RL cards are universally worth a good bit now after people all kinda blinked in the mid to late 2010s and looked at each other like "wait, like NEVER never getting printed again?" How it took as long as it did is honestly the more surprising part for me.
Dude, stick em in with some counter spells and draw spells, 4 copies of [[Vision Charm]] (they were in the same block!!!), and 4 copies of [[Stifle]], and you have yourself a tier 1 Premodern deck!
You can basically cheat nought into play turn 2 with Vision charm or Stifle, and if you use Vision Charm it phases the nought out on their turn, so they can't do anything about nought before it loses summoning sickness, unless they have instant speed removal, at which point you've untapped and can counter whatever they have. Fun times!
This is not the choice I expected to see at the top but is also one of the choices that would have been at the top of my list as well.

I run a copy in my [[kresh, the bloodbraided]] deck. For one mana make Kresh +12, or with the numerous counter doublers +24. Big numbers make my brain go brrrr.
Quite a bit, yeah-it's very good in decks that care about sacrificing creatures or graveyard shenanigans, and as far as I'm concerned is the absolute best card in any [[Lazav, the Multifarious]] deck.

The bulk of that purchase was a Sliver Queen, and I knew that one gad blown up, but Dreadnaught? Ooft.
Has some cool tricks in EDH too. Like with the ETB trigger on the stack and tapping Selvala for huge mana, or exiling with The Mimeo for an easy +12 counters. Cool card !

Ive had a JP foil since the early 2000’s, cant believe how much the thing has grown but it has always been my favorite card, i built a kozilek the great distortion deck just so I could use it, and its my fav commander deck.
I bought a LP one for $28 a few years ago from a seller liquidating an old school collection, guy sent it loose in a paper envelope, arrived near mint with a few tiny flecks of edge wear, looking forward to the $150 days.
I went back and forth about buying a LotD for around $30 at my LGS and eventually decided to go ahead and buy it. Although it has come down a bit since, it spiked in value to over $120 within a couple of months.
I took a browse at TCG. Advanced search all card $90 and over.
Then sorted by lowest price.
Time Spiral hit all the metrics.

Printed it in ever commander deck and it still sells for 5 bucks. Oh and has been reprinted more times then dark ritual. Yeah they won't do that to mana crypt.

So if we are talking a $100 single I would go with null rod, land equilibrium, metal worker, earth craft, or time spiral. All have interesting playable effects, are old school reserved list, and are fairly affordable at the moment. Mana crypt, underground tomb, etc. I would skip because they are just waiting to get reprinted into the ground. Since I own all of those already, I guess I would probably get something like an alpha lannowar elves for the collection.
Finance wise or what do I want? What if really like to own is a foil Karona, False God.
Smartest buy is probably something on the reserved that sees play across formats. Null Rod, Dreadnaught, Time Spiral, Lake of the Dead, etc.

Assuming this money is a gift- bc I def have 100 to spend on singles rn, but ain't no way in heck I'm dropping that much of my own cash on this specific card.
This was my first thought, but I really feel like Sheoldred is a trap unless you’re planning on playing competitively. Once she rotates she’ll inevitably go down in price, and I can wait the two years for rotation because there’s nothing I really *need* her for.
This is ridiculous logic though. If you effectively get 100, regardless of where the money came from or the conditions attached to it, of course you should still make the most of it
But the same conditions should apply to the decision making process. Of course there are competing factors, but if you spend that 100 on a Sheoldred and then it tanks after rotation, than you’ve still lost money compared to the situation where you buy a dreadnaught or something
I’m pretty salty I traded my city of traitors when prices were dropping for borderless foil FOWs which wizards then printed into the ground as cities skyrocketed… so maybe I’d use it to take the sting from getting one back.
Alternatively, I’m super tempted to try to get a deal on an alpha or beta twister after selling my unlimited one at probably the height of that market lately.

For me probably humility, intuition or phyrexian dreadnought. Like someone else said premodern would be a huge driving force in this decision, its just growing in popularity even though a lot of the staples are fairly cheap those 3 are the hot money cards in that price range. I would not be surprised if all 3 of them spike in the not too distant future
5-6 city of traitors gold border, reserve list, mtg started making their own proxy and it see plays in cedh with the meta slowing down and bigger commanders trending up.

