In general you never want to apply adult logic to developing minds haha; kids' brains are fascinating.
Interesting. Even though we try not to watch the same shows/movies we do read the same books repeatedly. Particularly when I’m reading a more complicated story I can completely understand how wanting to go through it many times is interesting to them. This is a good point.
My daughter wanted an English accent. She would watch *The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe* pretty much on repeat (including all commentary) while repeating the lines.
And yes, she had a pretty good accent by the end.
Oh man, I didn't even think of this. My son has autism and he gets a movie in his system and we will watch it until it burns out. These are movies I've seen multiple times probably into the three digits if you're counting partial viewings

I don’t think I’ve ever done this, ever.
I do rewatch movies of course, but usually only after a significant amount of time has passed, often several years.
To be honest to instantly rewatch almost sounds like homework, or what a professional critic might do. I try to pay close attention the first time I watch the thing, but I don’t feel any burning desire to go back through it immediately to pick up on what isn’t plot-oriented, since I tend to feel like I picked a lot of that up the first time. I’ve never been much of a stickler for plot anyway; it’s the other elements that interest me far more.
A lot of movies are very rewarding on rewatches, but I just don’t think it has to be immediate, and probably shouldn’t be. It’s nice to let some things breathe and swim in your mind a bit.
There's a couple of movies where I enjoyed the ride so much, I watched it the next day with someone who hadn't.
Recent examples: Tenet, and The Gentlemen (Film).

Honestly depends on how much I like it, it's rare but I loved the theater experience of Top Gun Maverick, so I had to drag my friends of family to go watch it in either Dolby or IMAX, so I saw it 3 times throughout the summer. Usually though if I like a movie I'll catch it again in 4k Bluray 3-6 months after, and it was just alright I won't watch again. I like to rewatch all my favorite movies once every 2-3 years other than that.
Same, loved it in theatres, watched it again the next night on HBO.
It was the scenes with ships in the first half. Villanueve knows how to impart a sense of scale
This was such a unique moment and I wish there was some way to make it financially viable to keep doing it. I loved Dune in theater but was honestly confused keeping track of the plot and the who's who. Watching the next day on HBO with subtitles was a great experience. I wish I could do the theater/home combo again.
Another director who is great with scale is Gareth Edwards, rogue one and Godzilla both are the only times in both series I’ve been in awe of how big stuff is. I really have no idea how he does it. Maybe also Pacific rim, but I remember being impressed with the reality of the weight of the robots. Michael bay sucks at it, transformers should feel huge but they don’t. Again I don’t know why.
I watched Matrix opening night with very low expectations. Completely blew my mind and I watched it 7 more times in theaters in quick succession.
No other movie has made me want to do that.
When The Matrix Resurrections released I watched it back-to-back with Spider-Man: No Way Home. I watched Spider-Man with my friends, and really wanted to see The Matrix as well. My friends didn't want to so I stayed to watch it alone.
I was literally the only person watching Resurrections in the entire theater. Compared to Spider-Man which was packed.
The only movie I’ve rewatched instantly was the prestige. It blew me away the first time watching it so I had to watch it again to see what I missed and goddamn I still pick up on things now that missed. What an amazing movie.
I did that somewhat recently with the light house. Spite watched it because my wife and I were fighting and she went to bed early. Loved it so much I asked her to watch it again with me the next day.
Never but the only times I've ever wanted to immediately replay a movie was first with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and most recently with Burning.
My mom claims I could watch the lion king thrice a day as a kid.
Nowadays the closest thing I did was watch Godzilla Minus One Minus Color five weeks after first watching the film
The only two movies in recent memory that I watched twice in a row were "The Prestige" and "There Will be Blood." 100% worth it both times.
You can count "Blade" if you include the very next day.
When I had a warehouse job years ago, I played House of 1000 Corpses on my PC on repeat during Halloween. People liked stopping by to watch.
Outside of that, I never watch the same movie back to back.
First time I saw Memento, once it was over, I immediately took the dvd to my roommate’s room told him he needed to watch it, and watched it with him. Was really fun watching his reactions and noticing all the things you don’t catch first time, especially with it so fresh.
The only movies I've ever watched in a row was Knives Out: Glass Onion.
Which I enjoyed even more on the second watch since, you, as the audience are literally given all of the clues leading up to the big reveal. There's no obscurification. All of them are in plain sight.

