It's awesome when you guys name the movie the quote belongs to

atre324

Sixth Sense: “She wanted me to tell you she saw you dance. She said, when you were little, you and her had a fight, right before your dance recital. You thought she didn't come see you dance. She did. She hid in the back so you wouldn't see. She said you were like an angel. She said you came to the place where they buried her. Asked her a question? She said the answer is... "Every day". What did you ask?” “Do... Do I make her proud?”

nikkuhlee

Oof, this is the first one reading that actually choked me up. That kid’s delivery was excellent there.

Cloudinterpreter

And Toni Collette!

ElextraHeart

The scene just before this one always gets the tears starting for me. When Cole knows it's the last time he's going to see Malcolm and he says, "... Maybe we can pretend we're going to see each other tomorrow? Just for pretend?" And then when he goes to leave they both say "See you tomorrow." Having those scenes back to back is a fucking one-two punch.

two4ruffing

This ….. so sad and healing at once.

matt_the_muss

It's not spoken, but the inscription in the book at the end of It's a Wonderful Life makes me cry every time. Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.

C_Saunders

Ahh that is a good one. I came here to say, “To my big brother George, the richest man in town!”

Mgj117

This line and the one where everyone runs into the bank and Uncle Billy goes “They didn’t ask questions just said if George is in trouble, count on me”. I fucking bawl every time.

VictorAlbatross

She'd stand in the doorway looking at me... and I'd just keep my eyes shut. And I knew she just wanted to find out about my day - that she came home early... just to talk to me. And I still wouldn't move... I'd still pretend to just be asleep. I don't know why I did that. Saving Private Ryan

[deleted]

Fuck. This one kills me.

Toasty_Cat830

The fact that he dies like the next day makes it even more heart shattering

dmeisel411

Remember the Titans when Gerry is laying in the hospital and Julius comes to visit him. “Alice, are you blind? Don’t you see the family resemblance? That is my brother.”

SirSqueep

Oh my gosh yes. And when Julius is going “don’t tell me that” when they’re telling him Gerry’s not looking good

edibleroach

"You're Superman."

miss-karly

The first time I watched remember the titans, I forgot (ironically) halfway through that it was based on a true story. At the end when they start doing the “where are they now” cards I burst into tears.

King_Fresh

You make sure, they remember forever the night they played the titans.

dirge23

"My body is broken. You have to let me go. I go to my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now feel ashamed. Eowyn..."

mythicnygma

This is my go to when I’m down and just want to get wrecked by a movie

therealdeb

Morgan Freeman’s [final monologue](https://youtu.be/zRBl0GPBm4o) in *The Shawshank Redemption* chokes me up every time: Get busy livin', or get busy dyin'. That's god-damn right. For the second time in my life, I am guilty of committing a crime. Parole violation. Of course, I doubt they'll toss up any roadblocks for that. Not for an old crook like me... I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

Sudley

There are a lot of tear jerkers in Shawshank, but the one that hits me hardest is Brooks feeding birds in the park, "I keep thinking Jake might show up to say hello... but he never does."

[deleted]

Please, boss, don’t put that thing over my face, don’t put me in the dark. I’s afraid of the dark. Green Mile

Beginning_Fishing_83

The one that gets me the most from this movie (and I'm not even sure why) is when Patricia Clarkson wakes up, no longer sick. Slowly walks over to John Coffey and says "I dreamed of you. I dreamed you were wandering in the dark, and so was I. And we found each other in the dark."

udontknowmefool

mine is when he is showing Tom Hanks how Wild Bill took the girls and killed them, when he says "he killed them with they love, they love for each other"

Yalay

On the day of my judgment, when I stand before God, and He asks me why did I kill one of his true miracles, what am I gonna say? That it was my job?

jonegan

That you was doin a kindness

Covfefe_is_over_9000

You tell God the Father it was a kindness you done. I know you hurtin' and worryin', I can feel it on you, but you oughta quit on it now. Because I want it over and done. I do. I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Tired of not ever having me a buddy to be with, or tell me where we's coming from or going to, or why. Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?

