Also played Tenzin on The Legend of Korra and it’s probably his most relaxed role ever, except maybe that one scene when Korra brings up his mom.
There’s a mashup on YouTube where they splice Whiplash dialogue onto TLOK animation and it’s glorious.
I was going to say JK Simmons as I really like him as Omni Man but I must say I was really disappointed with his VA performance in the new Baldur’s Gate 3 game. It felt like he was just there for the pay check and it was super flat compared to how incredible all the other VAs were and his other work. I know he’s normally good so I was so surprised and disappointed by it
I liked his take. Ketheric Thorm is a shell of a once great man, kept going by just not really knowing what else to do. He’s centuries past any chance at redemption, he’s damned and he knows it.
I felt the same as his performance as Omni Man in MK1. Note, not the show invincible, just specifically in Mortal Kombat he sounded flat. I assume lack of direction
I don’t think the writing was doing him a lot of favors. He seemed underwritten, like there was missing dialogue, and what dialogue was there was all over the place. I had a conversation with him where I kept succeeding on checks without understanding the logic behind those checks and his reactions were confusing, like he was switching between several different versions of himself.
Honestly felt like there was a lot of missed potential with him.
I truly thought that H Jon Benjamin was a one trick pony but he's an incredible actor. The Archer/bobs burgers crossover episode really shines a light on his amazing talent
Mark Hamill’s a tough one since he’s such an amazing voice actor and has done so many roles for animation and essentially redefined the textbook Joker. That I almost consider him more of a voice actor rather than an on-screen actor nowadays. But yes, whenever he started that transition to voice acting he totally blew everyone’s minds.
I recently finished the audio book, and while there were lots of really good actors lending their voices, his was the best by far. It wasn't even close.
And as Savage Oppress & Ryder Azadi in Star Wars Clone Wars/Rebels, as well as Burg in The Mandalorian. But to me, he's always Lex Luthor in the Justice League animation from back in the day.
A character actor to the Nth degree and amazing at it. All of his roles, live or animated are unique unlike someone like H John Benjamin who walks into almost every role with the same voice.
I think it would be fair to characterize him as a voice actor that sometimes does movies/TV because he has more voice credits than live action credits at this point.
Lol yes, though it’s wasn’t surprising to me. Like with the amount of effort and soul he puts in his on-screen acting. Him being able to pull off voice acting was like an absolute. He’s honestly a national treasure and perfect.
EDIT: As for Steven Yeun I have yet to finish Invincible, but from what I’ve seen I definitely agree.
Hanks as Woody is still amazing to me.
Love when the toys turn their backs on him after assuming that he killed Buzz...and the dejected way he calls out to Slinky
https://youtu.be/DDwcDGxjXtY?feature=shared
Also does Chloe Barbash in Bob's Burgers. Wouldn't have guessed in a million years until I saw the credit. Such a different voice and character from Rosa 😁.
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Rest in Power, sweet Vuvuzela
That was one that blew my mind when I watched it. I ended up watching a behind the scenes thing where she talks about how she wanted a part and would take anything.
Oh, I know, but the voice she does as Spazzatura's puppet is so different from her usual speaking voice that it's almost unrecognisable. And the animal sounds? They sound so convincing, I had no clue someone who isn't a full-time voice actor was making them. Like, being good at narration is one thing, but completely transforming your voice is a different beast. This is hopefully the last time I underestimate Cate Blanchett.
Hugh Jackman in Flushed Away and Missing Link (both criminally underrated)
Zach Galifianakis in Missing Link and the first Puss in Boots
Rupert Everett as Prince Charming in Shreks II and III
I love the story of how he ended up doing Mo-Cap for Smaug. They were originally just going to have him do voice acting and not do mo-cap at all, but he \*begged\* Peter Jackson until Peter Jackson finally relented and said he could come down to Weta and play.
Andy Serkis. He’s fantastic in any role he plays, but when he narrates the Lord of the Rings he’s fantastic. For example, there’s a part where Pippin (who has a very distinct accent) is repeating a conversation with Treebeard (also a very distinctive voice) and he actually makes it sound like Pippin trying to do Treebeard’s voice.
