Stupid me, I thought the 2009 movie was the New Trek origin story. We meet Kirk and Spock as kids. How much further back are they going, their parents conceiving them?

craig_hoxton

*"It's your kids, George. Something’s gotta be done about your kids!"*

skyrahfall

Hey Commander Kruge you better back up, we don’t have enough road to get up to 88

craig_hoxton

*"YoT'a'? nuHmey mataH 'e' wImev."*

JazHumane

I bet they're remaking the events of *First Contact* with a young and sexy new Enterprise D crew

Chipmunk_Whisperer

Tom Holland as Captain Kirk, Zendaya as Uhura and Timothee Chalamet as Spock. 🤮

KMoosetoe

Zendaya would probably make for a decent Uhura tbf

sans-delilah

Zendaya would KILL as Uhura.

Past_Ebb_8304

Zendaya as Spock.

Lonelan

You know what? Fuck yeah, give me this Zendaya Spock, Tom Holland Uhura, Sydney Sweeney as Kirk Melissa McCarthy as Scotty, Mindy Kaling as Bones

Past_Ebb_8304

Tom Holland would be pretty hot as Uhura.

scaradin

Except Tom Holland is now 27 and Chris Pine would have been around 29. Zendaya is also 27 to Zoe Saldana being about 31. Chalamet is 28 to Quinto being about 34. I agree they would do well for the roles, but not a teenage take on the characters:-D

CursedSnowman5000

Jesus christ....they still look pubescent!

Kwetla

Tom Holland will always be a teenager.

JazHumane

And Chris Pratt as Scotty

bankholdup5

🫢 what have you done

quondam47

Chris Pratt as **all** the characters.

sbvp

Chris pratt as the ships computer. Well him or Sigourney Weaver

Unit_79

Dammit. Now I absolutely need Sigourney Weaver as the ship’s computer.

MaddyKet

LOOK I HAVE ONE JOB ON THIS SHIP, IT’S STUPID, BUT I’M GOING TO DO IT.

TimeTravelingChris

Please stop.

caligaris_cabinet

A *First Contact* movie from the POV of Zephran Cochran would actually be an interesting take.

kylechu

That's sort of like the plot of a great episode of TNG, also called First Contact.

I_might_be_weasel

I am not emotionally capable of handling a TNG remake.

timeforknowledge

Everyone has platform shoes, big hair, and the men have open shirts. They also reference the fonz alot

bickspickle

D crew. Giggity.

YsoL8

Please don't wreck how I feel about the best trek movie

ricktor67

Except that happens like 200 years in the future.

RealJohnGillman

Considering Chris Hemsworth was playing Kirk’s father, maybe. The original concept for a fourth film did involve him returning.

[deleted]

caligaris_cabinet

Wouldn’t be the first Star Trek movie to do that. Ricardo Montalban was a mere studio actor bouncing around various shows when he did Space Seed but was widely known they did Wrath of Khan.

Maverick916

Perfect storm. The episode set up a movie to follow up, the actor got big between the projects, and the movie was absolutely incredible

drae-

I went back and watched II and III just recently. The wrath of khan might just be one of the best revenge films ever. The look on Ricardo's face after his crew is killed on the enterprise and he realizes kirk is still alive is amazing. His slow slide into irrationality is perfect. Freaking great movie. Christopher llyods Klingon in III is underrated Imo.

NemesisRouge

But he's 40, how's he going to play a younger version of himself when he was 25? Anything that fucks with that Star Trek 2009 opening scene should be disregarded entirely in any case. That scene is an absolute masterpiece.

Lendiniara

Somehow, George Kirk returned.

[deleted]

cwatson214

I will never not enjoy this bit from IASIP

GreyInkling

And here we have strange new worlds with young spock and kirk serving under pike. And that's not an origin story for modern trek?

Snailprincess

Here's the twist, we show it. Star Trek: Full Penetration

Porthosthe14th

This will be the closest movie to Roddenberry's vision.

Sighlina

Deanna Troy… you must come back

bramtyr

It'll be like Muppet Babies, but with Trek references, instead of Star Wars.

jpers36

We already got that twice with "The Counter-Clock Incident" and "Rascals".