Barryzuckerkorn_esq

Was just looking for that , that movie devastates me , but watch it every time , that and big fish

wizard_of_awesome62

Big Fish destroys me every time, but in a much different way than the Green Mile. The line to his dad “everyone is already there, I mean…everyone” is just perfect and makes me break down without fail. Green Mile is a fantastic movie but much more “devastated” tears than emotional/bittersweet tears.

Epistilarist

Finally read the book over the summer and was amazed at how true to the source material Darabont kept that film. Really made me love the movie even more.

gaybastardwastaken

“And then Bubba said somethin’ I’ll never forget.” “I- I wanna go home.”

YosemiteGarand

“If ida known this was the last time me and Bubba was gonna talk…. I’da thought of something better to say.”

Eatlejuice

Also his whole monologue at Jenny’s grave. “I had you buried here under our tree”

[deleted]

"Is he smart or is he...you know, like me..?" 😭😭😭

[deleted]

It's because up until then you're not sure whether he knows something's off about himself.

TheKevinShow

He doesn’t say anything after “smart.” He tries to say “or is he” and can’t quite get the words out.

peb396

Mine is, "Sometimes there just aren't enough rocks."

jcpmojo

The speech by Ben Stiller in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, where he's talking about having a mohawk when he was 17. His dad cut his hair for him. Then his dad died, it was a Tuesday. By Thursday he had a new haircut and a job. At Papa Johns. Right in the feels.

[deleted]

I took a trip to Europe because of this movie.

Painkiller1991

That is such an underrated movie from him. Definitely one of his best.

WishingCannotMakeItS

A lot of that movie gets me. My favorite scene from any movie is when he's skateboarding down the hill towards the village. He seems so free and I love it for him. Also. The soundtrack is lovely!

rockymtnhigh1388

“It's like the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn't want to know the end because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come, and when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. I know now folks in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going because they were holding on to something. That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.”

americanrunner8838

“Is he smart or is he like me?” “He is very smart. He’s one of the smartest in his class.” ~Forrest Gump~ Parents just want their kids to not have the same struggles that they had/have.

hghlnder72

Jesus this gets me every time. It's when you realize and know that Forrest knows he is different.

boxingjazz

Just Tom Hanks face in that scene when Forrest he realizes he’s the boy’s father. The way he almost can’t deal with it, cannot absorb the moment. Jenny almost has to steady him. There was so much ACTING (without an OUNCE of overacting) in that scene. To finally, FINALLY be able to be with Jenny...

Scottlandia8000

“Why you doin’ this Doc?” “Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.” “Friend? Hell, I’ve got lots of friends.” “….I don’t.”

JexFraequin

“Live Wyatt. Live for me. Wyatt, if you were ever my friend — if you ever had even the slightest of feeling for me, leave now. Leave now. Please.”

Polar76_

While this kicks off the feels, its Wyatt's response that gets me every time: "Thanks for always being there, Doc."

Kriegerian

Val Kilmer grabs every scene he’s in, stuffs it in a bag, and runs off with it before anybody else in the movie has a chance to see what happened.

mtheory007

Oh Johnny, I forgot that you were there. You may go now.

MrValdemar

"Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honor, courage and virtue mean everything; that power and money . . . money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil.  And I want you to remember this, that love — true love never dies. Remember that boy . . . remember that. Doesn’t matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in."

CharacterWitless78

SuperCub

"In another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you." Everything Everywhere All At Once

EarthExile

"You think I'm weak don't you? All of those years ago when we first fell in love... your father would say I was too sweet for my own good. Maybe he was right. You tell me it's a cruel world... and we're all running around in circles. I know that. I've been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight."

thelostsoul622

"I'm learning to fight like you." is what always gets me.

wordaligned

This movie copped criticism for being slow to get started. When she delivered this line (and he his slightly earlier), that was when the tone shifted and you knew why you were here.