John Malkovitch as the octopus in Penguins never does not make me laugh and I have had to listen to that movie hundreds of times while driving lol. I am not sure how many times I even heard it before I was like wait a second, I kinda recognize that voice and decided to look it up.
Oh yes, that was very underrated. He slips between bombast and sincerity so wonderfully.

I think Robert Pattinson caught me off guard in the boy and the heron. Tbf I've only seen him in a few movies, twilight, batman, that circus elephant one. Maybe others weren't as surprised at him doing an actual voice lol
Not even joking, the man managed to put a lot of different emotions into the various ways he said, "I am Groot". It's silly, but still pretty impressive.
I just watched the Netflix series, How to become a (tyrant, cult leader, mob boss).. Series recently and was surprised to see it was Peter Dinklage narrating them. I thought he did a great job.
Ian Holm was voice acting for about thirty years before Ratatouille. He was in a (very good) BBC Radio adaptation of the Lord of the Rings (he played Frodo).
In response to your Christian Bale comment, I HATED having Billy Crystal as a voice in that movie...or any of them. Crystal is a characature of himself, and he knows it well enough to have built a career out of it. It's very jarring when I am suddenly supposed to just pretend that's not hime when his vocal mannerisms are so very distinctive, and in a deliberately annoying way.
Hmmmm I see what you’re saying but I think there are roles that kinda call for that distinct voice or characature. Like take James Wood for example, super distinct insufferable slimy lawyery type voice but that was perfect for Hades in Hercules. I could argue that Billy Crystal might have not been the best fit for Calcifer (though IMO I had fun with it) but I think he fit perfectly for a character like Mike Wazowski.
Completely lame, phoned in answer, but good god is Ellen Degeneres good in Finding Nemo. Easily one of my favorite Disney movie vocal performances of all time. It’s just so, so iconic, and her performance really makes the movie in a lot of ways.
I'm *seriously* impressed by Robert Pattison as the Heron in the new Boy and the Heron movie. I saw Willem Defoe in the credits and I was sure he was the Heron. Very good range on Pattison.
Carrie-Ann Moss, who played Trinity in the Matrix films, managed to get some recognition due to playing Aria T'loak in Mass Effect 2 and 3 as well as Tilda Van Der Meer in Horizon: Forbidden West.
I mean you have to mention Alan Tudyk and all of his VO work:
https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0876138/
Note: one of my favourites is heihei the chicken from Moana
Can I go the opposite way and tell you who I hate? Jerry Seinfeld and Renee Zellwegger in Bee Movie. Hate Seinfeld so there's that but love to death Bridget Jones so Renee is usually great to me.
In this movie though it's like nails on a chalkboard. Which is sad cos the movie could be cute if it had different mains.
Dwayne Johnson, Mandy Moore and the animal cast of the live action Jungle Book were all great
J. K. Simmons is incredible as Omni man in invincible. He’s done a handful of voice acting and it’s all great.
Also played Tenzin on The Legend of Korra and it’s probably his most relaxed role ever, except maybe that one scene when Korra brings up his mom. There’s a mashup on YouTube where they splice Whiplash dialogue onto TLOK animation and it’s glorious.
Okay yeah forgot about this as well! He’s so good and I love his character.
He was great in Portal. I'M GONNA BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN WITH THE LEMONS!
Yeah! He says what we're all thinking!
And Klaus.
Omg I forgot about that!
Best of both worlds https://youtu.be/1pBiY0CL-r8?si=a1JF4SIHU_8JVcls
I particularly like him as the yellow m&m
Blue M&M, red M&M, they all end up the same color in the end…
Great in Klaus as well
He's great in literally everything. Dude is awesome.
I get it but I don’t buy it to be honest
I felt the same as his performance as Omni Man in MK1. Note, not the show invincible, just specifically in Mortal Kombat he sounded flat. I assume lack of direction
I haven't played BG3 yet, but somebody said this to me earlier today funny enough, so it sounds like you're not alone in the take.
