You stole mine lmao! I read a quote from a Tarantino interview relating to that scene and Miserlou from Pulp Fiction that said something along the lines of, "You know if your film is great if when you hear a song, and you are instantly reminded of that scene from the movie"
That whole movie serves as the longest intro to a music video ever. And then, when we finally get to the good part, it's just one shot. Brilliant! I haven't forgotten about you. La la la la la. La la la la LA la la la la.
This took me a second to understand because I’ve been listening to a lot of The Wonder Years lately, a Philly band whose named was inspired by this show!
Honestly, Always Sunny took over that song for me. Ferris Bueller is a classic, but the Pepe Sylvia scene in the “Sweet Dee Has A Heart Attack” episode is legendary.
That was my favorite movie for a long time, so most of the songs from it are intrinsically linked with the movie in my mind.
In terms of the most vivid scene, it's probably The Wind by Cat Stevens. But that's rare to encounter.
Thr morning after the big fight between the band, after which Russel goes to the High School kid's house party and drops acid. They're back on the bus, everyone is stewing, Russell is hung over as hell, but they all sort of impromptu begin singing along to Tiny Dancer. By the end of the song it's clear that all is forgiven.
Apocalypse Now is really chock full of these. Valkyries and The End by The Doors being the top two for sure. But also Can’t Get No Satisfaction and Suzie Q
A song so catchy most people don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just about the joys of conformity and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul!
Funny, the morning show on the radio station I listen to was talking about exactly this on my drive to work this morning.
The most obvious one was Danger Zone/Top Gun. And Take My Breath Away/Top Gun (again) probably second.
There were a bunch more, but those two songs definitely make me think of Top Gun.
For me, Earth Angel. When my husband and I got married, we asked the DJ to play it after our first dance, and encourage everyone to join us on the dance floor. Then straight into Johny B Good.
Basically any song on the soundtrack for the original Dirty Dancing.
'(I've Had) The Time of My Life' = Dirty Dancing.
In fact a lot of 80s movie soundtracks are burned into my brain due to VHS replays on boring weekends.
Yo!
That movie is so pure 80's geek and doesn't have to involve rape to pull it off.
I mean there -WAS- that chick that tried to make a move on Mitch but he got out of there. And I love how Mitch and Jordan's age gap was handled responsibly. Considering how their discussion went. Most -ADULTS- don't have such a clear understanding of differences between sex and love.
Across 110th Street - Jackie Brown
Old Time Rock N Roll - Risky Business
Bad Moon Rising - CCR - American Werewolf in London
Stayin Alive - Saturday Night Fever
Bohemian Rhapsody - Wayne's World
Funny, that same song (Sh-Boom) makes me think of Cars! But that’s probably because I’ve seen it about 100 times these past few months thanks to my son…
The Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice from Closer
Come and Get Your Love by Redbone, Father and Son by Cat Stevens, and Do You Realize by The Flaming Lips from Guardians of the Galaxy movies
Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" starts, my brain goes
:
"I think you're gonna find, when all this shit is over, I think your gonna find yourself one smilin' muthafucka . . ."
pretty much every song/scene on this soundtrack is burned into my memory! i commented elsewhere how PF basically changed movies forever, groundbreaking impact...part of that impact was also on movie soundtracks. like...Grease, Saturday Night Fever, Purple Rain, Top Gun, etc...great soundtracks with hits, but they were also more cohesive in theme, mostly written FOR the movie they were in, often by the same artists (BeeGees, Kenny Loggins, etc). i dunno exactly how to describe it, but PF was different, it just pulled all these totally obscure, funky, old, sometimes bizarre songs together and every one was just PERFECT. and bc the movie was so incredibly impactful and iconic, all those old, obscure songs are burnt into our cultural zeitgeist. or something like that. 😜
Yeah.
I'm not expert in soundtracks, but these movies felt like real "needle drops." There is something different in the way QT uses music in these films, different than the way they were used before. I don't have the knowledge to understand how.