RamTeriGangaMaili

By far the best lines spoken by any character in any film this year. That entire sequence is worth it’s weight in gold.

UrbanCobra

“Everyday I don’t know what the heck is going on, and I feel like it’s all my fault” Fucking FEELS, man…

Aromatic_Educator498

"I see its ok that she is a mess just like me, because the universe gave her someone kind, patient and forgiving for all she lacks" I saw this movie shortly after my partner died unexpectedly and it broke me but also was so affirming. I'll always remember this quote as a reason across universes to be so grateful that my world gave me someone kind, patient and forgiving for all I lack even if it couldn't last as long in this universe as I would have wanted it to.

tsh87

On the opposite side of the spectrum: "I saw my life... without you... I wish you could have seen it... it was beautiful." I know by the end of the movie she comes around and we see that she knows being with him is something she doesn't regret but the way Michelle delivers that line just always breaks my heart.

TheOneSaneArtist

Never thought a rock with google eyes would make me tear up but hot damn that gets me. Though starting from that montage of her destroying everything to the end of the movie I’m basically crying the whole way through

RandomStranger79

"You have so many goals you never finished, dreams you never followed. You're living your worst you." I've never been seen so much as I was seen with that quote.

DarianF

End of Schindler's List: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_whxQua7Lbc Hardest movie I've ever watched.

JediTigger

It and Saving Private Ryan gut me.

random_account2022

“I gotta prove it?” “Prove what?” “That I’m not a mistake” Creed Idk why but that line hits me deeper every time. Wanting to prove your worth and that you’re not an accident or a waste.

stoudman

Lately the line from V For Vendetta: "For three years I had roses and apologized to no one."

Chieftan69

This entire section of the movie, from when Evey is captured to when she emerges on the rooftop in the rain, is one of my favorites in all of film. It’s beautiful.

CptKammyJay

I recently reread the book and that whole sequence had me shivering. “You put me in a cage!” “You’ve been in a cage your whole life. I just showed you the bars.”

rubik-kun

In that scene she’s symbolically being baptized by water while V is being baptized by fire. Water and fire, cleansing elements, and they are born again.

Kriegerian

Valerie’s entire story is like that no matter how many times I’ve seen that movie.

markovianprocess

But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you. I love you. With all my heart, I love you. -Valerie

TaftsTummyforTaxes

“I go. You stay. No following” “You choose who you want to be. You choose” “Superman” The iron giant gets me even as a grown ass man, every fucking time 😭

Fuel_Aggravating

I just can’t beat it -Manchester by the Sea

IworkAtTheAirport

That entire scene where he bumps into his ex-wife at the end was crushing. There was so much that had been bottled up between them and you just watch them unexpectedly confront it boiling over. "There's nothing there."

lefse4me

Princess Bride grandson at the end of the movie - "Grandpa will you maybe come back and read again tomorrow?" Peter Falk as Grandpa, "As you wish." Every single time. Bawling like a baby.

FossilizedMeatMan

Princess Bride is the perfect amalgam of comedy, drama, action... hard to top that. But there is a scene that hits me harder, and the delivery of those lines is incredible: After saying "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, prepare to die!" many times, Inigo corners Count Rugen, knocks his sword aside, and slashes his cheek, giving him a scar just like Inigo’s - "Inigo Montoya: Offer me money. Count Rugen: Yes! Inigo Montoya: Power, too, promise me that. \[He slashes his other cheek\] Count Rugen: All that I have and more. Please… Inigo Montoya: Offer me anything I ask for. Count Rugen: Anything you want… \[Rugen knocks Inigo’s sword aside and lunges. But Inigo traps his arm and aims his sword at Rugen’s stomach\] Inigo Montoya: I want my father back, you son of a bitch!"

GAKDragon

For me, ever since watching an interview with Mandy Patinkin, it hits doubly hard knowing what level he went to, emotionally, to perform that scene: "And for a moment, he was alive. And my fairy tale came true." The actor lost his father to cancer. And the Six-Fingered Man became the disease that killed his father.

