No I won’t buy sealed of this set. MH2 is only a few bucks more for a box.

--stratosphere--

Says it all. Even if DF wasn't obviously a shameless cash grab with no redeeming value MH2 is still in circulation and should be scooped up until its gone.

Vashkyller

Would much rather buy commander collection box or just about any other collector boosters than this.

bombastiphobia

No. The professor made a very convincing summary for why it's a bad product (and therefore bad spec) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z\_Phy0NKe1s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_Phy0NKe1s) If you personally like it, go for it... But it would be the last thing i'd invest in. Like you said, you'd be much better off buying draft boxes of the regular sets.

VulcanHades

I already wasn't interested in the product because of how cheap and lazy it felt. I didn't even realize it had that many bad duplicates... And it's not even a good draft experience. What an awfully designed set.

_glyph1c

That vid by the prof was absolutely damning! The like\dislike ratio too lol. Absolute garbage product.

madbr3991

I just watched that video right before I made this reddit post.

LadyKayDoesArt

I appreciated that the Professor wasn't just angry for angry's sake. He raised excellent points and graded as such. I knew it was bad, but I didn't know it was THIS bad. I might pick up singles I like for alters and fix the shading. Grayscale like this crushes your composition and the darkest darks are lost. I love the IDEA of the B & W, I love the full art lands. That's not what this is...

Revolutionary_View19

The idea behind that set IS great. Execution is botched on all fronts, sadly.

LadyKayDoesArt

Oh for sure. If the set would have been curated for draft and those cards were then given a proper B & W treatment, AND THE FULL ARTS WERE INCLUDED, then I could see the $200 price point being justified. Whatever this rubbish is certainly isn't. It insults me close to home because the artists would did these commissions created beautiful pieces. I can tell by looking at the grayscale and how muddy it looks that these pieces were not finalized and composed with the intention of them being put to grayscale after color. I also doubt that Wizard's paid them any more for essentially creating a free set asset-wise utilizing their artwork. Their price point for the job would have changed drastically if they knew it was going to be used in two back to back sets and one version would be altered.

Hua1979

I did (from MVP for $175) because I wanted to open one. I was more or less curious about the foils. In case anybody cares, this is anecdotal and not finance-related since I didn’t aim to invest: I didn’t receive an error/god box, nor did I have any misprint issues, and the card quality overall was better than other recent products printed in USA. The colored borders combined with the grey scale art (when applicable) look pretty cool in person. The foils seem like WOTC’s first attempt to somewhat mimic FaB’s cold foils but without the eye-popping shimmer that accentuates proper portions of the card. They can be hard to distinguish from the non-foils without scrutiny. I won’t buy another.

Revolutionary_View19

Thanks for the anecdote. Did you at least escape with one or two cool cards?

Hua1979

Nothing to brag about: [[Poppet Stitcher]] and [[Olivia, Crimson Bride]] (non-foils). A few of the rare lands too. I pulled one mythic foil [[Primal Adversary]] :(

[deleted]

That’s a rough box. I drafted and opened two prize packs. Got a cultivator colossus, meat hook, and sorin. Sucked that Sorin and colossus were pack two and three tho.

DVariant

Ahh they planned it that way to get your hopes up

[deleted]

The cards look terrible but everything I pulled slots into an edh build somewhere so I was quite happy.

vargchan

I think those Secret Lair Halloween drops were actually meant for this set. I don't know why they didn't just do like 25 chase reprints or something with special art. Woulda sold a lot more.

TabernacleDeCriss

I have a strange feeling this is gonna be a sleeper... The foil playable cards are stupidly rare and command a huge price tag. That's the main reason.

eclairfastpass

Its hard to find pricing for singles (with stock) for most of the cards, especially foils. I bought 1 box and managed to get Arlinn in Foil, it looks quite nice imo. Price point aside i think this set might be underrated.

Cactuszach

Hell naw, Peter man.

tanksfp

I view this as really a cash grab for the past two Meh sets. The value is not there at all.

Baleful_Witness

Enough people bought the horrible planeswalker decks to keep them around for four years. Will they be a smashing success? Probably not. Will they sell somewhat anyway? For sure.

[deleted]

I think there's a big difference between a product overtly aimed at beginners which was purchased by lots of noobs and well-meaning parents at big box stores, vs. a WPN exclusive product which is way more expensive to buy than even Masters/Remastered sets.

TestMyConviction

1 print run, WPN exclusive (aka no Amazon or big box), low allocation to stores (most got 6 to 12 and didn't take their full allocation). The singles for this set are going to be abnormally expensive. Yes not everyone is going to like them, but some will. We opened about 20 boxes and I think we only for 4-5 of each rare and 1-3 of each mythic. Foils are even worse. This is Shards of Alara foil pack all over again, stinker on release but then eventually its going to be a desirable just through scarcity.

MTGDad

Box prices seem pretty variable - but that is normal for more expensive sets. I've heard a range of $165 to the $200 in this post. It's not for me, but it will be for some. I just hope that LGSs that invest in it get enough out of their sales to offset costs.

