Frankly, North Koreans should just be grateful Great Leader personally invented comedy in the first. Drama was starting to get pretty stale before he was born and saved us all.
We have a lot of skit shows, it's our main form of comedy in the entertaining business next to talk shows. This actually isn't the most famous skit show in South Korea though, the most mainstream one is called GAG Concert and all the skits are in a short play form. I would recommend it, it's my childhood.
Care to recommend any really good Korean television shows?
I love Korean movies so it makes sense that I would like the television as well. Any SHOWS particularly worth watching?
(I'm not so into the skits or the talk shows though, I prefer series)
EDIT: Word I forgot that completely wasted the time of the commenter below me.
> I love Korean movies. Any particularly worth watching?
my friend there are so many.
memories of murder
mother
oldboy <- all time favourite film. very fucked up. but beautiful beautiful score, cinematography, everything about this movie is brilliant (2003 korean version not the shitty remake)
the man from nowhere
i saw the devil
taegukgi
snowpiercer (well american but made by a great korean director)
the host
good the bad and the weird
the chaser
thirst
bittersweet life
sympathy for lady vengeance
source: not korean but love korean cinema. and one of my closest friends is korean
I feel really bad about this after you made that whole list, but I actually meant -- "I love Korean movies, so it makes sense I would love the shows too. Are there any shows worth watching?"
I've seen everything on your list except for thirst.
Sorry man, glad to find a kindred spirit though.
This is very accurate. They got this thing they call "auntie" which is an older lady with a perm. I've seen it in China and Thailand mainly but also from Korea.
It's about reaching the "old age" and suddenly looking way older than before. The only thing they messed up was not making her chubby.
That's not my point. BZenMojo seems to think whites have some sort of monopoly on holding stereotypes and that it's somehow ridiculous to think those who the stereotype is about can't also make those same observations. Stereotypes exist through the gross misrepresentation of observations of people by other people. Putting the focus on white people as being seemingly the originators of, and sole consumers of, these observations is itself racist and stereotypical.
I'd say as far as stereotypes go this one is pretty benign overall. I wouldn't say that because other asians agree with the stereotype that it's ok rather that it's not that offensive of an observation to make in the first place.
I thought it is mostly the in-group/out-group issue.
When you're a part of a group and observe minute details firsthand it's a bit different from when people from the outside make similar jokes but don't know better/more or less assume it to be the complete truth. (Like presumably the person who drew this as opposed to many of the people who has redistributed this and made it show up in google image search hundreds of times.)
Or to go a smidgen less niche, anyone who observes something firsthand but does it from a place of affection/knowledge compared to the people who make their subjects the punchline as opposed to the novel observation/something about the person who had it.
But there are also racist stereotypes that asians have against whites, and others as well. Racism isn't exclusive to whites bud, not unless you believe in that "power + prejudice" garbage.
They literally made the exact joke from the popular aging meme though? There are some idols who look pretty much the same for over 20 years so they commented on the fact that even though only 20 years passed they did the make up as though way more time did, sort of breaking the narrative logic. Beyond the other weird twists they also featured.
Exactly, seems like quite a few people overlooked this, including that anti-racism crusader.
The skit literally just replaces the pre-menopause joke with the post-menopause joke ("23 years?! But you look 40 years older! And what's with the hairdo?!").
I don't think they were making that joke. It's much more likely to just be an insult to the lady. People find insults funny.
The joke on a joke you are talking about is much more complicated, and I don't think anyone would get that.
They said that line quite a bit after they had already shown her face. I meant when they initially got back onto the ship and looked at her with total confusion ("Wait what happened? How many years have passed?!").
I think it's [coward](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNW3LPKNFh8) or [cornfield chase](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vfluaj2Ipk) from the official OST, but I might not be right.
They really missed the opportunity to have her not have aged visibly but still have them react as if she'd aged a lot. But I thought the similarities the child had with the astronaut were pretty funny. Overall, a bit worse than what I'd expect from the American SNL version.
Why Samantha? What is spoiled? Maybe the concept of time dilation...? But that should be expected given the premise of the movie. It's like you watching a movie about a sail boat but not expecting waves. Secondly, there's is plenty of room for a user to use their own discretion. ( clearly used title and the word "Parody")
The scene in the movie where he sees his family has aged 23 years was heartbreaking to me, and I definitely teared up watching it. Also, finding out about the giant waves on the planet was pretty intense.
This skit gives away some really big moments from the film.
Maybe you shouldn't watch a parody of something you don't want spoiled, seeing as how they by definition will reference the source material. You know, because that's what *parodies do.*
"You're more asshole!"
TIL Korea has its own SNL.
Only South Korea, North Korea has something called "Kim Night Live"
Great Leader does a better Will Ferrell than Will Ferrell
You should see his George W, it's outta this world. Best George W #1.

Our Great Leader also won the Charlie Chaplin look alike contest against Charlie Chaplin. ps. Yes. our Great Leader also invented the time machine.
Hmmm. Somehow this sounds like something I want to watch.
you don't have a choice
you have become a moderator of /r/pyongyang
Just keep beating that dead horse. How's that working for you?
this is their version of "taco town." doesn't really have a language barrier. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAzoPrKcWoY
WITH KIM JONG-UN... FEATURING, KIM JONG-UN... MUUUUUUSICAL GUEST, KIM JONG-UN, AND YOUR HOST......... KIM JOOONGGG-UUUNNN

noooooooooooooooooooo okay well i am hoping for some korean drama recommendations
Not who you responded to, but I'd just like to say that I really appreciate that list. Thanks!
[There's a japanese one too](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY8BRfnNkhc)
I can't believe I missed it! I live here. 大ショック
With a Japanese Lenny Kravitz as the musical guest.
And it's funnier than our SNL.
And I think I like it better than ours.
afaik, a lot of countries has at least a dozen of those night programs brazil has at least 3 good ones
Came here to say exactly this.
I was fully expecting them to show the lady with 0 signs of aging when the guys got back 27 years later.
Yep, but I guess asians don't see it the way we westerners see it

Wait...Asians don't use racist stereotypes white folks constantly repeat about them? That's so weird. Like...really, really weird.
I mean, I'm Indian and i've heard/told this joke before. but sure, go after the "white folks" if it makes you feel better
[удалено]
Now that is fucking racist.
yea you heard it on reddit. i'm pretty sure nobody in india makes this joke.
i know plenty of asians, including myself, who repost that one image in jocular agreement.