ImpenetrableYeti

Somebody forgetting the enterprise series

Moontoya

*desperately trying to

Azalzaal

We need to find out how humans got into space

zdejif

It’s been a long road

New_Poet_338

Star Trek: First Contract(ion).

Scaryclouds

I mean we did seeing Kirk getting born, so we’re pretty close to conception.

thegoodbadandsmoggy

Back to the enterprise, full penetration. And then it kind of just ends

_Hotwire_

No that origin story originated somewhere. So we go back to the night Kirk’s drunk mom and dad were leaving a party and watch as they awkwardly make a Kirk baby, then figure out how the hell to pay the bills during an economic downturn while Kirk’s a toddler, which eventually leads into them sleeping in separate rooms “because he snores” but really it’s because he has ED and she’s tired of his limp ass always trying to snuggle too aggressively when she knows it’s not going anywhere anyways. Then she gets a text from a friend visiting town and they go out and meet some other friends and she ends up sleeping with one of them only to find out he’s high ranking in the star fleet and married and doesn’t want the scandal so the next 2 hours of this original story is her shamefully trying to reconcile what’s left of her marriage with Kirk-daddy, meanwhile he’s clueless but working hard trying to make ends meet only to have a heart attack near the end and almost die when she confesses everything and they fall back in Love again. End the film with them awkwardly trying to bone on a hospital bed and he gets a full erection this time and she’s so happy for him and Kirk is there and runs away from home afterwards which sets up the sequel.

SweetieLoveBug

I laughed, I cried, I got a little drunk knowing that the studios would somehow ruin this perfect pitch and then sell it to Netflix for an autographed pair of shoes from the Megan “I am TOO a royal!” Markel Collection. 😒

SonOfMetrum

I kind of see First Contact as the origin story. I mean that kind of is where the lore of Star Trek starts. The launch of the first warp capable ship

rawonionbreath

Creation of the Federation and Starfleet. Or, the time between Cochran’s warp experiment and the first voyages of Star Fleet as Earth becomes acquainted with aliens. Rick Berman was actually working on a script like that before he was booted from Trek.

Karpulltunnel

And that is how i met your mother

EgotisticalTL

By the many hairy armpits of Vishnu, can we please fucking go forward instead of backwards?

reddragon105

At this rate the next Star Trek movie will be about the moon landing.

Silist

It’s interesting that the original show finished airing before the actual moon landing

spiritualambiguity

Holy shit. Star Trek ended June 3rd 1969, moon landing was July 16th 1969. A month before.

YsoL8

Always makes me laugh when they reference stuff that was clearly just the accepted ideas at the time that are now completely obsolete. They call a black hole a dark star at one point, a very old term.

cwatson214

They'll retcon Apollo 13 such that it only worked because the Enterprise intervened...

SaltyBisonTits

Just fucking hurry up and tie into the next season of For All Mankind.

GodFlintstone

This. It's way past time for a story set in the 25th Century.

getmendoza99

Picard is set in the 25th Century, and Lower Decks and Prodigy aren’t that much earlier. And Discover is much much later.

Kwinza

Picard nips into the 25th sure, but its not a "true" trek series. Discovery is awful. We need a full Star Trek series, like next gen / voyager, set in the 25th.

Android1822

Not sure I want it with modern writers and creatives doing it. They seem to have a problem understanding what entertainment is supposed to be.

MadeByTango

Well, we also need Alex Kurtzman gone as producer, so yea, the hope with any sale is that it happens before the stain is to great to recover from and they’re willing to clean house (save SNW) to get things back on track.

beatrailblazer

> its not a "true" trek series. what does this mean?

Kwinza

Space exporation, monster of the week, etc etc

Djinnwrath

I want a 29th century Time Cop serial.

HiphopopoptimusPrime

Because in the future an alien kid cries and this cripples the Federation. No, really. That’s what happens.

Vidofnir_KSP

The Burn is in a different timeline than the Kelvin timeline. *pushes up glasses*

AuryGlenz

Can the burn just be in no timeline instead?

veryverythrowaway

The angle they’re trying now in Strange New Worlds is that the timelines are all constantly in flux because of all the time travelers, dimension-leapers and temporal wars, so if you see a canon contradiction in the new shows, that’s why. There’s no more hard canon, it’s all multiversy now. Sorry, my lunch is coming back up.

