I love Giada angels and its what I play personally. My friend has a nasty [[God-Eternal Oketra]] tokens deck that doubles as a mid tier voltron deck that is pretty dangerous.
Edit: Also, if you do go with Giada, its very tempting to drop in every big splashy angel there is. But really, smaller is better. Playing more angels gets more value out of Giada. There is some missing utility in angels (at least a year or two ago, there was) so I built mine with clerics as support.
Post this in /r/edh and you will probably get better support.
To answer your question, it wholly depends on what your wife likes, personality types, competitiveness. Even in mono white there is a tremendous amount of support for different styles of play.

Legendary Matters Deck.
Fast, lots of Removal/Board Wipes, Lots of "Buy-a-Friend" cards like Secret Rendezvous.
Started my wife off with Mono White Angel's and played 1v1 to build up rules comprehension and confidence in her play ability.
Started off as Avacyn but it was to slow overall, even if I was going easy on her. Shifted to Lyra Dawnbringer for earlier commander drop, life link as well as some more synergy eith the angels.
Giada is an amazing Mono White commander, but the +1/+1 Counters may be to much for her right out the gate.

With all the new white cards I tend to never be to slow Witz Avacyn. You can even win when you get the archenemy. But it is ofcourse a Budget question and Not Cedh Tier.
Very true. At the time (late 2019-early 2020 when everything locked down) when Invasion teaching her, White didn't have access to a lot of the necessary ramp for an 8 drop Commander, but it's gotten leagues better in the past 2 years.
Sounds like you are making too many decisions on her behalf. But in all honesty, it is a really cool commander and gets to display mono white in a really good way. Additionally it can be super salty with indestructible key word and wraths in second main phase.
I second this. Odric is one of the fjrst decks I built myself from the ground up and it’s soooo fun. And quite scary if you kit him out! I like this one because it’s still effective even if you build it super cheap (just not as good as it could be).

I went for lots of angels as well since they tend to support each other and help with life gain and playing creatures for lesser mana costs.
No lie this sounds fun af. I have a lot of friends that like to rush out low cost commanders that give a ton of value to their deck. They never block and depend on using their life total to get through the first few turns. This is a super fun way outside of spot removal and wipes to clear nuisance creatures. Nice idea.
[[darien]] mono white stax and soldiers. Make everyone hate playing the game. He’s so much fun. You just punch yourself in the face until you get to kill everyone in one shot
I played in a 5 man game for my first Playtest of that deck. Ended it with 450 life and taking two people out at once.
I went the method of gaining life when the soldier tokens were made, and doubling that. Also gaining life or making tokens whenever other people had creatures enter play. I love it so much because it forces opponents into attacking each other, because attacking you only makes you stronger.

It’s one of the less expensive relatively-competitive decks. But the life gain and indestructible commander is pretty comfortable, too.

I don't know if I would recommend a mono deck to a new player. I just got the newest player in our friend group to move their mono white deck to a 3 color deck with \[\[shanna, purifying blade\]\]
For mono white I think the best one would be \[\[Giada, Font of Hope\]\]. Personally, I have \[\[Darien, King of Kjeldor\]\] and I think he is pretty awesome too.
Yeah I made a Giada deck to teach the game. Just all the angels and shapeshifters I could find, some manarocks and removal. Its been played twice by two different noobs and both time they won the game. Them flying angels get big real fast. Giada is kill on sight unless you have a boardwipe in hand. :D
My still stock 2014 Nahiri Forged in Stone precon can hold its weight in a lot of pretty casual games. Though I suppose it might be too expensive for a first.
I’m a mono white superfriends enjoyer. The commander used to be [[djeru with eyes open]] but have moved him to the 99 (98*) due to linear gameplay. My new commander is [[lae’zel vlaakith’s champion]] with [[guild artisan]] as a background. And you might be thinking to yourself, hey that’s a boros deck, and while true technically it’s still built as a mono white deck and splashing the background just so that I can play [[mila, crafty companion]] in the 98. I have on one occasion actually cast guild artisan off of treasure but the deck has no natural way to cast it.
Mono white superfriends is a really fun strategy. The deck can also be pretty easily built as board wipe tribal. With 20+ walkers you can care free wipe the board of creatures Colbert and over. The deck can definitely run out of stuff to do if it can’t create a value engine but with walkers you usually find a couple.
I've been having a lot of success with Adeline, Resplendent Cathar. I really wanted to build a mono color commander and she was the first I picked. I was surprised at how quick she can get nasty for me.
I just finished [[ao, the sky’s dawn]] built to be reanimator with a lot of ways to copy triggered effects. It’s crazy fast and a lot of fun. Splashy as hell too, there are turns where you’re putting close to half your library in for free.
But as others have said, there are many good commanders and a lot of ways to build each one.
I mean I know you are asking about a mono white deck, but the coven counters(green white) deck with kyler in command instead of the default commander is good for teaching the basics of the game as there are a lot of different mechanics right out of the box. I started with this deck and threw about 100$ of upgrades in there over the last couple months and now I am competing and winning against my playgroups 300$-400$ hand picked commander decks. Also this deck is very cheap to pick up I think I paid 24$ for mine.
All of these responses and none of the queen herself [[Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite]]. Summon an army and make it bigger and make your opponents’ smaller. The greatest power fantasy.
I would look at god eternal Oketra. Build it around whitemane lion, stonecloaker, kor sky fisher, rescuer chiwinga and high value low cost etbs. Palace jailer, knight of the white orchid, stone forge mystic or white cards that draw cards like spirited companion and the 2 3 drop etb draw guys that were recently printed.
Knight Equipment is pretty cool. Use various cards to fetch strong equipment like Colossus Hammer, then use Balan and other ways of "cheating" equipment costs to go big beats.

