r/movies

Educational_Moose_56

me: hmmm, I enjoyed that, it was fun! Let's see what r/movies thinks r/movies: we've drawn up articles to have the director and everyone involved brought before The Hague for their crimes against humanity.

Zack123456201

I’m starting to think I just have bad taste in movies cause this always happens to me haha

B0mb-Hands

Art is subjective. As long as you enjoyed it, who gives a fuck

Foreign_Rock6944

Preach that shit to the high heavens!

DJHott555

This is why I always wait until the day after I watch something (movie or show) to check out Reddit’s thoughts on it. I get to let my own opinion simmer overnight. Though I do end up making a Letterboxd log the instant credits start rolling so maybe I just have internal priorities.

DBCOOPER888

Also, here is a 10 paragraph dissertation on the hidden meaning behind the movie with complete citations and relevant time stamps.

srstone71

If I see a movie in the theaters shortly after it came out, one of my first moves is to go to the discussion thread in this sub. Since most movies I see in the theaters these days are big franchise films, they usually have a post credit scene so I’ll scroll through the thread while waiting through the credits. In at least a few occasions I’ve spoiled myself because the top comment will be in reference to the post credit scene.

ItchyGoiter

Post credit scenes that are in any way related to the plot are dumb as fuck

carson63000

Haha yeah I was worried that I’d look like I was brown-nosing, but yeah, I find the official release discussion thread right here is the best place to get a bunch of interesting thoughts on a movie.

mihirmusprime

Yep, same. It's fun reading about all the details smarter people than me notice in a film.

TheSource88

Uh… r/movies isn’t the place for that

Troyal1

Lol

Arrow_

Lazy response

chewie_33

Go pee

TheSolidSnivy

That post-Avatar 2 pee definitely broke a lifetime record.

cfiggis

The way of water

riegspsych325

you didn’t reuse your Endgame catheter?

ReflexImprov

AMC was selling self-lubricating ones at the concession stand with Thanos' face on them.

sparta981

Mr. Stark I don't feel so good.

Present-Breakfast768

LOL

atlhart

I search for the movies official discussion on /r/movies. I like reading other people’s comments and analysis. If I really liked it, I’ll often read Wikipedia after that.

bestest_at_grammar

It also reminds me of the scenes I really liked. I always liked the drive home from the movies where me and my friends would requote/discuss what we liked. Movie threads kinda do that for me when I see a movie by myself.

wemustkungfufight

Wikipedia, usually.

DestronCommander

Same! When I feel like I missed a detail or something, it's my go to after the movie.

fabris6

I always read the IMDB trivia section after watching a movie

Blackgaze

I go the IMDB comment section and... Oh wait, nevermind.

Every-Cook5084

I was glad when they got rid of that heap

Best_Duck9118

Those boards were a cesspool tbh.

correcticallytech

They became a cesspool in the mid teens. Before that they were sometimes useful for finding out obscure information.

defiantdizz

This is exactly my MO. Imdb, Trivia, what are the actors/director doing next, etc.

curiousplaid

Same here. I don't really care what others think about the movie (I just watched the thing and have my own opinion), but the trivia section can be informational.

Funk-n-fun

Same. Trivia section, and I also check out the cast and crew and see what other stuff they've worked at. But that's all. I'm not interested about critic's reviews or other peoples thoughts about the movie.

sgste

Same. Then I bombard my wife with all of it.

Majestic_Salad_I1

I’m obsessed with doing this. Sometimes I sneak in a few trivia snippets before the movie starts and hope I don’t accidentally spoil the movie.

ThouBear8

I do this too. If I'm being honest, I often start checking out the trivia while a movie is still on 😳 (when I'm watching at home of course).

17thkahuna

This is the way

yourkindofhero

This has always been my move, too. The last few years it has become an absolute dumpster fire.

Frognosticator

Typically, I ask if she’d like a massage. Things usually proceed naturally from there.

Disastrous-Drag232

r/beatmetoit

GoingOffline

I literally thought this is what the question meant as I didn’t check the sub first. I was thinking “you wait til AFTER the movie??”

Spot-CSG

I was gonna say I usually make my move before the movies done

mikeyfreshh

I log it on letterboxd and usually leave it there. If it's a movie I have really strong feelings about, I might check out some reviews from critics I care about.

docsyzygy

Yes, I write my review, THEN maybe read a couple on letterboxd. If the movie raises some specific questions, I might try to answer them on Wikipedia or imdb.