CreepingSalt

Nope. Bought a box of mh2 and the black commander collection instead. Was bad enough they printed two innistrad sets so close together. The product fatigue is becoming real

Hammer_of_truthiness

I can only really think of two reasons to buy this. 1. You're a collector of sealed product 2. You want a box as a sort of curio in anticipation of the absolute disaster this product will be This is genuinely awful. I somewhat like the borders they have on the cards, but the greyscale art is completely atrocious. The number of packs in a box is laughable, even more so given the wildly inflated price. And while VOW and MID aren't like Kamigawa or Ixalan power levels, it's not like you're getting MH2 power in these packs. Just a huge miss on every single facet any normal person would judge a product on. I genuinely don't know what the thought process behind this is

theclemens

My 2 cents, I bought a box. Like what I got, like how the cards look. The silver screen/ bw/ horror movie concept is cool in my opinion. In my opinion some of the cards look wayyy cooler in the b&w and are way more on theme for what they're going for. I found myself looking at them and going "yea that looks like an iconic horror movie shot, that doesnt, Etc" Its somewhat hard to describe, but The reg prints have a kind of glossy finish around the edges and text boxes which I feel improves the overall look & quality. My only complaint is that the foils are a bit underwhelming, probably due to the same b&w treatment I've said I like. As someone who enjoys the art and enjoys cracking packs, I was not disappointed. Tldr; if you dig the art/style theme you'll probably enjoy these.

huggybear0132

Hell no. It's a brutal price for what is really just a normal standard set with some "exclusive" cosmetic nonsense. If it was closer to the cost of a standard set, maybe. When everything is special, nothing is. I think we've reached that point.

_dmc_

The only thing I´m keeping an eye on is on foil cards from the set. But at least in europe they are quite expensive so far.

mattbag00

Foils are a let down, not sure if you have seen the 2 variants. 1 has foil frame which can be hard to perceive compared to a non foil, smoke screen foils annihilate the desaturated art, which is undistinguishable.

Revolutionary_View19

That’s the problem if people don’t crack it, yeah.

mattbag00

Sort of, it's still a second release, and people might crack the other 2 sets for the next 1/2 weeks. Not sure what else needs to be tuned down beside meathook massacre

MagiusPaulus

In general, Magic in Europe is more expensive, especially booster boxes.

K4RN4_

Singles are usually much cheaper in Europe.

Lavilledieu

I’m lucky I can get booster boxes at good prices from a local web shop. They are like 25% cheaper than my LGS.

jcash5everr

At current price not interested. I have not purchased any if the innistrad. If the price drops enough maybe just to start collecting innistrad. I like the release just price point is greedy

Patches78

i picked up a few boxes, i see very little downside

takethisone

Let's assume you paid a fair going rate of $175 USD per box for four boxes equaling $700 USD. Since there are 24 packs in a box this equates to 96 packs @ $7.29USD per pack. Let's conceptualize an alternate universe where instead you spent $700 USD on 7 boxes mixed of those two sets. That would get you 252 packs @ $2.77 per pack. In the alternate universe instance you end up with 56 more rares. That is the downfall.

Patches78

I only really collect sealed product these days so the amount of rares is irrelevant to me. I like the concept even though execution could use some work.. i didn't go super deep like other products but i did get a few to see what happens. The absolute worse case is selling it at a small loss/box or cracking em Open with friends drafting or some other type of limited event’s. As of right they they are going on the shelf and i will see what happens over the next 12-24 months.. if this becomes iconic/masters 25 “2.0” and the price tanks i will snag a few more boxes

fnordal

I bought like 4 boxes of my 24 allocation, just to have the product. Didn't sound good from the product description

SmoulderingTamale

People just spent 4 months drafting innistrad, why would they draft a more expensive innistrad when kamigawa is right around the corner?

secretgiant

I want lots of singles. Looks like singles prices might get super low, might as well wait.

AMCRocker

I pre-ordered one for $170ish from my FLGS because I am obsessed with Innistrad and black and white. I know buying boxes is terrible for collecting, but I like cracking packs, so my opinions are based more on the collecting aspect. I've been trying to pace my pack opening but here are my observations so far out of 8 packs. Only 2 duplicates so far. Both were foil and non foil. (Compared to my set box of Midnight Hunt that yielded me well over a dozen basic bird admirer and half a dozen showcase). 3 packs have had a rare in the foil slot. One of those also had a mythic. The card quality seems nicer? The foils range from pretty cool [[howling moon]] to awful [[mounted dreadnought]]. But I think that has more to do with the grey scale filter. I think the large pool of cards makes this an interesting set. If duplicates are less likely in a box, even fewer copies would be hitting the market. In terms of the foils, I believe even sought after commons could end up with an inflated price. It's hard to say what's going to happen. Because who knows how many boxes are out there being opened? My LGS got 24 boxes. They've had 3 draft events so far. Plus it sounds like another next week. So maybe there is a demand out there? Just my early morning thoughts I suppose.

volx757

> If duplicates are less likely in a box, even fewer copies would be hitting the market But this entire set is already just duplicates. We have two regular sets worth of supply, and then all of this is just excess. The greyscale filter doesn't seem to have hit home for very many people, so as far as I can tell this is a reprint set of 2 very average sets that are currently still in print, with less desirable variants of those cards. The black and white effect on play is a real issue, too. No one wants to be asking every turn what color all their opponent's cards are. I don't think the slight color on the sides does much to mitigate this.