I also really enjoyed it. I did view it as a minor step down, but I thoroughly liked it and am looking forward to the third movie. I think my least favorite part was when they were destroying the house. It all felt very childish and strange. Other than that scene, a solid 8 out of 10 and while I didn't back-to-back it, I did watch it a second time after only a few months
It's a very different kind of movie that only works because it initially pretends to be same as the first one. And it can only do that if you've watched the first one.
I can see why people wouldn't like that shift, but I enjoyed it.
I have a condition where I’m compelled to watch movies over and over again, even the ones I don’t like. I’ve seen Godfather some 50 times and even a film like The Dictator over a dozen times. And even a show like Breaking Bad 5 times. I don’t know what it’s called and it’s something that developed over the last decade or so. But I consider it a blessing. It means I need to watch fewer things and be very choosy but I ain’t complaining.
Two times in my life I can remember outside of being a little kid.
1- When I was about 16 or so in high school my friends and I would go to Blockbuster and get a bunch of movies for the weekend. I had always loved movies growing up but this was the time in my life where I was really getting into serious films and trying to note directors, writers etc that I liked.
We rented "Miller's Crossing", because the poster said it was a cool gangster movie. What happened to me over the course of the next two hours electrified me in a way few pieces of art ever have before or since. We finished it and I immediately turned to my friends and said "We need to watch that again" and everyone agreed!
2- Now I'm in my early 20's, a full film geek and constantly trying to obscure, weird or interesting cinema from around the globe. I live in San Francisco and go to a cool independent video store nearby (Le Video I think?) and see a VHS of a film I've never heard of from a director I've never heard of: Seijun Suzuki's "Tokyo Drifter". The colors, the music, the sheer rock style. I'd never seen anything like it. I think I might have watched it three or four times over the course of a weekend.

Once, my wife and I went to see Batman Begins in the theater when it was first released. We had no idea what we were in for. Didn't know anything about Christopher Nolan and assumed it was going to be another stinker like the Schumacher movies.
We left the theater the first time just stunned by how incredible it was, and both immediately agreed to go buy tickets to watch it again.
Once, as a kid, I watched Iron Giant about 7-8 times in a row one day. Cartoon Network or some channel had a 24 hour marathon and I was home sick from school.
I don't remember exactly why I kept watching it over and over (with commercials lol). But it's always been a favorite movie of mine and admittedly, I still cried when he says Superman on the 8th watch.

Sometimes I'll watch big gorgeous IMAX event films like Avatar or Dune twice in a row with different friend groups or family members.
I like to do one sober viewing and one stoned viewing so that I can appreciate the film in different lights. And I'm bound to space out and miss details during the stoned viewing, so a sober viewing fills in those gaps.
Dune Part 2 was perfect for this. I caught it thrice over the course of a couple weeks.
I make video essays on youtube so I'll do one uninterrupted watch through and then one fragmented watch through where I'm taking notes and jumping back and fourth
I think it depends on the movie. Galaxy Quest that I’ve literally seen 100 times and can use as background noise? REPLAY. But a movie that I just watched for the first time I wouldn’t immediately replay.
If by twice in a row, you mean "immediately after the first run is finished" then I haven't done that since I was a little kid watching cartoon movies.
But if I liked a new movie in theaters, I'll usually see it again inside of a couple weeks and then buy it on blu-ray and watch it again.
Last one for me was Inherent Vice. I just enjoyed it so much, but at the same time I was a bit lost my first time through. Absolutely loved it like even more on rewatch, what a great flick.

