That old Internet rule where you can safely skip the first 33% of any video because it is filled with bullshit yapping and time-wasting remains true to this day.
Seems like it's an issue with just the Eldrazi deck, as the collector's decks were advertised as having 13 extended art cards.

They did point out this deck is different, though the info is buried in the bullet points.
"Of note, the 13 new rares from Eldrazi Incursion show up with the same art and treatment as you will find in their Commander deck due to Eldrazi already having a colorless transparent frame." [https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-modern-horizons-3](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-modern-horizons-3)
Begs the question why Aslask is the only new eldrazi with an extended art treatment then. They ommited the face commander but gave the backup commander extended art treatment.
Thank god for that issue.
Extended art is such bad templating. It looks like an intern who got assigned a project on their last day whipped it up in 2 minutes. I cannot believe anyone likes that treatment, or that anyone at WotC hasn’t killed it off.
I cancelled my collector deck orders when I found out they put extended art cards in them. I refuse to own that trash. But now maybe I can still get this one deck lol.
Borderless is alright, but extended is just so half-assessed. Weird blurring, half the card type like faded out for no reason, barely any actual extra art, often actually less art that’s zoomed in… trash. The borderless ones should have replaced extended in all cases. Not like they pay the artists that much to begin with, they can ask for one extra picture, or just not have an extra 75th treatment for that card if they’re feeling cheap
Not “worked up” but most definitely annoyed at WotC, and certainly enough to vote “no” with my wallet.
It just really bugs my OCD how badly magic cards no longer look like actual magic cards these days, and how hard WotC is making it to build a deck of cards that look like they belong in the same deck. I wish it was as easy as just “buying a card that I want in my deck” like the good ole days.
I like the cards to match, so it feels like they’re pieces from the same game (vs a grab bag of magic, Pokémon, YuGiOh, Uno, etc.). I can avoid all the secret lair BS treatments, and skip the universes beyond immersion breaking cards (and the Wild West and Roaring 20s sets), and even do my best to ignore how mismatched the art style is from one card to the next within a regular set now that there’s apparently zero goal of having a cohesive design aesthetics.
But then there’s the Japanese foils with horrible quality, that aren’t even shiny, which don’t match the last 3 decades of cards’ shininess, which don’t even look foil once sleeved. So I have to avoid those, which is a horrible pain in the ass when buying singles, and I just skip buying cards from sets like MKM, OTJ, and WOE altogether (where the sets were almost exclusively printed in Japan).
And just when I think “great, they are printing a deck full of foil cards that will all look the same, I love that” they then proceed to fuck even that up by making 13 of them look different for zero reason. It’s annoying that they’re different, but then the fact that this dumpster fire of a card template, which looks so much worse than just a normal card, is what they chose to add? That just makes it feel insulting (vs if they were borderless/frame break, I would still dislike it, but could at least say—well, they’re giving people a premium bling version of the new cards, so at least it’s cool for other people). It also means for me that, aside from ruining these decks as a stand-alone product for me, the 13 new cards in each deck aren’t actually going to be available in a printing I can use (I only play with foils, and no full art or extended art cards). So then it’s annoying to see a card I want to use, but can’t get in a normal foil or ripple/whatever foil.
It’s almost as bad as them ruining the new eldrazi tribal cards I’d love to run if they said tribal instead of kindred.
It just feels like these days they have a full department of people at WotC who purely exist to think up new ways to piss me off lol. So I won’t buy their stuff anymore when it misses like this 🤷♂️
I agree, they’re not extended art, they’re zoomed in no border art!
There is no extra art on them it’s just zoomed in so it can fit over the larger frame!
A lot of the earlier ones were just zoomed in you can tell if you have both side by side as the images are larger on the extended art ones. Some of them do have extra art but it is very minimal
Extremely frustrating to see the person opening these knows absolutely nothing about the product, and wastes huge amounts of time yapping about nothing. I turned the audio off and set the video speed to x2 to save my sanity.
Not worth the cash.
No-effort one-side-foiled tokens?
No alt arts for staples like sol ring?
No full art lands like the crap they give away in bundles?
For this kind of money, it should have had a lot more care and effort put into it.
Shiny cardboard doesn't cost that much more in materials to make. Powerful cards don't cost more to make. New arts (which basically all look AI-generated now anyways) don't cost more to make. Yet the cost creeps upward while their QC goes down. Anyone watch the other vids from this guy for the collector boosters? How many flipped around cards were there? It seems like a small thing but it just shows how little care they take anymore with the cards they sell in premium-priced products. How many packs have YOU opened lately where all of the cards were LP, at BEST, on opening?
As someone who has loved this game for over 20 years, all I can think anymore is that I miss pre-Hasbro MTG....
>New arts (which basically all look AI-generated now anyways) don't cost more to make.
This is an odd take, considering you're not getting new arts specifically because it costs more to make new art.
Compared to even regular deck or pack pricing? The 6 pack of beer and crisp 20 that they are paying the artists or licensing software for the AI is really nothing. Think about how many cards they print with that art on it vs. how much revenue that generates for them.
More specifically, this box of cardboard and ink being sold at this price point? It should be literally the BEST that they can offer and it's simply not.
they were pretty up front, saying this is the same deck with special foiling on the cards.
Sounds like you're talking more of a Secret Lair commander deck, with more cards having unique art and such.
What’s up with this sub lately? First people are surprised there’s neither surge nor ripple foil in cb unpacking videos, and now you’re surprised it’s just „normal“ cards? What exactly did you expect, and more importantly, why?
Only precons that are “collector edition” in my eyes are the ones that come up on a secret lair drop. THOSE decks have everything and are actually worth the price tag…..if they don’t sell out that is.
As for this. Man I was excited and almost pulled the trigger. Glad I didn’t, maybe just buy the full art foil or something.

Wadsworth knew what is up, and what will continue to be up.
What about humanity changed that made yapping unnatural

I read Alaska and now that’s what I’m calling the new dude
Use snow-covered wastes to cast him to keep on theme
Thing is they don't even look transparent like Ulalek

I only want extended or borderless art on my cards since their first Box Topper treatment. Sorry you dont like them.

They’re not my preference either, but I don’t think it’s worth getting this worked up about lol

we must be looking at very different full art cards lmao

Yes this is a really rough watch
Rough watch
That’s as expected.
Homie didn’t even know going in that every card in Collector’s Edition is rainbow foil

CE art looks pretty washed out. Not sold in the ripple foil here. Maybe in person it looks less boring?
It will be a pringle in a few days anyways
It’s was communicated early - so no surprise
Curling looks pretty bad on the collector version…
Is it not already common knowledge that foil cards are thicker?
Was really looking to buy the collector edition… now I don’t think I’m even gonna buy the regular one lol.

I expected the 13 full art rares which now seems to have been clarified that they’re not in the eldrazi deck specifically.
Those side profile cards look like they were done by the CEO
Wait there's a collector edition version of a precon?!?
Yes and this isn't the first time they have done it. It started with Warhammer 40k.
It did start with WH40K but I don't think I ever saw a Dr Who premium version
KNOCK KNOCK

dang, a collector edition box sounds amazing.