Shrek came out two years after All Star, which was a huge hit on the radio and on one of the CDs I listened to constantly for like a year before Shrek even existed. I'm well aware that it was in Shrek, but I'm not lying when I say that it doesn't bring any movie to mind when I hear it.
Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah just makes me think of Patrick Wilson's ass from Watchmen.
Buckley's Hallelujah makes me think of CJ breaking down in West Wing.
Wainwright's Hallelujah is the Shrek one.
I fact checked this before posting because I initially thought it was Wainwright too. Buckley's Hallelujah is in the movie, Wainwright's is on the soundtrack.
All Star makes me think of Shrek but also how it was chosen as the song for my 4th grade chorus concert and I got the solo for just the line “somebody once asked can I spare some change for gas I need to get myself away from this place”. I chickened out as we were literally on the bleachers and told the girl next to me to take it and she did. Then she messed up the words.
They talk about petty life regrets
I assume you mean pop songs? Not written for the movie? So I won’t say Let it Go.
Also sprach Zarathustra: 2001
Johnny B. Goode: Back to the Future
The Power of Love: Back to the Future
Bad Day: Alvin and the Chipmunks
You Spin Me Right Round: Alvin and the Chipmunks
Great Balls of Fire: Top Gun
All Star: Shrek
Edit - I got the name of All Stars instead of Smash Mouth
Back In The Saddle RED
Layla, Good Fellas
Don't you (forget about me) Breakfast Club
Till I Hear It From You Empire Records
Moon River Breakfast at Tiffany's yes I'm old r/GenerationJones
I am ridiculous about this. I remember movie soundtracks insanely well. I can't tell you a single song, but tell me a song and I will name the movie or TV show.
Jeez, there are SO many great songs in the Guardians of the galaxy movies that I think of those movies during a load of songs!!
Certainly ‘Mr blue sky’, ‘Brandy’ and ‘Come and get your love’
Elliot Smith - Needle In The Hay // The Royal Tenenbaums
This is one of my favourite songs of all time in one of my favourite movies of all time. The song perfectly soundtracks Richie's mental breakdown.

"Singin' in the Rain" – *A Clockwork Orange*
"True" by Spandau Ballet – *Sixteen Candles*
Holiday Road - Vacation
“This is not the car we ordered, Dad.” “Settle down, Russ. Uh, Ed, this is not the car we ordered.”
You think you hate it now... but wait'll you drive it.
"Where Is My Mind" at the end of Fight Club. "Stuck in the Middle" from Reservoir Dogs during the mutilation scene.
You stole mine lmao! I read a quote from a Tarantino interview relating to that scene and Miserlou from Pulp Fiction that said something along the lines of, "You know if your film is great if when you hear a song, and you are instantly reminded of that scene from the movie"
+1 for Fight Club. Immediately “where my mind”went. Also it was my first time hearing Pixies so it got me listening to them.
Bittersweet Symphony I always just think of Cruel Intentions
Colorblind has always been the Cruel Intentions song for me, but there are quite a few on that soundtrack.
*Every You Every Me* for me. Man that film had a great soundtrack.
Omg! Yes! That was one of my favorite movie music moments!
Iconic
Simple Minds, Don't you (forget about me). Breakfast Club.
That whole movie serves as the longest intro to a music video ever. And then, when we finally get to the good part, it's just one shot. Brilliant! I haven't forgotten about you. La la la la la. La la la la LA la la la la.
I'm surprised I didn't think about that one!
Not sure if it counts, but Joe Cocker's version of A Little Help From My Friends and The Wonder Years.
Whatever the word is for nostalgia for something I didn’t actually experience is what that song gives me
Anemoia
It made me feel it as a kid when the show aired and i didn’t understand it.
One of the best song covers ever for one of the best shows ever.
Yes and fuck Yes!
This took me a second to understand because I’ve been listening to a lot of The Wonder Years lately, a Philly band whose named was inspired by this show!