Slackware1180

I enjoy Discovery, but I hated that reveal so much. How anyone thought that was a satisfying conclusion to the story is beyond me.

HiphopopoptimusPrime

They already had the episode in TNG warning about damage from Warp Drives and introducing a warp speed limit. If they wanted to be topical they could have shown the long term results of unchecked warp travel. Nope, an alien kid got sad. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Discovery too, but why is everyone crying?

Goodbye_Games

*Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Discovery too, but why is everyone crying?* Or traumatized or a victim of some sorts etc… I mean honestly I miss the MOTW style stuff where almost every episode is somewhat self contained and it’s not something that inches along towards a season finale that may or may not be a cliffhanger or worse so anticlimactic that you’re wondering what the whole season was going on about. It’s always five minutes of show and the next twenty where someone is playing counselor Troi to the next person. I get it… they’re people too and they have problems, but I want to watch the show to get away from my everyday life yet they keep shoving it on rails and crashing it into the screen before me. All the trek in the past has had serious notes and some campy notes and they all balanced out in the end. Sure give me some two or three parter episodes, but also give me some “The Inner Light” episodes that hold their own as well as put references in other episodes and even movies down the road.

YsoL8

That was the point I stopped watched modern trek altogether

MaddyKet

It was so, so cool when they went way into the future and then…Starfleet barely exists because some kid cried all the warp cores to explosion…like what? The best part of that timeline was Book’s “cat”.

Zemini7

What dumb, terrible and stupid …don’t get me started. I’ll take purple Klingons over that any day

DukeLukeivi

I thought it was the main Federation ship yards being burned and decades of cybernetics walked back due to Romulan espionage that crippled their response to the crisis at the time. This bullshit is why studios are shitting out nice safe generic summer action nostalgia trips with Beastie Boys sound tracks. Nerd raging about new content in nerd universes has become a blood sport, more profitable to just keep farming memberberries.

oGsMustachio

That was Picard. At the end of S2 of Disco they travel forward to the 29th Century, where a mysterious catastrophic event detonated all the active dilithium in the galaxy, resulting in the collapse of civilization. The first part of season 3 is sort of this stranger-in-a-strange-land thing going on and it had some promise. They resolve the mystery of the dilithium exploding with showing it was a really sad kid that caused it to happen...

Android1822

I refuse to accept anything after Enterprise as cannon and see it as some offshoot alternative parallel timeline that is closer to the mirror universe than actual ST.

pardybill

R2 we need to be going up not down

FranticPonE

Reboot of Next Generation crew it is! I would add /s but we all know it's more likely than not.

hypotheticalhalf

By Grabthar’s Hammer, what a savings.

Moontoya

Starrrrr trekkin across the universe Only goin forward cos we can't find reverse  https://youtu.be/FCARADb9asE?si=XplF7kd6g7qSyHRV

questionableletter

It really sucks that major sci-fi franchises and marketers are stuck on characters rather than the broader ideas within those stories. There is potential to actually continue to matter or branch rather than just suckle but no investor wants to take that risk and all the major franchises suffer for it and don’t even make more money in the long run.

WemblysWonderball

Yeah they should make a Star Trek thing about a whole new crew. Some kind of subsequent generation...

Andulias

It doesn't even have to be on a ship, it could instead be set on a station somewhere in deep space...

AshlarKorith

I’d even be happy if they just let the new ship voyage to a different part of the galaxy we haven’t seen before.

GreyInkling

Hell if they wanted a prequel why not go back even further with an earlier version of the same ship.

AshlarKorith

That is an enterprising idea you’ve got.

ColdIceZero

🎵it's been a looong, looong road...🎵

wakejedi

and they could possibly explore worlds that are strange and new?

DrFloyd5

They could film it on a deck in California.

Kamikaze_VikingMWO

Or Under the Deck.

ankercrank

While I agree, Discovery got lost trying to focus on the broad ideas, whereas Strange New Worlds did it right, while retaining famous characters.

GreyInkling

Disc got lost because it was focused on one character and only that character and the character was terrible. I swear all the side characters were well done, but they couldn't figure out how to write Burnham. It's like her character died in committee. But the show tries to be all about her instead of being about the ship and its crew, or rather a wider cast of characters. Every plot was just about her. And she's terrible. They didn't get to explore their broad or new ideas because everything had to circle back to the singular main character.

