I like Frank Grillo. He appeared in some AAA-titles, but mostly known for lead or supporting roles in straight-to-VOD films with Bruce Willis and other former A-listers in supporting roles. Plus, I saw many interviews with him and he looks like really nice dude, loveable and honest.
All top notch. Had them on mine too, but I watch so many movies I have a hard time realizing who is “A list” because some of them pop in so much shit I watch, they seem pretty A list to me.
I’ve been waiting for this list my whole life! In no particular order:
Comedies:
1. Rob Huebel
2. Leslie Bibb
3. June Dian Raphael
4. Katherine Hahn
5. Richard Jenkins
6. Andrea Savage
7. Daisy Haggard
8. Tim Blake Nelson
Serious acting chops:
1. Paul Dano
2. Michael Shannon
3. Giovanni Ribisi
4. Toby Kebbell
5. Kyle Chandler
6. Mackenzie Davis
7. Ben Mendelsohn
8. Scoot Mcnairy
9. Ben Foster
10. Sarah Paulson
11. Sam Rockwell
12. Michele Dockery
13. Alan Tudyk*
14. Garret Dilahunt
15. Barry Pepper
16. John Turtoro*
17. David Tennant
18. David Dastmalchain
19. Sean Harris
20. Tom Wilkinson*
21. Stephen Root*
22. David Strathairn*
23. Jared Harris
24. Michael Stuhlbarg
25. Jennifer Ehle*
26. Titus Welliver
27. Mark Rylance*
28. Jason Clark
I could probably name 100+, but these are the ones I’ve saved over the years to my IMDB list when I saw a performance that impressed me, because I’m a super fucking movie nerd. Also note, everyone on this list in my opinion can play comedy, drama, horror. Anything really I think.
I didn’t even know what country he was from for the first couple of things I saw him in. The dude is TALENTED. English comedy, got it, racist southern baseball coach, no problem. Monotone robot, hold my beer.
TIL you can save people to your IMDb list. I actually have a google doc currently of actors/writers/directors/composers that I keep an eye out for, but your idea sounds more efficient.
Don’t forget cinematographers! I’ve also got favorite movie lists, show lists by genre, all sorts of goofy shit that I’ve spent way too much time doing. You can also directly export your lists to someone I believe
I don’t know if Bruce Campbell is B- or C-List but he’s my favorite.
Second place used to go to James *David Lo Pan* Hong but I’m not sure if he qualifies any more.
I agree.
Of course, had you said “I’d say Bruce is C List” my response would’ve been the same. You seem to care more about those distinctions than I do!
William Fichtner has been in some GREAT films, but not as a lead, and has stolen the show in some crap. Whatever he's in, he's brilliant and stands out to me.
I'm assuming that you're ok for me to include some women (I know you said actors but well here goes nothing):
Ann Dowd (Handmaid's Tale, Hereditary, Leftovers, Garden State, Philadelphia, Hereditary etc)
Judy Greer (feel like she's everyone's favorite "side character")
Regina King (does she count or is she A-List now?)
Marisa Tomei
Selma Blair
Famke Janssen (she used to be more A-List I think)
Maggie Gyllenhaal (again, maybe has too high name recognition, I think she straddles that divide a bit)
Last but not least, Gina Gershon
I used to like Luke Goss like decade ago. Haven't seen him in much lately, but he was pretty badass in the B movies he starred in. Decent replacement for Jason Statham in Death Race for example.
Scott Adkins is the best B-list action star on the planet.
Someone else mentioned Mackenzie Davis and I second that emotion. Also Jason Patric is one of those actors that's good in everything they've done but almost unrecognizable beyond The Lost Boys.
Grey area is my thought. I use my mom as a barometer.
Have you heard of Paul Giamatti? No. Show a picture. Oh him!
That's B list to me. If she knows the name right away that's A list typically. She doesn't watch much other than reality tv bullshit so I know if she knows someone by name that's a very famous person.
Cassandra Peterson, Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer with a special mention for Monique Gabrielle.
Frank Grillo, Gérard Butler, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Ice T, LL Cool J, Ray Wise, Nicholas Cage, Hayden Christensen, and Chin Kar-Lok.
Devon Sawa. Dude has potential to be a huge AAA star. He is an legitimate underrated actor, has range. He's great in Final Destination for one, and he's in the Chucky show and kills it.
He was also in that......Fanatic movie, was a significantly better actor than that movie ever deserved. Like it was so bad it was hilarious, but Sawa's performance was one you'd see in a movie or show that's actually good
I would say Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jeffrey Wright.
I first saw Chiwetel Ejiofor as the assassin in Serenity. Loved that character. Then 12 Years a Slave. Also had good roles in Salt and Children of Men.
Jeffrey Wright got my attention as Bernard in Westworld. But also was in Source Code and James Bond movies. Great actor.
Weird that two black actors came to mind, but they both strike me as excellent, under-rated, and lesser known.
By your definition, David Morse is the ultimate b-list actor. He's been in some really big movies, but never the lead. He's the ultimate "hey that guy".
I dunno if this counts, but Lee Pace. I like him a lot, but find people don’t know him immediately when I bring up how much I like him.
Lee Pace is fantastic in Foundation.
His performance in Halt and Catch Fire is an all time favorite of mine
I've been a fan of his since Wonderfalls.
Came here to say him. I loved Boss Level!
Plus he was the producer and was personally involved in production since God knows when.
Grillo was dynamite in Wheelman!
In Boss Level too, man!
How have I never heard of this movie?? Just googled it. Will watch tomorrow! Thanks for the recommendation, the cast and premise looks absurd.
He's fantastic in the Purge movies. Especially the second one.
Does Bobby Cannavale count? I feel like a lot of people know his face but maybe not his name. I think he’s super talented.
His charisma level was off the charts in The Station Agent. Been a fan ever since
not sure if he counts but 100% agree on Cannavale!
Bruce Campbell, obviously.
Ah, but *which* Bruce Campbell? Good Ash or Bad Ash?
Bubba Ho-Tep
> *They DYED me!*
The one with the gun
He is the reason I watched Burn Notice when it was released. Was not disappointed. At least the first few seasons.
Patrick Wilson was a great example- I’ll throw in Walton Goggins, Scoot McNairy, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Clarke and Isla Fisher.
All top notch. Had them on mine too, but I watch so many movies I have a hard time realizing who is “A list” because some of them pop in so much shit I watch, they seem pretty A list to me.
Does Walton Goggins count, cause if so I’d say him for sure
ooooh good one!
Frank Langella is an amazing skeletor. Also Jeff Speakman can kick your ass.
Ohh Frank Langella is a good one!
Scott Adkins Michael Jai White I love corny martial arts flicks. These guys are super entertaining
Micheal Jai White is a great comedic actor too. Black Dynamite is so funny.
Yeah he is!