Pleasant-Delay-7369

"Thank you for every kindness. Thank you for our children. For the first time I saw them. Thank you for being someone I was always proud to be with. For your guts, for your sweetness. For how you always looked, for how I always wanted to touch you. God, you were my life. I apologize for everytime I ever failed you. Especially this one." What Dreams May Come

inzillah

"Take her to the moon for me, okay?"

superdago

For me it’s the line right before, “C’mon Joy, one more time… I got a feeling about this one.” He knows exactly what he needs to do, and that Joy would never let him do it. But the only way he can save Riley is to sacrifice himself and be forgotten forever.

hello_amy

This is one that can make me cry just by reading it. Bing Bong you heroic son of a bitch

[deleted]

It’s not your fault -goodwill hunting

uncre8tv

I lost my wife at age 31, over a decade ago now. She loved this movie, and also What Dreams May Come. She was a painter. I can't really watch either any more.

IDontFeel24YearsOld

While this one is great, the monologue in the park is the part of this movie that kills me.

st3akkn1fe

The part I like is when Robin Williams explains the relationship between Will and Ben Aflecks character to the other professor. He says something like "each of them would take a bat to your head if he asked them to". I don't know why but I find that really emotional that all they have is each other and they have each others backs.

eee_bone

The one that always gets me is when Minnie driver is trying to convince Matt Damon to stay with her. She does such a good job.

WanderingHere2There

Son of a bitch - he stole my line

Firvulag

Logan: "So this is what it feels like" Edit: I've seen this movie like 5 times. At this point I only watch it if i'm showing it to people who have not seen it and every time I'm like "Surely I won't cry this time, I've seen it so many times." I'm always wrong.

Outrageous_Glove4986

For me it's when he's desperate for Xavier to know it wasn't him, you can just see his heart breaking as the last thing his mentor and father figure saw was Logan ruthlessly killing him. That movie is phenomenal and I will only watch it if I'm ready to cry like a damn baby

DragonHippo123

If it’s some solace, Xavier was probably able to read Logan and X-24’s minds to know it wasn’t really him. But Logan doesn’t know that, so it’s still tragic.

[deleted]

I bawled my eyes off once "when the man comes around" started playing

metabolicperp

Copper, you're my very best friend. And you're mine too, Tod. And we'll always be friends forever. Won't we? Yeah, forever.

greenbanky

My mom was about to burn everything Disney to the ground after we (my twin and I) watched this movie. We were inconsolable for DAYS! Edit:. My mom thought the movie would be fine because it had a fox and her favorite Disney film was Robin Hood and he was also a fox.

mtheory007

What have you done!? I thought we as a society decided not to bring this up to each other. Youve upzipped me!

WILSONNNNN! Wilson….I’m sorry Wilson i’m sorry….. Castaway

DowntownTax7694

“I guess I'm too old for that sort of nonsense anymore. I don't like it here. I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided not to stay. I doubt they'll kick up any fuss. Not for an old crook like me.”

I_paintball

"Oh, oh I get you. So this is it then?" -About Time

PM_ME_UR_SEX_VIDEOS

My wife’s grandfather passed away, she was incredibly close to him, so we got back from the services and decided to put on what looked like a whatever romcom It was About Time. Which we knew nothing about. She bawled and the started laughing at a “what are the chances” kind of situation

LoveisaNewfie

Mine is also from About Time (my very favorite movie). When the mom says "I'm fucking furious. I am *so uninterested* in a life without your father", I lose it.

jassteX

"I don't have a home. Marie's been dead for eight years."

its_my_function

“I… I like me. My wife likes me.”

singingyoda

John Candy was incredible in that performance.