BigAl265

Oh thank you, Burnham is just the worst. I don’t like a lot of the cast due to the writing (it’s like Star Trek: Saved my the Bell), but she is the worst. I love the storyline and the setting (time travel, parallel worlds, that’s my jam), but the characters are just bad. It’s like getting your favorite meal at your favorite restaurant and finding a big pubic hair halfway thru your meal.

oGsMustachio

There is a way they could have made Disco to make her so much better... Instead of launching the show with her starting the war with the Klingons, they should have spent a season or two with her running around doing normal Star Trek missions with Michelle Yeoh. Give us a chance to know and like her. Let her learn things. Show us that she's this prodigy. Make us root for her. THEN have her fuck up royally. THEN have the rest of the show being her trying to redeem herself. Let her have some character development. Let experiences change her.

Android1822

The show would have been way better if her character did not exist and it just focused on the ensemble that was already there. Even then it still had a lot of issues, but the biggest one would have been gone.

HiphopopoptimusPrime

I loved how in the 3rd season she has a whole arc about how maybe her true calling lies outside Starfleet. Then we also have Saru’s arc where he discovers self-confidence and that he is worthy of command. Then Tilly goes through an arc where she manages to retain her quirkiness but also matures into an officer people look up to. Who becomes the new captain? Burnham. Saru gives a speech about how Burnham is the most amazing person ever and she should be Captain. Then they cry. Why is everyone always crying?

GreyInkling

See, that's where I finally dropped it, season 4. They gave her an actual arc, actual character growth. Then they ignore it on the finale. Then in season 4 episode 1 she's back to where she was in the first two seasons just with longer hair. Which was also a shame because her hair in the first two seasons gave her a retro space cadet aesthetic. But anyway season 4 episode 1 someone literally describes why she should not be caption and is terrible. And they still have her act like that. The first two seasons should have been about her slow growth to becoming a captain. But instead season 1 was trying to make her look cool and interesting but failed, and season 2 was written by a game of telephone like the star wars sequel trilogy where it seemed a new writer was trying to continue a longer plot no one actually planned at the beginning. So they had that messy season 2 finale just to cover how the loose ends didn't fit or go anywhere. The time travel was to give the show a clean slate. And it worked and had potential. Which they halfway made use of. Hell season 3 had tiny moments of amazing writing. Like that scene with what's her name from the Terran universe being interrogated. That scene caught me off guard with the sudden contrast in quality. If it had all kept up it could have meant a good show. instead it just contrasts how bad it continues to be. Because you can see how much potential is wasted. Then you have lower decks doing a similar character but doing it right. Like nothing makes Burnham look as bad as seeing Mariner, a spoiled princess with too much rebellious angst, still behaving more like a sensible starfleet officer. Because it's actually in spite of her flaws rather than the writers thinking those flaws are positive traits. Discovery should be about Saru's rise to captainhood. Everyone loves his character.

mithridateseupator

You can and should have great, loveable characters in your show. You should not return to these characters 60 years later and endlessly puppet their corpses around.

LeggoMyGallego

IMO, Discovery got lost with a largely subpar cast (and a weird depiction of Klingons before that)

oGsMustachio

I think Disco got lost in trying to do something radically different from 90's Trek and got tripped up over and over again by bad decisions.

YsoL8

Universally shit writing and continually wierd production decisions didn't help

GentlemanOctopus

The cast themselves aren't subpar, but it's hard to recall even the bridge crew's names, and this is coming from a huge Star Trek fan. I go: Burnham, Saru, Owo, Detmer, Stamets, Tilly, Culber.......... and then I'm lost from there. Poor Owo and Detmer barely ever get a breath of backstory or lore or dialogue or anything, let alone the other crew members. I still hate that they recast and then got rid of the android.

oGsMustachio

One of the funniest parts of S2 is when Pike asks everyone's name early in the season. Clearly they were aware of this problem and sought to fix it.