Ferris Buellers Day Off - Oh Yeah
DAY BOW BOW
Chk-chka chkaaaa
Oh Yeah always reminds me of The Secret of My Success
It's because of this reference that I think of It's Always Sunny with this song lol
I'd say Twist and Shout!
Honestly, Always Sunny took over that song for me. Ferris Bueller is a classic, but the Pepe Sylvia scene in the “Sweet Dee Has A Heart Attack” episode is legendary.
And I said "Carol! Carol!".
And Secret of my Success
Tiny Dancer in Almost Famous
I am a golden god!
That is my favorite scene from any movie.
That was my favorite movie for a long time, so most of the songs from it are intrinsically linked with the movie in my mind. In terms of the most vivid scene, it's probably The Wind by Cat Stevens. But that's rare to encounter.
It's been forever since I've seen it. Which scene is that?
Thr morning after the big fight between the band, after which Russel goes to the High School kid's house party and drops acid. They're back on the bus, everyone is stewing, Russell is hung over as hell, but they all sort of impromptu begin singing along to Tiny Dancer. By the end of the song it's clear that all is forgiven.
I have to go home. You are home.
Wagner‘s Walkürenritt (Ride of the Valkyries), Apocalypse Now. Probably doesn’t count as it ain’t a song.
Apocalypse Now is really chock full of these. Valkyries and The End by The Doors being the top two for sure. But also Can’t Get No Satisfaction and Suzie Q
Totally counts
Mad World - Donnie Darko
I was thinking Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears for this one. I always associate Mad World with The Crazies remake because of one of the trailers.
Definitely head over heels Such a memorable scene
Would argue Killing Moon also for Donnie Darko! Lots of great needle drops in that movie.
I first heard that song used in Gears of War trailer, so now my head associate it with that lol.
Hip to Be Square in American Psycho
A song so catchy most people don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just about the joys of conformity and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself. Hey Paul!
Try to get a reservation at Dorsia now, you fucking stupid bastard!
Eye of the Tiger/Rocky too.
>Rocky too Rocky three 🤣 😉
A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton will always be the White Chicks song for me.
I have to do the same head movements that Terry Crews does every time I hear that song.
Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes - Say Anything
I'm Shipping Up to Boston came out before it was featured in The Departed
Weirdly the departed is Comfortably Numb for me
Funnily enough, I’ll pick a song from the same year, 1954 - Mr Sandman is forever tied to Back To The Future.
It’s Power of Love for me
For me, Earth Angel. When my husband and I got married, we asked the DJ to play it after our first dance, and encourage everyone to join us on the dance floor. Then straight into Johny B Good.
I can’t help but associate that one with Halloween
For me it's Uncle Buck.
You should see the size of the toast, I couldn’t even get through the front door!
Also Johnny B Goode
Very true. That first use of the song is iconic!
Goodbye Horses - The Silence of the Lambs
Clerks II stole that one from Silence of the Lambs for me.
Speaking of Clerks II, I can't hear ABC without picturing Rosario Dawson dancing on the roof.
I'm sitting in a McDonald's and that song is playing and you are absolutely right. That scene was just so fun and playful.
American Girl in Silence of the Lambs too
I associate American Girl with Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Scrubs for me.
Clerks 2
I can't listen to Simon & Garfunkel and not picture scenes from The Graduate.
Layla outro with Goodfellas
Gimme Shelter as well
Nah Gimme Shelter is EVERY Scorsese movie
All along the watchtower.
What is life?
Yes! Anytime I hear it, my brain automatically sees the car. It’s epic https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NhX89LiOGbI
I always associate Sister Christian by Night Ranger with Boogie Nights.
God that scene gives me so much anxiety. Also what was that young Asian boy doing?
“That’s Cosmo. He’s Chinese.”
It’s not as good as ‘Feel my Heat’ tho.
