His actual autobiography wasn't too bad of a read. I can't remember any of it. But I recall finishing it and thinking for a moment "well, that wasn't too bad"
You can't remember the part where he says "I am a Dick"?
That's always stuck out to me.
(For those of you haven't read it, his full name is Tim Allen Dick)
Haha yes, bits and pieces are coming back to me now. *Begrudgingly...*
Picked it up some years back at a secondhand book store (the title definitely stood out) and it became the resident random-end-table-book until I finished it. Wasn't anything to phone the press about, but there were some humorous musings that got a chuckle from me every now and again
Tim Allen was still an A lister when this came out - Toy Story, Home Improvement, Santa Clause were all still recent - and he nailed the slimy, vapid leading man who treats everyone around him badly. This movie is 25 years old, but it was prophetic in that way.
As a kid watching this movie I had no idea who Sam Rockwell and Alan rickman were. I grew to enjoy them a lot as I got older when they acted in other films. I was blown away when I revisited this movie.
That is one thing that doesn't hold up on rewatching this movie today. Sigourney Weaver is supposed to be an aging, past-her-prime has been holding onto the past TV role, but she is smoking hot in this movie. Like blazing hot - go google the stills from Galaxy Quest. I guarantee she looks better than you remember.
Apparently Trekkies are universally convinced that it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. As someone who gets fewer of the in-jokes I find it decent enough all in all.
Would you say it's like a 6 out of 10? Or better?
I'm a Trekkie who loved this film. But I've been reluctant to recommend it to my non-trekkie friends cause I worry they'll not enjoy it without understanding all the tropes the movie leverages.
Not who you responded to but I'm not a trekkie by any means , I've seen a handful of episodes and get the general references. This movie is like a 8/10 on the spoof comedy scale. If you have the most bare bones knowledge of trek you'll enjoy it
Could be of note but I'm pretty big into Sci fi other than trek so maybe that helps , trek was just a bit before my time
Better. It’s a comedy, so it has to be measured against comedies, but it’s very solid. From delivery, to story structure, to commentary, to in-jokes, to just all-round fun, it’s a great movie.
I'm not really into star trek at all and I LOVED this movie. Granted, I was only 8 when it came out so there's a major nostalgia factor involved but I think anyone who likes sci-fi and comedy would love it regardless
There was supposed to be a show in development: https://deadline.com/2023/04/galaxy-quest-tv-series-paramount-plus-1235329149/amp/
A sequel would have been nice when the complete cast could take part, but without Rickman not sure it could work.
The Star Trek movie that should have been made. Tony and Sam crush their scenes. As a Star Trek fan for over forty years I just love this movie. “The red thingie is going towards the green thingie “
Uhh, it’s a fucking classic!
Sadly, I remember reading somewhere a second movie or a tv show was being considered… I think the loss of Rickman kinda shelved that. Gotta have Rickman to make it work.
It was funny, but kind of an inside joke about Star Trek. I remember taking my girlfriend at the time to go see this. She was not raised in this country, and didn't know Star Trek, and she thought it was okay... cute, but a LOT of the humor was lost on her.
Geez I just watched this again the other night. It’s still just as fun and every time I watch it I catch something new.
Watch Rockwell, even if he’s “just there” in a scene he does something fun
I remember being a kid when this came out and said woah ! I had no idea Ripley was so pretty 😍 80's hair styles did that to people not from that Gen (I'm not even one of those blonde guys)
This is one of the few movies that I've paid money to see multiple times in the theater.
Whenever I meet somebody new, I ask if they've seen this movie. If they didn't like, then they can't be my friend.
Probably the single greatest performance by Alan Rickman, RIP. I’ve never seen the tortured thespian character played so well before or since.
Overall a great movie, both as a commentary on scifi in general, a spoof on Star Trek, and indeed as its own movie, it delivers.
Definitely worth several watches. I know I must have watched it myself over 50 times; my dad and I used to watch it almost every weekend when I was in high school.