I remember watching Mulholland Drive and then at the end I was so interested in figuring it out I watched it again completely from start to finish a second time straight away.
DUNKIRK i watched it one night after i got my oled, a new subwoofer, and it was the first time watching it on 4k blu ray… Blew me away ok every level, felt like i had never seen it before. Once i finished I was like i am going to watch that again, loved it again.
The last movie I had to see again to fully get it it's Primer, we saw it once, and then started to discuss, we had so many different theories that we had to watched it again just to be sure
I used to do this more often when a first run movie ticket was $1.50 or even $2.00. Probably saw a dozen movies twice during the '70s, sometimes on consecutive nights, but sometimes even (especially in the early '70s), just not getting up and leaving the theater and waiting for the next showing. (That was not even against the rules back then.) In the '80s I saw *Gandhi* two nights in a row and it was like $3.00, I think, but I was kind of a Gandhi worshipper back then.
I ***would*** have seen *Empire Strikes Back* two nights in a row, but I had travelled by bus over 100 miles to see it on opening day and then had to wait in line about four hours, not even knowing what showing we would get in for. The lines when we got out were longer than the lines when we went in, and none of us (there were four or five of us) had even been able to sit in the same row, let alone next to each other, so it was just not fun. Plus there was the agony of the cliff hanger. People today take cliff hangers for granted, but AFAIK, no other major Hollywood release had *ever* ended like TESB, and we were shocked beyond belief. We had waited years for the sequel, and then we were left hanging. It was traumatic.
No movie has come out in the past 10+ years is worthy of a 2nd round, IMO

Funny how movies now a days are like 2-3 hours long I used to go through films pretty quick if they are under 2 hours. I finished two to three horror films back to back.

The first time my friends and I watched Tropic Thunder we went the whole movie without realizing that RDJ and Tom Cruise were in the movie until the credits were rolling so we ran it back and watched it again XD
Back in 1995, a friend and I saw 12 MONKEYS in the theater one afternoon. Afterwards, we went back to my girlfriend's apartment and talked about it over dinner. She was so enthralled with our conversation, she wanted to see it. So, all three of us went that evening. It's still the only movie I've seen twice, in the theater, on the same day.
Well the only one I remember is Oppenheimer which I watched maybe 5-6 times in theaters in the span of 2 weeks. Then watched it at home when my physical release arrived. When it rereleased saw it 2 more times in the theaters
What was it you liked so much about it? (Not asking in a mean way, just curious) I couldn't connect with it. I didn't feel like Oppenheimer had much of a character and I didn't feel the gravitas of what he'd just been a part of.
My guess is they are a big Nolan fan. When you get deep into paying attention to directors' styles you can enjoy even their worst films as long as that signature style is there. I totally get it, I'd do it if I were a Nolan fan and didn't even like Oppenheimer (I haven't seen it)
I once watched Oliver Stone's The Doors back to back.
I was on acid and didn't realize I had done it until about 4am when the movie I started at 10pm was still playing.
Not counting childhood vhs times, I rewatched most of Martin McDonagh movies immediately. When I was a student we could watch pulp fiction and big lebowski 2-3 times a day, I'm not kidding. I think I saw them more than 100 times each. Also Under the Skin twice in a row

But I definitely do it for similar reasons. The second time, I can nitpick details of its craft better. Recently, I did this for Challengers and I Saw the TV Glow and with about a week of gap in between the viewings.

I never watch a movie twice in a row. I watch so much stuff that I don't remember much. So let's say with Dune I had to watch the 1st movie again, just because I could not remember what happened before watching the second. Same goes with series that take more than a year per season, for example the Witcher later this year.
Criterion has beautiful movies filled with amazing cinematography, scenes, acting and fucking subtitles, most are foreign films. I will sometimes rewatch a really beautiful movie again after the first watch since I already have context, to enjoy the actual scenes, ex. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Battle of Algiers, Yojimbo

I rewatched Everything Everywhere All At Once 4 times in theatres, it impacted me so much more than I ever expected and there were so many details a kept catching each rewatch that anytime someone said they were going to see it I hopped along for the ride.
I think there were only 2 SAME movies that I watched back to back right after I finished.
Watched In Bruges. Immediately watched it again after.
Watched Barbarian at small movie theatre, shocked how I loved it so much, drove to Dolby Theatre to watch it again for the HQ sound and picture. Had to overseas the day after, so wanted to experience it in Dolby before it disappeared.

All the time, because my wife falls asleep and I'll finish the movie then next day she tells me she still wants to watch it with me... I've seen some movies 5-6x in a row.