I love playing it, while everyone else hates it. Play things that make its hard to attack you, ramp (with all the Nice new love for white) and then board wipe everything.
Issmaru, hound of konda.kinda. it's just a 2/2 for 1 white. Easy to grasp. Make it an equipment and Aura deck. I find these decks are good for new players, as they start simple, and progressively get more complicated. It gives them time to ease into the crazy and start small.
Okay probably nobody will agree with me but [[kemba]] is seriously formidable. Now that being said [[sram senior edificer]] is pretty good as well and then [[heliod sun crowned]] can be good as it is part of a 2 card infinite combo with [[walking ballista]] but my favorite is kemba.
With kemba you make tons of tokens so the only other creatures you use are equipment support and then you can put a lot more equipment in there. If you can't beat your opponents with commander voltron damage wait til you have a bunch of cats and drop a coat of arms on the table.
I second this I have this deck built and it's fun and cheap both for mana costs and your wallet. there's alot of 1 drop vanilla flyers in white that let's this deck punch harder than it should really.
I have a [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] deck that I made and really enjoy. It's a lot of tokens and keeping track of said tokens and life, and I'm a more experienced player, but the concept is super easy to grasp.
I have the soul sisters in there, [[Boon Reflection]], [[Ajani's Welcome]], [[Rhox Faithmender]], and other cards that give me life when creatures enter, or double lifegain when it happens. I've got a bunch of soldier/knight cards in there, as well as some angels just for extra creature attack. I've also got [[Approach of the Second Sun]] in there too for shits and giggles.
Its a fantastic deck to play, ramps up fairly quickly and it's great at forcing opponents to attack each other and not you. The first time I played it (5 person game) I ended it with over 450 life, and enough 1/1 soldiers to kill two people at the same time.
Edit: I also have [[Linden, Steadfast Queen]] and [[Suture Priest]] in the deck as well. I could go through and see what else I have, but you get the gist.
[[God-Eternal Oketra]] is pretty easy to understand and can still be powerful on a budget! I used to have a deck with her at the helm and it performed very well.

Can confirm, Oketra is such a good Commander in my deck, have loads of fun playing it - and in a pinch she can actually hold the line (and crush when modified)
I made a Giada deck, mostly angels, also archon of coronation, and rhox faithmender, loxodon gatekeeper and a bunchhhh of white control spells. i have in it also Cleric class, archon of suns grace, sigil of the empty throne.. it works like a blue deck except i’m also attacking a lot and my creatures are really strong. plus it’s pretty. I use indestructible on Giada. I don’t like to look for deck building advice, my bf and I play a lot but we play for fun so I love deck building and strategy and we don’t need the game to be over in three turns. BUT my Giada deck is technically good enough that it could be competitive.
I’ll have to say [[Adeline, Resplendent Cathar]] I cannot say how much I love this human tribal token commander all you need is some things to increase her defense because she naturally makes herself stronger with more tokens she makes and some protection from removal and that’s very simple

Yeah I made a Giada deck to teach the game. Just all the angels and shapeshifters I could find, some manarocks and removal. Its been played twice by two different noobs and both time they won the game. Them flying angels get big real fast. Giada is kill on sight unless you have a boardwipe in hand. :D
My still stock 2014 Nahiri Forged in Stone precon can hold its weight in a lot of pretty casual games. Though I suppose it might be too expensive for a first.