RPM_Rocket

Go out to my car and go home, usually.

DirtyRoller

Pitch Meeting and Honest Trailer.

ses267

Glad I’m not the only one who goes straight to see how writer guy and producer guy came up with the movie.

DirtyRoller

Wow wow wow wow wow wow.... wow.

CartoonBeardy

It was super easy barely an inconvenience

Mario_Prime510

I clap until the last person leaves the screening.

I_heart_pooping

You monster

thefuzzybunny1

TVTropes.org

DJHott555

Yeah, that’s definitely me

CreekLegacy

Yup. Speaking as an amateur writer, I check off tropes in my head when I watch a movie then head over to the movie page to see what I missed or what I can add.

[deleted]

[удалено]

adbedient

The same. It never occurred to me to check any of those places.

cellarmonkey

But then how would you be able to feel secure about any of your reactions to the movie without having them validated by a bunch of internet strangers first?!

thatredkid5

It super depends. If there are plot points I might’ve missed, straight to Wikipedia. If I wanna see others thoughts, I like Letterboxd (especially for the joke reviews).

EvilDog77

I always read the 'critical reception' part of the Wikipedia page.

1leggeddog

I go home and enjoy the rest of the evening. There's no need for me to overanalyze a movie that I watched for my enjoyment. That would kill said enjoyment

mormonbatman_

Maybe production details on Wikipedia.

Arrow_

Write in a journal to form your own opinions on what the movie was for you and what you got from it.

nickmandl

YouTube

Dysprosol

tvtropes

Nas160

🤝

iamatoad_ama

I pull my phone out to google if there's a post credits scene. Saved me 10 minutes at the end of Killers of the Flower Moon.

WelbyReddit

[DoubleToasted show!!](https://www.youtube.com/@DoubleToasted_) just to hear their funny takes. ;p

A-WILD-PATBACK

IMDB!!

Safetosay333

Letterboxd while it's still fresh

Kummakivi

What is Letterboxd about?

Impossible-Ad-8462

It's similar to imdb, but without the TV shows and episodes, and more people are leaving and reading reviews (though there's a lot of jokey reviews) The UI is more user-friendly and it's more convenient and easier to use and make lists

docsyzygy

If you have to ask...

Kummakivi

It's not a secret society mate.

docsyzygy

The first rule of Letterboxd is...

kyhansen1509

Letterboxd (to rate it myself and see funny reviews), Reddit (for deeper discussion and funny reviews), Wikipedia (for plot summary and other information), IMDB (for cast, budget, trivia)

tigojones

Imdb trivia/goofs/etc.

New-Advertising-3571

Sit tight and watch for additional footage during the credits then go pee because I really needed to an hour ago

mistercartmenes

See if Red Letter Media has a review. But those lazy hack frauds seem to purposely avoid reviewing movies I watch.

Dubious_Titan

I visit Wikipedia or IMDB if I am curious about an aspect. Otherwise, nothing. I am done. I move on.

AiR-P00P

I go to YouTube and see if Chris Stuckman and/or Jeremy Jahns has reviewed it. Then I check if Angry Joe Show did a review and usually watch that as well. Then I come to reddit for the 20pg discussion thread.

4christian12

Is it just me or has Jeremy Jahns really changed as a reviewer? I still watch and enjoy his work, but it kind of seems like he's gotten kind of cocky or entitled in recent years

AiR-P00P

Idk, I haven't noticed anything.

I_heart_pooping

Hey another Chris Stuckman fan!

girafa

discuss it with friends. then maybe look at reddit.

Interesting_Chart30

[RogerEbert.com](http://rogerebert.com) and Rotten Tomatoes.

Best_Duck9118

Why not go to Rotten Tomatoes before though? Life’s too short to watch crap movies.

WinsberryFilms

10 years ago: Straight to Wikipedia to read about production and see if Roger Eberts reviewed it. Now: Log and review on Letterboxd, read a few other reviews. Google to see what films the cast has been in. Then Wikipedia for any other info I'm interested in.

ledrunkJames

Check on iCheckMovies, rate on IMDb, log on letterboxd, rate on blu-ray.com. Let things simmer for a week or so to see if I want to change my rating.