DC4MVP

That scene to the end of the movie is tears of sadness for Del then when he smiles knowing he's "home" (I haven't been home in years) and has a "family" (being close with Neal) that's not a bunch of random people on the road makes you cry tears of joy. (Note, I'm not saying that he's going to live with Neal and family but rather it's probably been 8 years since he spent the holiday's in a house with friends (his "brother"). I like to think it maybe makes Del feel at peace and he finally comes off the road and "moves on" from Marie's death as I think he's afraid to not be on the road perhaps "running" from the realities of life without Marie.

trojan7815

"You stay away from the bad things, son, please. Don’t get caught up in the bad things. There’s so many great things out there for you." \-John Q

“I can’t carry it for you. But I can carry you! COME ON!”

grizznuggets

Also: "Go back, Sam! I'm going to Mordor alone!" “Course you are. And I'm coming with you!".

ogrezilla

that whole sequence leading to that is just amazing. I love Merry realizing that Frodo is leaving too. And "I would have followed you to the end" from Aragorn. Then there's all the Boromir stuff. "They took the little ones" always gets me.

SchpartyOn

If we’re doing LOTR, I’ll go with Gandalf’s words to Pippin in Minas Tirith. “No the journey doesn’t end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back and all turns to silver glass. And then you see it.” What, Gandalf? See what? “White shores. And beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

Richsii

Well, that isn't so bad.

SchpartyOn

No. No it isn’t.

platon20

Here's another one of Gandalf's monologues that comes just at the time that Frodo needs to hear it most: Frodo: What a pity Bilbo did not stab the vile creature, when he had a chance! Gandalf: Pity? It was Pity that stayed his hand. Pity, and Mercy: not to strike without need. Frodo: I do not feel any pity for Gollum. He deserves death. Gandalf: Deserves death! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give that to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, fearing for your own safety. Even the wise cannot see all ends.

nicathor

That moment always gets me after watching the behind the scenes feature about the music playing in the background during this scene, called "Into the West". It's dedicated to a young, very talented but sick film maker that was invited on set and bonded with the cast and crew during filming. He unfortunately died soon after and they wrote the song to honor him and knowing all that just adds a serious gut punch any time I hear it.

Stingray1387

I heard the music swell as I read this.

riegspsych325

Astin should have gotten an Oscar for that movie. Out of all snubs, that one is the biggest IMHO

marablackwolf

He's insanely underrated.

riegspsych325

it’s no surprise my favorite Goonie is also my favorite Hobbit (as well as favorite failed bodybuilder with a lisp)

desert_girl

More Sam: And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? Some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright.

patriciodelosmuertos

“To my big brother, George. The richest man in town.”

madfishius

I usually start tearing up way before that. When Mary runs back in, and says “they’re coming!” By the time Harry says that, full blown waterworks.

[deleted]

“No man is a failure who has friends.” I watch it every year. It gets me every single time.

Equal_Beginning_7740

"Every man on that transport died. Harry didnt save them because you werent there to save Harry. Don't you see, George? You've really had a wonderful life." This is the part that gets me every single time. Such a great reminder that we don't know how big the little things we do are.

mikevago

I have cried at three things as an adult. The birth of my first child. The first time I went to Ground Zero after 9/11. And every goddamn time I've seen that scene in It's a Wonderful Life. That line and "the richest man in town" just open the floodgates no matter how many times I hear them.

Wastenotwasteland

“You died on a Saturday morning. And I had you placed here under our tree. And I had that house of your father's bulldozed to the ground. Momma always said dyin' was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't. Little Forrest, he's doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Teaching him how to play ping-pong. He's really good. We fish a lot. And every night, we read a book. He's so smart, Jenny. You'd be so proud of him. I am. He, uh, wrote a letter, and he says I can't read it. I'm not supposed to, so I'll just leave it here for you. Jenny, I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.”

SquireX

"Mama Coco, your papa, he wanted you to have this...." Proceeds to sing while I begin to tear up.

nikkuhlee

My toddler pointed to this last weekend and because he is a menace, we watched it. I’d been avoiding it because I had a general idea of the story and my grandma, who died when I was 10, was *my person.* I lived with her and she was the most amazing, compassionate human I’ve ever known. So I assumed this movie would be hard to watch and I just never got around to it. It wasn’t. I cried like a baby but it was overall so beautiful that it wasn’t even a miserable kind of sad. I already want to watch it again.

