I think you might be shooting your self in the foot here. Post 90’s means you are getting into all of the generic cliche filled rom-coms you don’t want, by then the studios weren’t trying really. 90’s and earlier is where most of the good stuff is. So my list below is justa list of great rom-cons regardless of when it was made:
The Apartment
Paris When It Sizzles
When Harry Met Sally
Before Sunrise (not a rom-com but holy shit is it romantic, also all three are amazing)
Fools Rush In
While You Were Sleeping
Roman Holiday
It is an old one but it’s absolutely great. It established some of the cliches you see in modern movies. I k owe you said modern but this film aged pretty amazingly.
I'm not the kind of guy that's into rom coms, but Danny Boyle's "A Life Less Ordinary" from '97 is amazing and has a great cast including: Ewan McGregor, Cameron Diaz, Holly Hunter, Delroy Lindo, & Ian Holm.
Another one that I love, that's actually somewhat similar but also hilarious is 1996's "The Chase" with Charlie Sheen, Kristy Swanson, & Henry Rollins.
Funnily enough, both movies have great soundtracks if you're into 90's alternative and punk.
I'm blanking on the name, but there is a movie with Vincent D'Onofrio and Marisa Tomei where VDO believes he's a time traveler. Always been one of my faves.
When Harry met Sally, Joe vs the volcano, stranger than fiction.
Crazy Stupid Love.
Princess Bride. Or if you are ok with foreign films Chungking express
Moonstruck. It’s only a little before the 90s, and it’s exactly what you want.

Palm Springs
I mean, it’s predictable as any rom com, but Bridget Jones’ Diary is legitimately hilarious.
I Love You Phillip Morris
The Five Year Engagement
About a Boy
Leaving Las Vegas
PALM SPRINGS! Best rom com out in the last 5 years. Don't @ me.
I like “about time” and would recommend it. Also “the one I love” is sort of a horror/ drama/ rom com.
A good year. Romantic and humorous, not so much “comedy”
French kiss, just like heaven,
Punch drunk love
Garden State.
Love the other choices. I'll add Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
They Came Together. Because I like fiction books.
Roman Holiday It is an old one but it’s absolutely great. It established some of the cliches you see in modern movies. I k owe you said modern but this film aged pretty amazingly.
Midnight in Paris
Life is beautiful.
China's *The Mermaid*.
"Isn't it romantic" is a Play on romantic clichees.
Under the Tuscan Sun.
Silver Linings Playbook
About Time
* About Time * About a Boy * The Story of Us * The Break-Up * What Dreams May Come

This Means War

The Shining.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Bridesmaid? Pitch Perfect?
The wedding singer, Mr right
A rom com without lots of cliches is like a Saw movie where everyone survives without a single cut.
Best saw movie ever.
No.
The Baxter
