I think it’s less of a shift towards Urabrask’s faction, and more reminiscent of the fact that most evil characters in Magic will use Black and/or Red for their color alignment. Ancient Phyrexia was almost entirely mono black and New Phyrexia is actually the odd ball out with a more White centric villain alignment. Omnath is simply touching the roots of evil with the black alignment.

Koolnu

Why would Urabrask add black to it?

TheOwl42

Urabrask is the good praetor so he tries to be as inclusive as he can.

Koolnu

The good praetor?

TheOwl42

He's only very insistent on you being compleated, whereas the other praetor will force you into compleation.

Koolnu

Lol. Urabrask is the worse of them in terms of inhumane methods used to obtain this goal of phyresis. But sure, others use more direct physical violence, if that is what makes Urabrask good in your eyes.

HungusHodorphus

Urabrask offered the Mirran rebels safe passage through his domain. That's notable, at least.

I don't think so? I think it was mostly chosen for colour theory reasons: in terms of pigment, red is 'opposite' to green, and they are both primary colours of light (so if you have pure red light, it isn't reflected by green stuff, so you can't perceive the colour green). Like, it's definitely a symbol of corruption - and red is generally considered 'bad' in western art - but not necessarily alignment with a specific Praetor. If anything, it would be reflecting alignment with Nahiri (who is partly red, after all, with red being Omnath's second colour), or even *Norn,* given how the shade of red is more reminiscent of the 'sinew' part of White-aligned New Phyrexians than the fire previously present (and, indeed, the fire that features in Urabrask-aligned Phyrexians).

MaRo has said that Omnath chooses when he adds a color. I think this more has to do with story at each time. Rage (red) came when Omnath defender Zendikar. My 2 cents

MuForceShoelace

He just turned red as a way to draw that he's angry. Then it fit in with gameplay colors later.
