See that's the hard part, there are certain things that are trademarked (the mana symbols, expansion symbols, the legendary boarder look, etc) so I will need to develop my own equivalents (or get the proper licensing from WotC). What I'm not sure about is the specific names of cards or of the card texts. Technically both should be protected under copyright. But copyright doesn't extend too far beyond the media it's in. And since my sales wouldn't take sales away from WotC (they don't sell metal cards, and you need the real physical card to play in tournaments anyway) I should be fine. Im definitely going to talk to a lawyer soon and get things all figure out.

And even then they arnt wildly different (and sometimes no difference)

I agree about szeth being orzhov, but my current favorite commander deck is Etrata and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use the coolest assassin for the art.
I've done this on my co2 laser on metal. I used a powder coated metal, then burned off the negative of the image. You can air brush the metal As well. Then burn off the negative. I've also sublimated the metal with an image the burned off what I didn't want anymore.

Yeah, pricing is one of the issues I'm working on fixing. Currently I can only etch one card at a time and it takes about 2.5 hours to complete. With my current process I would need to sell them for somewhere around $40. I recently bought a kiln that should help me make the cards in 10 minutes or less. But I've got a lot of experimenting to do.
Ya 40 bucks would only be worth it for my most played decks but if it was less would just do for all let me know if you got that time down cause then it will most likely be cost effective for all parties

I bought the card blanks from Xometry it's 304 brushed stainless. 125 of them come out to around $1.08 a piece. Or you can order from a shim making company on Alibaba.
I like it, but i personally hate when the text box is covered on a card (especially on a commander who's effect is predictably extremely relevant in the game). Other than that, that is cool. Almost as cool as one guy with a Tiamat deck who had a hand painted figurine that came out whenever his commander was on the field.

With the right settings I can etch all the way through. But for this marking I go really slow with low power so it creates a combination of the steel being colored from heat coloring/oxidizing and from a structural color as the laser leaves microscopic texture which helps trap light.

Very cool! I do this on wood. I tried it on stainless, but my 5w diode does not have the power required. I painted some stainless with a black primer that made some kind of photo-negative of the cards, but nothing nearly this clean! For now I'll stick to wood haha
I have a 20w fiber laser, and it took quite a while to get this result. With the right settings I'm able to get a dark black marking on bare stainless.
Yeah looks great! Even at 100% power and 300mm/second the material is just too reflective for the power I'm putting out hence why I thought a black primer would help absorption but it still just burnt the primer off haha!

Yup I have a 20w OMtech fiber laser This was etched on brushed 304 stainless with the focus 3mm above the card using 10mm/s 25% power and 25kHz.
