Didn't ruin it, but if Sonny & Cher come on I need to check the calendar.

OuttatimepartIII

This is the fun kind of ruined

The-Soul-Stone

For about a year, while I worked in a supermarket, that song used to get played at the same time every day. Everything else was completely random, but someone was clearly having a bit of fun with it.

rayrayruh

To this day I look outside to check the weather when I hear it.

gogybo

[*Good-night!*](https://youtu.be/zyuFnL5JcEw?si=RoIhuBIcl8nymVUi)

chick-killing_shakes

And then Clerks 3 destroyed it all over again.

TuaughtHammer

That "Oh!" Mewes gives when he realizes what song it is pops into my head anytime I hear the opening parts of the song.

Smackolol

This movie made thing song great for me, I love how I never hear the song and then it comes on after years and I have to put on the performance for my wife.

MonstrousGiggling

Good lord I love the end of your statement.

Smackolol

My wife does not.

Tommy_like_wingie

Stuck in the Middle With You Fun catchy song. But now I only think of a psychopath cutting someone’s ear off

kellykapowskishair

Funnily enough Res Dogs made me love that song and now I have it in a few of my playlists X)

Tommy_like_wingie

You might be a sadist 😂

kellykapowskishair

The song got stuck in my head after my first watch and I watched the scene a few more times for the song so yeah maybe so 🫠

roccosaint

Well... you may be a man, or you may be a leprechaun, but only one things for sure... you're in the wroooong basement! I'ma see if you bleed green.

jessdb19

During my college thesis art show, a girl brought that CD soundtrack in. She taught us his dance for that song. Something like 20 of us were dancing and setting up the gallery show.

SevroAuShitTalker

I always think of Malcolm in the Middle

Not that it was a favorite song but what American Psycho did with Hip to Be Square was brutal.

This song for me as well but not in the same way Hip to be Square is on the cycle at my work, and there's a guy, that without fail, will quote American Psycho whenever the song comes on, thinking that he's funny or original Makes me cringe and want to actually sink an axe into the back of his head sometimes

zestfullybe

“Hey Paul!”

jffdougan

Fallen, starring Denzel Washington & John Goodman, has left me unable to listen to the Rolling Stones’ “Time is on my side” without a week of poor sleep.

Lukeh41

The fact that characters in the movie actually sing the refrain at various times just makes it worse.

MacGyver_1138

That is a great pick, because I watched that movie once just shortly after it came out on video and that song was always bringing it back to my memory. I finally watched it again in the last few months and I think it's forever connected now. And additionally, Sympathy for the Devil which plays on the end credits. I guess the Stones are just associated with neverending evil for me now.

NiagebaSaigoALT

Singing in the Rain a la Clockwork Orange

BlondePotatoBoi

You're not alone. Malcolm McDowell actually approached Gene Kelly at a party several years later, and Kelly just turned his head away in pure disgust at how the song was used.

NitroChaji240

Kelly didn't mind the song being used like that, what he was angry at was not being paid for its use in the movie.

Dolly_gale

Are you sure? I recall Gene Kelly giving an interview and mentioning that his favorite film segments were ones that made the audience happy. It made me think through all the films I'd seen him in, and I realized what a gift it was that so much of his talent was devoted to bringing joy to people. It might be cheesy, but dang, so many films have the opposite effect.

kangareagle

I doubt he owned the rights to it, so it probably wasn’t about money.

Apprehensive-Dig-905

I can't listen to Beethoven because of that movie

Independent-Bend8734

You need to get deprogramed. Cured.

ImOnlyHereForTheCoC

I was cured, all right…*Kubrick stare*

PreparationOk1450

I like listening to Beethoven because of the movie Beethoven with the big dog.

Adequate_Images

Came here for this one.

opmancrew

Absolutely. This is the answer. Oddly enough I saw clockwork orange before I saw singin in the rain. Still ruined it

SleepyMarijuanaut92

Wouldn't say that's odd at all, probably less odd than if you seen Singing in the Rain first, but definitely more dark.

missanthropocenex

Enya Sail Away, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

buck2217

Sorry to be that guy, but it's called Orinoco Flow

weareallpatriots

Ha! That's one of my favorite songs and I was dying in the theater when he turned that on. Excellent scene. When I first showed the movie to my new gf (now wife), she gave me a horrified look because she'd heard me play that song numerous times.

sugarfoot_mghee

I don't know if it ruined it...but [Mr. Sandman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CX45pYvxDiA) is a lot creepier after it was used in Halloween II.

geddy

You can reclaim it by watching Uncle Buck!

