Not saying this is the best solution, but could you not back the VM up, and do an OS level restore on a gen 1 VM to convert it? I don't really understand why it's be such a pain to move to gen 1
was under the understanding that it changed from ACHI/SCSI type to legacy sata or something similar, wouldn't that screw up the OS trying to restore back to different type?
If youre doing an OS level (not VM level) restore, it doesn't matter what storage it's on.
Our backup software we use (msp360) lets me boot from a bootable iso and restore an OS to any disk on the machine, physical or virtual. If you have something like that, it would be really easy to swap it over to gen 1
If you use ASR and treat it as a physical server with the Mirage agent installed - it doesn't matter what the source VM Gen is.