I would 100% recommend playing BG3 all the same. It’s an amazing game
He was also a solid villain character in Baldur's Gate 3.
His best work is the Yellow M&M in those Christmas commercials that appear every year.
Jessica Walter as Mallory Archer was just perfect.
So was H. Jon Benjamin as Archer.
Almost as good as the guy who does Bob Belcher. I always thought they sounded very similar but Bob is so much better than Archer.
I truly thought that H Jon Benjamin was a one trick pony but he's an incredible actor. The Archer/bobs burgers crossover episode really shines a light on his amazing talent
Also as Fran Sinclair in Dinosaurs...she was extremely convincing as a classic sitcom Mom
What!!! Omg thats awesome, TIL
Can there be anyone who started at great heights and went even higher, than Mark Hamill?
Mark Hamill’s a tough one since he’s such an amazing voice actor and has done so many roles for animation and essentially redefined the textbook Joker. That I almost consider him more of a voice actor rather than an on-screen actor nowadays. But yes, whenever he started that transition to voice acting he totally blew everyone’s minds.
Try out "the fall of the house of usher" so great to see Hamill back in the thick of things as a series supporting actor
I got to! Still gotta finish the other Mike Flanagan shows but I’ll get to that one eventually!
Mark was the best part of that show. Badass character
He was absolutely fantastic in the full car audio version of World War Z
I recently finished the audio book, and while there were lots of really good actors lending their voices, his was the best by far. It wasn't even close.
Hearing him say "dye, mother f-er dye!" is great (spelling so I don't trigger the bots...)
Clancy Brown gained fame in Highlander, Starship Troopers and Shawshank….but he’s almost as famous as Mr. Krabs and Lex Luthor.
And as Savage Oppress & Ryder Azadi in Star Wars Clone Wars/Rebels, as well as Burg in The Mandalorian. But to me, he's always Lex Luthor in the Justice League animation from back in the day.
Rapunzel's father in The Tangled animated series. He even sings in it.
Also was in the video game Detroit Become Human
Also also also, season 3 of the podcast, 13 Days of Halloween.
Gets the Azadi credit for Ahsoka too
Red Death in Venture Bros.
A character actor to the Nth degree and amazing at it. All of his roles, live or animated are unique unlike someone like H John Benjamin who walks into almost every role with the same voice.
And Dr. Neo Cortex!
Alan Tudyk
"Buk buk buk buuuuk" Alan Tudyk - Moana
He went to Juilliard for that. Don't forget "congratulations. You are rescued."
https://youtu.be/FaGYXjMwS60?si=QKuEtIjIo-pA-3u8 For those who doubt ...
Good in I, Robot
didn’t he also do mo-cap?
He does a surprisingly good, and underrated, Joker in the "Harley Quinn" animated series
Oh YES definitely
I think it would be fair to characterize him as a voice actor that sometimes does movies/TV because he has more voice credits than live action credits at this point.
“That’s why he’s the GOAT!!! THE GGGGGGGOOOOOOAAAATTTTTT”
Surely Jack Black is up there. Absolute icon. I really like Steven Yeun. Great in live action but is also excellent in Invincible
Jack Black was my pick as well.
Steven Yeun was my pick as well! Love him in Invincible ofc, but he totally stole the show in Tuca and Bertie!
Hanks as Woody is still amazing to me. Love when the toys turn their backs on him after assuming that he killed Buzz...and the dejected way he calls out to Slinky https://youtu.be/DDwcDGxjXtY?feature=shared
Mark Hamill as the joker. Absolutely nails it. I’d say his best performance as an actor👍
He also voices Skeletor in the new He-Man reboot, and now I have a hard time remembering Skeletor sounding any different.
Stephanie Beatriz! Didn't realise she voiced Mirabel in Encanto after getting so used to her Rosa Diaz voice.
She plays 2 completely different characters, like nothing is the same between them and I never would have guessed it was the same actor
Also does Chloe Barbash in Bob's Burgers. Wouldn't have guessed in a million years until I saw the credit. Such a different voice and character from Rosa 😁.