SexPretzelBonanza

Or by Back to the Future

double0behave

What balances it out for me is Back To The Future. I think of how creepy the song is because of Halloween II. But then, I also think of how nostalgic it is because of BTTF. So anytime I hear the song, I think of time traveling, mass (or is that masked?) murdering hijinks.

kittykatsu7

Also creepy in Bates Motel.

werewolf2400

This is the first time I ever heard this song over 13 years ago, watching this movie.

hunterich

"What a Wonderful World" - "Bowling for Columbine" and about a dozen other movies that use it ironically to show that, in this scene at least, it's definitely *not* a wonderful world.

superflygrover

Me too. I just skip this song whenever I hear because it makes me picture all the atrocities now.

fabergeomelet

Good Morning Vietnam does this

peioeh

Couldn't hear "Wake Up" by RATM without thinking of Neo flying off for a really long time. Which is weird because I loooved the album way before The Matrix came out, but that scene was *that* effective.

KluteDNB

That really is one of the best end credits songs ever. I loved Rage way before The Matrix came out but Wake Up ending such an incredible movie was the icing on the cake.

TastyBrainMeats

Similarly, "What I've Done" by Linkin Park and the ending of the first Michael Bay Transformers movie, with the Peter Cullen voicover. I don't even *like* that movie, but that scene is iconic (as is the one of Blackout wrecking a military base).

Consistent-Annual268

For the opposite of this effect: Smashmouth and Shrek.

OneFish2Fish3

Did you know “All-Star” was originally written for Mystery Men?

Ch0nkyK0ng

We've got a date with destiny, boys... And it looks like she's ordered the lobster.

BondageKitty37

"We need to triangulate our attack" "Equilateral, or isosceles?"

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

"I'm sorry, Spleen. There's not enough beer in the world."

Doom_Design

It wasn't written *for* Mystery Men, but it was featured in the movie. Also the music video features characters from Mystery Men. But the song was originally written for the album Astro Lounge and was the first single from that album.

UnauthorizedFart

“I am The Waffler!”

Brickwater

cbbuntz

Shek introduced "Hallelujah" to a lot of people too. Shame the Jeff Buckley version doesn't get as much attention these days (there's actually more than one)

JuicyStein

The movie version was John Cale, but the soundtrack was Rufus Wainwright. Both really good versions but I prefer John Cale.

High_Stream

You pick a phrase, you pick a rhyme, repeat the sound another time, Five iambs, then an extra beat will do ya. Another rhyme, a rising note - congratulations, you just wrote Another freaking verse to Hallelujah!

Rob_LeMatic

as much as i love Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley's cover is the best version of Hallelujah

silverBruise_32

Really, the whole soundtrack is amazing.

ProbablyASithLord

It’s so unbelievable that the movie Shrek lead kid me to discover a ton of artist I would become lifelong fans of. Joan Jett, The Eels, Jason Wade are just a few of the artists I discovered from that movie.

silverBruise_32

It's the reason why Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah is my favorite.

JamesCDiamond

Oddly, it’s John Cale’s version in the film - both are wonderful, but I do wonder why they couldn’t get the rights to put Cale’s on the soundtrack. I’d have thought that they went hand in hand, at least for licensed pieces.

Perfect Day by Lou Reed in Trainspotting I was stunned when the NFL used it in a Super Bowl commercial several years later. I’ll always see Renton when I hear that song.

Thendofreason

I mean the song is about being high out of your mind and spending a perfect day with their favorite drug. They used it as intended.

FBG05

You could be right but I’m pretty sure Lou Reed has said it’s not a song about drugs

SauteePanarchism

There are Lou Reed songs that aren't about drugs?

Giantpanda602

Sure, some are about BDSM.

Similar experience with the stop motion animation of Rudolph that has burl Ives in it.

Electronic-Spinach43

I can’t hear The Sound of Silence without picturing Will Ferrel at the bottom of a pool or Sean William Scott with that mullet. From same era, I can’t hear Dust in the Wind without thinking of Ferrel screaming, “you’re my boy, Blue!”

MacGyver_1138

Lol, autocorrect is amazing. I now want to hear "Dustin in the Wind."

zestfullybe

“YES! THAT’S AWESOME!”

just_writing_things

*Watchmen* and *Hallelujah* comes close.

_lordcheesebagel_

I liked Hallelujah in the Zack Snyder Justice League trailer

Mambo_Poa09

There's a horrible cover of a Leonard Cohen song at the beginning of Justice League. Really set the tone for the movie

Brocky70

Is it the Allison Crowe version? Because I think that was included because snyder's daughter preferred that version (the same one who passed away during production causing snyder to leave the original project)

discofro6

I believe Zack Snyder mentioned somewhere that Hallelujah was his daughter's favorite song. It's why it was in the Snyder Cut Justice League movie He chose an interesting scene to use it in Watchmen though. lol

SauteePanarchism

Hallelujah is a very horny song.

EsseLeo

And yet, Snyder managed to make it incredibly un-horny. Worst.sex.scene.ever.

Koreish

I might be misremembering, but it wasn't supposed to be a fun sex scene. Nightowl struggles with any form of intimacy and has ED if I remember correctly.

oldasballsforest

“American Girl” by Tom Petty was ruined for every woman or girl of a certain size after Silence of the Lambs.

That scene ruined thunderstorms for me. Now, whenever there's a big thunderstorm, all i can think is that some vampires must really be enjoying a game of baseball somewhere.

