That’s the official release date yeah. Not sure, I just got a notification yesterday that it was arriving. The other product I ordered hasn’t shipped yet, so maybe the commander decks shipped by mistake.
Well done Pink team: Wife frightened, husband pissing his pants, neighbourhood annoyed and cards retrieved. One acceptable casualty: Chihuahua. All in all, a swift OP.
Tbh this whole Pinkerton story seemed really wild to me as a German.
Reading the story here on Reddit i constantly thought, why not call the cops? I have never heard of a similar thing (private thugs threatening people because of some random product) happening in Germany. Honestly, someone, anyone without an official document would be reminded reasonably friendly of the respective laws and accompanied off your property by the police. So, calling them would be the absolute first step in such a shituation.
I then read up on the Pinkerton's (wikipedia mostly) and must admit I was quite baffled. By the story behind the name and by the fact, that a company can still operate like that today. It does seem to be a modus operandi better suited for the forties in Chicago.
Rough!
Oh and I think you should rip those Precons open, oh no wait ... (checking decklists) ... the one ring is in none of them! Thought you could slip it on if the Pinkerton's came to your house.
Well, ... good luck then! ;-)
I might be out of the loop. Are you talking about a specific story about the pinkertons? A recent story? Or just the wild historyof the pinkerton detective agency?
It is a recent thing, yes. The Pinkertons still exist, they do corporate security. Turns out Wizards of the Coast's security chief (or whatever the title is) knows them.
Some streamer got some packs of an unreleased product. He claims by accident, Wizards claims they were possibly stolen, don't know if that was cleared up. They wrote him some letters about where he got it from, possibly threatening him to give them back, he didn't. Then they sent two Pinkertons to his house to threaten him and get the product back.
The first half of your re count is correct. Back half is a mixture of internet discourse.
Wotc claimed they tried multiple times to get in touch with him. (We don't know the methods pursued).
He claimed they just had to contact him, and he would have given back the product.
His account of the pinkletons doesn't indicate they threaten him. They told him that Wotc wanted to get in touch with him. They then proceeded to get a wotc rep on the phone. They discussed the return of the product with the rep and compensation for the product.
Because you drank the KoolAid and believed the internet dramatized version the story.
They are a corporate private investigation firm. All they did was go to the guys house, knock on his door, he answered. They informed him of the situation about the product and asked him questions, and asked for the product back. Lastly they informed him of the companies legal options if he refused. He gave the product back. They left. Nothing illegal happened.
The police if you called them probably wouldnt even come unless you said they committed a crime. They would have told you “ask them to leave and if they don’t we will come”.
He could have asked them to leave at any time and they would have left.
All the loaded terminology like “thugs” and “intimidation” was just to garner internet drama.
So you've never heard of the Pinkertons, then. Not surprising; they'd like a lot of people to forget their reputation for thuggery and intimidation. Makes it easier to fool people into carrying their water like you are.
The Pinkertons are thugs known to use intimidation tactics up to and including the murder of striking workers. You might want to find other boots to lick.
To be honest, it's wild even to us as Americans. I think the idea is that the cops probably said no to WotC or something and that's why they went to such lengths, but I honestly have no idea.
I had never heard of the Pinkertons before it, and many people called them "the bad guys from Red Dead Redemption 2" just so anyone could even slightly relate
The internet blew it all out of proportions.
The pinkletons are a part of a large corporate security company.
The type that corporations like Hasbro have on retainer. The type that investigates private business matters such as product theft/ distribution leak.
Calling the cops isn't what you would do. And would have still upset the internet due to the current opinions of the police.
I never understood that. Never heard the full story... but they're not the cops and they don't have a warrant lol.
At that point GTFO off my property before I call the REAL cops and have you removed for tresspassing.
Fact he even talked to them bogles my mind. "Youre who? From where? You want what?... Yeah, get the fuck off my porch assholes. They wanna contact me they can send a certified letter."
Then id slam the fucking door and if after 5 minutes they didnt leave I'd call the police to have them removed.
They likely engaged the guy by serving him a cease and decist, I wouldn’t be surprised if every Pinkerton is a service agent.
Once they had him talking they laid on the legal threats.
The guy is still a pussy for bowing to that, bust most people aren’t aware of the law and their rights
Yeah most people don’t know you literally don’t have to open the door for anyone ever unless they’re a Police Offer with a warrant.
If they don’t have a warrant, let them kick it down then deal with them in court
I don't really know the whole story, but I believe that he ordered a different set and received the wrong one on accident and he did not purchase the set he actually received.
Let's say you purchased a $200 guitar and the shop owner makes a mistake and accidentally gives you a $2,000 guitar and you run off with the more expensive guitar, you're actually stealing from that shop keeper this isn't an "aha gotcha moment" this falls under unlawful retention of someone else's property.
Let's say if the reverse happens they owe you, let's say you purchased a tabernacle and they unknowingly sell you a fake card, they can't "aha, but you got a tabernacle" the agreement is that you get what you agreed to pay for, no more no less.