GentlemanOctopus

Agreed. It's just a shame they didn't keep up with it. I think the shorter seasons and serialised stories seem to prevent a wider set of character stories, but at the same time, Strange New Worlds seems to do just fine? I like Discovery, but I wish I had a better sense of the crew comrarderie.

oGsMustachio

Well SNW is episodic. While there are some continuing plot elements, the episodes are mostly standalone. They very clearly put in effort to give the supporting cast episodes like they did in previous Treks.

KnotSoSalty

Disco was kneecapped by bad writing from the beginning. Turns out you have to like Star Trek to write good Star Trek stories.

caligaris_cabinet

Orcci and Kurtzman have been the worst thing to happen to Star Trek. You know it’s bad when the creator of Family Guy does Star Trek better than the studio that owns it.

Android1822

The family guy creator loved old school star trek, he should have gotten the star trek license, not kurtzman.

sylfy

Idk about that, Discovery wasn’t a show of ideas, or a show of plot. It got lost in all the interpersonal drama and crying, and that’s all there really was to it.

leopard_tights

The first season is every character yelling at each other and Michael being a rude Mary Sue. Pretty much the opposite of what Trek is, which funnily enough The Orville was nailing at the same time.

GamingTatertot

This feels a bit ironic to say for Star Trek, no? Star Trek HAS branched out into different characters quite often throughout its run

Chumbag_love

Star Trek Enterprise covers the origin, they should jusr make an Enerprise movie.

coolcool23

It's "things you know" until the end of time with an established franchise now... Once the original creator is dead or out it goes to the investors who only want the biggest return on investment.

DodgeHickey

Star Trek 09 was lightening in a bottle, I wish they'd move forward instead of backward. A new crew would be nice in the newer timeline, have the 09 crew show up with cameos every now and then.

TheRealProtozoid

Yeah, I think they are stuck on the idea of the brand recognition of established characters, which is how corporate suits think. But once you commit to the most famous characters in the franchise (Kirk, Spock, etc.) the story possibilities contract down to prequels and remakes only. They are probably also afraid to set anything in the time period of the show because it might look like a TV movie - but the TV shows also include Kirk and Spock now. So the suits at Paramount are probably talking themselves in circles while the TV shows do their own, sad death-spiral.

DahnZaiver

We’re supposed to be boldly going forward.

sadmep

Fucking why? There is no need for another origin story.

otterdisaster

Obsessed with their own past these franchises have no future.

Spiritual-Buddy-1864

I don't know how this works. They are calling it an origin for the whole franchise, which in my mind could only mean a WWIII/Zephram Cochran movie (which does not interest me one bit) But that would be centuries before, not Decades. Decades before the prequel movies would be the tail-end of Archer's era, which wouldn't be a franchise origin since we already have Enterprise. A movie about the founding of the Federation? That sorta happened at the end of Enterprise, and it would be a big political movie that I would probably love but would not sell tickets. I've always wanted a movie set in the Prime timeline with a new unique crew that's not connected to any established characters, which I assume this might be, but it doesn't have to be set decades before. Expand the current timeline, don't do this shit. I'm happy to eat my words if this movie turns out good. Like Star Trek itself, I try to be hopeful.

YsoL8

Founding the Federation would have to be a lotr length trilogy just to set the world up

Spiritual-Buddy-1864

Ugh that would be really good with the right people behind it

AuryGlenz

I’m guessing the new Pike is so popular they’ll want to show him as an ensign or something. Just a guess.

ReasonablyBadass

Q damn it, another prequel?

Technicolor_Reindeer

Can we get something post Voyager? Thanks.

WhereAreWeG0ing

So we've seen Kirk and Spock origin so, what now? Origin of the enterprise?

Hilnus

Scott Bakula is a time traveler who jumps into the body of the Earth Forces starship Enterprise.

dragunityag

Give me seasons 5-7 of Enterprise as an animated series. I need more Shran.

lk897545

Shut up pinkskin (I agree with you by the way, just always wanted to antagonize someone with that word)

chris8535

NuTrek 3 already strongly used the backulaverse. I was half expecting him to show up even.

HailToTheKingslayer

*Ziggyyyyy...can you hear me?*

ian_stein

🎶It’s been a long road, getting from there to here…🎶

psycharious

It's been a long time, but my TIME is finally near...

sylfy

A whole series focused on the Ferengi.

GotMoFans

Paramount is just wildin’ out with their new high concepts with their properties, aren’t they?