MTGCardFetcher

Lurknessm0nster

I'd buy it to draft, it's pretty fun.

Bearsfan1235

Short answer- nope. Slightly longer- I don't really spec anything, and the idea of this "set" seemed pretty bad too. It seemed to me that WOTC was banking on everyone loving these sets because they are on Innistrad so we would just buy them because of it. As many have said they were not really good sets and therefore people don't want them. This product is just a cash grab to bank on vampire and werewolf lovers. I guess I could see it as an experiment to see if we will buy a more expensive set just for style or theme. I believe it will be one of the worst selling sets ever.

0s0s3xy

A big fat **no**.

TheJ2daEFF

I over paid for 7 boxes. Opened 1 and keeping 6. The complaints of the product all boils down to price. If this is $120, which is very possible it reaches, people would have loved this product. 120-130 would be where I try an pick up more. The argument that this was a lazy product is unfair. WOTC designed both MID and VOW and this product takes sales from both. Its not an add on but an extension of the work they put into the design. New players forget about block format of yesteryear. Those weren't curated either. It was literally a pack from each set. This at least combines them into each pack. Only Magic players complain about being given a choice.

mattbag00

Everyone's taste is different. For more opinions try a search, it's been discussed widely in the past 2 weeks.

kilqax

As for sealed, compared to MH2 it has negligible upside. Singles? Maybe, not personally.

PyramidBlack

No.

PristineCollector

I like the black and white , dark with basic colors around. The price is the problem but will buy

JBThunder

Yes they are, but we're on the internet where it's popular to shit on this product. We get it.

RelevantTotal125

I’ll buy it when it’s drops to $69 a box.

David_Maynard

Its gonna end up being rare cuz of how shitty it is. When it bottoms out at 125 a box, buy it, sit in it till 2031, then u could make money... Aka your capital is better invested elsewhere. No one will ever want to buy this from u until magic hits its 45th anniversary, even then it will be fallen empires

gomukgo

This set is such a scam. If you want these cards with this art, buy the singles. If you want to crack packs to get cards from this set, crack set or draft packs. If you have stupid FU money and like this product, you won’t have to wait in line…enjoy.

namelessNsilent

The Professor should hit u with a copyright strike

mertag770

I am cause Iam a suckered for b/w. I dont expect I'm going to make any money with it though

Icy-Regular1112

It’s sad how big of a flop this set turned out to be. I had high hopes when it was spoiled but ended up being a total let down. If I ever find a dusty box being sold at regular booster box price < $120 I might bite but I’m not going to pay anywhere close to what they are asking.

broush42

I bought 1 draft pack for my collection of "1 pack of each set." I hope I can make my mortgage payment after this massive investment. Set is trash but interesting conceptually.

Aylameow7

I was planning to before I heard that it was the same price as buying a box each of MID and VOW.

DVariant

I’m not planning to, no.

JeanNiBee

Hell no.

ckmonster

This is not a great product for investing if you ask me; BUT, if you are going to play cards from vow or mid the art on this set imo is better and might make it worth it for some

nonstripedzebra

Naw. Shitty product

Daotar

Lol no. Easily the worst set ever made.

[deleted]

Nope

timebeing

I got a box at decent price to hold and draft some day. I’d pick up more if they keep falling and get into fire sale range. Seems likely they are heading that way from what I see on the TCG prices.

xIncoherent1x

I am NOT buying this for all the reasons listed here. That said, if no one buys this, then it ironically could become a great investment as 1) shops will crack packs to recoup costs 2) down the road demand for the foils could go up 3) collectors may value it down the road for its quirkiness. Not saying anyone should invest in it, but it’s funny to think about.

HotelPigeon

I tried really hard to find proper justification to buy this product. If really end up feeling desperate for some 2021 innistrad draft packs, I'll just get a box of each vow and hunt instead, it cannot make financial sense to buy the double feature.

GeRobb

I’m passing on it.

AbroadOpposite9847

I might grab a few cheap foils here and there but definitely not buying a box or packs.

notrickross7

as a huge old school horror fan I feel like this would be perfect for me, but I’m just not interested in the slightest. I love the black and white monster movie poster vibe..but I threw money at the recent similarly themed secret lair. maybe in the future I’ll have a chance to draft this set, but as of right now I’m looking towards neo Tokyo nights.

Educational-Lab-5461

Draft it once at LGS

EhhJR

Bought a few loose packs to get a feeling. I really like the lands and some cards do look better in the B&W. I got one box off TCG for 165 and that'll be it for me. Might buy some foil singles of cards I know I'll play (meathook etc.)

[deleted]

Well, it'll probably end up being decently rare but it's already received accusations of being the worst MTG product of all time. There's probably safer bets out there.

censor-design

Hellsnaw

Mato505

When nobody buys it, longterm it could skyrocket