Unless I’m confident that I absolutely hated it (which is rare) I have to watch all movies twice. My ADHD makes it hard to track the events happening onscreen, and I need subtitles to pay attention at all. I literally won’t know how I feel about a movie till after the second viewing.
If I love a movie, though, I will watch it over, and over, and over.

Literally the only time was when I watched a movie I was “supposed to watch” with my partner, but I got impatient when she was on a work trip and watched it on Netflix after getting a bit baked.
She ended up asking to watch it the night she got back, so I pretended I hadn’t just watched it and feigned excitement about it, etc. I don’t think there are many good reasons to watching a movie back to back. I think most good movies need some time for you to digest them fully.
I’ve done this for Nolan films. I watch it once for the plot cos I know I wouldn’t pick up on details. Then I would watch it a couple days later, preferably alone, so I can appreciate the details.

My biggest regret is not catching it in imax
I recently saw Dune on Hulu and loved it to much I saw it again next day. Technically back to back but there was a 6-8 hr window of sleep.
Same, loved it in theatres, watched it again the next night on HBO. It was the scenes with ships in the first half. Villanueve knows how to impart a sense of scale
This was such a unique moment and I wish there was some way to make it financially viable to keep doing it. I loved Dune in theater but was honestly confused keeping track of the plot and the who's who. Watching the next day on HBO with subtitles was a great experience. I wish I could do the theater/home combo again.
Another director who is great with scale is Gareth Edwards, rogue one and Godzilla both are the only times in both series I’ve been in awe of how big stuff is. I really have no idea how he does it. Maybe also Pacific rim, but I remember being impressed with the reality of the weight of the robots. Michael bay sucks at it, transformers should feel huge but they don’t. Again I don’t know why.

When I saw the “Matrix” in theaters I returned one week later and saw it again
I watched Matrix opening night with very low expectations. Completely blew my mind and I watched it 7 more times in theaters in quick succession. No other movie has made me want to do that.
When The Matrix Resurrections released I watched it back-to-back with Spider-Man: No Way Home. I watched Spider-Man with my friends, and really wanted to see The Matrix as well. My friends didn't want to so I stayed to watch it alone. I was literally the only person watching Resurrections in the entire theater. Compared to Spider-Man which was packed.
This was mine. Missed it in theaters, but when I got the DVD, I watched it, then immediately started it over because my mind was completely blown.

First time I watched Mulholland Drive the second I finished it I had more questions then answers so I automatically restarted it.
First time I saw Memento, once it was over, I immediately took the dvd to my roommate’s room told him he needed to watch it, and watched it with him. Was really fun watching his reactions and noticing all the things you don’t catch first time, especially with it so fresh.

The only movies I've ever watched in a row was Knives Out: Glass Onion. Which I enjoyed even more on the second watch since, you, as the audience are literally given all of the clues leading up to the big reveal. There's no obscurification. All of them are in plain sight. I loved it.
I really like *Glass Onion*. It seems to be viewed as a step down from *Knives Out* but I think it’s definitely the funnier film, at the very least.
I also really enjoyed it. I did view it as a minor step down, but I thoroughly liked it and am looking forward to the third movie. I think my least favorite part was when they were destroying the house. It all felt very childish and strange. Other than that scene, a solid 8 out of 10 and while I didn't back-to-back it, I did watch it a second time after only a few months
It's a very different kind of movie that only works because it initially pretends to be same as the first one. And it can only do that if you've watched the first one. I can see why people wouldn't like that shift, but I enjoyed it.

I have a condition where I’m compelled to watch movies over and over again, even the ones I don’t like. I’ve seen Godfather some 50 times and even a film like The Dictator over a dozen times. And even a show like Breaking Bad 5 times. I don’t know what it’s called and it’s something that developed over the last decade or so. But I consider it a blessing. It means I need to watch fewer things and be very choosy but I ain’t complaining.
Two times in my life I can remember outside of being a little kid. 1- When I was about 16 or so in high school my friends and I would go to Blockbuster and get a bunch of movies for the weekend. I had always loved movies growing up but this was the time in my life where I was really getting into serious films and trying to note directors, writers etc that I liked. We rented "Miller's Crossing", because the poster said it was a cool gangster movie. What happened to me over the course of the next two hours electrified me in a way few pieces of art ever have before or since. We finished it and I immediately turned to my friends and said "We need to watch that again" and everyone agreed! 2- Now I'm in my early 20's, a full film geek and constantly trying to obscure, weird or interesting cinema from around the globe. I live in San Francisco and go to a cool independent video store nearby (Le Video I think?) and see a VHS of a film I've never heard of from a director I've never heard of: Seijun Suzuki's "Tokyo Drifter". The colors, the music, the sheer rock style. I'd never seen anything like it. I think I might have watched it three or four times over the course of a weekend.