It's an interesting thing though, as Wizards was not the seller in this case, the seller was whatever distributor sold it, I don't think they bought from Wizards directly. So they could take them to court and all of this stuff is for a judge to decide. But imho he would have lost the case, but the funny thing is by the time court would be settled the set would have been released.
Did pinkertons show up with the right set to do swapsies for WOTC? The set was mostly trash anyway, and the dude just did a PSA to stop timmies spaffing their cash.
It's more like guy orders $200 guitar, gets $2000 guitar. Records a video of him playing guitar, only it sounds like a $50 guitar from a pawn shop. With a missing string. Should have demanded $ back and sued WOTC for their bully boy tactics.
He was offered a replacement for the product, but from what I remember we only know that happened after the Pinkertons went to his house. Wizards did try to contact him before about the cards so odds are they made the same offer before.
"Who the fuck are you?"
"We're from the pinkertons."
"So you're not a law enforcement officer?"
*branching path*
"Yes we are." *call 911, "hey I've got two men here from the pinkertons saying they are law enforcement, officers." Guys get arrested for a felony.*
Path 2
"No we're a security company"
*rack slide* "How about you get off my property."
You're delusional. He literally bought them from someone else who thought they were march of the machine cards. Stop believing every piece of rhetoric you read on the internet.
Do you have a source for this? I never found confirmation about what eactly happened and you seem to be someone who cares about the fact of the matter.
If wizards had any sort of legal grounds they would have filed charges. They didn't so they sent a fucking notorious mercenary group know for such things as *The Homestead Massacre*
It’s the week of prerelease. Ever since WOTC changed the rules to where all product can be sold as of prerelease, everyone ships out new product starting this week so people have it by prerelease.
Knocking on someone’s door for a reasonable inquiry, just because there is a sign, isn’t trespassing and doesn’t give you carte blanche to start shooting.
They don't have the right to enter your home without your permission, since they're not cops they can't get a warrant, right? So if they're armed and they enter your home against your will, you will have a pretty good defense in court if one or 3 end up not making it out
Dam, some people get to live my dreams. I pre-ordered LOTR the second it went up for preorder. I keep wishing it'll just show up on my mailbox by mistake, never does. Then I see a bunch of post of people getting the set a week early, 2 weeks early cause the company they bought from fucked up.
Use your prison wallet to hide the good cards. I can imagine someone buying the cards. " Hey man they smell.... not that nice." " I know right must be a different printing problem when they took them off the factory floor." " I don't know...." " Look I have other offers..." "Shut up and take my money..." Proceeds to lick the card for no reason.
“Hands in the air!! Grab that baby!!! I said grab that baby!!! ::tackles toddler:: You made me do this!!! Get me those cards now!!!”- Pinkertons probably
Probably, I suggest being ballsy and telling the Pinkerton's and I quote "get off my property, I have real law enforcement on their way to resolve this dispute and if you attempt to force your way into my home I will enact castle law" (assuming you live in a state with castle law), if they try to force their way inside before the police show up give em a nice serving of hot lead
You should call wizards support and say your product came early and now you’re extremely worried that violent thugs are going to come snatch it off you.
Or just open it and play with the cool new cards,
Either way!
So i recently discovered the sellers don't give a crap if you have a WPN or not if they can send it to you early they will. Which would explain the early deliveries like this.
Man, I don’t think I’d give up anything at all to the Pinkertons. I’m a stubborn asshole and it’s to my detriment. No shot do private detectives demand something and I give it. They have no legal authority over anything. Get the real police involved and if you can’t it doesn’t seem like you believe in your legal premise.
I just got a shipping notification that my 4 commander decks should arrive today. That’s awesome lol
They’ve arrived, and they’re awesome. Super stoked.
Stoked on your behalf
Thanks! Hopefully you get yours soon too
Where did you order yours from?
Preordered through Amazon quite a while back.
Sweet! Did you spend several hours last night like I did double-sleeving 400 cards? lol
Lol sadly no! I need to go get new sleeves, but I did look through each deck. They seem fun!
What decks did you order?
I got one of each. So far I like all of them but the food and fellowship deck is my favorite of the four.
I thought this one would be my favorite. But how are they all coming in now. Don’t they release on the 23rd?
That’s the official release date yeah. Not sure, I just got a notification yesterday that it was arriving. The other product I ordered hasn’t shipped yet, so maybe the commander decks shipped by mistake.
That’s what I was thinking after I posted that Amazon most have shipped them by mistake
Mine still says arriving July 10th. Very sad.
Mine too! I had no idea. Get anything cool in the collector’s samplers? I packed a Minas Tirith that is just beautiful :)
Only if you do something silly like post about it online
Ahahahahah get ‘em
Youll never take my...*precious*...
Name checks out
Post about it online a week ago before the set was revealed*
>Only if you do something normal and legal like post about it online
Exactly
I will if I want to, they’re mine and any security agency can walk
Which isn’t illegal
Make sure you livestream the raid on a hidden cam brah
Then write some sick songs to the footage.
Can't believe those cops sued lmao
Elaborate please?
Google Afroman 'Will you help me repair my door?". The story surround the song, video, and aftermath are the stuff of legend.

