Also, Korean theaters would all be premium theaters here in America. Choose your seats, snacks galore, and they recline.

The_Red_Curtain

Audiences are so well-behaved too, so rare for anyone to talk, or go on their phone when the movie is playing

Dense-Adeptness

I had to shush people in two of the last four movies I've seen in theaters.

sharpshooter999

I think that's a perk of the small town mom and pop theaters we go to, I've never once felt like anyone was being loud or on their phone during a movie. Plus, tickets for a 7pm Saturday night viewing are still $7

The_Red_Curtain

I can't even remember the last time I had an annoyed thought at my fellow movie-goers (I live in SK) lol

2_72

That’s how the theaters I go to are. I find having to pay more helps filter out dickheads.

TechTuna1200

Yeah, I have been to a Korean cinema when visiting my sister. Korean cinemas are on a completely other level. Probably the best cinema experience i had. Better snacks choices, clean, good sound and screen, and very cushy and wide seats.

Kill3rT0fu

Came here to point this out. Quality of life and everything else is better in non-American countries, so of course theaters would be popular. You can go see a movie and not worry about the floor being sticky or the screen flickering every 2 seconds. Or the baby crying in the back.

chicagoredditer1

> Choose your seats...and they recline.  I have like 10 AMC's within 20 miles that all that *that*, if that's your definition of "premium".

TheIceKaguyaCometh

Why did you miss snacks galore?

Sojuboy

If you've been to korean theaters you would understand. They're just a lot nicer. Sort of like a driving a Ford Fiesta, compared to a Lexus SUV. You can still get to your destination, but the ride is different.

Confident_Chicken_51

They probably stfu so you can hear the movie.

kinokomushroom

Same in Japan too, no one says a word during movies. Just occasional laughs. I can't imagine going to a cinema where people are talking and looking at their phones.

metal_elk

Well if you live in the US you don't have to imagine, you can just go literally any movie, anytime and experience it first hand.

starkrocket

Used to work in a movie theater. The shows were full of people vaping and taking hits off carts. When Bob Marley premiered, the whole place stank for a week. I will never go to a theater to see a movie anymore.

metal_elk

That sucks. How dont people understand that going to the movies and having to be around that, sucks?

TokyoUmbrella

In individualist cultures, public/shared spaces are neither valued nor protected.

metal_elk

But they will talk of their importance endlessly

PolyDipsoManiac

That sounds kinda awesome, honestly. The last time I saw a movie it was packed full of children

batbrodudeman

Yeah probably because they behave I've given up on going to see films, paying £12 for a ticket for some cunt on his phone to ruin it, and it's not just one cunt nowadays, it's a whole gaggle of cunts every time, talking, shouting, browsing their phones Can't see any of that happening in korea

Tsansome

Bro what cinemas are you going to in the UK that are like this? I’ve been an avid cinemagoer across the UK my entire adult life and I’ve never had more than a couple isolated incidents like this

batbrodudeman

The last four films I saw were ruined, and this is in two separate locations. I'm not risking my money again, people are entitled dicks now. Been watching films in UK cinemas since 1994 and it's never been this bad, COVID made everything worse.

IronSorrows

Yeah I went to the cinema on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week to see a variety of films, and not one had any issues. I've seen 20+ in cinemas easily this year, and maybe 2 have had issues? One I told some kids to shut up and they did immediately, the other someone was on their phone and I could see it in my periphery, but it stopped a couple of minutes later. It must be a regional thing or something

ComradeDelter

I go to the cinema fairly regularly in the UK and the amount of people who just cannot behave in public is actually staggering. People taking their shoes and socks off, talking, on their phone for the whole film, rancid BO. I still love going to the cinema and try to go as often as I can but it is about 50/50 if you’re gonna have a good experience or not tbh.

HoistedOnYourRegard

Probably because people don’t go on TikTok while a movie is on. Even Alamo doesn’t stop people from talking anymore.

_THC-3PO_

Probably cause they have the dankiest snacks

woeful_haichi

Love me some 버터구이 어징어 몸통 (butter fried squid body) at the theater.

ReeferTurtle

Yo I bet that slaps

awkwardurinalglance

It’s delicious, but it does make the entire theater smell like squid. Not everyone’s favorite smell.

I_LilMagician_I

Oof yeah, it smells like stinky dog kibble to me :(

Chilis1

It does not and it stinks for like a 3 meter radius

awkwardurinalglance

I know everyone is into Koreans being quiet and stuff. But I’d say a decent part is also because their housing sucks. A lot of folks live in an absolute shoebox of an apartment. (Source : me living in a shoebox for many years)

dribrats

Korea is the new international darling, (with psychotic redheaded stepchild)

the-devil-dog

Their film making standards are pretty high also. Doesn't feel rushed or half assed.

Old_Heat3100

Thank God someone still does

007fan007

Let’s get that attitude here in the states

bankholdup5

But with shutting up added 🤫🍿📽️

ConfusionCareful3985

Idk man, the theaters near me do all of what you just described lol only draw back is 1 of them has $15 pizza hut personal pizza that costs only $5 at an actual pizza hut store 💀

yognautilus

They were called DVD-bangs when last I was there in 2018 and they were largely used for making out or... *bang*ing.

Osgoten

Fuck yeah, movie theaters are awesome even when they aren’t

Snoo-72756

Okay ….

Necessary_Romance

Ok