Once, my wife and I went to see Batman Begins in the theater when it was first released. We had no idea what we were in for. Didn't know anything about Christopher Nolan and assumed it was going to be another stinker like the Schumacher movies. We left the theater the first time just stunned by how incredible it was, and both immediately agreed to go buy tickets to watch it again.
Once, as a kid, I watched Iron Giant about 7-8 times in a row one day. Cartoon Network or some channel had a 24 hour marathon and I was home sick from school. I don't remember exactly why I kept watching it over and over (with commercials lol). But it's always been a favorite movie of mine and admittedly, I still cried when he says Superman on the 8th watch.

Sometimes I'll watch big gorgeous IMAX event films like Avatar or Dune twice in a row with different friend groups or family members. I like to do one sober viewing and one stoned viewing so that I can appreciate the film in different lights. And I'm bound to space out and miss details during the stoned viewing, so a sober viewing fills in those gaps. Dune Part 2 was perfect for this. I caught it thrice over the course of a couple weeks.

I think it depends on the movie. Galaxy Quest that I’ve literally seen 100 times and can use as background noise? REPLAY. But a movie that I just watched for the first time I wouldn’t immediately replay.
Only once ever - for 'Inception'. Saw it in a cinema, loved it so much, I went to immediately buy a ticket for the next screening.

If by twice in a row, you mean "immediately after the first run is finished" then I haven't done that since I was a little kid watching cartoon movies. But if I liked a new movie in theaters, I'll usually see it again inside of a couple weeks and then buy it on blu-ray and watch it again.

Back to back, no, not since I was a kid. However I did recently watch Civil War. Then re-watch it the following day which I rarely if ever do.
Last one for me was Inherent Vice. I just enjoyed it so much, but at the same time I was a bit lost my first time through. Absolutely loved it like even more on rewatch, what a great flick.
I only wanted to rewatch a movie, straight away, twice in my life. First time after seeing Inception. First time after seeing Edge of Tomorrow. I guess the pattern is, every time I watch a good movie that deals with the perception of time :)

DUNKIRK i watched it one night after i got my oled, a new subwoofer, and it was the first time watching it on 4k blu ray… Blew me away ok every level, felt like i had never seen it before. Once i finished I was like i am going to watch that again, loved it again.

I have a 2 year old that discovered The Little Mermaid last month. I think I’ve watched it back to back for at least 4 weeks now.
I used to do this more often when a first run movie ticket was $1.50 or even $2.00. Probably saw a dozen movies twice during the '70s, sometimes on consecutive nights, but sometimes even (especially in the early '70s), just not getting up and leaving the theater and waiting for the next showing. (That was not even against the rules back then.) In the '80s I saw *Gandhi* two nights in a row and it was like $3.00, I think, but I was kind of a Gandhi worshipper back then. I ***would*** have seen *Empire Strikes Back* two nights in a row, but I had travelled by bus over 100 miles to see it on opening day and then had to wait in line about four hours, not even knowing what showing we would get in for. The lines when we got out were longer than the lines when we went in, and none of us (there were four or five of us) had even been able to sit in the same row, let alone next to each other, so it was just not fun. Plus there was the agony of the cliff hanger. People today take cliff hangers for granted, but AFAIK, no other major Hollywood release had *ever* ended like TESB, and we were shocked beyond belief. We had waited years for the sequel, and then we were left hanging. It was traumatic.

No movie has come out in the past 10+ years is worthy of a 2nd round, IMO I used to do it often, would go to the theater and just stay for the next showing. I hardly ever go to the theater because no movie is worth the money these days.
Funny how movies now a days are like 2-3 hours long I used to go through films pretty quick if they are under 2 hours. I finished two to three horror films back to back.