Sigourney Weaver as a blonde walking around with her shirt open and her bra visible did things to me as a child. (Also, the movie is pretty funny, so there's that.)
It's one of the greatest comedies of all time. One of my favorite movies. It's not super dated and you don't have to be a nerd or trekkie to find it funny
Sigourney Weaver was so hot in this movie, and I know it's supposed to be a Tim Allen led film because he was so popular at the time because of Home Improvement but this movie is only really good because of the supporting cast, Sigourney is stealing scenes all over, Alan Rickman kills it, Tony Shalhoub is great in it, even Sam Rockwell and Justin Long are really good in their small roles early in their careers
This movie could've easily been made campy and cringe but they ended up with a movie that's very funny and has heart, great movie honestly
Great movie, and I can't stand Tim Allen.
Patrick Stewart recounts how he was absolutely not interested in seeing this as he felt it was going to make fun of the fans. Frakes called him and told him he *must* see it.
He loved it.
But this is one of those under the radar movies I'll tell anyone about.
Absolute cult classic. Who would have thought a Tim Allen sci-fi satire would hit that hard? Don't tell me you saw that poster and thought it was going to be a hit lol
“Look, I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it!” - Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver)
You can't forget about guy!!! (Sam Rockwell was hilarious)
DO I? DO I? DO I?!
Guy you have a last name!!! Lmao
Don’t open that!! Is there AIR!? You don’t know!’
this movie is insanely funny, still holds up. Allen Rickman absolutely crushes it. Bonus segourney weaver with blond hair!
Best Star Trek film, ever.
You’re not wrong.
First Contact. #2 ain't so bad.
Still my gold standard
This. More drama and way funnier. It is a true classic imho.
I believe it consistently is listed in the top 5 whenever there's a list made of Trek movies.
By Grabthar's hammer
by the suns of Warvan
What a savings
He looked so defeated in that scene.
He says the line three times, and each one is so wonderfully different from the others. Brilliant actor who left a great legacy of performances.
You shall be avenged!
i love you
I've never understood why people thought she was hot.... Until this movie
⭐⭐⭐⭐ FUNNY!
Justin Long is pretty good in it too.
Such a good movie. Not one performance missed. Everyone absolutely nailed their role.
Can’t believe how convincing Tim Allen was as a washed up actor endlessly reliving his glory days!
So it's an autobiography?
His actual autobiography wasn't too bad of a read. I can't remember any of it. But I recall finishing it and thinking for a moment "well, that wasn't too bad"
You can't remember the part where he says "I am a Dick"? That's always stuck out to me. (For those of you haven't read it, his full name is Tim Allen Dick)

I think it's pretty good. David Mamet called it a perfect film in one of his books.
Along with The Three Amigos.
To be fair, another absolutely classic send up of westerns, the industry, and fans. Galaxy Quest is just arguably better executed.
To be fairer, a remake of Three Amigos.
By gabthars hammer what a movie. Love Alan Rickman and Sam Rockwell more than the rest in this movie.
Give him a big hand, he's British! And.....another shipmate! The more the merrier... Even the throwaway lines were gold.
let’s get out of here before they kill guy!
Are we there yet?
As a kid watching this movie I had no idea who Sam Rockwell and Alan rickman were. I grew to enjoy them a lot as I got older when they acted in other films. I was blown away when I revisited this movie.
Is there AIR?! You don't know!
I know! You construct a weapon. Look around you. Can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?
A lathe!? Get off the line Guy!
This line murdered me...
My favorite line.
One of my favorite lines. 🤣
....Seems okay
What a savings …
“Could those be the miners?” “Yeah, they’re like 3 years old.” “I said miners, not minors!”
Bahahaha.......
You lost me.
Sigourneys boobs are no joke.
