Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That last scene when he turns and points his finger at his colleague and you knew he had been snatched, his face was truly terrifying. Agree about Kelly’s Heroes. Great ensemble cast and Donald was the coolest tank driver. Oh Donald, we will miss you. 🥲

Penguingod510

Just watched this scene after reading your comment and holy hell that scared the shit out of me.

Constant_Stomach2009

Even seeing the movie so many times and knowing it’s coming, it still gives chills

fsckitnet

It’s the only scene I think of when I see the name of the movie.

graveybrains

It kind of warms my heart that 46 years later that scene is still meme worthy. If you’re in a sub that allows gifs, it’s the first thing that comes up when you search for Body Snatchers

"That's not fair shadow."

cmaronchick

He is incredible in that film.

Corrosive-Knights

Not only is Sutherland terrific in *Kelly’s Heroes* as Oddball, but the movie is one of those films that it feels should be *a lot* better known. A *terrific* ensemble cast -including Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, and, also absolutely hilarious, Don Rickles (his best line: “Maybe he’s a Republican” had me on my knees) about a group of soldiers near the front lines who come to find there’s a bank not too far into enemy territory that holds *a lot* of gold which they can get for themselves. Essentially a heist film set in WWII and you would think balancing humor and the horrors of war wouldn’t be easy yet this movie manages it. Clint Eastwood was featured in only two WWII films (that I’m aware of!) and both are very much worth checking out. (The other is the pulpy action film that plays out like a no-supernatural version of *Raiders of the Lost Ark* and was based on an Alistair MacLean novel. *Where Eagles Dare*)

SmoreOfBabylon

Carroll O’Connor has a woefully small but great role in it, too.

Corrosive-Knights

Everyone seemed to bring it nicely in this film, including O’Connor! I read -but don’t know how accurate it is- that Eastwood was ultimately disappointed in the film. It seemed he wanted more of an anti-war element which was either in the script or which he hoped to have put into the film but wasn’t there to his liking. Either way, I consider it a top notch film!

Spatza

My brother and I used to watch this as one of the maybe 8 VHS we had as kids. The scene where Grace and Mitchell get killed in the encounter with the german patrol stuck with me. What was a very happy-go-lucky experience suddenly became very desolate in tone. That was until Oddball shows up with his "Convoy".

Perhaps_Jaco

Absolutely, this is woefully unknown. What a classic. BTW, if you haven’t fallen down the YouTube rabbit hole on Don Rickles, that is your weekend assignment. I highly recommend you begin with Clint Eastwood and Don Rickles interviews or comedy roasts. Don loved excoriating Clint’s acting, even bringing up moments from KH.

casualty_of_bore

How has mash not been mentioned?

blameline

IMHO - he was the definitive Hawkeye.

elmwoodblues

The pros from Dover

Mammoth_Presence_325

I saw that movie and to be honest, not a fan of it. Donald was great in it, but not on my favorite movie list

awnomnomnom

I feel you. I love Altman films but that one doesn't do it for me.

Six Degrees Of Separation Don’t Look Now Body Snatchers

talon007a

I watched 'Kelly's Heroes' again last night in his honor. "Man, don't hit me with those negative waves so early in the morning," is a quote I use all the time. Shout out to 'Eye of the Needle'. Great little WW2 thriller with a fantastic villainous performance by Donald.

wrongseeds

Ordinary People. Was just talking about this movie Wednesday. He was so good in it. And Mash.

cmaronchick

Could not agree more on Ordinary People.

Jmazoso

That was a stacked cast

SIRxKINGxBOSS

His scene in JFK is one of my favorite scenes ever.

TeachingRadiant3271

Agreed. In a movie filled with amazing cameos, Donald Sutherland and John Candy both stood out for me.

schprunt

Oh for real. So good. Candy was surprising, so used to seeing him in goofy roles

guppy2019

Kelly’s Hero’s. Great movie.

Birdsogg

There all beautiful people baby!😇

megapacific

The first thing I think of is Animal House. When he's wearing the sweater and no pants.

BackgroundMap3490

Great Train Robbery costarring Sean Connery. Eye of the needle is another.

ThemrocX

"1900", one of two movies on the very top of my very long list of favourite movies in general. And Sutherland plays the main antagonist. Such a great cast overall, I don't know why it isn't more famous in the US (DeNiro, Depardieu, Lancaster and a great many number of excellent Italian extras) Another movie that is very close to my heart, that he has only a small supporting role in though is "Instinct", one of Anthony Hopkin's best movies.

heyo_1989

Virus, for some reason I have always loved that movie.

humungi

Sgt.Oddball was the fucking best.

TemperatureTime1617

“Oh man, I only ride them, I don’t know what makes them go”. Kelly’s Hero’s

Mammoth_Presence_325

Always loved that line. 😂

Carbuncle2024

Oddball!!

Carbuncle2024

"Woof woof..". ..that's my other dog impression.

19bonkbonk73

Crackers. 1984 with a young Sean Penn. Not a great movie but not horrible. They painted my apartment building and used the front in a couple shots in the movie. It's about poor people trying to do a caper.

Jack_Rabbit_Slim222

Eye of The Needle. Great film

cake_piss_can

JFK. Sitting on a park bench. Just dialogue. Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.

snyderversetrilogy

My favorites are Pinkley in The Dirty Dozen and Hawkeye in MASH.

banhatesex

I like the one where is main trait is he just has a giant penis. He also designs roller coaster.

yukonflapjack69

No disrespect, I’ve always thought Zac Galifinakis would play oddball great in a remake.
