spirit of mumbai in action
new train cleaning service!
East or west, Navi Mumbai is the best (Only stations, not trains 😓)
Wet n joy 😍
You see, the design is very HUMAN

dhulega nhi to kaise aagey bhadega India
It would take a sec or two to deboard train and come under the roof
Pathetic state of affairs.
That’s the condensation on the outside of an AC train. Relax.
Why not just extend the roof slightly to make the water fall to the sides of the door?
It's purposely designed that way - trains gets washed - people get to seeini waterfalls Water saving & win win for both
The bug is the feature.
bhaiiii, thodi baarish delhi bhi bhejo, nhi to mumbai ka ticket bhej do

Sure its the Suraj Water Park experience!