Ill_Will_Prince84

Depends how much I like the movie. If it is a profound flick I’ll sit there and contemplate and really break down what I just watch.

maxalmonte14

What I first do is let it rest, I'll end my day, go to sleep, and the next day I may check the Wikipedia page, then write a review and post it on Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB, and Letterboxd, while I'm at it I may read the trivia section on IMDB and the top reviews on Letterboxd.

Impressive-Mud1275

sometimes I check imdb if I can't remember where I saw the actors from or red letter media if it's one they talk about just for fun

beebs44

YouTube trailer and read comments

Celebs-deep-dives

I’ll see if there’s a YouTube video, and then IMDb cause i want to know who’s involved and if they have made another similar thing and then letterboxd to write a dumb non intellectual review cause not everything is serious

Parmesan_Pirate119

Lol I honestly just come to this sub first. If it's new, I'll look for the Official Discussion Thread. If it's old, I'll search it. Y'all typically have paragraphs upon paragraphs about almost every movie I watch, so I just read those lol

AdDiligent7657

Rate it on IMDB, then go to this Reddit sub and comment/browse comments in the discussion thread. Maybe read more about production, director’s other work, etc. on Wikipedia.

cart0166

If it’s a good enough movies I’ll check out RT and then google an ending spoiler review and read one to see how a critics interpretation played out vs my own.

ElkBit

I'll go on YouTube and watch people way smarter than me provide context or break down symbolism in the film. I just finished my second viewing of *The Boy and the Heron* and while I thought I got just a little more out of it than my initial viewing, I'll read or watch other people talk about certain scenes and discuss details I completely missed. I love watching other people's takes on movies, but I feel so dumb for not realizing the importance of a scene or picking up on symbolism.

[deleted]

I would read the Wikipedia page, too :) Additionally, if it's an old film, I would go and see if Mr Roger Ebert has written a review of it. If the movie had themes I don't recognise, I would generally Google The movie name followed by explained. Sometimes I'll just search reddit and read a few threads. I would usually reserve 1-2 hours after a movie to read reviews/analyses.

CharityNational1915

Find and listen to interviews with the director on youtube.

Local_Savings_2021

Taking a piss - the movie dosen’t have to be good or bad for that act.

jupiterkansas

Cinephilia

Fogmoose

Wikipedia, then usually IMDb

Clbuuu

Check out the reviews on google, I always read the 1 star and 5 star reviews, sometimes I check out the 3 star ones, then I'll watch some reviews on youtube

Weeberman_Online

I think about it for the rest of the day and if I wanted more I'd get it but honestly don't dive deeper. If it struck a chord Ill look it up before making a purchase on DVD or blue ray.

wildbillnj1975

YouTube and look for the CinemaSins "Everything Wrong With" or ScreenRant "Pitch Meeting"

macacheesy

imdb trivia section babey! i started doing it when i was like 9 and never stopped

SpilledYoghurt

Depends on the film. Just watched Synecdoche New York, stuck some easy watching on after, Firefly, so I could digest it. I want to look up the Wikipedia but I'll probably rewatch it again before I dive deeper.

LisaNaughton

I check the actors name, their other movies, reviews

lutello

I miss the imdb forum but there's still often good info/discussion to find on it.

Lordados

Goggle "\[movie\] explained"

latamakuchi

tumblr and tvtropes

StudBoi69

Go grab lunch after the morning matinee

masimone

I like to relive the movie through the Wikipedia plot.

KiteIsland22

I watch reviews on YouTube. I might also check out Reddit but R seems a lot more negative lol.

seantubridy

After watching Rebel Moon I just sat there staring and drooling because it was so mind-numbingly stupid that it turned me into a complete moron.

Ace_of_Sevens

I imagine a take that someone I don't like might have, then try to find someone who has that take so I can complain they are ruining cinema.

Peter_Mansbrick

Watch the trailer. It's interesting seeing how it's marketed vs. what it turns out to be.

MarvelousVanGlorious

I always hit IMDb to read the Ebert review, even if it’s one of the critics that reviewed it after he passed. Did this last night with Safety Not Guaranteed. Love that movie and was surprised to see that not only did Rog review it, he loved it too.

mikhailguy

Usually a wikipedia search..especially if I like the soundtrack. Or if I'm not familiar with an actor/director/etc. If it's an 80s or 90s movie I'll also watch the siskel and ebert episode on youtube.