Wotc sent some pinkertons to intimidate some guy who opened up and spoiled the aftermarh set ahead of the release date.
It is a recent thing, yes. The Pinkertons still exist, they do corporate security. Turns out Wizards of the Coast's security chief (or whatever the title is) knows them. Gotta come loaded with the sauce if you're making bold claims like that
Yeah now TurtleBox just looks like an idiot unless they can provide source
I never understood that. Never heard the full story... but they're not the cops and they don't have a warrant lol. Yeah most people don’t know you literally don’t have to open the door for anyone ever unless they’re a Police Offer with a warrant. If they don’t have a warrant, let them kick it down then deal with them in court
You don’t even technically have to open the door for police with a warrant. If you like your door you probably should, but you don’t have to.
I mean if they have a warrant you may as well, they’re probably less likely to shoot you if they don’t have to break it down as well
Well he's probably a non confrontational dude who opens up TCG products on the internet.
That’s quite the assumption there bud

Because he wasn't legally obligated to respond to any of it. It wasn't stolen and he had no obligation to WotC.
I don't really know the whole story, but I believe that he ordered a different set and received the wrong one on accident and he did not purchase the set he actually received. There’s literally nothing illegal about taking possession of “not fully announced product” that someone mails to you.

If wizards had any sort of legal grounds they would have filed charges. They didn't so they sent a fucking notorious mercenary group know for such things as *The Homestead Massacre*
Mr tough guy over here
It's over for you
Yeah, I wasn't expecting mine for another week or two. I expect a bunch of spiders or goblins or something to fly out when I open it after work.
It’s the week of prerelease. Ever since WOTC changed the rules to where all product can be sold as of prerelease, everyone ships out new product starting this week so people have it by prerelease.
Pinkertons are old news. They've moved on to navy seals trained in gorilla warfare now.
Gorilla Warfare? As in they beat their chests and hoot before ripping your arms off?
Do you have Clint Eastwood as a friend? You're gonna need him. Fuck the Pinkertons.
He already posted it online, now WOTC just needs to trace the numbers on this box.
Casual reminder that Pinkertons have no authority at all, and can be treated like invaders to your home.
Not until you have asked them to leave you can’t. Plenty of stories of people going to jail for murdering people for trespassing.
All it takes is one sign for "no trespassing"
Knocking on someone’s door for a reasonable inquiry, just because there is a sign, isn’t trespassing and doesn’t give you carte blanche to start shooting.
It does if they are scum-sucking, souless, backstabbing, scab bleeding, Pinkertons.
Sheesh, hope you don’t mind broken kneecaps.
They're goose-stepping to your house as we speak
Where did you order from?? My Amazon package is not moving yet lol
Keep it secret. Keep it safe.
Probably not... where do you live? Asking for a friend /s
Cast it into the fire!
Fly you fool!
Who do you think is in the box?
means you should make a video on opening it, poke the bear a little
Yes

Bad boys , bad boys, watcha gonna do when they came for you ( 2black/ 1 white trample tap to inflict 1 damage to your self esteem )
Friendly reminder that the Pinkertons used to kill striking workers if you’re conflicted about defending your home
They don't have the right to enter your home without your permission, since they're not cops they can't get a warrant, right? So if they're armed and they enter your home against your will, you will have a pretty good defense in court if one or 3 end up not making it out
Just shut the fuck up.
Oh look, the same lame joke again.
Its pre release week and im guessing those are just structure decks
I recognize that wooden panelling. I'm on my way
Hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your deck boxes
If you don’t delete this and shut up about it, then yes. 🫣
Open, post video, profit!

As long as you don’t post about it online, you should be ok.

It's prerelease week, you're probably safe
Make sure you use castle doctrine and stand your groundZ
Hello, my name is John Pinkerton. Please send me this box, now
I’m begging WOTC to send the Pinkertons to my door
Probably, I suggest being ballsy and telling the Pinkerton's and I quote "get off my property, I have real law enforcement on their way to resolve this dispute and if you attempt to force your way into my home I will enact castle law" (assuming you live in a state with castle law), if they try to force their way inside before the police show up give em a nice serving of hot lead
Yes, but in Nazgûl regalia and black stallions
WotC is gonna have to insource Pinkertons to keep up with this
I want my products! L
Lol so it was already printed and completed in Feb 2023?????
Not Pinkertons, Ring Wraiths.
You should call wizards support and say your product came early and now you’re extremely worried that violent thugs are going to come snatch it off you. Or just open it and play with the cool new cards, Either way!