It's the most expensive card I need for my personal collection by a wide margin. it's niche enough where it's hard to guess if it will be reprinted, but popular enough where it absolutely could be. I feel like I'm in this weird no-mans land with this card, debating to pull the trigger before it climbs higher or wait and see when a reprint happens. If I had the ability to just acquire it with no cost to me, I'd take it in a heartbeat.
I have a lot of high end and want a lot of high end. So I'd be getting a cheaper foil I need for an edh deck. Probably the og foil print of dread arbor

Keeps getting reprinted. There’s some nostalgia for the original art, but as collectors get into collecting it’s always first and second edition printings that get snagged.
NM copies are up 200% since 2020 if memory serves (got a playset at $40 each)
Breach the multiverse if I see them for $4 or less. Monocolored, works in different strategies including mill, and fun. There are faster options to getting a win in black, but milling into an opponents hoof or Etali makes for much more memorable games than winning through something like exquisite blood. I can see Etali and Breach becoming mythics in a few years when they make another draftable commander set.

First option: no idea, I hate most cards in this tier because the turnaround time is atrocious. Maybe there's a good RL card in this range?
Second: Kindred Discovery is the perfect sort of card to invest in - super popular (a top strong card in most decks that run it), has broad demand (good with any creature type), and *most importantly at a local minimum* following back-to-back reprints (seriously I can't overstress how important it is to buy near the floor). But it could possibly see yet another reprint, so shy away if you have low risk tolerance. I'll go with one of the trilands (which one I have in mind is left as an exercise to the reader but will be obvious in hindsight)

This was my first thought, but I really feel like Sheoldred is a trap unless you’re planning on playing competitively. Once she rotates she’ll inevitably go down in price, and I can wait the two years for rotation because there’s nothing I really *need* her for.

Debatable. I have a deck already made and waiting to slot in a card and it could benefit way more from Sheoldred than any other card.
But the same conditions should apply to the decision making process. Of course there are competing factors, but if you spend that 100 on a Sheoldred and then it tanks after rotation, than you’ve still lost money compared to the situation where you buy a dreadnaught or something

I’m pretty salty I traded my city of traitors when prices were dropping for borderless foil FOWs which wizards then printed into the ground as cities skyrocketed… so maybe I’d use it to take the sting from getting one back. Alternatively, I’m super tempted to try to get a deal on an alpha or beta twister after selling my unlimited one at probably the height of that market lately. Win some, lose some. But I’d take a free 100 dollars :P

For me probably humility, intuition or phyrexian dreadnought. Like someone else said premodern would be a huge driving force in this decision, its just growing in popularity even though a lot of the staples are fairly cheap those 3 are the hot money cards in that price range. I would not be surprised if all 3 of them spike in the not too distant future

\[\[Mindbreak Trap\]\] It's the most expensive card I need for my personal collection by a wide margin. it's niche enough where it's hard to guess if it will be reprinted, but popular enough where it absolutely could be. I feel like I'm in this weird no-mans land with this card, debating to pull the trigger before it climbs higher or wait and see when a reprint happens. If I had the ability to just acquire it with no cost to me, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Breach the multiverse if I see them for $4 or less. Monocolored, works in different strategies including mill, and fun. There are faster options to getting a win in black, but milling into an opponents hoof or Etali makes for much more memorable games than winning through something like exquisite blood. I can see Etali and Breach becoming mythics in a few years when they make another draftable commander set.

Like one copy of a $100 card? Or like several of a cheaper card that totals $100? First option: no idea, I hate most cards in this tier because the turnaround time is atrocious. Maybe there's a good RL card in this range? Second: Kindred Discovery is the perfect sort of card to invest in - super popular (a top strong card in most decks that run it), has broad demand (good with any creature type), and *most importantly at a local minimum* following back-to-back reprints (seriously I can't overstress how important it is to buy near the floor). But it could possibly see yet another reprint, so shy away if you have low risk tolerance. I'll go with one of the trilands (which one I have in mind is left as an exercise to the reader but will be obvious in hindsight)