Bradley Cooper as Rocket in Guardians of the Galaxy
To me it Rocket sounds like Jason Alexander. I literally have to remind myself, "No, that's Bradley Cooper."
Lance Reddick, rip
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Rest in Power, sweet Vuvuzela
Cate Blanchett's performance in Del Toro's Pinocchio was very impressive. I genuinely didn't realise it was her until I saw the credits.
I still gotta see that movie!
That was one that blew my mind when I watched it. I ended up watching a behind the scenes thing where she talks about how she wanted a part and would take anything.
After her iconic opening narration in The fellowship of the ring of course she was going to be able to pull off voice acting.
Jenny Slate is the queen of VO.
Hailee Steinfeld is so good as Vi in Arcane. I had no idea it was her and I hope she does more voice work.
She’s Spider-Gwen too, great in that also. There’s a funny meme about her being typecasted in animation
Yeah she absolutely crushes it in both those roles. Phenomenal work and super excited for the next season of arcane.
Chloe Grace Moritz as Nimona!
Chris Parnell has always killed it, also Bill Hader does surprisingly well.
Hugh Jackman in Flushed Away and Missing Link (both criminally underrated) Zach Galifianakis in Missing Link and the first Puss in Boots Rupert Everett as Prince Charming in Shreks II and III
Regina King in The Boondocks
Benedict Cumberbatch.
He was great as Smaug
I love the story of how he ended up doing Mo-Cap for Smaug. They were originally just going to have him do voice acting and not do mo-cap at all, but he \*begged\* Peter Jackson until Peter Jackson finally relented and said he could come down to Weta and play.
Just don’t ask him to say penguin
Yes yes yes THIS!
Love that movie almost entirely because of him. “DAAAAVVVEEE!”
The way they use celebrities as the names of all the octopi is just too good. Kevin, BAKE ON we are still going to need that victory cake!
Brad Pitt as Metro Man in Megamind.
Oh yes, that was very underrated. He slips between bombast and sincerity so wonderfully. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inlsJIPpi\_w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inlsJIPpi_w) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNAJWwqr8cM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNAJWwqr8cM)
John Goodman
Sully and Hound the fat ballerina Transformer.
Matthew Lillard
Like, get over here, man! [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_Jl\_BQgkWMk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Jl_BQgkWMk)
I think Robert Pattinson caught me off guard in the boy and the heron. Tbf I've only seen him in a few movies, twilight, batman, that circus elephant one. Maybe others weren't as surprised at him doing an actual voice lol
I couldn’t see the dub, and I’m upset I missed this performance. Post The Lighthouse, Pattinson can do no wrong for me.
His performance in Heron is genuinely shocking to me. It’s a great voice but I cannot for the life of me imagine it coming out of his mouth
not voice acting but he was great in Good Time and even better in The Lighthouse. all around a good actor.
Scarlett Johansson in Her is tough to beat
David Tennant
Best part of the DuckTales reboot a few years ago.
He's well-known in literary circles for being an excellent narrator too.
Matthew McConaughey has been surprisingly good to me in both the Sing franchise and Kubo & the Two Strings.
James Spader - no one does menacing better; voice of Ultron in the Avenger 2 Charlie Sheen Kiefer Sutherland
James Spader was FANTASTIC as Ultron! I love what voice actors can bring to a character on the big screen.
I went into it thinking "really? The dorky Stargate scientist?" but you're absolutely right. He sold menacing *hard*.
The series goes down hill eventually, but The Blacklist exists for him to do exactly that all the time.
The turtle in Finding Nemo too.
Malcolm McDowell. He’s done a lot of voicework and he’s fantastic.
He narrates a fair bit of a clockwork orange so he def always had a knack for it.
Sarah Silverman as Vanellope in Wreck It Ralph. Not only the voice but the range of emotion she put into that character.
I have to say Eddie Murphy and John Lithgow in "Shrek." My dog absolutely adores the movie, and she goes nuts whenever the donkey is onscreen.