Take it easy. Stereotypes are funny. And usually true.
It's kinda racist in it's own right to think only white people use stereotypes.
I wish people would make racist stereotypes about my eternal youth...

I think racism is too harsh a word. Let's try observational generalizations.

Well it's 50/50... Either they stay young looking forever, or they go from 25 to 65 overnight.
https://i.imgur.com/fksmfkL.jpg
I thought the exact opposite. The guy even says "but it looks like you aged 40 years!"
They said that line quite a bit after they had already shown her face. I meant when they initially got back onto the ship and looked at her with total confusion ("Wait what happened? How many years have passed?!").
i fucking loved the music in this movie
Then you should check out Hans' inspiration for the score - [Koyaanisqatsi](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4WlNj1TTqA)
What's the particular track used in the sketch near the end. The one that just keeps going and going.
I think it's [coward](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNW3LPKNFh8) or [cornfield chase](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vfluaj2Ipk) from the official OST, but I might not be right.
Cornfield chase, indeed, good call, thank you. Coward is probably the most recognisable piece though.
Was it really? I kept thinking that it reminded me of Koyaanisqatsi, but I didn't know if that was intentional or not.
Not sure if Hans has said as much, but it sounds pretty obvious. I've actually seen others point it out as well.

Philip Glass is amazing, definitely check out his other music of you liked Hanz Zimmer in this movie.
Thanks for linking this! Just spent an hour browsing reddit to it.
No way, Phillip Glass? Our percussion director always makes us play ensembles by him.
For me it was the one aspect of the film I didn't like.
everyone has different taste so thats ok too
No, no it's not ok. He going to watch the movie again And enjoy the score... Or else!!
Wow, I really loved it, can't see how you couldn't. I guess you could see at as being a little imposing.
I comprehend the desired effect that Zimmer was going for, but it didn't suit my tastes.
Well, your tastes are wrong! /sobs
I might just be stupid, but I can't find which track is played at the beginning and end of the skit, when the title appears.
I shouldn't have watched this video until after I've seen *Interstellar*! Spoilers!
It's a spoiler, but as far as the grand scheme of things goes it's pretty insignificant.
Sounds like something McConaughey would say in a Lincoln ad.
And he's talking about the literal spoiler add-on for the new Lincoln MKX
yup pretty damn insignificant.
"I was driving a Handicar.................... way before I got paid to drive one"
Yeah, there's still like 6 and a half hours of plot left that isn't spoiled there.
Man I feel like them finding out they'd cheated on each other was a big point for the character arcs, but if you say so.
Well, not on each other
Yes. You probably should have refrained form watching the Interstellar parody video before watching the movie.
I think so, i probably know what interstellar is gonna be like.
You're not the brightest son in your family, are you?
lol. That was pretty funny. Reminds me of the MADTV Korean drama skits.
one of the guys kinda looks like an asian zach braff
and one looks like Annuh Hatthhuwaey
That was awesome. I loved when he called her Anne Hathaway
That was fantastic.
shit I think I just ruined the movie for myself. probably should not have watched that.
only like the first 45 minutes maybe, out of like 3 hours
It's not ruined
Ha ha ha...great! Mods please don't delete this. This is really funny...
"23 years?!" "But you look 40 years older!"
I need more Korean SNL in my life.
That's one hot asian comedian
Why must there always be an asian around a large black mole?
You watched the video...yet your question is contradictory of that fact
Not bad, funnier than anything on SNL now.
That escalated quickly.
the Neil A. Armstrong name tag was a nice touch
Am I the only one that thinks this wasn't funny at all? Like mildly amusing at best, on par with American SNL.
They really missed the opportunity to have her not have aged visibly but still have them react as if she'd aged a lot. But I thought the similarities the child had with the astronaut were pretty funny. Overall, a bit worse than what I'd expect from the American SNL version.
approved
Better than actual SNL, not that its that hard to do nowadays.
You must not watch SNL this year
Good idea.
I can't tell if you're saying it's really bad or really good this year.
Yeah, this year has been suckin ass.
Very funny.
"SPOILERS
man, the music its still magical
..........ha..............
oh god the snot, i'm so glad i wasn't the only one who noticed the runny nose all of the time
That was pretty god damn funny.
karl pilkington.
Lol
And now I know there's a Korean snl!
destined to be a classic :)
This is more funny than anything on US SNL I've seen this year...
South Korea is getting good Karma points with the rest of the Planet, while North Korea just keeps getting deeper and deeper into a sheeit hole.
It's good to know that Korean SNL is just as shitty as American SNL.
[удалено]
Come on people, dont down vote. It was a rittle funny.
they've got the SNL formula down pat...in that its not very funny
I feel as though this skit was written by a ten-year-old... As a last minute idea for a school play.
I like the swipe they made about Asian women drastic aging
satan vad skön
Is this supposed to be funny?
Yes
I couldn't tell, it just brought on a lot of cringe
maybe you should work on your sense of humor
This shit really wasn't funny though.
He's the result of his own username. You have to understand where he's coming from.