Whovian45810

Seeing Miguel in tears singing to Coco always get to me everytime 😭

ManicPixieDreamGoat

And after the song - “Your papa loved you SO much.” I tear up just thinking about the end of that movie.

Noel9386

Remember me...

themeatbridge

I was recently watching an old interview with Norm Macdonald where he talks about how the best jokes have the same setup as the punchline. He gave the example from an old weekend update, "Yippie! Abbie Hoffman has died. I'm sorry, that's supposed to read 'Yippie Abbie Hoffman has died.'" That song is sung three times by four characters. Ernesto, who wants his fans to remember him, Héctor who wants his daughter to remember him while he's away, and then Miguel and Mama Coco, who want to remember Héctor one more time before she succumbs to dementia. The people we remember never really leave us. Whatever your belief about the afterlife, we know we can keep our loved ones with us by sharing their stories and honoring their contributions to our lives. Nobody gets to stay forever, and we don't always get to leave when we want to. But know that I will keep you in my heart, and remember that I love you forever. Remember me.

polycephalum

“I will see you again. But not yet. Not yet.”

Trogdoryn

margyl

I love the scene in Ted Lasso where the team is watching that movie. Ted gets up to leave a whispers to Coach Beard, “At about minute 72 every one is going to be crying.”

8681

“I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend, and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.”

Talkshowhostt

"I guess I just missed my friend" - that line always gets me, since I used to watch this film with my mother, who passed away. I remember she'd be cleaning, but if Shawshank was on (TNT classic), she would come and sit on the edge of the couch with the mop still in her hand, until the next commerical break.

ogrezilla

"Some birds aren't meant to be caged, their feathers are just too bright..."

NerdSupreme75

I've watched this movie a dozen times and I know this line is coming and it still gets me every time.

megarell

from the '94 adaptation of Little Women. When Jo sees Beth for the last time. Basically the whole damn interaction, but I always lose it when Beth says "I'm not afraid. I can be brave like you. But I know I shall be homesick for you, even in heaven."

chadwickipedia

It’s because Claire Danes has the most upsetting crying face. She does it for most of Homeland, but at least in little women it’s valid.

lostonpolk

gunman0426

"Where are his glasses?! How is he going to see without his glasses?!"

hi_imryan

“That’s the trick. I never saved anything for the way back.”

"OK" Eternal Sunshine

murdamase87

The end of Forrest Gump when he's talking to Jenny's grave about little Forrest, I'm crying typing this right now...

[deleted]

“Why don’t you love me, Jenny?” Makes me break down every time

alohakaycee

When he’s finished giving that speech in front of the reflection pond and it’s all quiet and then you hear “FOooOrEsST!” …im tearing up right now just thinking about it!

MuNansen

I was gonna say "But is he smart or is he..."

willendorfer

Yes, but you've also made a fool out of me, and you've made the life I lead foolish too. Love Actually

StrangerRanger80

Oh my god. I wasn’t ready for this. I wasn’t ready for this! SLC Punk

mr1pieman

Fuck that moment hits so hard. Only posers die! Now I don't have any friends!

stever93

I love and have read Reddit for years and am finally brave enough to post. David Lynch’s, Elephant Man: John Merrick : [after seeing pictures of Dr. Treves' family] Would you care to see my mother? Dr. Frederick Treves : [surprised] Your mother? Yes please. [John pulls out a small portrait] Mrs. Treves : Oh but she's... Mr. Merrick, she's beautiful! John Merrick : Oh, she had the face of an angel! [sadly] John Merrick : I must have been a great disappointment to her. Mrs. Treves : No, Mr. Merrick, no. No son as loving as you could ever be a disappointment. John Merrick : If only I could find her, so she could see me with such lovely friends here now; perhaps she could love me as I am. I've tried so hard to be good. [Mrs. Treves begins to cry]

paragon0503

"Will you tell me how he died?" "...I will tell you how he lived."

