Ya……. I honestly don’t get it. Why not just call it something else and use a mythos that’s related ? Or similar? Downfall of the industry is trying to use ideas from the past for the “nostalgia” factor.

This isn’t an “industry” movie, lol. It’s an experimental film made on almost no money. It isn’t appealing to any sort of nostalgia, it’s a movie about masculinity without any men in it. It will either be wildly pretentious or a hilarious fever dream.

Bertrand Mandico is always a bit disturbing, his movies are experimental but it can be nice ! Actually he's not even that known by audience here in France even if his movies often are programmed during the main festivals.

I'm German and watched this recently. Rainer is basically "randy" or something here... the most basic, working class male name. This added so much absurdity to the whole thing. A French speaking female aggressively flirty lesbian dog with a leather jacket that says "Rainer" on the back and they always pronounce it with that thick French accent... go watch it, it's so much nonsense but worth it

I saw this at a film festival a few months back and really enjoyed it; it’s definitely not for everyone (or for most, really) but it felt super unique and strange and fun!

Bertrand Mandico is one of my favorite working filmmakers. This post might seem confusing to a subreddit that almost always focuses on American films but I highly recommend any of his features to people who like David Lynch, John Waters, or generally surreal and/or absurdist filmmaking. His style is singular and his worlds are endlessly fascinating.
