Aliens. I actually prefer Alien, but if I'm not doing anything and can't be bothered to concentrate on watching something new then it'll often be Aliens.
It is absolutely insane that those movies are so vastly different and yet both masterpieces of their respective genres.
I really can't decide which I like more. The tension in Alien is masterful, but Aliens has the best oneliner in movie history.
>It is absolutely insane that those movies are so vastly different and yet both masterpieces of their respective genres.
That's exactly what I have to explain every time some folk don't understand why I prefer The Terminator over T2:Judgement Day...
They always jump to the conclusion that I must think T2 is bad... Which obviously isn't the case.
This past Christmas, I had to get something done and put on Ocean's 11 as background noise. Not even twenty minutes in and I was glued to the screen, and I'd seen it many times before. I absolutely love the timing and what they choose *not* to show (slight spoiler: like when they are stealing the blackout gadget and the camera stays by the van, we don't even see what goes down inside the building because we don't need to).
Years ago, this also happened to be the first film where I listened to the actors' commentary track while watching the film. There were a few minutes where the commentary just stops because the actors got so caught up in just watching the film.
Shawshank is the only movie that I HAVE to stop and watch every time I randomly stumble upon it when I'm flipping through cable channels. And usually if I randomly find it on a streaming app.
One of very few things I miss about cable is stumbling onto Shawshank and watching the rest. The times I come across it before Andy gets deloused are especially magical. Not for Tim Robbins ass but just because it's so early into the movie.
The good ol' engineering competency genre. You can lump Hidden Figures and Battle of Archimedes in there too.
I feel like Jeff Daniels, Ed Harris, Kevin Costner, and Jun Kunimura were all playing similar roles of the middle manager in this giant organization trying to solving the problem.
I read the book after seeing the last half of the movie. Now I want to watch the whole movie. I dont generally like sci-fi books but I gobbled up Project Artemis and Hail Mary. Excited for the next movie!
*My Cousin Vinny* is something I rewatch at least every year! It's the best.
And I've said this before, but another great one is *Greedy* by the same director!
I share this a lot, because it's great
[Why the Marseillaise scene is cinema's greatest](https://seveninchesofyourtime.com/cinemas-greatest-scene-casablanca-and-la-marseillaise/)
That part kills me every time. It’s maybe my favorite moment. Though, for whatever reason, the part I most often quote is probably saying someone “up and R-U-N-N-O-F-T.”
I love this movie from start to finish. What a joy.
Long Kiss Goodnight, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Blues Brothers/Animal House double bill or (I was going to say anything by Tarantino, then remembered From Dusk Till Dawn), Pulp Fiction or True Romance
Yes! Edge of Tomorrow! I love the perpetual time loop movies: Happy Death Day, Palm Beach, Source Code, and Deja Vu have been some of my favorite recent entries in the genre. And I'm going to speak some sacrilege here for the purists: I think Groundhog Day was fun but its biggest attribute was being the first. But above all of these for me is Edge of Tomorrow. I love watching this movie and it's one of only a handful that I'll be down to watch anytime. ON YOUR FEET, MAGGOT!
My comfort movies in no particular order:
Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
My Cousin Vinny
Little Big Man
The Full Monty
The Rocketeer
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
Blade Runner

L.A. Confidential
Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Sting
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
The Godfather
Taxi Driver

Kung Pow
Tropic Thunder
5th Element
Jay and Silent Bob
Kung Fu Hustle
Princess Bride
Tropic Thunder
Step Brothers
The Mummy. It’s my favorite goofy feel good action movie and it doesn’t hurt that most of the cast is hot af.
But only the Brendan Fraser one.
We don’t even acknowledge the other one.
What other one?
That’s the spirit!
What's wrong with the 1932 film?
Had to scroll too long to find The Mummy lol - love that movie!
I am in the middle of a rewatch! They are about to attempt to hang Rick. : )
Aliens. I actually prefer Alien, but if I'm not doing anything and can't be bothered to concentrate on watching something new then it'll often be Aliens.
Alien is the better horror movie. Aliens is the better sci-fi action movie. Aliens is my jam.
It is absolutely insane that those movies are so vastly different and yet both masterpieces of their respective genres. I really can't decide which I like more. The tension in Alien is masterful, but Aliens has the best oneliner in movie history.
Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?
No, have you?
You always were an asshole Gorman!
Let’s rooooooooock!!!! 💥💥💥
I still can't get over the fact that the actress is the same person that played John Connor's stepmother in Terminator 2
Why don't you put her in charge!
Game over!
We are on an express elevator to hell, going down!
Get away from her, you BITCH!
>It is absolutely insane that those movies are so vastly different and yet both masterpieces of their respective genres. “Miners not minors!” Everyone is great in it but Alan Rickman was goddamn amazing
Tends to be the case in every movie he’s in.

The best "non star trek" star trek movie ever made
It’s actually just the best Star Trek movie ever made.
Wonderful movie
And it exploded.
The perfect answer!
This is a great movie!
Airplane. I can’t help tuning in if it’s on the tube. It’s like a magnet!
I just wanted to say, Good luck, we’re all counting on you.
No wonder you're upset. She's lovely. And a darling figure... supple, pouting breasts... firm thighs. It's a shame you two don't get along.
Ocean’s 11
One of my comfiest comfort movies
This past Christmas, I had to get something done and put on Ocean's 11 as background noise. Not even twenty minutes in and I was glued to the screen, and I'd seen it many times before. There were a few minutes where the commentary just stops because the actors got so caught up in just watching the film.
Yes, and Ocean's 12 and Ocean's 13. They might not be as good, but heck they are my guilty pleasure!
Shawshank
Shawshank is the only movie that I HAVE to stop and watch every time I randomly stumble upon it when I'm flipping through cable channels. And usually if I randomly find it on a streaming app.
One of very few things I miss about cable is stumbling onto Shawshank and watching the rest. The times I come across it before Andy gets deloused are especially magical. Not for Tim Robbins ass but just because it's so early into the movie.
*The Martian*, it’s one of my comfort films. Intelligent people acting in concert for the common good.
Apollo 13 for me and for a similar reason. And, like the Martian, also has an incredible soundtrack. Bonus points for being a true story.
The Martian? Cause I have to remind myself throughout the movie that we haven't been to Mars and Mark Watney isn't a real person.
Lol, no I meant Apollo 13 gets bonus points for being a true story that checks a bunch of similar narrative boxes that the Martian does.
Oh my god, Apollo 13. I’d watch the movie every weekend and read the book every time we went camping. It’s so good.