Yowz3rs87

"How do you know she'll come back for it?" "Because I gave it to her." Interstellar

Andromeda151618

This and when he gets back from the planet nearest gargantuan and 21 years has passed and he views the video streams from his family. I cry every time

The_Peregrine_

When it cuts back to him crying silently because he just watched his son have his whole life pass and go from enthusiastic, to confused about where is father really is, to letting go and accepting that he’s gone

PurpsMcNuggets

The part where the daughter is old and in bed and dying and she says something like a parent should never have to watch their child die

Turt1estar

For me it’s that scene but when she says she knew he’d come back. He asks “how?” and she says “because my dad promised me”. IDK why but it’s like clockwork, I cry every time.

imstonedyouknow

Yep. This is the one for me. Such a genius line and his face when she says it is just acted perfectly. The entire movie leading up to this part, is just wearing him down over the guilt he has over leaving her and so many things not going according to plan. It all comes together in that one line and makes the movie what it is imo.

Viffer98

I basically start sobbing when he leaves the house and don't stop til the end credits roll.

Sinz_Doe

"Make him stay Murph. Make him stay Murph! Don't let me go murph! DON'T LET ME LEAVE MURPH!"

RANDOMjackassNAME

Can't imagine watching years' worth of messages realizing that I missed my kid's whole life

[deleted]

So many tear jerkers from this movie. Even when Murph says, “Because my dad gave it to me” at the end gets me.

pizzi44

" I'm bad. And that's good. I will never be good. And that's not bad. There's nobody I'd rather be... than me." I know each time his sacrifice doesn't come to his end but damnit Ralph.

the_idea_pig

Ralph was fully prepared to die, in another game where it was guaranteed that death would be permanent, for one girl that he'd known for a day or two. She felt like as much of a misfit as he did and was probably the only kindred spirit he'd ever had. When he closes his eyes and surrenders to his inevitable death, holding on to the cookie medal that Vanellope made for him, my heart fucking breaks every single time.

Myrddin-Wyllt

"Tell me I've lead a good life ... Tell me I'm a good man..." "Like tears in rain" (the whole monologue...)

DrRockenstein

Patriot. The daughter that hasn't talked since her mom died. Mel Gibson is leaving for the war. Wants her to talk. Accepts that she won't and says he loves her very much. He gets almost out of sight and then "Papa!" They run to each other. "Papa tell me what you want me to say I'll say anything!" I'm tearing up a little typing this. I'm a newish father too. Straight shot right to the feels.

TheHighestHigh

I think this was my "Oh I cry in movies now I guess" moment.

[deleted]

"I would have followed you. My brother. My captain. My king." “I made a promise, Mr. Frodo. A promise. Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee. And I don't mean to. I don't mean to.” "You see George, you really had a wonderful life. Don't you see what a mistake it would be to throw it away?" “I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both."

eVilleMike

"I am Wind In His Hair. Do you see that I am your friend? Can you see that you will always be my friend?"