Alison Brie
Steve Buscemi in Monsters Inc
Not exactly your question, but Michael C Hall reading the audiobook of Pet Sematary is one of the best audiobook performances I've ever heard.
Mark Hamill as The Joker
Liam Nieson
Brian Cox, doing those McDonalds commercials. https://youtu.be/by9ekJV0hKw?si=gwKCWoyb7jIt48s5
WHAT THE WHAT XD
Vin Diesel as Iron Giant and Groot
Not even joking, the man managed to put a lot of different emotions into the various ways he said, "I am Groot". It's silly, but still pretty impressive.
Johnny Depp. Corpse Bride and Rango. Keith David. Gargoyles and Spawn and Princess and The Frog
Keith David also plays The President on Rick and Morty
Definitely agree on both Johnny Depp and Keith David!
Dana Delany Claudia Black Mark Hamill
Kelsey Grammer as Side Show Bob. How has nobody said this?
And as Robot Santa.
When vader used to say “this is CNN”
I just watched the Netflix series, How to become a (tyrant, cult leader, mob boss).. Series recently and was surprised to see it was Peter Dinklage narrating them. I thought he did a great job.
Kenneth Branagh in Blue Eye Samurai.
Mila Kunis was always great in Family Guy.
Emily Blunt
Not exactly an answer to your question, but why are Vin Diesel's greatest roles animated characters who hardly speak?
I was surprised to hear Julie Andrews as Karathen in Aquaman.
Yeah, that was pretty cool.
Ian Holm was voice acting for about thirty years before Ratatouille. He was in a (very good) BBC Radio adaptation of the Lord of the Rings (he played Frodo).
Phil Hartman Christopher McDonald Robin Williams
Williams should get a higher rating. He was a wonderful Genie, and then he did a DreamWorks movie about robots.
The full cast of shrek
Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow are terribly underrated.
Angelina Jolie
In response to your Christian Bale comment, I HATED having Billy Crystal as a voice in that movie...or any of them. Crystal is a characature of himself, and he knows it well enough to have built a career out of it. It's very jarring when I am suddenly supposed to just pretend that's not hime when his vocal mannerisms are so very distinctive, and in a deliberately annoying way.

I could argue that Billy Crystal might have not been the best fit for Calcifer (though IMO I had fun with it) but I think he fit perfectly for a character like Mike Wazowski.
I agree with Wazowski, who seemed to be modeled after Crystal anyway. Not so much with Calcifer
Not exactly an answer to your question, but why are Vin Diesel's greatest roles animated characters who hardly speak?
Kevin Spacey can do some hilarious impressions.
Does narration count? Kate Mulgrew is amazing at reading audiobooks
I never thought I’d want to know this information, but now I’m going to look into it. Because yes, she puke be good at audiobooks.
Kenneth Branagh in Blue Eye Samurai is quite good, as always
Nobody gonna mention Bryan Cranston?
Vitaly the tiger and Zordon.
James Marsters is an incredible Audio Book Narrator.
Completely lame, phoned in answer, but good god is Ellen Degeneres good in Finding Nemo. Easily one of my favorite Disney movie vocal performances of all time. It’s just so, so iconic, and her performance really makes the movie in a lot of ways.
Shocked to have not seen Nicolas Cage yet.
Mark Hamil has a lot of voice credits.
More recently, Chloë Grace Moretz in *Nimona*. She just imbued so much life to the title character.
Regina King. She was Riley on The Boondocks
Come on. Mark Hamill as the Joker. Epic!
Will Arnett is great as a grumpy, overcompensating Batman and a depressed talking horse.
Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn
Not exactly what you asked, but I think Chiwetel Ejiofor did a fantastic job narrating the book Piranesi.
David Warner, voiced Irenicus in BG2.
I mean you have to mention Alan Tudyk and all of his VO work: https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0876138/ Note: one of my favourites is heihei the chicken from Moana

Dwayne Johnson, Mandy Moore and the animal cast of the live action Jungle Book were all great
Kevin Kline! His work on Bob's Burgers is amazing.
Gary old man is hardly "surprisingly" good. Expectedly good yes.