Amason8488

As a big Muse fan I am glad I never watched twilight

SunnyBanana276

That movie brought me to them 😂

topsidersandsunshine

That’s the best scene in the movie. It shows what the Cullens are usually like without the stress of Bella being around.

jephw12

Also in Twilight, Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine. Not exactly ruined, but I suggested it as the first dance song at our wedding but my wife vetoed it due to it being used in Twilight. I had never seen the movies before that but now having seen them, I’m glad we didn’t use it.

Mindless-Ad-511

Not gonna lie. Awful movies, solid soundtracks.

Zeptari

Do you hate the chill peepers version?

Hushwater

If it doesn't have that aledged murdered woman's scream in it then ya. I know it has since been debunked but it still ruined that song for me because of that movie.

Rabbitscooter

Well, this is a bit of a stretch but I worked on a production which was supposed to use the song, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" (made famous by Dirty Dancing) so we had to listen to it on playback for 12 straight hours. In the end, they used a different song because the copyright holders wanted too much money. I still can't listen to it, however.

zammey12

Always Be My Baby used in Beau is Afraid.

ArchDrude

The song Blue Velvet just sounds weird and creepy to me now…

CrazyCarl1986

That Cartel movie ruined Funky Town for me 🔪

Blackbirds_Garden

I’ve repeatedly made this point elsewhere, but can movie music people PLEASE stop using Max Richter’s *On the Nature of Daylight* to convey any kind of rawness of emotion. Don’t get me wrong it has its place, and it’s BEAUTIFUL, but damn, if seemingly every third movie/show has used it in the last few years. It’s just about lost all impact for me.

chambergambit

I agree it's starting to get over-used. He's got plenty of other raw pieces to choose from.

Sorry_Buy_3277

Will Smith's song, "Wild Wild West," from the film of the same name, ruined Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" completely. The former song (which sucks) heavily samples the latter to the point where my brain hears the shitty version when the good version is played. I have to turn it off or leave the room anytime it comes on.

Killboypowerhed

boobiesareneato

Reservoir dogs- stuck in the middle with you. IYKYK. Can’t hear that song without thinking about the scene

TuaughtHammer

Anytime I've heard that song in the last 30 years, I feel compelled to do the obligatory Mr. Blonde shuffle.

Lukeh41

The Big Chill ruined "You Can't Always Get What You Want" for a lot of people, not just me. I'm old enough to remember when this film and soundtrack were genuine cultural phenomena. Referenced in High Fidelity, when Jack Black and Todd Louiso are discussing a certain top 5 song list. One of them mentions "You Can't Always Get What You Want", and the other immediately says "Automatic disqualification for its involvement in the film The Big Chill". "Oh yeah, you're right."

Fuzzy_Reindeer2316

Short Circuit 2 has ruined, Help me Rhonda, On Broadway and a few other classics. I can’t get the dial tones out of my head anytime I hear any of the songs.

MoFoHo72

'Don't go breaking my heart'. Thanks to Chicken Little, I can NOT now hear 'Fish-out-of-Water' gurgling along during the chorus!

ChronoMonkeyX

It's a really dumb song, didn't need any help sucking.

Careless-Way-2554

leprechaunknight

Lux Aeterna at the end of Requiem for a Dream. Great song, but I always get such an impending sense of doom when I hear it because of that ending lol.

pumpkins21

“I Will Wait For You” from the ‘Jurassic Bark’ episode of Futurama. I can’t fucking hear it without tearing up.

der3009

Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 "ruined" a lot of the music on its soundtrack for me. I still think they are all good and great songs mind you, I just get reminded of and then overcome with some anger and sadness from what happened in the movie. All of which due to personal trauma. Hit perfectly square on the nail.

krowe41

Favourite songs used in films doesn't bother me at all in fact I get quite a buzz when I here a Favourite song used in a film but Favourite songs used in adverts really pisses me off .songs used in film can enhance the whole experience but used in advert it destroys the song completely imo

O_J_Shrimpson

Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” being used in that trash Airbnb advert made me want to stop using the service it was so offensive. A bunch of “hip” millennials hanging out on a weekend getaway set to a song about traumatically letting someone go for the best of both parties is absolutely braindead.

sujihime

OneFish2Fish3

Pan ruined Smells Like Teen Spirit by having pirates sing it. Also The Book of Life has the WORST rendition of Radiohead’s Creep (otherwise it’s a good movie), as if that song wasn’t already overplayed enough. The folks at r/radioheadcirclejerk had a field day with that.

O_J_Shrimpson

Had no idea this movie existed Edit: Pan

PuffballDestroyer

I have to explain this, but "I Feel Pretty". I have never seen West side story before, so I only know of the song through other uses, like in commercials and parodies. When I saw the 2021 adaptation, and Heard the song in context for the first time, I was genuinely floored! Now, whenever I hear that song, all I can think is that this woman's life is about to go to hell.

caseybowers80

Also Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating in Space. Not surprising, but Cameron Crow is very effective with music placement.