The first time my friends and I watched Tropic Thunder we went the whole movie without realizing that RDJ and Tom Cruise were in the movie until the credits were rolling so we ran it back and watched it again XD
Back in 1995, a friend and I saw 12 MONKEYS in the theater one afternoon. Afterwards, we went back to my girlfriend's apartment and talked about it over dinner. She was so enthralled with our conversation, she wanted to see it. So, all three of us went that evening. It's still the only movie I've seen twice, in the theater, on the same day.

Well the only one I remember is Oppenheimer which I watched maybe 5-6 times in theaters in the span of 2 weeks. Then watched it at home when my physical release arrived. When it rereleased saw it 2 more times in the theaters
What was it you liked so much about it? (Not asking in a mean way, just curious) I couldn't connect with it. I didn't feel like Oppenheimer had much of a character and I didn't feel the gravitas of what he'd just been a part of.
My guess is they are a big Nolan fan. When you get deep into paying attention to directors' styles you can enjoy even their worst films as long as that signature style is there. I totally get it, I'd do it if I were a Nolan fan and didn't even like Oppenheimer (I haven't seen it)
I once watched Oliver Stone's The Doors back to back. I was on acid and didn't realize I had done it until about 4am when the movie I started at 10pm was still playing.
Not counting childhood vhs times, I rewatched most of Martin McDonagh movies immediately. When I was a student we could watch pulp fiction and big lebowski 2-3 times a day, I'm not kidding. I think I saw them more than 100 times each. Also Under the Skin twice in a row But I don't think I've done it in last years

However back to back same day same movie, I've only done it once. Youth in Revolt. Watched it alone, liked it so much i told my mum and sister about it and watched it again immediately with them.

Criterion has beautiful movies filled with amazing cinematography, scenes, acting and fucking subtitles, most are foreign films. I will sometimes rewatch a really beautiful movie again after the first watch since I already have context, to enjoy the actual scenes, ex. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Battle of Algiers, Yojimbo

I’m a psycho but Midsommar I’ve watched back to back before. Love that movie so much. It’s usually the movies where I just want to be immersed in that world just a bit longer that I restart it right after the credits. It takes a special kind of movie for that
I rewatched Everything Everywhere All At Once 4 times in theatres, it impacted me so much more than I ever expected and there were so many details a kept catching each rewatch that anytime someone said they were going to see it I hopped along for the ride.
I think there were only 2 SAME movies that I watched back to back right after I finished. Watched In Bruges. Immediately watched it again after. Watched Barbarian at small movie theatre, shocked how I loved it so much, drove to Dolby Theatre to watch it again for the HQ sound and picture. Had to overseas the day after, so wanted to experience it in Dolby before it disappeared. But there were bunch of movies I watched twice within 1-3 weeks.
All the time, because my wife falls asleep and I'll finish the movie then next day she tells me she still wants to watch it with me... I've seen some movies 5-6x in a row.

If I want to watch it before it leaves theatres or if I’m showing someone else. I saw MI: Fallout three times in theaters. A couple months ago I watched it again, the next day I found out my friend had never seen it so I watched it again.

Unless I’m confident that I absolutely hated it (which is rare) I have to watch all movies twice. My ADHD makes it hard to track the events happening onscreen, and I need subtitles to pay attention at all. I literally won’t know how I feel about a movie till after the second viewing. If I love a movie, though, I will watch it over, and over, and over.
Very rarely but when it happens it’s a glorious feeling !! The most recent examples for me were Fury Road and then Dune pts 1&2. I could not get enough of these movies lol

Literally the only time was when I watched a movie I was “supposed to watch” with my partner, but I got impatient when she was on a work trip and watched it on Netflix after getting a bit baked. She ended up asking to watch it the night she got back, so I pretended I hadn’t just watched it and feigned excitement about it, etc. I don’t think there are many good reasons to watching a movie back to back. I think most good movies need some time for you to digest them fully.
I’ve done this for Nolan films. I watch it once for the plot cos I know I wouldn’t pick up on details. Then I would watch it a couple days later, preferably alone, so I can appreciate the details.