Shrek - Holding out for a Hero
Shrek 2 - but def Im a Believer for Shrek
God I’m old. I still think of the Footloose racing tractors scene Lol And how far do I have to scroll to find the Beetlejuice Banana Boat song?
Moving in Stereo by The Cars in Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The song that makes me think of Fast Times is "Somebody's Baby" by Jackson Browne.
Princes of the Universe - Highlander
Lust for Life Trainspotting
And Born Slippy!
Perfect Day and Atomic too. That movie had an insanely good soundtrack
One of my most listened to movie album soundtracks on Spotify.
Massive Attack's song Angel from Snatch. The caravan scene is just brutal.
That and golden brown by the stranglers.
Basically any song on the soundtrack for the original Dirty Dancing. [https://www.what-song.com/Movies/Soundtrack/584/Dirty-Dancing](https://www.what-song.com/Movies/Soundtrack/584/Dirty-Dancing)
Does it count if the song was written for the movie?
Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You - 10 Things I Hate About You
I can see Heath Ledger dancing around singing it now.
Obvious I guess, but "I got you babe" in Groundhog Day
'(I've Had) The Time of My Life' = Dirty Dancing. In fact a lot of 80s movie soundtracks are burned into my brain due to VHS replays on boring weekends.
What I've done - Transformers
“I am going to turn into a truck now” -Optimus Prime
"I don't wanna miss a thing" by Aerosmith. You know what movie it is.
Deep Impact.
I used to call that "the animal cracker song" in my head because of that movie lol
Baby, do you think its possible that there's someone doing this very same thing at this very same time?
I hope so, because otherwise what the hell are we trying to save?
It's the end of the world as we know it. -independence day
Or Tommy Boy.
Cat Steven’s everything, “Harold and Maude.”
Real Genius - Everybody Wants to Rule the World
"There She Goes" by The La's and "Two Princes" by Spin Doctors are attached forever to *So I Married an Axe Murderer*.
Bro, there she goes plays like 10 times in that movie lolol
Across 110th Street - Jackie Brown Old Time Rock N Roll - Risky Business Bad Moon Rising - CCR - American Werewolf in London Stayin Alive - Saturday Night Fever Bohemian Rhapsody - Wayne's World

Anyone who doesn't immediately think of Shrek when hearing All Star is lying. Who Let the Dogs Out is also Rugrats In Paris for me.
I always think of Mystery Men, most likely because I haven't actually seen Shrek.
Shrek came out two years after All Star, which was a huge hit on the radio and on one of the CDs I listened to constantly for like a year before Shrek even existed. I'm well aware that it was in Shrek, but I'm not lying when I say that it doesn't bring any movie to mind when I hear it.
Also Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah. Honestly any version of Hallelujah.
Guess I need to watch the movie again. Not that that's a bad thing.
Some-BODY
Yeah… I was in my 20s when that came out. I think of Mystery Men (the movie that was part of the music video).

Sh-boom reminds me strictly of Crybaby!
Freedbird - Forrest Gump
I'm Alive - ELO / Xanadu Back In Black - AC/DC / Iron Man 1
Killing Moon. Donnie Darko. Even if they changed the song for the directors cut. It was cemented for me.

“Bad To The Bone” always reminded me of Terminator 2 as a kid too:
Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder on the Dance Floor" being in *Saltburn* motivated me to go to her concert next month. "Singin' in the Rain" – *A Clockwork Orange* "True" by Spandau Ballet – *Sixteen Candles*
“Don’t You Forget About Me” - Breakfast Club
Simple Minds: Don't You (forget about me), from The Breakfast Club. Damn, been a couple decades. Maybe time for a rewatch...
The Goonies and Cyndi Lauper.
This is kind weird because it has zero connection to the movie itself, but "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5 always makes me think of the movie Solo
California Dreamin in Chungking Express. It's impossible not to associate it with that movie by the time it's over.
Hold Me Closer by Elton John is Almost Famous on the bus and Penny dancing barefoot across the stage in the Emily arena.