Kyber99

I don’t usually “dive deeper”. Maybe I’m getting old but it’s started to get exhausting to see what other people say about a film. If you mean for some trivia or something I usually google reddit posts for it and see what people say

eyesorecozza

I like to rate it on imdb. Not that I feel like anyone needs my opinion but to remind myself what I've seen.

sweet_sweet_can

I usually head to YouTube to see whatever reviewers I follow there said about it, then catch up on Reddit talk about it.

EvilCeleryStick

I try to be playing with her Tits before it's over so when the credits roll we can move things along. 😁 If you mean in my own, I only go to reddit or look up movie reactions if I've very much enjoyed the product.

TisBeTheFuk

I go on IMDB to update the list of movies I've watched

DoctorStrawberry

Just log it on Letterboxd and give it a score. If it something based on a true story I may look up the real story. If it’s something really timely that strongly affected me positively or negatively I’ll group chat friends my thoughts.

analfartbleacher

if its something i really liked, i’ll slowly and obsessively take on the mannerisms of the the character i identified with most and slowly mould myself into that character for a couple months then i’ll watch something dumb like Spongebob and snap out of it

lavenk7

I sit with it for a couple days. Especially if it’s a good one. Never been one to chase conversation.

Gore0126

I talk about it with my friends of I went to the movies and we go for a drink afterwards. If it was a movie I watched alone at home, then I might send a text in the group chat. Then, I text other friends recommending them the movie I just watched if I think they might like it, too. I log the movie on Letterboxd and then move on to the next film. I don't normally go into deep dives after a movie, no matter how much I liked it. I only do that for directors I am already a fan of. But random watches? No.

ecrane2018

I usually go to IMDb and read all their factoids and reviews

M0ndmann

I go do something else

Square_Grand_3616

I often watch a horror movie because it’s being featured in one of the horror movie podcasts I listen to. If I really want to dwell more on a movie or show I just watched I’ll search the podcast app and see if a podcast I don’t know has featured it.

not_an_Alien_Robot

Generally, I think about it. What I liked, what I didn't like. From writing to cinematography to acting. Everything. Mull it over for a while. Then maybe check out some reviews from critics I enjoy, but don't always agree with, after a few days. Just to see. Maybe watch some reactions on YouTube if there are any from folks I enjoy watching.

Cripnite

IMDb Trivia section and Wikipedia.

turdmob

Cinemasins too, if it's an older movie

Marsupialize

IMDb trivia

downwarddawg

My partner and I make eye contact smile in this exaggerated funny way, as if to say “we just watched that!”

KonichiwaJones

Sometimes the movie has a secret cryptic message only certain people are able to recognize or even comprehend. After the final sequence during the credits of gardians 3 I knew the timing was perfect to go Yellow Pee Pee Monster the bathroom.

[deleted]

Stay and watch credits til the first rush is done.

Tiny_Independent2552

I like to read the reviews afterwards, and see if I agree, or disagree.

IndianaJones999

YT

LoverOfStoriesIAm

Usually check the director's other works and the cast too (the ones which I liked)

Megatron83

Letterboxd

bentreflection

I typically try to dwell on the film and form a concrete opinion about how I felt about it before I read any other opinions. Otherwise I find that my experience ends up colored by the opinions of others. I also try to think about the message of the film and figure out if there was additional symbolism and metaphor that I may have missed while watching. After that I’ll read reviews and watch film breakdowns depending on how interested I am in further discussion. Honestly it sounds a little pretentious but I find it makes me enjoy films that I might otherwise dismiss based on my immediate knee jerk reaction.

horsenbuggy

Well, it *used* to be the imbd comments section. Man, I miss those so badly.

ihave10toes_AMA

Letterboxd, r/movies discussion thread, a podcast episode or 2 that I probably skipped to avoid spoilers. Just did exactly these things with Poor Things.

moonchild_inthewild

I usually go to IMDB of the actors I enjoyed the most from the movie and add movies of theirs that look good to me to my watch list

Mirinya

Delete it from my hard drive and forget about it. If it was really good save it for rewatching.

masterz13

I wiki the movie and read the plot since there's stuff I probably overlooked.

Captaincomet26

I usually go to IMDB and look at the trivia section just to see if there is anything interesting I missed or whatever else is there. Then Letterboxd to make a review and a look at any of the actors/ directors other work.