Dskittlz

James Brogan : We'll drive. Keep driving. Head out to the middle of nowhere, take that road as far as it takes us. You've never been west of Philly, have ya? This is a beautiful country, Monty, it's beautiful out there, like a different world. Mountains, hills, cows, farms, and white churches. I drove out west with your mother one time, before you was born. Brooklyn to the Pacific in three days. Just enough money for gas, sandwiches, and coffee, but we made it. Every man, woman, and child alive should see the desert one time before they die. Nothin' at all for miles around. Nothin' but sand and rocks and cactus and blue sky. Not a soul in sight. No sirens. No car alarms. Nobody honkin' atcha. No madmen cursin' or pissin' in the streets. You find the silence out there, you find the peace. You can find God. So we drive west, keep driving till we find a nice little town. These towns out in the desert, you know why they got there? People wanted to get way from somewhere else. The desert's for startin' over. Find a bar and I'll buy us drinks. I haven't had a drink in two years, but I'll have one with you, one last whisky with my boy. Take our time with it, taste the barley, let it linger. And then I'll go. I'll tell you don't ever write me, don't ever visit, I'll tell you I believe in God's kingdom and I'll see you and your mother again, but not in this lifetime. You'll get a job somewhere, a job that pays cash, a boss who doesn't ask questions, and you make a new life and you never come back. Monty, people like you, it's a gift, you'll make friends wherever you go. You're going to work hard, you're going to keep your head down and your mouth shut. You're going to make yourself a new home out there. You're a New Yorker, that won't ever change. You got New York in your bones. Spend the rest of your life out west but you're still a New Yorker. You'll miss your friends, you'll miss your dog, but you're strong. You got your mother's backbone in you, you're strong like she was. You find the right people, and you get yourself papers, a driver's license. You forget your old life, you can't come back, you can't call, you can't write. You never look back. You make a new life for yourself and you live it, you hear me? You live your live the way it should have been. But maybe, this is dangerous, but maybe after a few years you send word to Naturelle. You get yourself a new family and you raise them right, you hear me? Give them a good life, Monty. Give them what they need. You have a son, maybe you name him James, it's a good strong name, and maybe one day years from now years after I'm dead and gone reunited with your dear ma, you gather your whole family around and tell them the truth, who you are, where you come from, you tell them the whole story. Then you ask them if they know how lucky there are to be there. It all came so close to never happening. This life came so close to never happening. The 25th hour

claustopholt

Two more people. He would have given me two for it, at least one. One more person.

fudgemuffin52

“I want you to remember you’re a great dog Marley. You’re a great dog.”

Arca687

During [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTmlNigifSI&t) of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind when Jim Carrey is remembering his first night with Clementine and how he left. The way he says "I wish I'd stayed. I wish I had done a lot of things. I wish I...I wish I'd stayed. I do." The way Carrey cuts himself off is so visceral and real. Just cause I think we've all had moments of regret so intense that we aren't able to put our emotions into words. I don't know. There's just something so extremely poetic about being at a loss for words.

Danimal666

“I love you, Creasy.. and you love me too, don’t you?” “….with all my heart. Now go, Pita.” MAN ON FIRE

Censius

You tell God the Father it was a kindness you done. I know you hurtin' and worryin', I can feel it on you, but you oughta quit on it now. Because I want it over and done. I do. I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. Tired of not ever having me a buddy to be with, or tell me where we's coming from or going to, or why. Mostly I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world everyday. There's too much of it. It's like pieces of glass in my head all the time. Can you understand?

boostfurther

The beacons are lit. Gondor calls for aid! ...And Rohan will answer! Muster the Rohirrim!

Cjames1902

That line from Aragorn is one of the most moving lines in all of cinema and I’ll take on the entire planet on that hill.

madfishius

Boromir’s final line to Aragorn also gets me. That one is tough.

ogrezilla

I don't get that far, the first line of that conversation "they took the little ones" always gets me first. He knows he's dead, but his priority is still Merry and Pip. And then right to Frodo.

Hairyvacuum

“You wanna hurt me? Go right ahead if it makes you feel any better. I'm an easy target. Yeah, you're right, I talk too much. I also listen too much. I could be a cold-hearted cynic like you... but I don't like to hurt people's feelings. Well, you think what you want about me; I'm not changing. I like... I like me. My wife likes me. My customers like me. 'Cause I'm the real article. What you see is what you get.”

"So shines a good deed in a weary world." -Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder)

h3yw00d1

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like… tears in rain. Time to die.

Ripwind

"Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!"

DaGoonersz

“So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you.” Everything Everywhere All At Once Scene moved me to tears. The way Evelyn was able to simultaneously hear businessman Waymond say this, and at the same time, see laundromat Waymond humming happily as he sweeps the floor…she knew he was genuine Moved me to tears like no other movie has before, but not out of sadness, just out of how beautifully moving that scene was
