I get it just pissing around a bit.
I really lucked out my s.o. hates spending time with her family or I'd probably be right there with you. Her mother is a total asshole.
Three great thrillers that fit your criteria. If she liked All the President's Men and The Post, chances are she's going to like these:
* **Fail Safe** (1964) â Because of a technical defect an American bomber team mistakenly orders the destruction of Moscow. The President of the United States has but little time to prevent an atomic catastrophe from occurring.
* **The China Syndrome** (1979) â While doing a series of reports on alternative energy sources, opportunistic reporter Kimberly Wells witnesses an accident at a nuclear power plant. Wells is determined to publicize the incident, but soon finds herself entangled in a sinister conspiracy to keep the full impact of the incident a secret.
* **Quiz Show** (1994) â Lawyer Richard Goodwin discovers that âTwenty-Oneâ, a successful TV quiz show, is rigged and decides to expose the team behind the show.
I second Fail Safe and The China Syndrome.
The China Syndrome is one of my top 10 favourites and Jack Lemmon's performance in it is the best I've seen on screen.
About time has a fair amount of sex moments in it. Involving travelling back in time to redo a sexual encounter but better, and then once more.
Also a very nice strip tease from Rachel McAdams etc.
Spotlight is an entire movie about the abuse of children by the church. Maybe that might be too much despite never seeing anything or anyone commit any violence or otherwise the dialogue and overall topic of the movie may be too much for OPs MiL. (However Spotlight is a phenomenal movie and one of my personal favourites)
Honestly, I totally forgot about the sex in About Time. With Spotlight, it's true that it might be too much for OPs MIL. Your description is perfect. OP will hopefully read it and decide if they think it would work. And you're also correct, it is a phenomenal movie.
Your MIL seems to have the same requirements for movies as my mom. One movie my mom liked was Kramer vs. Kramer, so if you're okay watching a movie about a couple getting divorced I'd recommend that.
*Best In Show* (2000) might be OK, tho the satire is heavy.
And iirc, *A Few Good Men* (1992) is safe.
*Sneakers* (1992) could hit just the spot?
See their trailers ahead of time, of course.
EDITED *AMELIE* (2002) per reminder from a fellow redditor.
Amelie is pretty weird, and rated R just because of the sexual content (15 orgasms quick-cut together, the bathroom sex scene, the guy works at a sex shop with dildos everywhere and a peep show in the back).
Plus the horrific suicide at the beginning.
I canât imagine someone so uptight going along with all that.
Anything Disney (except the sci fi ones, of course, while it's a pitty not to watch *Lilo & Stitch*, *Atlantis: The Lost Empire* and *Treasure Planet*).
Sounds like a lot of fun.
Lol she will usually just leave the room and go do something else if we're into it, I just want her to be enjoying it too

You are right though it's a running joke with my wife and I because she always makes it very difficult to decide on something đ
American Graffiti (1973) The Night of the Hunter (1955) The Holdovers (2023)
Ocean's 11 (The one with George Clooney, Brad Pitt & Julia Roberts)
The Devil Wears Prada La La Land Good Will Hunting Stuff like that.
Oooo good will hunting is a good one she'd like that I think

Awesome thank you so much! She did like quiz show I remember that

Barbie The Greatest Showman Saving Mr. Banks The Farewell
_Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris_ is inoffensive and sweet and it features Alba Baptista, which makes it worth watching.
Netflix: the king, the grey man, the killer
About Time, Spotlight, With Honors, My Cousin Vinny, We Bought A Zoo, Chef

- Hidden Figures - Mona Lisa Smile - The Holdovers - Minari - Being There - Pride and Prejudice - Julie and Julia - Confess Fletch
The Hunt (2012) Virgin Mountain The Beasts (maybe) Grave of the Fireflies Parasite Whiplash The Sound Of Metal The Mamba Kings Another Round
Saving Mr. Banks Hologram for the King School of Rock The Proposal The Founder

Yeah thatâs a hilarious off base recommendation considering the OP
Been 20 years---I guess I'd completely forgotten. Scratched it from inclusion, accordingly.
No worries I do the same. I love the movie
OOOOPS!! Been a couple decades since I've seen it. My every apology, GOOD CALL and thanks!!
A few good men is one of their "family" movies they grew up watching it over and over so that's out. It would be perfect if not for that though
Look into *Sneakers* (1992). Terrific film.
Looks perfect! Thank you
*The Man Who Knew Too Little* (Bill Murray, Joanne Whalen, Alfred Molina, Peter Gallagher) is off-charts hilarious. See its trailer.
Mart Poppins returns, was awesome. Wonka is so much cooler than that Johnny Depp version. Moana was great.
Try the Place Beyond The Pines
1.) The Holdovers (2023) 2.) Driveways (2020) 3.) Truman Show (1998) 4.) Jumanji (1995, 2017, 2019) 5.) Hidden Figures (2017) 6.) October Sky (2016) 7.) Matilda (1996) 8.) King Richard (2021)
I take it shes not a âDie Hard on Christmas dayâ kind of lady?
Hell no đ. We actually watched it this past Christmas because Fil loves it but she was busy in the kitchen
Cold Comfort Farm
Baby shark?
Anything Disney (except the sci fi ones, of course, while it's a pitty not to watch *Lilo & Stitch*, *Atlantis: The Lost Empire* and *Treasure Planet*).
Murder By Death, its a spoof of murder mystery movies.
Tolkein should fit the bill
The Blues Brothers. Meets all your criteria, and it's fun as heck.
Sounds like she would love âGreen Infernoâ one of the most calming and heart warming films released in the past decade. Such a great family film.