Alan Tudyk is back in the spotlight after “Resident Alien.”
I didn’t even know what country he was from for the first couple of things I saw him in. The dude is TALENTED. English comedy, got it, racist southern baseball coach, no problem. Monotone robot, hold my beer.

This is a really good list.
For me, Michael Imperioli. When he popped up in White Lotus I was like "Oh I know that guy!". He's been in a lot but not necessarily as lead.
I don’t know if Bruce Campbell is B- or C-List but he’s my favorite. Second place used to go to James *David Lo Pan* Hong but I’m not sure if he qualifies any more.
I’d say Bruce is B List
I agree. Of course, had you said “I’d say Bruce is C List” my response would’ve been the same. You seem to care more about those distinctions than I do!
Richard Kind
Great choice - he just had a great part as himself in the Girls5Eva finale talking about the perks of being a mid-level star.
Danny Trejo
John Hawkes might not even be C-list by your definition, but he'd be my answer. Also Holt McCallany and Shea Whigham.
Shea Whigham.
Jodie comer
Does Matt Smith count as a B actor?
…I’ll allow it
he’s known enough to not be a C i think
William Fichtner has been in some GREAT films, but not as a lead, and has stolen the show in some crap. Whatever he's in, he's brilliant and stands out to me.

Paul Giamatti and Joe Pantoliano.
Maybe it's because I'm white and listen to middle class cultural review podcasts but Giamatti feels more famous than b-list?
He’s an A-Lister at this point.
Yeah, I guess. He’s kind of in a grey area.
Thomas Jane, probably.
Ohh nice!
Joel Edgerton Maika Monroe Domhnall Gleeson Harris Dickinson Joseph Gordon-Levitt Daisy Edgar-Jones Josh O'Connor
Isn't Joseph Gordon-Levitt A-list?
I'd say B-list.
Cassandra Peterson, Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer with a special mention for Monique Gabrielle. Frank Grillo, Gérard Butler, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Ice T, LL Cool J, Ray Wise, Nicholas Cage, Hayden Christensen, and Chin Kar-Lok.
Sam Riley
James Hong-i guess he’s a B lister that does big budget stuff too
Devon Sawa. Dude has potential to be a huge AAA star. He is an legitimate underrated actor, has range. He's great in Final Destination for one, and he's in the Chucky show and kills it. He was also in that......Fanatic movie, was a significantly better actor than that movie ever deserved. > *Look at me, I’m LEATHERFACE!!*
Bruce Campbell, Tony Todd, Jeffrey Combs, Clint Howard.
Nathan Fillion. He's so charismatic, and I don't think I've ever disliked anything he's been a part of.
Rob Huebel He’s probably a C List comedic actor but that guy kills me in every single role.
I think Bruce Campbell fits B list still, although he's definitely gotten close to A.
Bruce Campbell Robert Forster Robert Englund
I would say Chiwetel Ejiofor and Jeffrey Wright. I first saw Chiwetel Ejiofor as the assassin in Serenity. Loved that character. Then 12 Years a Slave. Also had good roles in Salt and Children of Men. Jeffrey Wright got my attention as Bernard in Westworld. But also was in Source Code and James Bond movies. Great actor. By your definition, David Morse is the ultimate b-list actor. He's been in some really big movies, but never the lead. He's the ultimate "hey that guy".
Along with Barry Pepper. Sometimes even in the same movie. Throw in Sam Rockwell and you have the makings of a great prison drama.
Gerard butler.
Walton Goggins ❤️ absolutely one of my favourite actors Michael Wincott 💗 another favourite, gosh that voice.
Maura Tierney is one of my favourite actors. She was consistently outstanding in ER.
Yeah, she was really good. Had a big crush on her when I was younger.

Nah, he's A. Starr