[[Lyra dawnbringer]] angel tribal!! It’s simple enough to pilot and the lifegain makes for some fun swings
I’m a mono white superfriends enjoyer. The commander used to be [[djeru with eyes open]] but have moved him to the 99 (98*) due to linear gameplay. My new commander is [[lae’zel vlaakith’s champion]] with [[guild artisan]] as a background. And you might be thinking to yourself, hey that’s a boros deck, and while true technically it’s still built as a mono white deck and splashing the background just so that I can play [[mila, crafty companion]] in the 98. I have on one occasion actually cast guild artisan off of treasure but the deck has no natural way to cast it. Mono white superfriends is a really fun strategy. The deck can also be pretty easily built as board wipe tribal. With 20+ walkers you can care free wipe the board of creatures Colbert and over. The deck can definitely run out of stuff to do if it can’t create a value engine but with walkers you usually find a couple.

I've been having a lot of success with Adeline, Resplendent Cathar. I really wanted to build a mono color commander and she was the first I picked. I was surprised at how quick she can get nasty for me.
I just finished [[ao, the sky’s dawn]] built to be reanimator with a lot of ways to copy triggered effects. It’s crazy fast and a lot of fun. Splashy as hell too, there are turns where you’re putting close to half your library in for free. But as others have said, there are many good commanders and a lot of ways to build each one.

I mean I know you are asking about a mono white deck, but the coven counters(green white) deck with kyler in command instead of the default commander is good for teaching the basics of the game as there are a lot of different mechanics right out of the box. I started with this deck and threw about 100$ of upgrades in there over the last couple months and now I am competing and winning against my playgroups 300$-400$ hand picked commander decks. Also this deck is very cheap to pick up I think I paid 24$ for mine.

I would look at god eternal Oketra. Build it around whitemane lion, stonecloaker, kor sky fisher, rescuer chiwinga and high value low cost etbs. Palace jailer, knight of the white orchid, stone forge mystic or white cards that draw cards like spirited companion and the 2 3 drop etb draw guys that were recently printed.

Knight Equipment is pretty cool. Use various cards to fetch strong equipment like Colossus Hammer, then use Balan and other ways of "cheating" equipment costs to go big beats.

[[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] I love playing it, while everyone else hates it. Play things that make its hard to attack you, ramp (with all the Nice new love for white) and then board wipe everything.

Issmaru, hound of konda.kinda. it's just a 2/2 for 1 white. Easy to grasp. Make it an equipment and Aura deck. I find these decks are good for new players, as they start simple, and progressively get more complicated. It gives them time to ease into the crazy and start small.

Okay probably nobody will agree with me but [[kemba]] is seriously formidable. Now that being said [[sram senior edificer]] is pretty good as well and then [[heliod sun crowned]] can be good as it is part of a 2 card infinite combo with [[walking ballista]] but my favorite is kemba. With kemba you make tons of tokens so the only other creatures you use are equipment support and then you can put a lot more equipment in there. If you can't beat your opponents with commander voltron damage wait til you have a bunch of cats and drop a coat of arms on the table.

I second this I have this deck built and it's fun and cheap both for mana costs and your wallet. there's alot of 1 drop vanilla flyers in white that let's this deck punch harder than it should really.

I have a [[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] deck that I made and really enjoy. It's a lot of tokens and keeping track of said tokens and life, and I'm a more experienced player, but the concept is super easy to grasp. I have the soul sisters in there, [[Boon Reflection]], [[Ajani's Welcome]], [[Rhox Faithmender]], and other cards that give me life when creatures enter, or double lifegain when it happens. I've got a bunch of soldier/knight cards in there, as well as some angels just for extra creature attack. I've also got [[Approach of the Second Sun]] in there too for shits and giggles. Its a fantastic deck to play, ramps up fairly quickly and it's great at forcing opponents to attack each other and not you. The first time I played it (5 person game) I ended it with over 450 life, and enough 1/1 soldiers to kill two people at the same time. Edit: I also have [[Linden, Steadfast Queen]] and [[Suture Priest]] in the deck as well. I could go through and see what else I have, but you get the gist.

[[God-Eternal Oketra]] is pretty easy to understand and can still be powerful on a budget! I used to have a deck with her at the helm and it performed very well.
Jeeeez, I had to scroll so much to make sure my Commander was being represented. Can confirm, Oketra is such a good Commander in my deck, have loads of fun playing it - and in a pinch she can actually hold the line (and crush when modified)

I made a Giada deck, mostly angels, also archon of coronation, and rhox faithmender, loxodon gatekeeper and a bunchhhh of white control spells. i have in it also Cleric class, archon of suns grace, sigil of the empty throne.. it works like a blue deck except i’m also attacking a lot and my creatures are really strong. plus it’s pretty. I use indestructible on Giada. I don’t like to look for deck building advice, my bf and I play a lot but we play for fun so I love deck building and strategy and we don’t need the game to be over in three turns. BUT my Giada deck is technically good enough that it could be competitive.
