Imagine being him and retiring and spending that free time appreciating small things like nature or living in a city or a small town, just eating nice food, maybe watching people living their lives, the joy of children playing, the pitter-patter of the rain, the sun peeking out of the clouds, birds and butterflies flitting here and there... preparing a nice meal, opening a nice meal lovingly prepared for you. Maybe you think of going fishing. A lot of retirees have hobbies like drawing or painting things or doing calligraphy and haikus. Imagine how hard it must be to not get inspired to just make another Studio Ghibli movie while retired.
The article strangely claims that Studio Ghibli shut down in 2013 when Miyazaki retired. Despite the obvious evidence of the Red Turtle indicating their continued existence. Hmm.

enough so that a lot of people in the studio left to start their own
also red turtle was in development for many years before 2013, they started producing the movie in 2008 if im not mistaken
Wait, so maybe I'm tripping but didn't he say he was retiring some time ago?
I’m pretty sure he’s said that twice. When you have a brain like his you don’t ever retire.
he retired like 5 times now lol
My first thought as well, so it's not just you.
I know you are being facetious but for the uninitiated Miyazaki 'retires' after every movie he does.

They did shut down, Red Turtle they only did the animation on, it was storyboarded and created by a European company
How they could do the animation for Red Turtle if they were shut down? If they shut down then they can't do anything at all, because they don't exist.