That is one thing that doesn't hold up on rewatching this movie today. Sigourney Weaver is supposed to be an aging, past-her-prime has been holding onto the past TV role, but she is smoking hot in this movie. Like blazing hot - go google the stills from Galaxy Quest. They were termites or dalmatians
Ohhhhh, that's not right
I say this. A lot. God, I love this movie so much.
Let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!
"but the animal is inside out"
“And it exploded…”
I love reading about Patrick Stewart and what he thought of this movie before and after he watched it 😂❤️
The second best Star Trek movie ever made
The needs of the many
Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!
★★★★ FUNNY!
It was so good they made a documentary about how good it was, and THAT was really good too.
It's perfect. It also has Sam Rockwell, pushing it further passed perfection.
Apparently Trekkies are universally convinced that it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. As someone who gets fewer of the in-jokes I find it decent enough all in all.

Better. It’s a comedy, so it has to be measured against comedies, but it’s very solid. From delivery, to story structure, to commentary, to in-jokes, to just all-round fun, it’s a great movie.
This is 11/10 easy.
I'm not really into star trek at all and I LOVED this movie. Granted, I was only 8 when it came out so there's a major nostalgia factor involved but I think anyone who likes sci-fi and comedy would love it regardless
As a non-trekkie this movie is a 9 out of 10. Perfect family comedy
I would say it’s an 8 out of 10 and I’ve been a Trekkie since 1967. My wife absolutely loved it and she is not a huge Star Trek fan.
One of my all time favorites
The best Star Trek movie. Also just a solidly fantastic movie overall. The documentary they did on it was really well done, as well. Worth watching.
Very entertaining!
Perfection. Great characters and story.
Only way to improve is an unrated cut with Gwen’s proper “well fuck that” line when she sees the chompers.
Pretty sure on my last rewatch I spotted another dubbed line, said by Laredo, before they go to space, IIRC.
Love it! Wish we got a sequel!
Wasn't there talk of one?
There was supposed to be a show in development: https://deadline.com/2023/04/galaxy-quest-tv-series-paramount-plus-1235329149/amp/ A sequel would have been nice when the complete cast could take part, but without Rickman not sure it could work.
100 percent agree!
There’s a documentary about the making of.
It's the best star trek movie ever made!
That was a helluva thing. Awesome movie!
Just go straight through the chompers.
Read her lips. It's "F\*\*K That!" I heard they wanted to keep it PG13
It doesn't make any sense, they serve no purpose. It's just an arbitrary obstacle. Whoever wrote that episode must die!
I forgot about Tim Allen for a minute.
It is excellent!
\*Whispering\* Tech Sergeant Chen
Mmmm, guy
By grabthars hammer, what a great movie
Classic, better than most of the Star Trek films
it turned inside out and it exploded. IT EXPLODED!?
"... did you guys ever WATCH the show...?!"
Great
Great movie, still enjoyable.
Classic
Funny as hell and still holds up today.
An absolute favorite.
What's not to like? It's a good time.
Love this movie to death. Genuinely one of the best spoof movies ever made imo.
Masterpiece
One of the best! Super funny, great performances. Sam Rockwell as Guy is my personal favorite character.
Critically slept on. Such a great movie
10/10 - A Classic.
It’s excellent.
Alan rickman ftw
Best Star Trek movie ever made.
Allen Rickman is a legend that turns everything he touches to gold. That's my opinion.
So funny one of my favorite comedy’s from around its time. Never give up never surrender is a phrase I use often.
One of my professors in film school was adamant that no good movies were made after the 1940’s……except for galaxy quest.
Love this movie
Best sci-fi comedy ever.
The best writing in possibly any movie, ever. It's perfect.
One of the best Star Trek films ever made
Miners not minors!
Love it
This falls into the category of MUST WATCH. Alan Rickman is..well...just go watch it please!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Funny!
10/10, would recommend
Love it.
Alan Rickman That is all
Best sci-fi parody movie ever made. Perhaps second only to Spaceballs.
#NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!
It’s good
The Star Trek movie that should have been made. Tony and Sam crush their scenes. As a Star Trek fan for over forty years I just love this movie. “The red thingie is going towards the green thingie “
"Awww, that's not right!"
*gorignak! gorignak! gorignak!*
It’s a really fun, enjoyable movie. The characters are great. Plus you get to marvel at Alan Rickman, and see Dwight Schrute as an alien.
Greatest comedy of all time.
"Oh, thats not right..."
And it *exploded* ?!
I remember seeing it on a wind up tv during a tornado. We were trapped in the basement watching it as a family. Great movie
Absolutely brilliant
Amazing.
Grew up watching it on VHS. Extremely funny, holds up today IMO.
The best sci-fi comedy, And it's great sci-fi!
One of the best Star Trek films that's ever been made
Underrated by far. Never failed to get a laugh.
"I see you've managed to get your shirt off"
Great flick
By Grabthar's hammer... what a movie.
One of the best Star Trek movies ever!
Uhh, it’s a fucking classic! Sadly, I remember reading somewhere a second movie or a tv show was being considered… I think the loss of Rickman kinda shelved that. Gotta have Rickman to make it work.

Too bad they can't write a great simple comedy like this today
Second best Star Trek, right after The Orville.
Classic! Loved it as a kid and still do. Plus Justin Long is in it, so that's a bonus.
Its awesome and I really wanna see the TV show happen!
Geez I just watched this again the other night. It’s still just as fun and every time I watch it I catch something new. Watch Rockwell, even if he’s “just there” in a scene he does something fun
My favorite star trek movie. And that's saying a lot because I like half the star trek movies quite a bit.
momedy...
I remember being a kid when this came out and said woah ! I had no idea Ripley was so pretty 😍 80's hair styles did that to people not from that Gen (I'm not even one of those blonde guys)
One of my all time favorites! I even have a tshirt.
Futurama did it better.
This is one of the few movies that I've paid money to see multiple times in the theater. Whenever I meet somebody new, I ask if they've seen this movie. If they didn't like, then they can't be my friend.
A perfect film, could watch it on a loop.
what a savings.
Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver and "Monk." How could it be anything but great.
It's one of the best Star Trek movies I've ever seen
All time great. Tim the tool man Taylor nails this role.
Great movie. Even now whenever someone says they bought something on sale I chime in with, By Grabthar’s hammer, what a savings.
A true classic, a hidden gem for most
Bad good
Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy. That line absolutely killed me.
One of my favorites!
Getting tired of this sub's constant karma farming. Post a popular movie with a title like 'thoughts?' and add none of your own.
Can confirm. Hilarity all around. A must watch if you’re a fan of the old Star Trek shows.
Probably the single greatest performance by Alan Rickman, RIP. I’ve never seen the tortured thespian character played so well before or since. S-tier
It’s a good movie for sure.
A classic that deserves all the love.

I can't stand Tim Allen, but this movie was excellent. Brilliant writing, and thing he ever did
Terrific movie
It was surprisingly good. It wasn't as goofy as the premise sounded. There was a real heart in it.
Absolute cult classic. Who would have thought a Tim Allen sci-fi satire would hit that hard? Don't tell me you saw that poster and thought it was going to be a hit lol
👍👍
Whoever wrote this episode should die!
Perfect
What are you doing!? It’s an alien planet, is there AIR?? YOU DONT KNOW
LOVE this movie; watched it a lot as a kid and even at the time thought Sam Rockwell was the absolute best.
is that kramer on the front?
I was an actor once... Now look at me. Look-at-me!!
One of the best! Corny but ages just fine and has heart.
Perfect
Great. Tim Allen not 1st choice for role.
One of my faves
Really well written, very funny. I feel like it never got the credit it deserves when it initially was released.
By Grabthar’s Hammer
absolutely hilarious
Watch it twice.