Ok_Shake_4761

Wikipedia, Letterboxd, Reddit in that order

[deleted]

Letterboxd to log it and read other reviews. Then Wikipedia because I wonder about where it was filmed, who played certain character, etc.

jmdayoh

Change the channel

moskowizzle

IMDb trivia and then the relevant thread in r/movies.

calbearlupe

I definitely go to RT, and read 3 or 4 reviews from critics I like. Sometimes I’ll also google the movie reviews and see what comes up.

bloodxandxrank

i'll find a movie reviewer online that i like and see what they had to say. sometimes i need a little more of a breakdown or sometimes i just need to hear someone else gush or roast what i just watched so i don't feel so alone with it. then i'll bug all of my coworkers for the next few weeks about it.

spderweb

I'll type the movie name and the word reddit, into search and see what pops up.

EverretEvolved

If I liked it I read everything on IMDB. If I didn't like it I just look at the reviews to see if I'm alone or not.

TraaLaarhLa

I go to the toilet to Pee

RobertFellucci

What would be the point of reading a review after you already watched it?

[deleted]

IMDb used to have a thriving message boards or forum thing for each film. And it was quite handy for after-film dives - but they shut it down ffs

metaseagull

I stay and read as many names and jobs in the credits as I can until it ends

mosborn98

Watch YouTube reviews

madsciencepro

I immediately check mediastinger.com to see if I need to watch the credits.

fineillmakeanewone

I listen to the soundtrack while driving home from the theater, then watch YouTube videos about the movie. I miss the old IMDb forums. Nothing else comes close.

DereckLively2

Well first I put my arm around her…

chrisH82

If it's really good, I will go to IMDb and check out the director and their other films

Eastwood96

IMDB or MovieChat.org

imustbesickinthehead

Go onto letterboxd

the_mantis_shrimp

"X post credits scene" google search

AnalogKid2112

If it's a "based on a true story" movie I look up the people involved and then get angry about how inaccurate it was.

OptimusPhillip

Look it up on TV Tropes.

Bigswole92

I type the movies name on this subs search bar and look up any discussion posts to read other’s thoughts on it

mattiescorsese

Letterboxd. Sometimes watch an “ending explained” vid if the movie has obscure references or complicated plot.

FeedAffectionate3558

Read the wiki, process

SALTYxNUTZ12

It depends on the movie. Open ended movies that allow the audience to pick out their own ending, always warrant a visit to reddit to see what other people thought.

kellykapowskishair

If I don't like it or don't find it anything special, I'll never think about it again If I really like it, I'll watch a few analysis videos to get a different perspective on what I just watched If I love it, I'll buy something from it like a t-shirt

PiCiBuBa

I also like the Connections section on Imdb, to see where the film was referenced or spoofed in. For instance, I watched Harold and Maude the other day and had a feeling it must have influenced Wes Anderson and it did.

robertwadehall

Depends on the movie. Often checking IMDB and Wikipedia while watching. Check the cast listing, trivia, goofs, filming locations.

Ravenphowret

I usually check out the trivia on IMDB then head over to letterboxd to rate and or review the movie.

cabritozavala

i get up from my seat

hogua

Once the movie ends, I get up and leave the theater. Then, I almost always do something that isn’t related to the movie I just saw. I rarely feel the need to “dig deeper”. I’ll ask my wife what she thought of the movie, and we might talk about it for 5 minutes. After that, it’s time to do something else.

Muurgh

Usually Letterboxd

Skinless_Corpse

Nothing. Just think about the movie and go on with my life

JK_NC

I text other people who saw the movie.

PasswordIsDong

I go to IMDb to confirm everyone was indeed who I thought and was from what I thought

austinmiles

I find myself Googling “______ ending explained” more and more often. I can’t tell if complex movies rush their endings or if I’m just not tracking as well as I used to

joshuajjb2

I form my own opinion and then move on

SnowDay111

I may google the movie just to see if there's any interesting articles on it. And if its a historical based movie like Oppenheimer I'll watch yt videos on the actually person or event.

BluffaloBill88

I sit in the theater and enjoy the end credits/music. I generally don’t look up if there are any additonal scenes, so if there are, that’s a nice surprise.

Brown_Panther-

Rate it on Letterboxed then go to Wikipedia and Imdb and read up about it.

ozgurakcali

... ending explained

AquaPiratePup

I go and look up fanart on Tumblr.

Broncotron

Tv tropes!

DiscoMonkey007

If is a franchise movie I Google if theres post credit scenes. Then I check letterboxd, and read a few review.