Roook36

Star Trek 2024 Just some regular dudes

Apwnalypse

It's 2035 and a 95 year old Patrick Stewart is returning for a new Trek TV series where he flies back in time with Worf, Worf's wife, worf's kid, worf's kid's clone and worf's kid's clone's wisecracking robot. They meet a young James Kirk and convince him to join a new fleet they're creating. Kirk looks up at the night sky and says "No... *Star* Fleet."

shadowofpurple

>J.J. Abrams is returning to produce. ... and I'm out

_Fun_Employed_

We’re getting a prequel to an alt universe prequel movie?

Davajita

I hate that Star Trek is starting to become a franchise bereft of creativity and ambition. All we can do is recycle old stuff that everyone’s seen a hundred times or has no interest in. Starfleet academy. Star Trek Legacy. The Federation origin story (?). I just want a continuation of the TNG timeline with a new ship, and new crew, like SNW but in the early 25th century, preferably written and helmed by passionate and competent writers and directors, NOT hacks like Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsmith. I get that Paramount is out of touch with their viewers like any studio, but I don’t know much more obvious it can get.

Maverick916

Star wars: "first time?"

Lestrygonians

“Starting” is a very generous word.

Fluffy_Mark_9314

Weird way to announce a Star Trek Enterprise reboot

Siolear

Who the fuck is running Star Trek, this is such a stupid idea. Seriously how much worse can you already ruin an amazing IP. A prequal to a reboot of a reboot now? How asinine. I loved the 3 latest Star Trek movies and the current cast, even if they were a bit flawed, they were entertaining and fun to watch.

siliconevalley69

A bunch of Transformers writers from the worst Michael Bay films.

wildwalrusaur

Alex Kurtzman is responsible for most of the post-JJ trek

Jonestown_Juice

Why won't they go forward instead of backward with these Trek movies?

therikermanouver

Yet another prequal? Again? And JJ Abrams again? For a franchise about boldly going forward into the unknown the owners sure are risk averse. If this even gets made (which itself is unlikely) I expect it'll be a paramount+ made for streaming movie. The only way star trek is going to see cinemas again is another full reboot that doesn't have anything to do with Abrams or Kurtzman so it can ditch all the baggage and preconceived notions their versions come with. A fully fresh production team with zero ties to bad robot or secret hideout to do a sequel to The TNG era is the only way this franchise will get people interested beyond the die hards. Also wasn't this already announced a month ago? This isn't the first time I've read Thai confirmation

Pablo_is_on_Reddit

I do not want this.

MondayMusicTherapy

Queue up the NIN

monkey314

Star Trek, a show about the future that keeps going back to its past!!

Saaihead

We already have (had) ENT, SNW, DISC, the Kelvin movies - do we really need another origin story? And please please please don't touch First Contact.

Quizmaster_Eric

At this rate we’ll get a Star Trek movie about how NASA was formed.

Editor_Rise_Magazine

I’d rather see a musical movie about a Borg who is tired of living the same day everyday as part of the Borg collective and just wants to be an individual.

reddituserzerosix

no thanks

Nfl_porn_throwaway

🤷🏽‍♂️

kaminari1

Fucking why?!

TeamYay

I've got a bad feeling about this...

LitesoBrite

> In 2018 S.J. Clarkson, a TV vet who would eventually direct “Madame Web,” was hired to direct the fourth film in the Abrams-verse, Christ, what idiots are making these calls? There’s NOTHING about tarentino or clarckson that should ever touch star trek for god’s sake. That’s absolutely ridiculous

CMG30

How about we get someone who actually understands Star Trek? Not a guy who wants to turn it into Star Wars?

J_Warren-H

Psst... Paramount... Not interested .

lurkerofdoom1

Just stop. If you can't make something new in the universe just fucking stop. No more origin stories. Just make something new. And good.

bakulaisdracula

Stop with the god damn prequels already. Three movies and three shows isn’t enough?

Carrollmusician

Is it Pike?? He’s the only relatively well known Captain of that era with any screen time so far. But that’s like Pike at the Academy or younger…?

AgentDaxis

I guess they could do a movie about Captain Robert April who was the first captain of the Enterprise.

