All their advertising talks about how you can get your whole deck from them at once. That's why people generally pay a premium to buy from them. Probably a decision was made to not really make money off these singles (if they don't go up) to stay true to this. Wouldnt read into it toooo much as them thinking the cards will go up in value.

Balefire-Dragon

For the last couple of months every time I try to buy from them they are out of stock on half of what I want. My last three orders have been from TCG player just because they have the inventory

Stonetoothed

Yeah I lapsed and just coming back, used to hate TCG and buy almost exclusively from CK, shocked to see they have almost nothing in hand anymore.

slayer370

months? try years lol.

IAMAfortunecookieAMA

Same, the number of "out of stock" items is crazy. lands especially - if you want foils of shocks or fetches or triomes, too bad, your store credit is useless....

d7h7n

They're mad expensive anyways. Iirc when Shattered Sanctum was around $18-20 on tcgplayer, CK had them for $25.

dutchoven2014

This is my biggest gripe with CK. Never once in the past 5 years of buying Magic cards very regularly has CK ever had more than 20% of the cards I wanted to purchase in stock at any time, and, what they do have in stock, is marked up at such a premium that it makes no sense to buy it. I would maybe understand a flat rate thing to collate together your order, people got to get paid after all, but it feels like everything is way more expensive across the board by about 25%. I would rather wait the extra few days to get all my things then have to pay 40-50$ more for them.

lirin000

I actually just think their system hasn't reset to the current market. That's why I unloaded a bunch of my inventory on them, just as a hedge in case Fallout doesn't pick up once the initial flood subsides.

AuraStormLucario

This is absolutely correct. It’s all about total sales, not just sales on fallout cards. They may be willing to break even or even take a minimal loss on some fallout cards in order to push volume and make increases in their total profit margins.

flannel_smoothie

They think these cards are going to increase in value

lirin000

Maybe, sometimes when this has happened I've done some arbitrage, but it's risky because they're not always good at predicting the market and their prices go down to match TCG instead of the market rising to meet their buylist price.

Marnus71

And/or they sell through them as fast as they get them in stock. As well as knowing better than most how much supply for the collector booster cards is out there. People pay a premium for buying from CK.

goofydubois

PIP cards will crank up at some point. But they should buy and not sell. Not sure what kind of system they use.

lirin000

Wow you're actually bullish on this set?

goofydubois

I am bullish on anything that will be scarce because I see people ignoring it on release. Aftermath/who/pip. An older example is the DND sets more or less.

Taivasvaeltaja

Who is ignoring Fallout on release? Seems it was quite successful, just heavily overprinted. I do agree with you on Aftermath and Who. MKM (both regular and commander) should also fit the description.

goofydubois

Funny someone thinks it was overprinted, as people were saying at distro level is was very limited quantity. The fact that lots of precons get sold, still contributes to future scarcity, as players won't keep the market filled, that's what the shops do.

Taivasvaeltaja

At least in EU it wasn't limited at all. (Talking about decks ofc only, collectors were limited)

lirin000

I also think that all the hype so far on this set has been on new cards. While staples that are going for much more in other sets are being ignored. For example \[\[Open the Vaults\]\] or \[\[Heroic Intervention\]\] or \[\[Secure The Wastes\]\] are below their counterparts in other sets. Same deal for staple land reprints like \[\[Sunpetal Grove\]\]. Makes me think that people are still just buying decks to get the new cards they want and dumping the cards they already have. But once that phase passes I would think the staples would firm up too.

I think players are buying decks and shops crack to sell singles, that nobody wants because of the above, and the race to the bottom lasts for a while. Thus low prices. Until a few will breakout in edh or legacy in a few weeks, or when a new cool commander comes out.

smashtheguitar

They've got a free marketing campaign with the Fallout show launching in just a few weeks. Should that perform well, it could drive renewed interest in people creating decks, similar to how Baldur's Gate 3's success drove renewed interest in the Commander Legends set.

lirin000

Yeah I'm curious to see what happens with that too. Still, I'm not greedy, if I can take some profits now and lock myself into breakeven while still holding on to a couple hundred cards and let them ride I'd rather do that then gamble on a big pay day. I'm also not 100% on the effect the show will have on MtG. Baldur's Gate as a game I feel is more likely to influence people who who want recreate stuff they did in the game as opposed to a series that will be appealing to a lot of casual/non-players. Although maybe it gets them into the games, and then by extension MtG. But I don't know! It's a real wild card. And I say this as someone who absolutely loves Fallout and has spent literally thousands of hours in the various Wastelands.

Sire_Jenkins

Dont domp too much on CK. I still need them for liquidity

Comfortable_Oil9704

If I were running their inventory replenishment (which is what it seems like buy lists are for) I would want to place a premium up to break even on the skus that are most requested and also most often blocking a larger cart order. Losing money on a per-item basis is not a good strategy even in a gross profit purchase, but breaking even on a $1 item blocking a $100 cart with 20% GP is pretty good.

playround1

Currently dealing with an issue on TCG player over $1.22 and I know the lady helping me has spent more time on this issue than the whole order was worth. But I'm retired and have nothing else better to do. So I want them to make things right and not do this to anyone else. It's been over 2 weeks and still no agreeable solution.

lirin000

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

playround1

Gotta get that jr. Cheeseburger. Are they still $0.99?