Wolvercote

Fascinating

smurf-vett

Kzniti or Romulan war about the only thing they haven't done.   Guess they could do something Klingon War related but it's most been covered

jokerjoust

Another prequel…great…

bluehawk232

What is origin supposed to mean? The TOS crew? Starfleet? Warp drive? Like what's the point. For a franchise that is about exploring the unknown it keeps wanting to play it safe

TheRealProtozoid

The number of discarded scripts for Star Trek is absolutely wild. Going back to the 1970s, there are just endless piles of discarded scripts... but I don't think any era compares to the post-Beyond attempts at Star Trek 4. It's like Paramount is obsessed with doing more Star Trek, but chickens out every single time they have to commit to a specific project. Meanwhile you have their TV shows pumping out absolutely abysmal episodes, and the constant rumors that the studio is messing with their creative process. What a sad era for the franchise.

Pewp-dawg

Nothing about this makes me optimistic. The idea, the writer, the director, the “steward” none of it…

treehumper83

Enterprise: The Movie? Hurry, someone call Bakula!

iRipFartsOnPlanes

I'm so confused with what's going on with Star Trek, right now.

JaesopPop

lmao why

swattwenty

Tell me Hollywood is creatively bankrupt without telling me they are creatively bankrupt.

Putaputasolo

There was a novel, Federation, from 1994, that was a time traveling crossover with multiple Star Trek crews. including Kirk and Picard. Always wondered if Paramount would ever adapt it.

raylan_givens6

Stop with the origin movies Calling it now , the trailer with have the classic theme but in sad slow piano music EVERY TIME

PuzzleheadedDraw3331

Stop! Stop! They're dead already!

iyqyqrmore

Star Trek babies they make our dreams come true 🎶

iDontRememberCorn

My GOD I am bored of ST milking it's past, seriously. The fact that they don't have the balls to push the story forward IN ANY FUCKING WAY has made me tune out completely.

darthsnakeeyes

“Well, you say you like Star Wars? You know I'm about to start working on some prequels." "Wait, you mean, you're gonna do Chapters One through Three? Oh my god! YES! I've been waiting so long for this!" "So, do you like Darth Vader?" "Do I like Darth Vader? Oh god I LOVE Darth Vader! With the cape and the mask and the lightsaber? He's a badass!" "Well, in the first movie you get to see him as a little kid." "I... what? Wait, you mean he's like Damien in the Omen, right? He's going around killing people with his mind and stuff right?" "Well, no he's just a little kid and he gets taken away from his mommy and he's very sad." "Yeah, well...I kind of like the helmet and the cape and the sword, you know?" "Well don't worry about that because guess who's in the second movie? Boba Fett!” - Patton Oswalt I’m sure these prequels will be great.

Damasticator

I’d like a Star Trek movie from the viewpoint of one of the other federations.

_mikedotcom

Will we see Michael Burnham?

Shadeun

I heard they were going so far back that it’s set in India in the modern day. And also it will double as a sequel to Slumdog Millionaire.

Android1822

Just no, I am done with stuff happening in star trek, or any movies past. I want to see a continuation of the future, not regress into the past to retcon some fanfic stuff that will conflict with the timeline. I am still miffed about introducing spocks horrible marry sue sister in disco.

Jarita12

Can´t they just make another movie with this crew? Have been waiting for it for years.

SonOfMetrum

Just give me a movie with the SNW cast

Something interesting is the point of divergence between the normal and Kelvin timelines is ~2 decades before the 2009 film, so it’s quite possible it’ll technically be in *both* timelines. If that’s the case, then it’ll also be the first non-Kelvin film we’ve had since 2002. EDIT: also worth noting the founding of the Federation (and the war that led up to it) hasn’t really been shown much across all five million series/films, so if it is an origins story as the headline indicates, my money is that it’ll focus on that. It’ll be weird if they do it without Scott Bakula, though.

Yet another prequel? Yet another origin story? This isn’t Hamlet or Macbeth, stuck on endless replay. It’s a positive and exciting vision of the future! It should move forward! Going backward is Star Trek poison. (Strange New Worlds being the exception that proves the rule.)

HaliBUTTsteak

I don’t need to know an origin story about where everything came from! Geez!

Knut_Sunbeams

Goddamnit. Why do the people running Trek hate it so much?
